My dress came in! (AW naturally)

I found out at the end of the week last week that my dress came in so on Monday I called to make an appointment just to pick it up-- they asked if I wanted to try it on too and I said nope, just want to pick it up. So I left work earlier than usually so that I could get to the bridal salon on time to make the last pickup appointment, and the woman at the front apparently had me down for trying it on as well. I totally hadn't planned on doing that and didn't bring my shoes or spanx but OBVIOUSLY I had to do it anyway. I felt kinda bad that my mom wasn't there because she had been asking me if it came in about once a week during the month leading up to when it arrived.

It's a Pronovias gown and I've already bought Spanx similar to these (clicky) to wear under it (I don't have them on in the pics tho). Also, the belt isn't attached yet so I was holding it up and that's why my arms are in an unnatural position

I fell in love with it all over again.

But I do need some advice:
1. I'd prefer to wear a strapless bra - do you ladies have any favorite brands? I HATE wearing strapless bras but I'd still prefer that to having cups sewn in. I'd be looking for a 36C/D.
2. I have crystals and pearls on the belt, veil trim, and headband. Would drop earrings be too much? I would definitely keep the necklace simple and I plan to wear my hair down. I had something like these in mind, but idk if it would be too much bling overall

Also, for anyone that's in the process of looking for dresses: I already have some advice for what I'd do differently. When I picked my dress, I order the belt, veil and headband all at the same time too and I probably could have bargain shopped for them. They were all in the $249-$299 range each (so about $800 right there), I likely could have saved if I had just been patient. Oh well. I do love what I picked.

    gorgeous!!

ETA: I forgot you also asked a question.  I can't see your headpiece but I think those earrings don't look like too much with the veil and the belt and what you have on that we can see.

  • You look fantastic!
I think those drop earrings would look great with it.

  • So pretty! You look amazing!

I think those earrings would be perfect.

I have exactly zero advice on your strapless situation - I wear a 38E and as such can't seem to keep a strapless bra on without hitching at it all the time.

  • Gorgeous!

I think VS might have strapless bras in your size.  I would also try Nordstrom's or a specialty bra store.

    image
  • I would definitely skip any necklace and go with those gorgeous earrings.  that would be enough with the sparkly belt and bling on the veil without going overboard.
  • I wear a 28FF/H so I don't have many inexpensive options, but my Freya Deco is a great strapless and I highly recommend it. Best bra ever, I adore it.

@manillabar I don't have a good picture of the headband and I left it with the dress at my mom's house, but I think this might be the exact one.

About the bra situation: I have the card of a lingerie fit specialist from Nordstrom, so I've been thinking about arranging something with her. I just have NO idea if their bras are any good/what brands would be most comfortable. Soma Intimates may be my backup plan.

  • I think those earrings would look great, as does the dress! The cut of them is not too blingy, plus your hair may be partially covering them if you leave it down.

  • Different brands are different on different bodies, so going in to try a bunch on is a great idea. I hear Nordstrom has lots of different brands so that would give you lots of choice and lots of things to try on, although I've never been as we don't have them up here.

I've considered this.. I just didn't know if it would look strange to have a strapless dress and no necklace. It would be one less thing to have to buy/worry about!

I'll have to see if I can find that brand in stores somewhere. Thanks!

Ooh that's lovely! And also I think that the earrings wouldn't be too much with it since the headpiece is not huge

I have a strapless dress with an added belt, too - my stylist told me that a necklace would be too much. Go with the earrings, for sure!

I wore a strapless dress with drop earrings and no necklace. I think the ones you posted would look really nice.

Oh, lady, you look absolutely incredible. I love it, and I love those earrings with it, and just yes to everything.

  • You look amazing! It's a gorgeous dress on a gorgeous woman!

  • You look gorgeous!! You are totally rocking that dress!!

About your questions: I'm not sure about the bra. I have a larger bust size than you. I'm going to a specialty store to see if I can find something that can find enough support. Have you looked into longline bras? I also am not a fan of strapless (I don't think I've ever worn anything strapless!) but I've heard that longline bras can feel really secure! That's definitely what I'm looking into next month.

Also, a big YES to those earrings! They are beautiful! But maybe no necklace?

    Either way, you look fantastic!

  • I love it! Gorgeous!

  • Random question, but the spanx that you ordered... Do you like them?  I clicked on the link you posted above and I like how they come up super high, but I wanted to see what you thought about them comfort wise.

  • You look fab, and that is a fantastic dress!

I know you paid a pretty penny for that veil but I love it, and usually veils don't do much for me.

I don't get the cup aversion. I'm a c cup and I am all about having cups put in my strapless dress. Because of my back fat (I store all my fat in my back, like a camel) I have a lot of trouble with finding a bra that doesn't cause ugly lumps. I have heard some folks rave over long line bras, which, to me would provide more support under a strapless dress and wouldn't migrate as much as a strapless bra. I tried a long line and it was just really not comfortable under my dress, it was adding bulk in places I didn't need it.

The best strapless bra I own is a somewhat worn out bra I got years ago and it just happens to fit right and offer support without creating ugly fat rolls in the back. I have tried Wacoal strapless bra because they were well reviewed but frankly the one I got fit funny and didn't sit well beneath a sweetheart neckline, you could see the bra. I would maybe go get fitted in a nice department store if you are dead set on a bra.

  • @planejane0415 I had ones similar to that and I liked them. I liked the short-type things because because it helps your legs not stick together. since they come up so high it helps smooth everything out.  The only issue was that they kind of tried to roll down, if you will. I just folded the top part over a little bit so they didn't roll down. All in all, I really liked them.

  • @plainjane0415‌ @emmaaa‌
So far I've only worn them in the fitting room but I plan to wear them under a dress to a PGA banquet thing this coming Sunday so I'll report back.

I still have the tags on them at home so I'll look at the style number, but the kind I bought comes with these little straps that hook around your bra to keep the top from rolling down.

    That's brilliant.
