Re: Unpopular Opinions/Irrational Irritations/I Judge

  • II: I hate that FI can go to bed and fall asleep IMMEDIATELY, and I just lay there... and don't go to sleep. And then I think of 4839027984032 things to talk about, and I want to talk about all of them, right that second, and he's already snoring, and then I get frustrated because I'm still thinking and not sleeping, and he's sound asleep...

  • Thanks guys. I'm really coming to realize my buddy has a lot of issues, and we're VERY different. She mostly needs to grow up I think? (HA! pot and kettle. I have SO much growing to do.) Or it might just be that she saves all of her worst moments for me.

II: You know what really pisses me off? Cartoon food looking better than real food tastes. Like pizza. I remember those super cheesy Doug pizzas .... mmmm..... and real pizza just doesn't ever get as good as that looks. I think I'm probably very weird.

Confession: after we got the AMAZING knives yesterday, I had a moment of "oh shit. That was a $400 gift. Should I get rid of most of what's on our registries now that I have no job? We need MONEY!" Fiance talked me down and was like "chill pill lady. It will all be fine. The registries are fine"

@GoldenPenguin You can text everything to me! Except I fall asleep right away too....so maybe that won't be very helpful.

@Dignity100 I still kind of judge...but at least you didn't blast it all over FB like this acquaintance I have.

SPEAKING OF THINKING TOO MUCH TO SLEEP!

Molly woke me up at 6:15 this morning. I took care of her needs and then tried to go back to sleep, but instead kept thinking of ALL the things I haven't done at work this week that I needed to (and didnt) do today. Next thing I know, I'm traipsing through some city, with one of my former students and a youth director friend of mine on our way to @buddysmom80's house for a gtg. @swazzle, @goldenpenguin, @csousa1 and @hummingbird125 were all there, but no one would come and pick us up. It was insanely hot and I had to carry the kid on my back half the way because she broke her ankle on the playground we had to climb through.

ETA: we got to the house, and no one would come to the door, but I could see all of them sitting around and talking through the windows in front of the house.

  • @LaBro I feel you about babies. I love babies. But more and more lately I'm feeling like... the world sucks and life is really hard. I don't want to worry about them forever, because I am a MAJOR worrier, and I don't want to see them go through hardships. And the financial side of it... yeeeesh.

And then I have CRAZY thoughts like "I should just have a baby soon, then it wouldn't be so bad if I only have a part time job." CRAZY LADY RIGHT HERE.

@goldenpenguin I haven't tried leggings as pants at my new office yet, but I wear them and I like them. Getting dressed AND going to work on the same day is hard sometimes. The little things help make it tolerable.
@goldenpenguin, @swazzle, and @audrewuh, I know leggings-as-pants is really enjoyable, hence why my opinion about not getting it in a professional setting is the UNpopular opinion.

But I would just like to point out that bolded in audrewuh's post completely reinforces my point: while leggings-as-pants might be 10000% fantastic and comfy and awesome, it's still at least questionably appropriate depending on the professionalism of a given workplace.

ETA - @goldenpenguin, tell me where to buy these thick non-see-thru leggings! I can never find any and I would like to have some! Not to wear to work, of course ;)
Target has fleece lined leggings. They're amazing.

I got my fleece-lined ones from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for like 10 bucks

  • @twodimes - I got my favorite pair at TJ Maxx. I don't even know what brand they are! But they're awesome, and I wear them at least twice a week. To work.

  • In all seriousness about the legging discussion, I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to wear leggings to an office where suits and shit are the norm. I wear jeans or similar 95% of the time at work. I sit at a desk for 10 hours a day and I don't deal with customers. Sometimes, I really just don't feel like getting as fancy as jeans so leggings it is. I'm not wearing a friggin crop top with them, they're not see through, my ass is covered. What's the big deal?

I'm glad my workplace isn't all that professional!
My current work place doesn't require professional attire at all... I'm sitting here in my jeans, athletic shoes and big heavy baggy sweatshirt (hey I'm working late and the high today is 4).

My previous employer was very professional/conservative and leggings as pants and $1 flip flops with a flower glued on them passing as 'professional shoes' bothered me.  In this work setting - if you want to wear your PJs to work - just make sure they're clean!

    @swazzle, sarcasm font?
NO! Dead serious font. I followed up that post with more info I guess. I work in finance at a brokerage and we only all see each other all day. We wear jeans everyday and in the summer the guys even wear shorts. It's very casual and laid back here.

  • Serious question: how do you guys get away with being on the Knot at work???
  • II: I have been reading everything that everyone else is writing but have had nothing to say so far. When did I get so........... whatever you want to call it. Maybe just "blah"?

I judge: people who use dip/chew. I immediately think you're gross and I won't be able to stop staring at your teeth if you try to talk to me.

Obviously it ISN'T big deal at your work, but you're wrong about the bolded. I work in a "professional" workplace where something like jeans is a huge no-no, and women here wear leggings as pants. And I go to conferences and work events where there will be some people in suits.... and some people in leggings. And these people are in their right minds, but apparently think leggings=dress pants.

Are we talking leggings as pants with a normal shirt/blazer/cardigan? Or like longer tops/tunics/dresses?

I don't think my office cares as long as my job gets done. When I WFH I use my personal laptop and keep my work laptop running separately.

  • @lilacck28 - I work at a brokerage and when my desk trades, I calculate and input the trade detials and it takes roughly 30 seconds. It's very different from most people's jobs where they can almost always be working on something work-related whereas if my desk isn't busy and they're not trading, I have no work.

    @AlPacina - I get like that sometimes!

It is quiet here. When I hear that people are about to walk by I minimize the window.

  • I have my own office and my computer faces away from the door. I work at a college, so there's nothing blocked or anything. As long as I get my work done, no one gives a shit what I do.

  • On the leggings and professional thing, @twodimes, the reason I said I'm waiting to see how my office is is because I work in a church. Churches are so weird about things they like and don't like. For instance, tattoos. Or leggings. Or tshirts in the office.

I have a bit of 'downtime' where I'm watching a scrolling green bar copy something over - or I'll be on TK between customer requests and take like mini-breaks.... mostly watching green bars scroll by as stuff copies/processes through though.  Privacy screens and 2 monitors also helps.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I will wear leggings with a sweater dress or long shirt. I will not wear leggings (to work or anywhere else) if my bum isn't covered by my shirt; just a person preference. My office is business casual, so no jeans Monday-Thursday but long sweaters and stuff are fine. H & M also makes fleecy tights/leggings that are awesome. And I found a pair of work pants that feel like a cross between skinny dress pants and leggings; they are my favourite thing this winter, I don't think I've worn my nicer work pants in months!

I use "in private" browsing at work and have an office where my computer doesn't face the door. As long as my work gets done I don't think they care. Also I'm really tired of my job and don't care as much anymore.

I'm only on during down time and I make sure I always answer the phone when it rings. No one has said anything to me so I figure they don't know or don't care.

  • @lilacck28 I have an office too and as long as my work gets done I don't think they care. I do keep a few tabs open though just in case, but plenty of my coworkers go on Facebook or Reddit. I also do it if I need a break or have nothing to do. I just finished all of my work for the week and now I am waiting for Chinese New Year to be over because I can't do anything until I hear from our suppliers/manufacturers over there.
