Diagnose me: CC Style

Last night, I was laying in bed, I got up to walk to the other room to sleep (FI and I don't share a room during the week because I get up at a god awful hour and he can't sleep through my shuffling around to get out of the room) and I was SUPER dizzy. Like so dizzy I had to hold onto the walls to get to my bedroom. This morning when I woke up, still dizzy, not as bad. It's so weird though. Just feels like my head is constantly spinning.

Diagnose me:
- Dizzy head for 12 hours
- No pain anywhere
- Can walk fairly straight (nothing out of the ordinary)
- BP is typical
- No headache (beyond the spinning)
- Eyes can focus
- I can stand on one foot with my eyes open/eyes closed I fall over after about two seconds.

I've Google'd me and I've either got:
- A brain bleed
- Sinusitis
- Ear infection
- High BP
- Blood sugar issues

Personally: I think it's my parasitic twin attempting to escape or I was wearing my hair too tight. I've watched a lot of episodes of ER and the only ones having to do with head stuff was when Doctor Greene stuck his tongue out in the mirror, noticed it went off to one side and bam! He had cancer. None of that here, tongue goes straight out.

Diagnose me, knotties. I'm currently waiting for my doctors office to open up so I can call for an appt.

  • Girl. You know the answer is always "go to the doctor."

Still waiting for the doctors office to open. As I drove into work today "They should really have a doctor that works from 6a-8a and another from 5p-7p."

If only I cared to be a doctor.

  • K now that I've got that out of my system... you sound dehydrated to me. Have you had any water lately?

  • Sounds like vertigo to me.  My mom had it for the better part of a year.  Be careful and yes, get it checked out.  If it is vertigo there's not a whole lot to be done though.

ETA: Maybe Vertigo? But go to the doctor.

Good point. That's a bit lacking in my realm. Need water: check.

I saw this too. And this is bothersome to me. I had two aunts with it and while it got them in the front row at Neil Diamond, I don't really need something that's not treatable. Boo hiss. It's a better movie than a condition.

I vote vertigo or dehydration as well. I had vertigo for about a month back about 6 years ago and they gave me a prescription for something (can't remember what it was called) that I could take if I felt a dizzy spell coming on. So you might be able to get some relief if it is in fact vertigo.
  • I was gonna say dehydration or sinuses. I get sinus problems all the time and it usually makes me really dizzy, even if the rest of me feels fine. Sometimes if I don't sleep well I get super dizzy. Sometimes when I'm hungover I get dizzy. Hell I'm dizzy right now just from the dumbass new TK design.

I'm glad you're trying to get into your doctor ASAP. Good luck!

  • 11am doctors appointment :)

Yeah, I don't have any pain or weirdness anywhere else. Just my head is spinning. Like nonstop. It's so weird.

  • At home solution to drink more water and make sure you're eating enough.

But that much dizziness should be checked out by a doctor.
  • It kind of sounds like vertigo to me. My older brother and I have both had it. When I have it though, it makes me vomit because I get motion sick.

  • Firstly: Doctor. Good choices.

Secondly: It sounds like vertigo to me; that sounds just like what my grandmother said it felt like.

I am super impressed you went on in to work to try and be a normal, functional adult today. I could not function with your symptoms.

It's pretty rare that I call in sick. And I can put myself into a high level of denial :) but yeah I'm definitely going to the doctor. It's kind of trippy. Wooo!

  • Low blood sugar maybe? Also low blood pressure can cause dizzy spells.

I get dizzy spells often, daughter offered me meds but by the time I'd get to the pills to take the pill the spell would be over...thus negiating the need for the pills.
  • Vertigo or inner ear infection?

I saw on news a bit back that a woman had come up with a routine of leaning down and looking up that gives some vertigo sufferers some relief.  I don't have vertigo but definitely get the spins with an ear infection or when I first get up on nights when I don't get any sleep.  Have to get out of bed slowly or I feel spins.  If I get good sleep, it doesn't happen.
  • Do you feel nauseous at all? If you do could be possible low blood sugar. This has happened to me a few times. I wake up and feel like I can walk normal but I'm really dizzy and feel like I have to throw up. I feel better after eating or laying back down for a few minutes.

    Hopefully your doctor can help.

Nauseous, yes. But then again, I've been spinning for about 12 hours now :) I have eaten and drank around 32oz of water and still no relief. I do feel better if I sit still and have my eyes closed and concentrate on the music in my ears. It's just so weird.

  • You can get dizzy from sitting up out of bed too fast.

  • I've had vertigo before and that sounds like it.  Vertigo CAN be treatable.  My doctor had me lay down and twisted my head around in specific movements to move the stuff back to where it should be in your ear. She told me to sleep sitting up that night and by next morning I was fine. It's called Epley Maneuver.  You can find instructions online, but it's best to have it done by a trained professional/doctor so you don't just make it worse.

  • I vote for vertigo, which can be treated with meclizine (Bonine), or ear infection. While you wait to see your doctor, I'm posting this so we can all sympathize.

  • Glad you're going to see the doc.

It could be an inner ear infection--depending on how bad it is some people find relief when horizontal and pretty much immediately get dizzy and puke upon standing up.

It could be vertigo (as mentioned) or even Menear's disease (which presents with headaches and tinitus as well as dizziness. Treatable.)

It could be a shitty virus. It could be dehydration. It could be all sorts of shit--please be careful driving, and get thee to a doctor.

SITB - I'm guessing it's something with your inner ear then. But, your doctor will know more than me obviously. Hope you feel better! If you're still really nauseous I know doctors can prescribe something for that too. My neurologist gives me Zofran when I'm sick from my migraines.

  • My actual medical opinion: ear infection, vertigo, or dehydration. Try some Gatorade recovery or powerade to see it helps.

That's the same type I had that my doc cured with the Epley maneuver stuff.  If it doesn't go away in a day or two, I'd look into finding a doc that knows the procedure, because that weird head turning stuff fixed mine almost immediately.  It was awesome to get quick relief after something that annoying.

This site <Clicky> has some info on it and a link to find docs familiar with the procedure.
