An invitation snark...

I must be snarky for a moment about an invitation we just received...

1) We received it 16 weeks before the wedding.
2) The envelope was addressed with labels...not even like nice clear labels where it almost looks like it was typed on the envelope. The labels had some scroll design on it. And it was crooked.  
3) Upon opening the envelope little slips of paper came flying out at me like it was freaking confetti...but no, it was just registry information.
4) One little registry slip said "honeymoon account" with some letters and numbers...but no way of contributing so I took to Google but couldn't find it.  Either way, I find it amusing since now guests won't be able to be taken advantage of by a honeymoon registry.
5) The STD was included in the wedding invitation.  I'm perplexed by this.  Why send it now?  I no longer need to "save" the date as I now "have" the date.  The last two wedding invitations I've received have included the STD in them.  Is this a thing now?  I find it weird.
6)  The reply envelope had no stamp.  I have to pay to reply that I won't be attending.  Grr...

My final snark...  The mother of the groom posted on Facebook last week begging for frequent flier miles to go on their honeymoon.  

After all that I was pleasantly surprised to see that there wasn't a gap. :)

    Hunh. I don't get the STD with the invitation either. That's just odd. Why not make your invitation suite more expensive for the hell of it?

    I used silver labels on my black envelopes. I doubt anyone gave a care.

    Same. There are festive stickers on EVERYTHING we get from her, and she has holiday-themed return address label stickers for every holiday.

    Same. There are festive stickers on EVERYTHING we get from her, and she has holiday-themed return address label stickers for every holiday.

    Their mother wants to go on their honeymoon with them?!  Just....why?  Or is she asking for miles so she can "gift" them their flight?

    We used labels on our envelopes. If someone was offended by that, then that is probably the type of person that I wouldn't want at my wedding in the first place. I don't think it matters at all.  The envelopes get thrown away the instant they are opened.  Who cares?

    I just ran my envelopes through the printer using mail merge. Which technically again the same rules cause they should hand written but I'm fucking lazy.


    We did the same.  We also just set up an email address for people to RSVP to instead of reply envelopes.

    Yeah I never understood the label hate.  I don't find them any different then printing directly on the envelope which seems to be much more accepted.

    But if you are going to use labels then at least make sure those suckers are put on straight for fucks sake!

    **I used clear labels for my return address and for the RSVP envelope.  I tried to run my main envelopes through my printer but it was being a bitch so I had my Mom address them instead because my hand writing sucks and H's looks like even worse.

    im waiting for my cousins invites to come and it be address my name and guest not my name and FI name. yes the envelope gets thrown out but still show you care and to find out my FI name i have been with him for 8 yrs now. 

    as for the std wtf. what is the point of sending one with an invite. IDIOTS!!!

    Meh, I'm with OP on this one.  I kind of side-eye a wedding invite with labels.  But if you put a gun to my head, I couldn't tell you which weddings I've been invited to committed that faux pas.  So, I also am with the PPs who say they throw the envelope away immediately after opening.


    I do find it funny that the honeymoon registry couldn't be found.

    I recently received a STD 2 weeks before the invitation. It would have not been so pointless if the invitation hadn't been sent out >4 months before the wedding. I think people just like to send AW pictures of themselves (the STD had an engagement pic on it).

    Labels I don't care about, but most of the other stuff is rude. To be fair a stamp isn't technically required, because RSVP cards with envelopes are not required.

    H and I received a wedding invite in February for a wedding in August! It is out of the country but still. There is a gap, registry info was included, the invite was addressed to Mr. And Mrs. Husband even though I kept my name (this one I don't hold against them, they are a distant cousin of h and didn't know).

    I accidentally sent some of my RSVP envelopes without stamps. I had gone through and stamped as many as I needed, but then flipped the stack over without remembering that the bottom few weren't stamped. Didn't realize it until I got them sent in with different stamps on than the ones I had bought. I was super embarrassed.

    We are using Minted's service to have our invite recipients' addresses directly printed on to the envelopes.  I do love calligraphy and nice handwriting, and I realize that handwritten addresses are technically more etiquette approved.  But (1) my handwriting's not the greatest, (2) I'd already addressed all of our save-the-dates by hand, so I know how much of a pain in the ass it is and how long it takes to hand-address envelopes for a 200 person wedding, and (3) Minted's addressing service was free and I couldn't bring myself to spend the money to hire a calligrapher.  

    Printing addresses may be technically against etiquette, but it's a victimless crime.  We are using the money instead to add an extra appetizer to our menu.  I'm pretty sure if you asked our guests if they wanted a hand-addressed envelope or a shortrib slider, they would pick the slider every time.  Except maybe the 3 or 4 of them that don't eat red meat.
