Our pediatrician is pushing to have them done. I'm on the fence. DD has basically had recurrent ear infections since November. We do antibiotics, it clears for a bit then a couple of weeks later we're back because I can tell she's got something going on.
She honestly never seems outright sick- I only figured out that her ears were bothering her because she get a little more cranky and her nose runs. She doesn't pull on her ears, run fevers, or act like she's in a huge amount of pain. As of now, her hearing isn't impacted and she seems to be developing normally in the language department.
I'm not worried about the surgery. I think she'll be fine. The doctors are sort of leaving the ball in our court right now. They think her infections are viral so giving more antibiotics won't do anything for her, but obviously they aren't resolving on their own. They think that she has narrow ear canals (like me) and that contributes to it.
I don't know what I want here, I think I just need to type it out. I know some of you have done the whole tubes in ears business so I thought I'd get some perspective. She goes back next week for another check and I think we'll be getting the recommendation/referral to see the ENT.
