Beauty Subscription Boxes

edited March 2015 in Chit Chat
Do any of you subscribe to a "beauty box"?

I just started getting the Allure Sample Society boxes, and I'm tempted to sign up for Ipsy. . .

So far I really like the mojito lip balm and the Oscar Blandi texturizing spray.  The lip balm is a little sticky, but not too bad, and the texturizing spray smells kinda odd, ut it really works well,

No, but I always wanted to. Any recommendations? Is birchbox worth it?

Birchbox is the only one i know about.

  • I've used birch box a few times and it's OK, but I always get burned out by too many shampoos.

  • I used to get Popsugar, which was sort of a combination of fashion and beauty.  I liked the surprise every month, but just got to be more and more stuff that I didn't necessarily want.  I've been on the wait list for Ipsy for about three and a half months, but my best friend has that and loves it.  She said she preferred Ipsy to Birchbox because of the price and customization.

I used to get Birchbox and really wasn't impressed at all, even after filling out my profile super specifically. I just started getting Ipsy bags and I really like it.
  • I LOOOOVVVEEEE Ipsy! You can really personalize it so that you don't end up with a bunch of junk that you don't want. I Have had it for 8-ish months now, and I have never not used a product until it was gone.
  • Is Ipsy all makeup? What I liked about Birch Box was getting mostly skincare.

Like, 99% for me. And you can say that you dont like/want skincare products when you sign up.

    Yeah, lots of makeup.

Update, because I just got home and checked the mail to find that I got my Ipsy bag today! 2 makeup things (1 of which is a full-size Nyx butter lipstick, yesssss), 2 skincare things (1 of which is for "normal to oily skin," which I don't have, so they clearly didn't actually take my profile into consideration for that one), and 1 double-ended makeup brush.

  • I used to get Ipsy, Birchbox and BoxyCharm. Then I discovered I had WAY TOO MUCH SHIT and had to cancel. I'd probably go back to Ipsy if I wanted to get something. BoxyCharm is nice and it's full sizes. I think Ipsy has the best stuff.

  • I'm signing up for ipsy right now because I saw michelle phan

Ipsy is also really great because you get a cute little makeup bag each month.
  • I did Birchbox for about a year, but then I started getting repeats of stuff. I feel that the customization wasn't great.

  • I know my cousin had Ipsy and maybe she still does. I'm thinking she may have tried Birch Box at one point. I know she really liked Ipsy, but I don't know that much about it. I've never used a subscription service.
  • I love ipsy! Your bag will not be filled with only "high end" products but I really don't mind.  I like some drugstore brands (and if I don't,I don't feel bad throwing/giving them away). I think there's a good mix of makeup, hair and skin.

I cancelled my birchbox when I got a nail polish "sample" that didn't have enough liquid for 1 manicure.

I looked at a few blogs before I decided- ipsy is 10 and includes free shipping and the makeup bag. I've never had a bag where I didn't like at least 2 things which to me makes it worth it.

Lol that's the other reason I didn't want ipsy - I already a thousand little free Clinique makeup bags floating around. :-p

  • I canceled my Birchbox subscription because it was mostly products that I didn't like/wouldn't use, and when I got something good like lipstick or nail polish, the color was always wrong for me. I threw/gave away much more than I kept.

  • I'm going to check out Ipsy now. I did Birchbox for awhile and found that I wasn't using most of the stuff.

I may or may not also subscribe to Barkbox for my dog...

Have you used jamberry nails before? If not, I can tell you they are a pain in the ass. They didn't stay on for me and would catch on my hair all the time. They also look like stickers when on. It did help me quit biting my nails for awhile, but now I'm back at it.

  • I have been a Birchbox subscriber for about a year and a half. I love getting it every month. Some boxes are better than others, my favorites are actually lipstick and lip gloss samples. You can set your preferences on what you get but it's not super tailored. If you review the items in the box you get points and when you get to 100 points you get $10 off your purchase. Basically you can achieve that every other box. You also get promo offers and other discounts for subscribing sometimes. The only thing I wish is that Birchbox carried Nars and a couple of my other beauty favorites, because then I'd never need to shop at Sephora. Customer service at Birchbox is fantastic. One month I had moved and my box ended up who knows where. They sent me another one free, no questions asked.

  • Another vote here for Ipsy. I have been getting Ipsy since September and I've gotten some really great full size makeup products from well known brands. I also received really high quality makeup brushes in my last two bags. If you login to your account and link it with Facebook and let Ipsy post on your behalf I think it will shorten your time on the waiting list.

  • I just miss my Nature Box. Snacky snacks.

  • Do you Ipsy gals tend to hoard all your bags, or do you end up giving them away?

  • Are you getting sample size or full size items? I am hesitant to pay for the beauty boxes knowing that I can get free samples when I place a Sephora order. Why would I want to pay for smaples?
