So my FI and I have been together for 9 years and engaged 5 years. I have two younger sisters, both got married by justice of the peace (which there is absolutely nothing wrong with this and is totally fine)! My middle sister was married as recently as Feb 14, both her husband as well as her will be standing up in my September '15 wedding. The dilemma I am having is that both my sister and her husband want to share my wedding with their vow renewal on my wedding day. Am I wrong to be upset about this? I have been planning and saving for my wedding for so many years just to share the spotlight with someone else? Please someone let me know if I am being a bridezilla!

They got married. They got their day. This is your day. No sharing it unless you want to share it. They're being rude and selfish.

  • There is not a chance in hell that you are being a bridezilla. They do not need to do this shit, and to try to press it upon you is completely fucked up.

    Tell them NO.

  • My jaw dropping, as well.  You are in no way, shape, or form a bridezilla on this.  This is a hill to die on.

I found it incredibly galling they would have even THOUGHT something like this, much less actually say the words out loud to you and your FI.

And, yeah, "vow renewal" so close to their actual wedding is absurd anyway.  Hopefully when you all give them an emphatic NO, they will just drop the idea.  You know, now that they would need to actually plan and pay for a party.  But, if they don't, I would really try to talk them out of it.

  • Fuck no, no, no, no. Just no! Did I mention no? You have every right to be offended and upset about this. I don't understand why any one would think this is OK. You are not being a bridezilla and personally I would tell them to go fuck themselves, but I'm just a bitch that way. Politely or impolitely tell them "no way in hell is that happening! End of discussion." After waiting nearly a decade for the wedding you want you shouldn't feel any guilt for not wanting to share that day with any one other than your FI.

  • Yeah.....Hell no.  I can't believe they even suggested it.  Fuck that noise.

I'd like to pull out one of my favorite haikus in response to their request:

    No no no no no
No no no no no no no
    No no no no no
    LOL.  Awesome

  • Where is @beethery‌ 's huge purple rotating "NO" gif? That totally belongs here. Good on you for standing your ground, OP! Die on that hill.

  • Everyone on TK is a fan of telling posters that you get one day (normally used for SS's considering a PPD). It works here too, that this is YOUR day, not theirs! You are not a bridezilla for saying no to them!

I can't believe the nerve to even ask such a question (them, not you OP!).

  • Sorry, but no.  First of all, you don't do "vow renewals" in the same year you were married! That's ridiculous! Tell her politely, no.  This is your one day and she had her one day.
  • Thanks all!

I'm thinking of sticking them both at the kids table. j/k
    Do it!!

But seriously, stand your ground and tell them no.

  • Really starting to regret asking them to stand up because not only are they asking to have their vow renewal on my wedding day but my sister is asking me to pay for her dress, hair and makeup. She is using the excuse that I owe her for throwing away her already damaged and very moldy NuWave oven that she did not want at the time and was looking for a place to store it for the time that they were moving.

I am beside myself right now.
