So why is it my fault that the OP decided to put all of her personal information on the internet? We are just working with the information she chose to make available.

If she cared, at all, about internet security she would have changed her username after 3-4 knotties pointed out the risks.

Oh, lord Jesus. What a crock of shit.

Seriously. I get not linking her website, posting her phone number, making it any EASIER for someone to find her. But if the letter of the rule were followed, just quoting or tagging her would be a TOS violation since HER POST had her full name in it.

ETA: All because I had a name in the text of my reply that also happens to be the actual quoted username...

And what in the actual fuck?

What, really? Why the hell does it work like that? I moderate a different web forum and it doesn't work like that. Because our moderators are allowed to apply things like common sense and logic (and personal bias, sure, but sometimes you need that) and aren't forced to treat our members like they're in kindergarten. We just give people infraction points (or not, our discretion) up until they've earned enough to get a ban.

We also do this nifty thing where we pretty much invariably side with regulars over newbs.

    Jail, really?

Yup that makes lots of sense.

I mean...Ashley has her name in her s/n....can I not call her Ashley anymore?
  • So why is only flan in jail (so stupid) when Kat and Lolo have edited posts too?

I don't think anyone should be in jail, just asking what's the difference?

  • For all I know, that's not her real name and I've done nothing wrong.

Can I change my username to Katie K-something? It's not even close to my name. Will people get in trouble when they Google that?

YOU POSTED MY PERSONAL INFORMATION, I AM TELLING.
Maybe they'll put me in the same cell as flan...
  • Sweetie - your username is YOUR NAME. All it takes is a quick Google search to find things.

Google yourself sometime, and see what's available to anyone who feels like looking. I do periodically. You'll be amazed at some of the stuff you find.

Change your username. Deleting your question won't do any good - other posters used your FI's name in some quite clever hashtags, and until you change your username there is literally nothing stopping people from finding allllllll sorts of info.

Internet safety is MUCH more important than a hashtag for your wedding.

Ladies, gents and transgenders, stop getting your panties in a wade.

Flan's temporary jailing was my fault. I clicked on the wrong button by mistake.

Just chill okay.  People make mistakes.

I am not wearing panties today. So they are not wadded. And address "transgender" as something other then a lady or gentleman is actually very rude boarding on transphobic. A trans person is a lady/gentleman as much as a cis gendered person is.

Are we not allowed to ask about why things happen or what things are?

Just chill okay? People ask questions.
People are definitely allowed to ask questions. But before everyone stones a mod for doing something, it may help to tag a mod to ask what's going on.

At the end of the day, we're users just like y'all and mistakes happen. It was corrected and easy to move on from so let's all put the rocks down,

Also, Lynda is not the one who "accidentally" deleted her own thread, that was someone else and that person also fessed up to the ordeal.

  • I am ROLLING with this thread.  This is awesome.

In fact, it is the epitome of FUN :)

I periodically google myself to make sure that I don't show up on any searches. If I do, I lock down all security settings. I even made sure that we aren't searchable on here, and Password protected it.

    DOUBLE POST QUEEN!
Edited because I didn't actually double post hahaha.

I just googled, and discovered my twitter is visible. I haven't used it in 6 months, and only sparingly before that, so I'm not worried. :)

My Facebook is unsearchable, I don't have any real info on LinkedIn (no notable jobs), and I don't have Insta or Etsy.

You can find pics from a long-ass time ago though. No nudies, but they're there.

Just googled myself, both full and nickname. Found two pictures and my linked in profile. Not too bad, considering one of the two pitcures was my linked in profile picture.

Also, my FH's last name begins with the word "Rad", so I clearly need a cheesy ("creative") hashtag and I need to hire @lolo883 for it.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your uterus, but if/when you have kids, please use #RadDadinTraining or something lol
    Loooooooool. Yes!!
