Hot Rollers!

Does anyone use these? Since cutting my hair shorter I have been using a 1 inch curling iron more often to achieve a different look (always have had strait long hair). Kind of like ;

I feel like using the hot rollers could be better and save time. Have them in while I do my makeup vs right now I do my make up THEN curl my hair. If any of you use these I would greatly appreciate any advice on brands and any tips!

I'm going to be honest, hot rollers take longer for me than a curling iron. I also think it doesn't give you the same look and results. The ends are always more curled than the top and it falls quicker.

I lack the ability to use hot rollers well. I'm not good at hair but my attempts with rollers are always sad.

I use them pretty much every day. I put my hair in them and then do my makeup.

I'm not sure hot rollers really save any time, but if you put them in, do your makeup, and then wait until they've cooled to take them out, your curls should last longer than with a curling iron. And IMO it's slightly less annoying than using the curling iron. The look they give really depends how you roll your hair more than which tool you use.

I just have a set of Revlon or Conair or something that my mom bought in the 90s and I stole permanently borrowed at some point. I keep eyeing newer, sleeker sets and then not buying them since the old ones still work.

All through high-school and college I used my mom's hot rollers from like the 70s or 80s. Those were a PITA but they always kept my hair curlier for longer than a curling iron. I could never get the hang of curling with a curling iron so hot rollers are my default.

Yeah, I could never get the hang of the curling iron. I told my stylist last year that I wanted to learn because using the hot rollers seemed so old school, but I get compliments on my hair all the time, so fuck it. Hot rollers work for me, and I'm sticking with them.

I have always hoped hot rollers would work for me so I keep buying new sets (ones with pins, ones with clips, ones with clamps) but never have any luck. I can never get the rollers to stay in place. But I also just figured out this year how to curl my hair with a curling iron without looking like Shirley Temple so it may just be me!

My hair is already naturally very wavy but for some reason a curling iron does not work for me at all. But hot rollers are also testy. They'll either leave me looking like Little Orphan Annie or like they barely did anything. THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN (often, anyway. Sometimes I can get them to work)

I don't know much about hot rollers, but I do know my grandma has used them for decades. Her hair always looks nice and has curl all day. Also, when we were kids and around her, she'd let my sisters and I take them out.

I used to use them. But when my hair got really long I had to do half my hair at a time because I didn't have enough rollers to do my whole head at once. And I was too lazy to buy another set.

I kind of want to try this...CLICK...out, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on a flat iron.

For some reason I thought it cost $250 but it is only (I say that in jest) $190. So much better, right? I may have to break down and get it because I am so tired of my blah straight hair! My birthday is in August so maybe it will be a present to myself.

I haven't seen this before, but this thing is genius! Even my stylist admitted it took her some time to master the flat iron curling method... I want!

I really shouldn't be too shocked that it is $190. I have a Chi flat iron and those are about $150. A birthday present to yourself is a good idea. Report back how you like it! ETA: BOXESSS

@emmaaa and @maggie0829 I have never seen that thing before and now I want it! I just bought myself a basic curling wand from Target and damn that thing is dangerous. I burnt the shit out of my neck and hands the first couple of times I used it so I haven't touched it since. The TYME straightener looks a lot less dangerous! Now to find a way to convince H that it's a good idea for me to spend $190...without also feeling buyer's remorse.

@cupcait927 My first wand was dangerous. It came with a heat protecting glove. Except, it didn't help because I couldn't grab my hair with a glove on.

I have scars on my arm from burning myself. I had to wear a bandage for two weeks.

I use Caruso steam rollers. Love them for my naughty waves of misbehaving that my hair is prone to, plus it doesn't turn my hair weird colors. Flat irons typically leave odd darkening.

Me too...but I honestly thought I was the only person left on earth using these

only bad thing is the crease I get from the cover on the roller.

I used those Caruso steam rollers a long time ago! They didn't work as well for me.

I've used the Conair Compact Heatsetters for years now. I don't use the smallest roller because that's too tight of a curl and can look frizzy.

ETA: The hair in my sig pic was not done with hot rollers, just FYI.

Huh, I've never gotten a crease. Probably why I still like them. I've got pretty fine, heavily color treated hair, so heat really isn't my friend. But I get nice loose curls from the Caruso, so good enough.

Bunny from graveyardgirl (there is some numbers in there I'm not even going to attempt) on youtube did a "does this thing really work" on it today. Those are really the only videos of hers I watch because she's too wordy for me. But you can check out what she thought about it there. The general thought was straighter=good and curler=not too good.
