Speaking as an admitted "devotee" (ugh. I liked her. I stuck up for her when I thought she was right. I guess that means I was basically a cult member), I'm rolling my eyes a little at that. I'm not that scary. Maybe others are? No idea. But it's pretty cowardly to come out now and say the only reason you (and others) didn't say anything was because you were scared to engage in a discussion on the boards about it. Worst case scenario, someone disagrees with you, vehemently, publicly. Best case? It spurs the admins to look into it further, and then you get to be extra super gloaty when those vehement supporters look like total morons for defending a catfish. Win-win.

A lot of us started having a hard time believing ALL of the stories. Many of the stories seemed to feed off other posters or had to one-up them. Remember when Lolo got pregnant? Well two weeks later Wifey was pregnant from a turkey baster and jizz kept warm in a coffee cup on the first try (not saying it isn't possible but very suspect).

But like some said, it's hard to prove that someone is lying when this is technically an anonymous site.

KR and KH looked for AEs and same IP addresses but couldn't find the proof they needed. Some people tried to search for Magic on Google. She gave us her name, Fiona, her wife's name, Sophia, and they lived in AZ and were married. Nothing. They owned a home. Nothing. She owned a tattoo shop. Nothing. Her wife was a lawyer. Nothing. We couldn't find anything.

Apparently some of the TK regs have a private board and also began to question her. I'm not exactly sure what happened as I am not part of that board but I saw from lurking on the TH. Magic backed off and got defensive when called out and would not explain or answer questions. I think they blocked her over there?

Well after that, all of the sudden, PoG logs on and starts a thread. KH and KR saw the same IP and cookies and could prove that PoG was her AE and that was Magic's final warning.

The thing I don't understand is why PoG used to be a regular at the same time as MI??
I thought MI was the biggest AW ever (yet with no pics... hmmm) but why have 2 active regular personalities?
That's really a lot more free time than I can even fathom.

I want to point out that there's a difference, in my opinion, between a run of the mill troll (usually someone who got their nose tweaked and assumes an AE to stomp around and stir shit) and someone who "catfishes." A catfish isn't looking for revenge or deliberately on a site to cause havoc. It's typically someone who creates a very elaborate new self, and maintains that false identity. The reasons for this are probably many and deep and complicated, but typically boil down to this: a person who feels that their genuine self is not adequately interesting or entertaining or confident or in some way "good enough."

I don't want to publicly kick someone who feels that way.

I find it sad. Because if someone is funny and entertaining and interesting as a persona they simply create, I would have liked the real person behind the false persona just as well. Probably more.

And that's what I'd say to the person formerly known as Magic Ink, if I was to go all Mommish, which I often do. You were funny. You were entertaining. You made valid points, and brought up valid issues. I would have liked the real you. You didn't ever need to be someone else. Truth.

Per usual Annabelle is wise. This is basically how I feel. I thought I "knew" Magic off board and enjoyed talking with her. Now I feel betrayed and sad and yeah, angry.

I definitely thought she was exaggerating some stuff about her life. But I did not think she was completely invented. Some other community members were more suspicious, investigated, and figured it out. TK only banned her once the "followers" outed her. We agreed about a lot of stuff and I wanted to think I knew her, but we are not blind lemmings.

TK banned her when the admins saw that POG was an AE of hers. The AE was her fifth warning and therefore a ban.

I saw the TH thread and thought, "huh - interesting" but that wasn't why she was banned. Any one of us here could be a catfish - there's no way for TK to know.

I think KR already posted this, but Magic/VG had 4 warnings as of yesterday.

Then she logged on and started up with her AE (PofG). AE's are against the TOS so the AE was banned and the user (Magic/VG) was warned. It was her 5th and final warning, so she was banned. Officially, the warning was for creating an AE.

I'll completely own up to the fact that I was far too intimidated to say anything publicly. There were lots of people that liked MI and stood up for her (unbeknownst to me that many of those same people were questioning her identity). I like the community, I like posting here and I was worried that my speaking up would get me ostracized, so to speak. So I stayed silent and out of the fray. It wasn't worth it to me to say anything.

Ok first of all, it's not "clear that (we) were" because we weren't. You can keep trying to push that theory, but it isn't true.

Secondly, I said in my OP (at the top of this string) that "the suspicion was raised". I never said we "knew". Actually I said quite the opposite. I said we looked into it and couldn't prove it.

Honestly, I didn't want to get that involved. I'm here because I enjoy it. If I get all worked up about something, I walk away. This isn't congress, this is an internet message board about weddings. If I'm upset, I need to re-evaluate. If I came strolling in here one day and was like, "MagicInk, I think you're full of shit." she would have gone apeshit and I just didn't want to deal with it. I rarely get involved in the serious hot topic threads (the recent confederate flag thread, things like that) because it will get me all worked up and I just don't think it's worth it. If that makes me a bad mod, fine. But as a mod, I monitor my board, the reported posts, give warnings and ban spammers as needed. I don't think it is a mod's job to tell the boards every single one of our thoughts and suspicions.

I'm curious. You are basically saying that we should have stood up and said, yeah we think she's playing us. She may be a catfish.

Yet, you also say you (and many others) also had suspicions that she wasn't who she said she was, yet y'all said nothing.

Being a catfish is not technically against TOS. Creating an AE account is.

ETA: Our responsibiliy as mods is to monitor the board for TOS violations.

We did question her. We didn't do it in a "HEY! We think you are lying!" way, but in a subtle way. We asked her about her tattoo shop. We asked her to recommend local tattoo parlors. We asked to see wedding pics - her wife, wouldn't let her. Plenty of people asked to see pics, she had a plausible excuse. You can't just come out and accuse someone of not being real without proof.

It's not a matter of being scared. It's a matter of being FAIR. There are rules here - granted you don't think they are clear, but they exists and the KGs follow them. We can't just ban people without reason.

Is it possible that you are just pissed off Kat and looking to blame someone? I know you trusted her and it can hurt when you trust someone who turns out to be a liar. I know from experience when an exBF lied extensively about his past - it hurt like hell when I found out the man I loved basically didn't exists.

She was an excellent catfish and she made us think. If she had been a real person I don't think her personality would have been so polarizing. She had to extreme to gain support. She had to put others down to make herself feel more important. She needed us to validate her - that's really sad. Good news is, we don't need her. TK will continue and will hopefully be better without her shit stirring. However you feel about her, it think we can admit she was a catalyst to many of the divides we have recently dealt with. Catfish want everyone to turn on each other, so that is the chaos people turn to the catfish.

I honestly hope we don't let her drive any more wedges between us.

Are people seriously arguing about who gets the credit for MI/Vulgar being caught and then subsequently banned? And are we really questioning why people didn't speak up? It is kind of obvious that if someone spoke up and tried to call Vulgar out that that person would have been jumped all over. Why didn't any of the "devotees" speak out about it on the boards? Why did you keep it to your private group? Seems like no one wanted to really say anything about it until it was proved, which makes perfect sense.

Why don't we all just be happy that a deceitful person is no longer a member on here and move on?

This isn't really true though. You were straight up told "we think pog is an ae for magic" you weren't on the lookout until the "devotees" told you to check if these two people matched. Did I say we were scared? Nope. What I DID say (if you would read) is that we couldn't prove it. So we didn't take action on something we couldn't prove. Do you have a problem with that? Would it be your personal preference that we had just been like "eh, she might be a catfish....go ahead and ban her"?

If all these people supposedly knew, why didn't anyone you non - "devotees" question one of her stories, or her lack of pictures? And then let it unfold.

Being a catfish is not technically against TOS. Creating an AE account is.

Yes, exactly I am saying if you had your suspicions you should have said some thing. I admitted several pages ago that I was completely fooled. So, what I really don't understand is that if some many people knew (devotees or not) why didn't one person clue everyone else in?
