Whatever Wednesday

Good morning, lovely ladies! I'm starting off this Wednesday in a good mood :)

Getting home last night kind of sucked. There was a huge accident on the main highway here in NJ and it was shut down all day in both directions which affected all the other roads, the buses and also the trains. I ended up getting to the train station with 15 minutes to spare thinking "Great! I have so much time to figure out where I need to be and I don't have to stress". And then I managed to get on the wrong train. Luckily, the first stop was only 10 minutes from my house and H was home so I called him to pick me up. This morning, I walked to the train station and it only took me 13 minutes which is not bad at all! So far, I'm not hating this commute.

I made Blue Apron Crispy Catfish with Eggplant Caponata for dinner last night and OMG YUM. I think a lot of people are scared of catfish but if you like tilapia and other mild white fishes, then you will like catfish too :)

Tonight I'm going to make BA Steak and Potatoes and then H and I are going to see Trainwreck. We haven't had a movie date in a while and I'm dying to see this movie so I'm excited!

I predict Wednesday will be GREAT!

Re: Whatever Wednesday

  • Morning!  I'm sorry about the train yesterday @swazzle.  Give it time, I'm sure you will sort it all out.

I have to have a difficult discussion today that I'm not looking forward to.  Lets just say a "friend" tried to do something behind my back and I caught them red handed so now I need to confront it.  Ugh, hate confrontation but hate pretending everything is ok today.  Other than that, I have lots of work today, have to get to the gym tonight (I've been absent several days...whoops) and am looking forward to a calm night tonight.  :)
  • Morning!

@swazzle I'm glad you are liking your new commute! I used to walk to work every day, it would take 45 minutes, which really sucked in the heat and the cold. 16 minutes doesn't sound bad at all :)

@minskat30 good luck with your conversation! Stuff like that is never fun.

I had a decent day yesterday, I wasn't nearly as productive as I wanted to be, but because it was my first day off in a while I don't really care. Tonight I am working and I am not looking forward to that at all. My boss called me yesterday to tell me this crazy story. Basically one of the other supervisors is really being a backstabber and I don't feel like tiptoeing around anyone. It really sucks. I'm constantly being accused of leaving early from work by this girl which is crazy because my time punches are right there for my boss to see every day, if there's any doubt she can just look and see that I clock out on time or a few minutes late every single day. I don't like that I can't just go to work and do my job, I gotta worry about what everyone else thinks I'm doing as well.
  • @Swazzle - Catfish is a staple here in OK, only most people fry it.  I'm glad your commute was easy this morning!!

@minskat30 - Good luck with your "friend" today.  :(

My ILs arrived last night.  Only MIL is staying with us (all of H's brothers are going to stay with their cousins here in the city).  I cooked dinner and her only comment was that it needed a little more salt.  Whatevs!!  She is making dinner tonight, flautas and rice, so I'm glad for that.  H and I were up around 4:45 or 5:00, and 5:30 MIL comes out of her room to talk.  *sigh*  She walked both of us to our cars as we left at different times so she could get in all of the chatting she could.  But so far, it has been better than any of the other times we've stayed with them or they've stayed with us, so I can't complain.

OH!!  I forgot to put my pre-natals up before she arrived.  I keep them on the kitchen counter so I remember to take them.  She was in the house for all of 4 seconds and she saw them and started asking questions.  I just told her they were good for hair and nail growth, and when I had the tumor and had my thyroidectomy I lost a lot of hair (all true!), so I was hoping they would help me grow my hair back (true fact).  That seemed to work, and so she started telling me about this homemade shampoo her friends in Mexico make to help grow their hair.  LOL

I have a massage today.  I really need it... my neck and back have started locking up again (I can't think of a better way to describe it) and I can't turn my head all the way.  It'll hurt, but tomorrow I'll be able to move my neck.  Woo-hoo!!
  • @swazzle ugh same here, last night the Mass Pike had a 90 minute backup in the direction I take to go home. I randomly wasn't heading home for once but I was still stuck in an hour of traffic trying to get around all the on ramps that were backed up. I love catfish, and swordfish. Have fun at the movies!

@minskat30 Booo I'm SO bad with stuff like that!

@cocobellaf good work on beandipping MIL about the vitamins.

Last night, I sat in traffic forever but finally made it to the mall where I bought H's birthday present. I literally had no idea what I was going to get him so I just walked around browsing. Finally found a North Face store and bought him a nice zip up. The man only wears black and the one style I fell in love with didn't come in black, so he better frigen like the navy!

Then a knottie from chit chat met me at the mall and we went to Cheesecake Factory. She was soooo nice. She's here on business and gets paid a lot for per diem so she covered the check which was such a sweet thing to do. Can't wait to eat my leftover miso salmon for lunch! (yes I'm the douche that heats salmon at work- no fucks given).  But tonight I have a wake so I'm definitely not looking forward to that.

  • Swordfish tastes like steak!!  We had some in Boston on our HM, and OH MY NOMS.
  • @caseface5 Sounds like a shitshow!! And what the crap with a wedding on a Monday?! I know it's cheaper but come on, that's asking a lot. For people to fly down for the weekend is one thing but then to basically make them stay til Tuesday and take at least 3 days off work- major eye roll from me. And bringing your own meat to a bbq? Why bother having one if you don't want to host it/ can't afford to pay for it? I don't know how close you are as a family but I don't think I've even go. My cousin just got married in OH last weekend and it didn't even cross my mind to go. Hope you get the hotel stuff sorted out!

@Jenna8984 This cousin is 8 days older than me, and I have no siblings. So he was like my twin growing up. We are extremely close so I would hate myself for not going. Also, BF is a GM so we have no choice!

ETA: I am trying to talk to my family about my concerns and so that we can try to work things out and help my cousin, but if I say anything my family immediately thinks that either A. "No one will ever bee good enough for 'cousin" and I just don't like her" (which is NOT the case.. this time) or B. I'm just jealous that he is getting married (again, not the case.)

  • @minskat30 - That does not sound fun. I hope it goes well!

@untouchablets - How frustrating. People need to mind their own business.

@CocoBellaF - Enjoy your massage! I would not respond well to someone trying to talk to me at 5:30am. Makes me glad it's just me, the pup, and the kitters at that hour.

@caseface5 - Are you close with this cousin? That sounds incredibly unorganized and chaotic and would be way too much stress so I'd happily decline.

@jenna8984 - I love swordfish too! My favorite local Mexican restaurant has swordfish tacos and they are SO. GOOD. The accident on the NJ Turnpike happened at 10:30 am. The tractor trailer flipped and caught fire underneath of an overpass. People were stuck on the highway for many, many hours. The driver of the truck died which is really sad.

@500days - Did yours make a ridiculous amount of caponata? H and I couldn't eat it all so I have ton leftover that I'm going to heat up for lunch today. I'm so glad you liked it!

  • @caseface5 ugh that wedding sounds like a disaster!!

@jenna8984 I saw your post on fb last night about traffic. What happened??? Also good luck at the wake.

@CocoBellaF glad things are going ok with MIL. Enjoy your massage!

@untouchablets sorry work people suck. Why should they care what you're doing???

@minskat30 good luck with your friend. That sucks, I hate confrontation too.

@swazzle hope today's commute is a little smoother for you!!

Last night I went for a run and then argued with FI. awesome. It's a recurring issue for us regarding how much time we each think is necessary for us to spend together. He comes from a family where his dad has frequent nights out with his friends without his wife whereas my parents rarely do anything separate in the evenings and weekends. It's something we continue to work on. We have made progress since we started dating and for the most part I feel we have a good compromise but sometimes we still clash over it.

Anyways, he left me a sweet note this morning and I know everything is fine even when we do argue. :) now, on to Wednesday!
  • @swazzle YES. So much caponata. I mean it was a whole eggplant lol I was actually glad because it was pretty tasty.
  • @caseface5 sounds like a disaster.

@swazzle I'm sure the commute will get better.  At least you didn't have to drive in that traffic yesterday

    @500days that meal looks great

@minskat30 I am so bad at confrontation. I hope it goes ok.

@untouchablets it sucks to have to worry about other stupid people drama at work and not just focusing on work.

@cocobellaF your massage sounds wonderful.  I'm so jealous.  I'm so achy and sore I need one.

Life is boring right now. There is nothing excitng to share really.  I'm just studying at nights while it's going well I'm seeing more improvement it's hard to focus. Only about a month left to go........ I'm wearing a dress to work today.  Dresses are so comfortable.  I'm ready for Friday and my weekend already!

  • @jenjen047 I don't know, but its one specific person who is poisoning the well. Yesterday she got mad because even though she is only working two days next week, she didn't like who she was scheduled to work with. She called the DM after her shift and basically said there were problems with the schedule and accused my boss of always coming in late and leaving early. Which would be a decent complaint except our store is top in sales growth for the district right now and clearly she's doing her job WHILE ALSO granting everyone and their mother their requested vacations this and last month. She does a lot for us so the fact that someone is going out of their way to get her in trouble is really annoying. We are very close so if my boss is a target so am I.
  • @500days have fun at the beach!!!

@caseface5 - agree with @jenna8984...its bad enough to ask people to BYO but especially when people are traveling...are they supposed to swing by the grocery store on their way over and pick up food?

ive had 2 wedding headaches (ironically both related to the same set of cousins):

first....a few weeks ago before i had sent STDs or talked to anyone about being invited to my wedding, my cousin FB messages me to ask what airport to fly in to. i was shocked she would just assume she is invited! thankfully i was planning to invite her, otherwise that would have been incredibly awkward!!

second....the INSTANT they got my STD they booked flights....without talking to anyone. they land at dinnertime Friday night, so now my mom wants to push back the time of the rehearsal dinner to wait for them. i dont mind that so much as im just pissed off that they booked flights without talking to anyone to get a sense of the schedule for the weekend.
  • @caseface5 oh yea, then you definitely have to go. When is it?

@500days glad you liked the meal! Sucks that you lost power and had to throw stuff out.

@swazzle oh wow, that is super sad.

@jenjen047 I have no idea what happened on the pike. I heard 20 car pile up by Millbury but then some people were saying that didn't happen and it was just the rain and hail and minor accidents. So I dunno, I take it from 495 to Auburn every day. And it's normal to have that one thing in a relationship that will always be a point of contention but as long as you are both aware of it and work on it. My H has gotten 1000% times better with money over the years and I'm so proud of him but he still does small things (like carry a credit card balance) that drive me insane. He's working on it, and I'm working on not nagging him about it lol. You'll find the right balance!

@Jenjen047 It's just a shitshow all around.I agree with you guys! They do mention that they will "coordinate meat for OOT" I'm not sure if that means buy it or just pick it up at the store. I just want it to be over already!

@Jenna8489 We fly down October 1st, returning Tuesday night the 6th. Wedding on the 5th.

  • @500days Ugh, I'm so sorry about the power outage!!! I hate having all that food wasted too.

@Swazzle Catfish isn't my favorite, I prefer other white fishes over it if I have a choice. Maybe it's because I'm pretty sure I've only had it fried. I should try it fresh.

@caseface5 Aside from all the crazy disorganization, there's no way I'd probably even attend a Monday OOT wedding.

@jenna8984 I'm glad you had fun at your mini g2g. But, if your H only wears black, why did you buy him blue? Honestly, I'd see if black is available online or something so you know for sure he'd wear it. Northface is so nice and it isn't cheap!

Not a whole lot exciting for me I guess. Tonight I need to work in the yard (I was way too tired to do it yesterday) and do some other clean up projects around the house so we're ready for the cleaners on Friday. Tomorrow H and I are going to go grocery shopping for the shower and then all the real work begins!

  • @untouchablets - UGH thats awful. hopefully the DM will see its just her causing issues and take care of it.

@jenna8984 - youre exactly right. my parents have been happily married for 35 years but there is still 1 issue that comes up once in a blue moon between them. my sister and i actually commented to each other last week "its been 35 years, how have they not learned how to handle XYZ yet??"
  • @swazzle  I saw pictures of the fire on the news.  Was it stuck or just flipped and caught on fire?

@jenjen047 ugh that is frustrating, but at least you're compromising.

    @cocobellaf enjoy your massage!

@caseface5 hopefully it won't be as bad as you're anticipating, and you'll be able to have fun.

@500days geez how long were you without power for everything to go bad?

@minskat30 good luck with your talk! I hate confrontation too. I usually avoid confrontation until I no longer can, and then my bluntness takes over. I need to work on that.

We brought Callie to the house last night. She did ok. She kept trying to leave and would pace anytime either of us moved.  She slept most of the night, so we got some sleep.  Hopefully today is better for her.

I have to research internet and tv providers today. I hate this part of moving because I feel like all providers suck.  We're finishing the bathroom tonight, then the addition tomorrow.  Not sure of anything else planned.

  • Morning folks!

It's been considerably cooler lately. I wore a dress today and really regret it as my legs are freezing!

    So we had to drop the cupcake tier off, which was fine. I buckled it into the backseat so it wouldn't fly around. We were going to stop for lunch in the area, but opted not since our parking was only allowed an hour. {hipster area, they hate parking on streets yet no parking lots ...}

    Swung by Harvey's and headed home. Not much else. Did some dishes, moved stuff around. Matt played lego. {he's building some truck .... it's actually really extensive}

Tonight is laundry. Changed the sheets and need to vacuum the mattress.

That's about it. We're trying to keep things low-key since we're still recouping from wedding.

Was anyone else super exhausted afterwards??
  • @swazzle - I'm so glad to hear that the Catfish was good. I'm making it for dinner tonight and will also have it for lunch tomorrow! @tuarceatha and I are going to see it on Saturday!!

@500days - Ditto on hearing the catfish is good... can't wait to have it tonight!

@jenjen047 - If the people are going to be late to dinner, they'll be late to dinner. I don't see the need to inconvenience everyone else involved in the rehearsal dinner by moving it back. (Unless you're moving it from say 4:30p to 6p, which is still a normal dinner time).

    -----

Nothing too exciting going on today. I left the dog out of their crates this morning. I'll go home at lunch and then leave them out again this afternoon. It will be their first time being un-crated for the whole day. I'm excited to see how it goes!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • @labro Well he wears grey shirts that I have bought him, he just gravitates toward black. Mostly by accident since our hockey team is black & yellow and 98% of his clothes are Bruins lol. But as long as it's dark and neutral he will most likely like it, I would never buy him like a red or lime green. I specifically asked the store if he could return it as well.

  • @jenjen047 - Glad things are ok between you guys today! I would not plan my wedding events around non-VIP guests. That's super frustrating.

@500days - I'm excited to have it for lunch today! There's actually still so much that I might be having it for lunch tomorrow, too.

@labro - Mine last night was seasoned with salt and pepper, lightly tossed in rice flour and then pan fried. It reminded me so much of tilapia. When are you coming to New Jersey to work on my yard?

@speakeasy14 - It flipped and caught fire. I think the fact that it was underneath and overpass made it a lot worse. Before we moved, we had Verizon Fios which was fine until we moved (they were total dicks and tried to make me double-pay my last bill, long story). Now we have Directv for that and Comcast for internet. It's been good so far! H and I both wanted Directv because we're both out of the area for our football teams and now we can watch from home every Sunday.

@cu97tiger - Let me know how you like it! Fingers crossed for F&F today!

  • @cu97tiger Fingers crossed F + F behave themselves today!

@jenjen047 I wouldn't move your RD around, unless it's like from 4:30 to 6 like @cu97tiger mentioned. We had plenty of people who either chose not to come or couldn't make the RD and it was NBD. You could always try to meet them for drinks later or something too!

  • @cu97tiger hope your doggies are good! What kind/ how old?

@swazzle @cu97tiger  @labro - agreed about moving RD, but my parents are hosting the RD so its not worth fighting over IMO. we were planning to do rehearsal at 5, dinner at 6 and instead are doing rehearsal at 5, cocktails 6-7, dinner at 7.

@cu97tiger - good luck with the dogs today! fingers crossed it all goes well for you.

ETA: @eilis1228 - awesome to do list!! good luck getting it all done!
