Do good fences make good neighbors?

Re: Do good fences make good neighbors?

  • So she's trying to get three neighbors to pay for three sides of her fence? Awesome, free fence for her. That's not cool.

Side note, we are building a fence right now, and our neighbor offered for their fence to be our 4th side. Honestly, I don't think it looks as good, but I'm happy to save the money.

  • This is all so interesting to me.  I've build twice, and in both cases, fences were built on the property line, paid for by each neighbour (50/50), since the fence was used by both houses to separate the properties.  As well, when my parents replaced their falling down fence, both them and their neighbour paid for it, since again, it was separating their properties.

That said, the fences needed to be replaced, or both neighbours wanted it.  Here, if you don't want a fence, your neighbour can build one on their property, right against the property line.  Anything on the line itself is 50/50.  Personally, if it doesn't need replacing, you don't have to agree.

Meh, I guess it depends on if you like what she picked out. If I liked it and had the money, sure whatever. But if I didn't like it and/or couldn't afford it, then I'd say no.
I don't just have $400 laying around.  And if I did, I have many many other things I could spend it on.  Don't we always tell people that you're not allowed to spend other people's money?  Why is she trying to spend mine?  She already paid the $50 permit fee, so they're getting the fence whether we fork over the money or not.
It looks like you've found your answer, then.
