Who else isn't off for Columbus Day?

image

Holy cow I am sore today.  I played 18 holes of golf on Saturday. It was my third time golfing all season. For not playing, I did pretty well.

After I got back from golf we went over to a friend's house.  Her husband was throwing a surprise party for her birthday.  Well there were a lot of screaming kids, so all of our friends slipped out by 9.
Yesterday was my nephew's baptism.  He's my best friend's son.  He was so good all day, and slept through the entire baptism.  So between playing golf and then holding a baby, my arms are sore.

Tonight I'm going over to my mom's to do laundry and spend time with her.  The rest of the week we will be doing a complete overhaul clean up of the outside of the house. I'm so excited for all the construction material to be gone so I can finally decorate the front porch!!!

How was everyone else's weekend?

I don't have Columbus Day off either :(

@speakeasy14 Aww I'm glad your nephew was good for his baptism. Both my Godsons where pains haha

My weekend was good. Definitely not long enough. FI and I watched the Walking Dead last night and made an awesome dinner. I got to see one of my sisters yesterday. Her and a friend we to the Grand Canyon and stopped by the house on their way home. I got to show her the wedding location and she loves it.

Has anybody seen any good movies lately?

How long have you played golf @speakeasy14 ? I'm terrible at it.

I'm not off and in an all day meeting (ugh, its going to be a painful day).  Weekend was good.  I'm exhausted though as a result.  Friday was grocery shopping after a long day of work, then crashing early.  Saturday I got up super early and started cleaning...H had a late night so he joined me after a few hours.  We cleaned the entire house and cooked for our friends' visit.  Saturday night we had two couples come from Chicago to visit us.  We chatted, ate, and a few people (ahem, the boys) got really drunk.  H was tipsy...why he thought getting a bottle of whisky was a good idea I don't know.  I was trying to be the hostess and let H enjoy his friends' time since he doesn't see them too much.  The other two guys got into a little bit of a tiff (hello, drinking) but H defused it.

Sunday we fed everyone breakfast, walked to the lake for a bit and said goodbye.  It was more cleaning and cooking for the week for me so I feel like my weekend was just gone in a big hurry.  It was fun though!
  • @minskat30 my bf taught me two years ago.  I'm horrible as well; a good day for me is when I make contact with the ball. Your weekend sounds fun, even though it went by fast.

@twodimes You look stunning! So how formal did the event end up being?

  • @twodimes - You are so FREAKING pretty!!!
  • I'm at work too. Last year my job took Columbus Day away and gave us the day after Thanksgiving instead. Most people were really happy about that. I liked having a day off in October but whatever, we really shouldn't be celebrating Columbus anyways lol.
I took off next Monday since it's my birthday so I have that day off to look forward to.

Friday I tried to rush home- there was a shit ton of traffic and I was picking up a pizza to eat asap since the concert we were going to was really early. I ate and got ready and went with H and his friend. We met another friend there and I proceeded to get WAY too drunk and caused a scene being super emotional. Then I moved on from being sad drunk to happy drunk and we ended the night at a strip club. lol. I seriously hate getting that drunk. I was hungover all day Saturday and it sucks. I managed to do 1 load of laundry and shower and that's it.

Yesterday I was feeling much better. I laid in bed reading most of the day, cleaned up a little and then went food shopping last night and made dinner.

  • @TwoDimes My memory of it is pretty blurry - I think I was making fun of some guy at the concert and H told me stop because he didn't want me to start anything and apparently I was really offended. I was a drama queen!

  • @TwoDimes @eilis1228 Thanks! Our anniversary is officially this coming Sunday but I'm all about celebrating an anniversary week!

  • @eilis1228 I always just line the steps with pumpkins. Last year I had fairytale pumpkins.  I really like these:

@speakeasy14 CUTE! I love pumpkins. I don't think you can go wrong with pumpkins.

@GoldenPenguin I cannot get enough of your new pup! He is the most adorable pittie ever! <3 Your weekend sounds fabulous. Antiquing in Vermont, new HP books, puppy lovins, awesome food... #winning. I'm sorry you had to drive all the way into the office today! That really sucks! I'm glad traffic wasn't too bad though. I can't believe how close the wedding is. My stomach has butterflies in it 24/7 these days. It's ridiculous.

  • Morning!
I am also working today, but later.

I had my interview this morning and it went well. I THINK I was offered the job, they clearly need someone, but the hiring manager wasn't sure if the store manager also wanted to interview me or not. I don't know how I feel right now. I definitely want to take the job but I have some loose ends to tie. I asked my mom if she could see about putting me on her health insurance since I'm under 26 and still eligible. And then I have to talk to my friend (the one who offered to have me work full time for her earlier this year) and see if she will let me work two or three days a week. If I can just get those two things straightened out I'll feel much better about giving my notice.

This weekend wasn't really eventful but BF surprised me by coming home a day early so I got to see him yesterday instead of having to wait till Tuesday so I was really happy about that. I just want this week to fly because Friday night BF and I are leaving for Boston and I am super excited!!
  • @goldnepenguin I know :( hopefully the house is finished soon so I can make plans

  • @GoldenPenguin I had no idea there was such a thing as Indigenous People Day! A few years ago my sister explained to her kids the truth about Colmbus and she was like their teachers are going to hate me because I want them to know the truth about things. haha. I feel like there are so many facts missing from what I learned in elementary school and it's bullshit.

  • @labro & @eilis1228 - he is such a good boy <3 For only being home for a week, he is doing really well with potty training, he & Violet are BFFs - and he totally listens to her if he's getting too rough - he sleeps in his crate without much fuss (he only gets excited if he hears Brady), and he LOVES to snuggle and give kisses. I love him.

Yes!! There are like a dozen major cities around the country who have started celebrating it instead of Columbus Day, and I LOVE it. LINK

  • @TwoDimes - So pretty!

@labro - Happy Anniversary Week!  I fully support celebrating it for a whole week.

I, too, am at work today.  And I'm frustrated...I had a whole anti-Columbus Day lecture planned for the first day of my new class, but fewer than half of my students actually showed up!  I'm guessing they couldn't get childcare because of the holiday (a common problem at this campus--fully 75% of my students are older and have kids, and if the kids are out of school so are they).  Anyway, I'll give the lecture on Wednesday, but it would have been perfect for today!

I had a nice weekend for the most part.  Friday I stayed home and cleaned the apartment and went through my closet and got rid of a ton of stuff.  Saturday a friend and I went to the outlet mall where I proceeded to get new stuff for my closet.  Yesterday I stayed home and did absolutely nothing, then went to Mass and Chipotle.

I did get frustrated with my brother's fiancée this weekend.  I was sitting around Saturday night watching TV and checked FB to see pictures from her bridal shower.  They were lovely pictures, but...neither I nor my two sisters ever received an invitation.  I understand that we all live out of state and probably couldn't have come, but...we're family.  She's called me "the big sister I never had" and we lived together over the summer.  Both of my brothers-in-law are in the wedding party; my nephew is the ring bearer...it isn't like she's just some random girl that we've never met that my brother is marrying.  I probably know her a little better than my sisters do, since I was still living there when they started dating, but she's met everybody.  Am I wrong in thinking we should have gotten invitations?
  • @futuremrshistorian I wouldn't get too upset over it. I had the hostesses send invitations to people who were local - so not even my own grandmother got one. I don't think she meant harm by it. She just knew you wouldn't be able to come and the important thing is the wedding anyway.

@labro - Yeah, that makes sense.  I guess I didn't think she only limited it to only local people, since her sister was there (and she lives a plane ride away), but I understand.  I don't have the energy to keep worrying about it...it's definitely not something I'm going to say anything to her or my brother about.

*Edited for clarity and because I haven't had enough coffee today to be able to type.
  • @futuremrshistorian I'm surprised you have classes today. My campus is closed, and they are making tomorrow a Monday schedule to make up for it.

  • @speakeasy14 - Ugh, I wish.  It's so quiet up here today...I would like to go ahead and go home, but I have an evening class that I know probably only half of the students are going to show up to, so I'll probably have to cancel it anyway.  There's just no reason to cover content information that they need if I'm going to have to repeat it on Wednesday.
  • *rips out hair*

Today's adventures in tracking down RSVP stragglers:
"No, you cannot bring your children. I'm sorry, but our venue cannot accommodate children."

"No, you cannot have a plus one. I'm sorry, but the venue cannot accommodate extra guests."

"No, I cannot report you as a maybe to my venue. I need a firm response by Wednesday." (RSVPs were due last Friday, by the way...)

I know I shouldn't, but I feel so incredibly rude laying down the law like this. I wish I could accommodate all of these requests, but we simply cannot. I thought the invitations made these things clear...

  • @TwoDimes OMG after all that work, those people no showed AND you had people ignore the seating chart?!

  • I HAVE BEEN ON THIS CALL FOR 8 HOURS AND 50 MINUTES!  I can't stand it guys.  My head hurts.

@eilis1228 - RSVP drama sucks.  We had so much drama from H's side....he kept telling me it was an Indian thing to not respond/change your mind/bring extras/etc to which I told him it was just a rude thing, not an Indian thing.  Wine helped a lot, I think you deserve some.
