Did you miss me?

What's up with everyone?  How was the holiday?  Columbus Day for us Americans, and Thanksgiving for the Canadians, right?

I'm going to AW my trip here in a little bit.  Today I have a ton of meetings so I'll be in and out, but fill me in on everything, y'all.

Re: Catch-up Tuesday

  • Hey! How was Albuquerque?! Awesome, I'm sure!

    My weekend was good- got to see/ hold 4 babies including my 2 nieces so that was fun. H went to his best friend's to help him with yardwork all day Sunday, so I did my Walmart shopping and painted some shelves. Not much else going on!

  • @Swazzle - you would be right!  I'm leaving it.  HA.
  • @swazzle I can commiserate- the Bruins are not doing well either lol. Great job on the closet cleanout!

    @labro I was reading about that yesterday because apparently Friday was Leif Erikson day since he was our Norse founder before Columbus. And also how many states out west have the Native American Day. My history major friend and I always joke and call it Amerigo Vespucci day.

  • Yesterday wasn't a holdiay for me @cocobellaf but I hope you had fun on your trip!  Can't wait to hear all about it!

    @swazzle - Yummm, apple butter smelling house.  I wish I could have gotten a whiff.

    @labro - AW your porch please when its done?

    @jenna8984 - Awww, babies!!!

    ----------------------

    Yesterday was terrible.  My meeting went from 8 am until 7 pm with a 15 minute break for lunch and one (yes one) 5 minute break for the bathroom.  I was exhausted last night.  Today is going to be more of the same until we get this damn case resolved.  Yuck.  Needless to say, I didn't make it to the gym yesterday.  I'm really hoping to go today because I need the stress relief.
  • @minskat30 Ugh, I feel you soooo much on these awful days! I hope it ends soon!!!

    @labro - Thank you...I'm sorry anyone can relate to this hell though.  The time between the mid January to mid April and the end of August to Thanksgiving is just terrible in legal finance.  Is yours cyclical?
  • @minskat30 I suppose. It's definitely the worst during the quarter that ends our fiscal year, but since we follow quarters, it generally seems to be crazy year-round except during the holiday season when things quiet down for a bit.

  • @TwoDimes I'm definitely not doing anything fancy!!! I just have some mums, pansies, and pumpkins and a fall wreath and that's it!

  • @TwoDimes - CUBBIES YAAAAAAY!  Last night was a great game!

    @minskat30 - Ugh...I am so sorry.  I hope it all gets resolved soon and you get to make it to the gym.

    @CocoBellaF - Welcome back!!

    Things have quieted down at work now that the first part of the semester is over--I get a break from grading anything major for about a week and my lectures are all written, which means I get to actually do a little reading and research!  I'm hoping to finish one book today and start another...although I've already taken a power nap in my desk chair, so that may be a tall order.

    I came into the office super early today so that I can leave in time for yoga and then go home and watch the Cubs game.  Hoping they can clinch the NLDS tonight and don't have to play a game 5!
  • @TwoDimes - The wings were delicious! I'd recommend serving the Frank's on the side after you bake the wings though or else put them back under the broiler again after tossing in that. They were soggy and we prefer crispy wings.There were leftovers and I just stuck them under the broiler for about 5 minutes for lunch yesterday. SO good. Remind me (probably again) of what you're reading right now?

  • Wahoo! Back to normalcy.

    I returned from San Antonio on Sunday, so yesterday I was a slug most the day... watched this week's Doctor Who and a bunch of travel channel Halloween stuff I had recorded. Then BF and I met up and took a walk around town since the weather was nice, and ate at one of the few places that has outdoor seating.

    The trip was fun, but still work. Wednesday night could have been a total nightmare, my flight got majorly delayed so there was no way to catch my connecting flight. Luckily I got everything rescheduled and one of my best friends was actually on the same delayed flight, so we hung out at the airport bar, sat next to each other on the flight down to Atlanta, shared a comped hotel room (thanks delta, for not sucking too much), and took the shuttle to the airport the following morning at 5:30 am.

    San Antonio was nice, I spent most of my time freezing in a conference hall though. Thursday was conference stuff, Friday was more conference stuff, including my mini speech as part of the product presentation (the company makes 3D printed prosthetic covers), followed by a night out eating tex mex and drinking too much with competitors and collaborators. Saturday was hungover conference morning. Once the conference stuff was done I took a nap and then wandered over to the Alamo and around the Riverwalk. Had an early flight out on Sunday morning, and face planted on my bed the second I got home.

    I'm kind of looking forward to staying home the rest of the year, but it's entirely possible the company will decide to send me somewhere else. I actually had to decline going to San Diego next weekend (fly out Friday, return Sunday) because I already had fun plans with BF and I'm just getting a bit burnt out.

    TONS of work to do today and tomorrow, so this might be a P&R. I'm going to try to skim through everyone's posts a some point though!

  • Welcome back @cocobellaf! The balloon festival sounds so nice! But omg how did your H not know his license had expired!?

    @swazzle I want apple butter.

    @minskat30 ugh that meeting sounds horrible, hope today is better

    @labro I wish I had your landscaping/decorating skills

    So I did some - it's my birthday month - shopping yesterday.   I got stuff from Sephora, clothes (from some super cheap site called Rose Wholesale), and shoes.
    From Sephora - A fragrance sample set, a new type of dry shampoo (a company called VERB), free shampoo and conditioner from VERB, and my birthday gift of NARS lip crayons.

    From DSW -  THESE flats in nude and black, and THESE wedges.

    From Rosewholesale: I'm not expecting great quality since everything was crazy cheap, and from China.  But everything looked so cute and comfy I couldn't resist.  THIS grey tunic. THIS bowback top (bows and open back <3 ).  THIS hooded tunic. And THIS awesome hoodie.  Supposedly I should be receiving everything Thursday; I just tracked the shipment and it's still in Singapore so I don't think that's happening.

  • @speakeasy14 - It expired 9/30/15.  We left on 10/7/15.  I don't know how he missed it!
  • @minskat30 - That sounds brutal, I hope today is better.

    @swazzle - Nice job cleaning out your closet! You inspired me to finally get the pile in the corner up off the floor and over to Goodwill!

    This weekend was good. Saturday we went to a beer tasting at a local brewery with @tuarceatha and Mr. Tuarceatha. That night we went to a retirement party for one of DH's CWs and then went out for a drink with another set of CWs. Good times.

    Sunday, I finally put together a new shoe organizer in our back bedroom, and moved a whole bunch of shoes back there. It cleared up so much room in my closet, I feel like I can breathe again. Then I went for a five mile run. It was a little rough, but I got it done.

    Tonight I'm getting my hair trimmed. I also need to buy a new box of hair dye because my roots are TERRIBLE.

    This coming weekend I'm heading down to Richmond to hang out with my sister's family and see a friend I haven't seen in years.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • @cocobellaf omg! Good thing he didn't get pulled over! We get our license renewals 3-4 months prior to expiration.  Do you guys not get something from the DMV in advance?
    image
  • @speakeasy14 - Nope.  The state used to, but they quit doing it a LOOOOONG time ago.
  • @speakeasy14 - Birthday month shopping for the win!  The NARS lip pencils are amazing!  I wore the red one yesterday and am wearing the pink one today.  They're really moisturizing, although I think the matte one has better longevity than the satin one.  Love those shoes too!
  • Morning folks!

    @CocoBellaF welcome back! Can't wait to see photos!
    @jenna8984 yay babies! How fun :)
    @swazzle Congrats on going through the closet! Never a fun task!
    @labro no such things as too many peonies :) I'm envious you can decorate a porch!
    @speakeasy14 birthday month! birthday month!

    Thanksgiving for us. Saturday didn't do much. Mainly cleaning and prep, and baking.

    Sunday we had my mum come over so we didn't go to Matt's dad's side of the family {more on that after}
    Dinner was good. Matt did a ham. He also dropped pot of carrots in boiling water while mashing potatoes.
    No burns, but our floor is SPARKLING now!

    Monday was a holiday, so we went to Matt's mum and stepdad's place for meal. Food was good.
    Since there's an election happening, there's a lot of political talk at the meal. At his mum's place it's civilized HOWEVER on his dad's side {not his dad, just his brothers, mother and their families} they are hard core Catholic and Conservative. Basically, Stephen Harper is the next coming of Jesus.

    Matt's brother was saying things that were said. It's so frustrating. I have zero issue with religion or if people are Conservative votes. You have your own choice, but they are actually ignorant, racist and bigoted in their thoughts.
    Long story short, we told Matt's brother if we opt to not go {which I am now vastly hesitant BUT we'll go in hopes elections make people crazy} that he could come with us to dinner.
    Also, in some of the comments that he said were mentioned, I actually would have up and left. They are that rude. I'm in such a ragey mood and I wasn't there.

    *end vent*

    Anyways .... sorry, about that little rage fit ....
    Short week this week. Groceries Thursday as usual, tea party on Saturday. Pretty excited for that! Matt's step-dad's bday is Saturday also, so we picked up a gift. Also got a couple my add-ons to my mum's gift and found something for part of Matt's gift :)
  • @eilis1228 The shower sounds super sweet, make sure to tell us all about it! Also, how freaking adorable of your Fi to take over the seating chart and want that to be his special project.

  • Yay for a three day weekend- which means this week should fly by! My H and I took a trip up to NH to the White Mts. I love it up there, especially this time of year with all of the foliage and apple cider and CIDER DONUTS! The best. And outlet shopping with no tax always helps.

    After work I have to get my nails done and figure out what's for dinner. I really just want to sleep but I don't think that will be an option.

    @eilis1228 good luck following up with RSVP stragglers. I hated that!
  • @eilis1228 - How sweet of your coworkers! Have a great time at the shower.

    @500days - I <3 cider donuts!

    @cocobellaf - I once got pulled over and had a cop come up to my car with her hand on her gun because when I had gotten new plates for my car, the DMV screwed up and never actually registered them. So when the cop ran the plates, they came up as 'unregistered' or basically stolen. I never got a renewal notice because they weren't technically in the system. She was nice enough not to give me a ticket but suggested I get them taken care of that day because another cop could pull me over at any time. Yuck.

  • @swazzle - But what if you found the PERFECT pair of shoes or boots or something?!? ;)

    @CocoBellaF - Every year my office has an "Everything Pumpkin" themed potluck. If you get any good ideas out of your back-off let me know! I did mac n cheese one year, and pumpkin filled crescent rolls once. (I'm terrible at cheesecake, or else I would just ask for your recipe, haha!)

    @speakeasy14 - That top with the bow is the cutest thing I've ever seen! I also SERIOUSLY love that long hoodie. OMG. Let me know if it's good enough quality, because I may need one for myself.

    @MissKittyDanger - Happy belated thanksgiving! I have some strong conservatives in my family too. It's always a coin toss to see who's gonna piss off who at any given meal.

    @500days - I think I'm gonna get my nails done too! I'm thinking orange and black for Halloween, but since it's going to last until halfway through November I'm not sure I want something so themed.

    -------------------------------------------

    I missed you ladies! Sorry I didn't really post on the KUI thread. I legitimately could not think of a response to anything. I was reading it though.

    Saturday was lovely! My friend and I got through the first two seasons of Degrassi, and I was absolutely amazed at how much I remembered. We basically re-lived the entire series without having to watch it. We ate too much, and I still feel enormous, but that's what happens when you drink a ton and sit on your ass for an entire day.

    Sunday I did a ton of gardening. I finally cut back this damn bamboo that's planted along our fence. I'm kind of mad that it's there, but for now I'd rather maintain it then go through the hassle of trying to get rid of it.

    Yesterday I was a bum again. I finished all of the PLL on Netflix, and my friend is downloading the latest season for me because the ending was creepy and amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next! Luckily, they recently added a new season of Criminal Minds, so I got into that and started a new cross stitching project. I was excited all day for my new StitchFix delivery, but there was no mail. :(

    I'm also expecting the next Humans of New York book today! If any of you don't follow HONY on facebook, you really should. It's worth it.

  • @futuremrshistorian Thanks for the heads up! I usually use a stain, so I was wondering how well they lasted.

    @cu97tiger Good thing the cop was understanding!

    @alpacina I'll let you know in 6 months when it arrives from China ;)
    image
  • @AlPacina It's unfortunate. They're really nice people and I really don't want to mess any relationships up with them, but if they act like that I cannot handle it.
  • Swazzle said:
    @AlPacina - You mean... like these beauts?

    Ummmm, YES. Exactly!
