Venue with Glass elevator introduction in NY/NJ/CT?

Re: Venue with Glass elevator introduction in NY/NJ/CT?

  • I am on this board to get suggestions on venue not be criticized.  It's very unfortunate that someone cannot ask a question without getting negative responses.  Most are planning the happiest day of their lives and just want help planning and don't expect to be ridiculed.  I am a firm believer in "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all" (just keep on scrolling) So unless you have a suggestion of a venue, there is nothing more to be said.  Have a wonderful day!!!

Am I the only one thinking that the reason more venues don't have elevators coming out of the floor is because they're dated looking? I feel like that could be something out of an 80's music video.
Or Hunger Games. May the odds be ever in your favor. ******** Of course, I don't get the hang up on being a special snowflake either. Like another post wanting to rent a dress because the bride at a wedding she just attended had the same dress she already bought. Yes, in a brilliant moneymaking scheme, dress makers make more than one of each dress and venues host more than one event. Shocking, I know. But no two people are the same and no two weddings are going to have the same guest list...so right off the bat your wedding will be unique. I really hope the people who spend this much time worrying about superficial details to be "unique" are spending at least as much time worrying about being proper hosts and providing things that actually affect the comfort and enjoyment of their guests.

  • That was funny thank you.  It's just hard for me to believe that there are only 2 of these places in such a big city.

Unfortunately,  I do not have time to go back and forth with you.  If you don't have a venue to suggest to me then this conversation is over.  Have a good day and enjoy all the time you have on your hands.

F.Y.I Many venues do not have these elevators because they are very expensive to install and it sends their insurance rates through the roof.  Secondly, I'm not to familiar with 80's music videos and even if it is SO WHAT!!! it's what I want.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly: you'd rather ask your guests to drive all over the trip state area because you feel that it's more important to make a grand entrance coming out of the floor (something that takes 60 seconds tops) rather than use a local venue that is more convenient for your guests that actually HAS what you want because not only do you think you should get what you want when you want it but you should also get what no one you know has ever had? Am I really understanding that your guests comfort and convenience is getting thrown under the bus in the name of your wedding vision and need to be unique?? And I have to laugh at not knowing 80's music videos. I guarantee that your guests will.

Can somebody please name a venue in the NYC, CT or NJ area where I can get married at the foot of a giant statue of a woman in a toga holding a torch and a book? And please don't mention Liberty Island, as my friend got married there and I have to have a completely different giant statue of a woman in a toga holding a torch and a book.

Seriously OP- you have 2 good, local options of this one, incredibly obscure venue feature. Either realise that in order to have this feature, you either have to book the same venue as your friend or have a completely different venue with no glass lift. Frankly, that is such a distinct and hard to find feature, if your friends have already done it, your weddings are going to be similar no matter what. You might as well book the convenient venue.

  • Thank you!! You are one of the few people that actually made a suggestion instead of criticizing.  Appreciate it.

I googled " "glass elevator" nj wedding" and came up with this:

"Two gorgeous spiral staircases encase an all-glass elevator which opens to the ballroom."

Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but worth a look.

But maybe if your friends have already done glass elevators and you're really concerned about being different, you should do some research on other alternative entrance ideas? It sounds like this one's rarely available, and you may have to pick whether it's more important to you to have the entrance or to be somewhere different than your friends.

  • If you don't want to get married at places that other people have gotten married at before AND you want the cheesy floor elevator entrance, I suggest you hire a team of architects, engineers, and contractors and build your own venue.

OR you could pick one of the venues from your original post.

Or try calling around casinos in Atlantic City or Las Vegas. This seems like something they would have.
There's a spy-themed bar in Milwaukee that has this.  But it's not glass.  Though it does come out of the floor.
  • Thanks for the suggestion and stab at the same time.  At most weddings the bride and groom walk in after the bridal party and groomsmen now that is "cheesy" and regular.   Appreciate the second part of your message though..

So getting married at these 2 locations are out because you know others who have gotten married there and you want to be unique.

Yet the VERY unique entrance of popping out of floor of a dance floor in a glass elevator at another location is okay.

Got it.  Wait, no I don't.

  • It simply amazes me what people find important.

My DH had his first communion party at one of those venues that have the glass elevator you mentioned.  I keep forgetting if his entrance was from the glass elevator.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Guys. How she looks is WAY more important than the comfort of her guests or the lifetime commitment she's making. It is such a sad state that there are people out there that would rather force their guests into Tri State Area traffic for their vision rather than plan an event that takes their guests' comfort into account. I am really ashamed at how we are raising our youth that they think this is reasonable behavior. And don't get me started on not knowing 80's music videos.
This is how it is now with a lot of people. They want a wedding, not a marriage. Who cares if her guests have to travel 3 hours?! All that matters is that damn elevator. IT'S HER DAY! IT'S HER VISION!
  • Another 80s ish reference .... I'm thinking of the "Beam me up, Snotty" scene from Spaceballs.  Anyone else?

  • I am soooooo enjoying this......who knew that my first post would get so much attention. Thank you..

I love love, love, the individuals that keep commenting on this same post... I am soooo happy that I'M important enough to stay on your mind alllll day lol.  The

term" IT'S HER DAY! IT'S HER VISION! "  and that's right I only get ONE day that's mine!

" They love me, they really love me" lol

Really?  You only get one day?  Do you live in a town called Brigadoon?

    Ugh. no.
  • Also, what is this nonsense with it being "her day" or "your day"? Are these people marrying themselves?

Silly girl.  You seem to believe that men get a say in their wedding.  They got the say with the proposal.  The wedding is all about the Princess Bride.  Men don't count.
  • If I were to go to this wedding and learn that the only reason I drove a stupid distance away was for an elevator, I'd be pissed. I came to the B&G, not an elevator.

IMO, an elevator is not going to make your wedding unique. It will not make your day more special. Do you think it will be the BEST moment of that day? Or the most memorable? When you look back on your wedding day, you will remember most the feelings/emotions, not necessarily the entrance.

  • Someone has watched too many episodes of Bridezillas.
  • The elevator thing is so overdone.

I don't know - maybe the Brownstone? Just try googling venues and then call and ask.
I have never seen this, in over 30 weddings.

I must not be getting invited to the NJ weddings. . .

I'm sorry but I find this cheesy as all hell.  And if you watch the clip you will see that the cheering dies down fast because 1) the thing they are on is moving so damn slow and 2) most likely every single person in that place is over their ridiculous entrance.

But hey, the venue in the video is located on Long Island so it could work for you.

I grew up on Long Island and I'm not surprised in the least that we bred this kind of nonsense. This is so 80s new money, I love it.
  • That video was so painful I can't stand it.....
