@beanbot2002 - Bean's gone through some life changes in the last two months, and the holiday season is going to be really tough on him, too. I think that you are doing an amazing job and being a wonderful momma. A really helpful tip I picked up is Oreo Feedback. When you're talking about behaviors/attitudes/things he needs to change, start by telling him something he is already doing well. Then, go with your negative comment/feedback. Before you finish, close with another positive observation about him and his behavior. Like an oreo, you're sandwiching the negative between positive (except let's be real, the cookie part is gross and the cream is what it's all about).

You'll figure this out and Bean will continue to be a lovely, productive, well rounded american citizen, I promise.

@Swazzle that rug looks great!! I can definitely see how it's more blue IRL, but I think you're right, it fits the space anyways.

@minskat30 Good luck at your conference! Wear your confidence like a coat of honor! You have kicked ass, are kicking ass, and will always kick ass, despite what ex-boss has done or said.

I woke up cranky because I was still in pain. I doubled up on pain meds (dr approved) so I could sleep through the night. It worked, save for the dogs waking me up to go to the bathroom every 2 hours.

On the bright side, it's 4:15 and I've gone 2 hours without pain or nausea, a first since last Tuesday morning. So, maybe the end is finally here! Kidney stone free, pain free! What a crazy life to lead.

Now that I'm feeling human, I've got to really buckle down on some sewing projects. I have two quilts, including @eilis1228's wedding quilt, to finish, not to mention a couple Christmas gifts, all ASAP. One I was paid to do is already a week behind the scheduled due date.

Tonight at youth group, I'm reading the kids a picture book and we're singing Christmas carols. Because it's the holidays.

I am so happy you're kidney stone free though! My dad has had chronic stones for years now and I can't believe how much suffering it causes him. I hope the pain stays away.

@audrewuh - Speaking of kicking ass and taking names, that would be you lady. I'm glad you are starting to feel better. I hope you don't have to wear your pretty pretty princess gown for a loooong time.

@speakeasy14 - I wish I knew more about Now Jade. I haven't stayed there...I've stayed at Excellence, Le Blanc and Secrets only in Cancun. I can't wait to hear about your experience there though! I'm sure its going to be great!

I'm in Arizona, guys. I met the nicest couple at the airport...they used to be missionaries and were such a sweet older couple. I talked with them for nearly an hour about all their work and trips...really a great couple. They asked me what I did for a living and I told them I was a corporate finance attorney and I got the usual response of "But you're too nice to be a lawyer, you must be a kindergarten teacher or nurse or something". I swear no one thinks I'm a lawyer when I meet them and I find it hilarious. The wife even threw in a "you are far to pretty to be a lawyer too" which I burst out laughing at. I didn't know lawyers were all supposed to be mean trolls but apparently I'm not a mean troll and I let H know what a catch he has to get one of the mysterious nice, non-troll lawyer wives.

The hotel is nice, guys. I ordered room service and they have a lot of great gluten free options so...yeah food!

I'm hoping to walk around the resort a bit in the morning before the conference kicks off. I'm also trying to convince myself that I don't need a massage (and I know H would say our budget doesn't need me getting a massage) but I'm not sure logic will win tomorrow if the spa looks nice. There is this great outdoor area here with little fire pits everywhere too and people were drinking wine outside, which looked fabulous. At the very least, I'll plan on getting a non-alcoholic drink of some sort out there tomorrow evening.

That's a really great idea. When we were driving home from soccer we had a thoughtful conversation about things he can do, things he can change, and what he's doing really well.

@labro - It makes me feel better that someone else had a similar experience and it worked out well in the end. My hairstylist is the girl who has been doing my hair since I was 16, so it's completely independent from the MUA.

I did speak up at my 2nd trial about things I didn't like and she fixed them, but there were still some things I couldn't put my finger on that I didn't like. Fingers crossed for tomorrow's trial!

@speakeasy14 and @minskat30 thank you! It's been 13 years since the last one, so hopefully I can go at least another 13 before the next one. Or, you know, never again. But whatevs.

Keep in mind that he's experiencing the exact same emotions you are when it comes to the holidays and the loss of your mom. If I had to guess, I would say that he feels overwhelmed by all of the emotions of the last couple months (good and bad, but still emotions, and 13 year old hormones do not help with that), so he's attempting to control the one thing he feels he can right now, which is school and his school work. It might help to keep that in mind when strategizing with him. He may not even recognize or be able to articulate it, but it's a pretty common factor when I've worked with kids who are acting up in school. You're doing such a great job, lady. You're a boss.
