Friday!

Re: Friday!

  • @cu97tiger I will not quote so labro doesn't yell at me lol. But tranquility can be misleading in photos as well. Have you ever seen some of the world's most sought after locations- zoomed out? They show like the pyramids in Egypt just sitting in the middle of a dirty, graffiti filled city. Or the Taj Mahal with 2,000 tourists in front and brown water in the ponds with beggars to the side. I hiked Machu Picchu and the brochures don't show the 6 year olds selling Gatorade halfway up the mountain lol. Nothing is really as "secluded" and magical as professional photos make it out to be. Again not saying the South Pacific isn't gorgeous because I haven't been.

  • @GoldenPenguin I just now saw your post...we're dream trip twins. Also, I miss you and I love you. And I miss you.

  • @CocoBellaF Just a warning...my cousin's daughter is a Kennedy and she is a born performer. She's a handful to be sure but cute and a lot of fun when you look past the "Oh God, I'm terrified for her parents when she's a teenager" feeling you get.

  • @eilis1228 I did not like the Handmaid's Tale it was so odd.

@twodimes Yes I wanted to go to bora bora for the overwater bungalows.

@alpacina your trip to NYC would include us going to see a show together too ;-)

@swazzle yay the car is fixed! Let me know how The Revenant is I kind of want to see it in theatres but sure if I can just wait until it's out on Netflix

@cocobellaF I love the names.  I got most of my maternity clothes from thred up I loved them.

@minskat30 I hope you don't have to cancel your trip

    Anniversary

  • @alpacina I want in on the Broadway trip since you know I practically live in NYC

  • @Swazzle - FBIL & FFIL saw the Revenant last weekend and said it was great!
@CocoBellaF - What a great steal on that stroller! And yay for first baby purchase!
@minskat30 - That is such a bummer about your trip, I hope you end up being able to go. And it sounds like you really are the research queen! I was going to offer to ask FI if he knows anything about Zika, but it sounds like you already know more than he would anyway!
@Peaseblossom55 - I'm glad the call with the geneticist went okay.
@Speakeasy14 - Have fun on your girls night! I hope your friend doesn't bring too much drama to the night!
@GoldenPenguin - Boo to not having a long weekend!
@Untouchablets - Hey, I'm still in my pajamas too! I don't have work today and I'm being super lazy.
    -----------------------------------
What are you wearing today? I'm being super lazy, so I'm still in my pajamas.
What are you most looking forward to about this weekend? I don't really have any plans for this weekend.
What are you not looking forward to about this weekend? Finishing up course pep for the semester. They make us use this master syllabus that I think looks like shit and I'm really annoyed that I have to use it.
If you had a week off work and unlimited funds, where would you like to visit in the continental US? I would go to the glamping resort Paws Up in Montana. It's looks like so much fun but it's also insanely expensive so I'd need unlimited funds to ever actually go.
If you had two weeks off work and unlimited funds, where would you like to visit in the whole world? New Zealand definitely.

  • @bethsmiles I loooove not having to wear a bra for the first half of my day lol

@eilis1228 @Swazzle I read The Handmaid's Tale a couple years ago for the first time. It wasn't required reading in school for us so I don't think I ever heard of it until I saw a thread about it on TK. It was interesting and bizarre and sad. I thought the ending was pretty vague too, which I kind of like sometimes because then it leaves you to imagine different outcomes.

@audrewuh I'm not sure what the latest is. H was all about filing a police report but he hasn't actually done so. He did file an affadavit with Wal Mart and called Taco Mac but I have no idea on the final outcome. I hope your cc has still been ok! Did you change the number?

  • @labro @swazzle @peaseblossom55 It wasn't required reading for me in school, but I'd heard The Handmaid's Tale was an amazing book that I had to read. When I saw that Claire Danes narrated the audio book (and it's free on Kindle Unlimited), I figured I'd give it a shot. I really like her as the narrator, but the pace of the book is sooooo slow. I'm about 55% of the way through it, and it seems like the action is finally going to start. Up until now it's just been descriptions of life in the new world and what life was like just prior to this regime taking over. Interesting, but not the kind of thing you want to listen to on the elliptical. I thought a dystopian book would be more like The Hunger Games or 1984-- tons of action and really great imagery and pacing. I was very wrong!

  • @eilis1228 I felt like it had such a slow start.  I also felt confused as to what really happened at the end.

  • @eilis1228 I don't know who Claire Danes is but yeah...I'm not sure if this is the right book for an audio book. I'm not a big audio book person TBH because I read a lot faster than the pace of an audio book usually and yeah...if it's not a super duper action packed book (and this one is not meant to be IMO, it's more a thought provoking piece), then it isn't going to work as well. I wouldn't compare it to the Hunger Games.

  • @labro perhaps I was confused on the ending because it was a bit vague.  It was so many different things like you said.

I want to play and gif so badly right now.  Especially about Claire Danes but I'm in DEAL HELL.  :(  And insurance hell.  And trip/CDC hell.  I need a drink, which I won't have.  I'm settling for a ton of chocolate right now.
  • JEEZ YOU GUYS I'M SORRY WE CAN'T BE FRIENDS ANYMORE!

I won't be sorry for my lack of knowledge on Claire Danes!

@Swazzle I mean I've SEEN some of those movies yeah, but her and her name??? I just don't remember! And I loved that version of Romeo and Juliet. Seriously I am THE WORST with famous people.

ETA: But at least I've seen all the Harry Potter movies...

I am the opposite, and have the weirdest fucking memory for faces and names. I remember like the random sidekicks like Heather Mattarazzo (Anne Hathaway's best friend in Princess Diaries).
