So I have a high school friend who works at the weather service.

He just issued a "grocery store warning" for your area (which he lives). Unofficial from his profession, of course.

Now when I see FEET of snow I think this will actually happen:

We are stocked up on food since I went grocery shopping over the weekend. So I don't have to brave the crazies! I just wish the storm was arriving a day earlier than it is. I RARELY get snow days at work, so it would have been a treat to actually get one since it seems like we will have enough snow to actual give me a day off. But in the end its probably a good thing it is when it is. My great aunt passed this weekend and her funeral is in Philly on Friday morning.

I am not happy with this storm. My sis is flying in tomorrow and then we are going to see Garth Brooks in B-more Friday and staying at a hotel that night. So the city better have its butt in gear when it comes to plowing. I am also tired of having to placate my Mom because she is freaking out that 1) my sis and I are going to walk a block from our hotel to the arena and 2) that we are now going to get 1-2 feet of snow so it is guaranteed that we will most definitely die.

Sorry about your Great-Aunt Olive. I attended a funeral of a great-aunt in a mega storm back in the 80's. It was crazy.

Maggie - Mom's are funny. Hope your sister gets in okay and the concert is not cancelled as a result.

This is my biggest fear. I am thinking for Friday we should be okay but Saturday's concert is questionable. The only thing I am afraid of is that they are just going to cancel or postpone Friday and Saturday because they don't want to drive everything in on Friday and then have to try and get back out that night with the snow coming down.

I'm in North GA so we're on the tail end of this storm. The chance of actual snow and freezing rain causing problems is so so slim, but we've already had multiple counties end school early today, and I don't even know how many other counties and schools that just told students not even to come in. I guess they don't want this again...

I hope for everyone north of us who are expecting a real winter storm that you stay safe and warm, that your electricity stays on, and that you aren't snowed in for any longer then you have to be. Oh, and definitely go buy all the wine now!

I hear it's supposed to be a Saturday thing for us. As of now, DH is supposed to go out with some friends while I'm home with the kids. We have snow tires on all our cars (even the convertible) and I just hope his plans don't get cancelled.

He is NEVER one to go into a panic about snow. But for some reason I now have 3.5 loaves of bread on the counter.

DUDE. Don't bitch at me for having clogged counters when I'm going to have PB&J coming out of my ears for days!

Luckily we will use it. And having young kids, we actually use milk. I may need to look into more wine though.

I am not sure where they are coming from (off to look that up right now). The last time I remember the city really being shut down from snow was back in 2009/2010 (?) when we had two blizzards back to back and accumulated like 5-6 feet of snow in a two week period. Other then that, it is usually business as usual.

LOL! I have to laugh at this. They are coming from Florida. Nothing like coming from a place called Sunrise, FL up to the frigid, snow covered north.

His last date in FL was this past Saturday so who knows exactly where he is right now.

I just absolutely hate the snow. I ordered a pair of snow boots from amazon yesterday, so at least I'll have those on time. I think we are getting most of the snow late Friday night, into Saturday. Luckily we didn't have any major plans. One of my friends is flying out Friday night to go to Sundance, so she is freaking out a bit. This trip is her Christmas present to her FI.

This is what NC will be like. I'm just really hoping we don't get a ton of ice but I'd be okay with a few inches of snow.

I'm with you @emmaaa and @labro. I'm west of Asheville and it's been snowing on and off all day, but I hear the ice is bad at the higher elevations. Schools closed last night in my county, and I'm guessing will be tomorrow. The university I teach at rarely closes so I'm sure we'll be on tomorrow.

I'm just disappointed I'm only in the '1 bottle of wine' ring.

It's snowing here right now. Suppose to get 5-6 where we are, foot or more up on the slopes. We have the benefit of less people, who drive good cars with proper tires and of course the right snow removal equipment.

I am just glad that it's not hitting Boston hard. I have to be someehere early on Sunday, so having a lot of snow would be a nuisance. I already have to get up early, but I refuse to get up before 6 am on Sunday.

Oh I really hope your friend is wrong.

ETA: Luckily this year we haven't had any snow. We have plenty of salt and those that drive the plows aren't ridiculously exhausted from being out constantly, so hopefully clearing of streets and such won't be such of a headache as it usually is by this point of the year.

I'm getting married on Saturday and everyone's been calling, texting, emailing, sending messages about if I'm aware of the snow. Yes, I'm aware dammit. Last I checked weatherbug, it said light snow.

One of my vendors called and wanted me to pay for a hotel room for him for the whole weekend. Ummm. My coordinator, family, and other vendors (whom I all asked if this is normal) think he's nuts for asking.

Unless it was specified in the contract, I think that's outrageous. If you are a vendor and book a wedding during winter (especially in the north) you need to be prepared. Our photographer had a clause in the contract that if they had to travel for the wedding, the signee was required to pay for a room and if there was unforeseen bad weather, the signee was also required to find a place for them to stay safely.

I forgot. Hope the storm isn't as bad as they expect.

I don't find a clause that in the case of a bad weather you need to provide a hotel room. I do find odd to ask when it's not in a the contract. Is there a weather clause at all? Mine had a weather clause. In case of state of emergencies and such he could not show and there was nothing could do. I would re-read your contract just so you are mentally prepared.

Yeah I would be checking your contract to see if this is a must.

It's not in the contract, which is the weird part! So far it's still on. I've heard everything from 1-3 inches to up to over 2 feet. The weather outlets are all changing their stories every hour or so.

Hampton Roads here, they are saying "trace to 2 inches" for us

I'm so sad! My hometown is in the 12" range and my parents are in the 24" band! I love snow so I really hope we get at least 3-4 inches. It was so nice Sunday, it snowed pretty much all day and we had such a lovely day hanging out in front of the fireplace and relaxing in the quiet.

But yes... I do need to make a Costco run tomorrow prior to any weather events beginning! FH bought fresh liquor right around Christmas so the other night he said, "Hey, we've got plenty of booze to get us through!" Priorities.

H just realized we're out of coffee, which is close to as bad as being out wine wine in my book. He went out to get some while I'm snuggled up next to pup.

Our local stations are predicting Armageddon, while national forecasts have us in the 4-6" range (which for the south is a lot I'm learning).
