@beachyone15 That whole thing is seriously so cute! I want to sign up but H would probably leave me. We both started maxxing out our 401ks this year and now he's stricter than ever about how we spend...at least until I get my car paid off.

@TwoDimes That's what I'm hoping, but we recently sat down and started making a savings plan for a house and paying off my loans. He's been extra tight with money ever since. Ideally we'd use the money for the European vacation we've been talking about for the past 5 years, but I guess I could settle for a quick trip elsewhere.

@jenna8984 Oh I doubt it will be anywhere near enough to pay off my student loans. But maybe he'll go halfsies on the windfall with me-- half for loans and half for a vacation. He's been really miserly lately with money after we sat down and made a savings plan, so we'll see. I don't fault him for it though because I know he's got good intentions-- he just wants us to be financially secure long-term.

@eilis1228 - I'm sorry you are your H were bickering...we all have days like that. Hopefully today is better. Also, an inheritance (no matter how small) is always a good thing (well, apart from the death that led up to it obviously). Maybe put the bulk of it towards student loans but use a little for fun?

@swazzle - I LOVE Cats. I had that soundtrack memorized as a kid.

@minskat30 LOL I know what you mean about inheritance being one of the few upsides to death. The only reason I'm a beneficiary is because my father passed away. The will states that the estate will be divided among my grandparents' 4 children, but if any of those children are deceased, then their children will receive their inheritance. My father's siblings are still alive, so none of my cousins will be receiving anything, just me and my brothers... so as awful as it sounds, my father's death benefited me.

@GoldenPenguin Being an adult is no fun. That's pretty much exactly what happened to me after we had that conversation. We had two tentative vacations planned with my family this year, and he's mentioned possibly pulling out of those even though most of our costs would be covered. Waaaaaah! Adulting sucks. Hopefully your budget talk goes better than ours did!

I replied to people and then realized I didn't say squat about my evening. Whoops.

When I got home from work last night my house had a wonderful food aroma that I could smell in my garage. The crock pot pulled pork turned out great, and I already have ideas on how to improve the recipe. I also made baked beans and a sweet potato casserole with praline topping/mixed in. The sweet potato casserole is GIANT, like, enough for a whole crew of people, but I will eat it all because it seriously tastes like dessert. Nommmm.

Watched Making a Murder through episode 9. One episode left and I think it's just a followup episode. I hope this isn't spoilery, but, I hate that it was so biased. It would have been way more interesting if they had presented both sides equally and presented key facts of all of the evidence rather than long drawn out segments about bits and pieces. It was completely one-sided and that pissed me off. I enjoy law, and I would like for my opinions to be challenged rather than handed to me. The creators of the show clearly had one opinion throughout the whole series and presented it that way. I feel like they were purposely trying to play with my emotions and that aggravated me so much that it was hard for me to continue to watch it. I legit rolled my eyes so hard at some things that were said, and I totally could pick out where one side or the other was grasping at straws to make an argument (and then one lawyer has an interview and angerly claims the other lawyer is trying to "make evidence support his case" I mean, duh, isn't that how it's done?) I'm curious what other legal minds think of it, since my legal training is more on the expert witness side.

I started to have a night terror last night that someone broke into my house and was trying to get into my bedroom, dreamed I could see their shadow in the hallway. Thankfully I was able to tell my brain "THIS ISN'T REAL!!!" and snap out of it. I once had a dream like that in my apartment and legit woke up screaming and punching at the air because I thought someone was in my room, and promptly turned my light on to check around the bed because I thought they were hiding. Had to sleep with the light on the rest of that night, so I am glad I was able to stop my brain from going there last night. Maybe I shouldn't watch crime shows before bed.

I can't wait for lunch time because I'm going to go home and reheat some of last night's dinner. Living 8 minutes from work ROCKS!

I'm also in the camp of "it's going to snow 6 inches to 2 feet." I just hope it holds off until after work on Friday.

re: Cats - I use to own the VHS of that version and have been trying to hunt down a dvd copy!! Angel and a former cat both looked like the Magical Mr. Mistoffelees and my cousin's cat is actually named after that cat {we are a heavy Broadway family lmao} I couldn't choose a fave song in that whole play if I tried. "Memory" is still timeless!!

Not much last night. Had a bank appt and that turned out WONDERFUL!
Matt and I have separate accounts for everything at different institutions. We both have a joint account at each place also. Main reason is because we've both been with each place for a long time and neither of us want to switch because we'd have to close a bunch of accounts ...
ANYWAYS, so we went to Matt's bank and they have a certain special that you're only required to do 5% down payment for a house, and basically by end of 2016 we'll have almost 15% so the mortgage specialist advised maybe only doing 10% and that way we have extra savings for lawyer fees etc. Which means we'll be able to start looking far sooner than we thought!

Also the mortgage specialist advised that we could use the extra savings towards the principal as a lump sum, which would benefit us as well.

We talked about it and basically we're going to look at putting as much towards mortgage as possible in the beginning so that way if we have a kid and I'm on mat leave for the year with lowered income, we've already put a good chunk towards it.

This is literally so exciting!

Today isn't as special, just groceries and banking night.
Tomorrow is baking for Saturday's spring/summer catalogue of steeped tea I sell. I'm making lemon dill scones, which I'm vastly hoping they're more lemon-y than anything.

@eilis1228 yea I know what you mean. I got a settlement for an accident I was in and before it came I was thinking of all the things to spend it on. Then once it came I was like nope can't do it. Took a tiny bit for my wedding and put the rest in savings. Having that peace of mind is so much better.

@misskittydanger woohoo! house hunting is a pain in the ass but it's still exciting!

@jenna8984 I wish financial peace of mind wasn't so boring lol. I keep telling H that we need to have some fun with our money since we can't take it with us when we die, but he points out that having a savings plan and paying off loans will lead to a nice life down the road.

@wink0erin - I haven't seen Making a Murder. I'll be honest that I hate most legal shows because I'm a lawyer and get to witness the fun on a daily basis at work. All legal shows I've seen have been dramatized (a lot) and are biased. I'm sorry for your night terror. I haven't had one in a while and I hope they stay far far away.

@swazzle - I want to come to a Cats show GTG! I don't think traveling to a Broadway show with a newborn baby this summer is a good idea though.

I wish I had a work conference on the East coast sometime soon...maybe once I return from maternity leave I can swing one.

@MissKittyDanger - good for you guys! Putting more money down and minimizing debt is always a good thing.

Hi everyone on mobile, but I read everything. I had my IUD insertion this morning, did not go well. I ended up calling out of work and have spent most of my morning taking a hot shower and sleeping.

Re Cats: I was a spoiled kid and saw Cats when I was 3, loved it so much my grandma bought it for me on vhs. I would walk around the house in my great grandmothers fur coat and sing memories. I am so in for a group outing

@swazzle – I’m thinking Cats was maybe my first broadway show too! Although of course it was on tour in Spokane, WA and not on “The Broadway”, but it was amazing! I also had the VHS recording and watched it a ton as a kid.

@beachyone15 – It’s my own dog and even I can’t help but laugh every single freaking time. I was pretty proud of how awesome that particular post worked out, haha! Your calender is so cute! What do they send you in the kit? Was it stickers or stamps?

@peaseblossom55 – I would fly over in a heartbeat! BUT, we have to also go to Hamilton. Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats is my JAM! And the song about Mr. Mistoffelees (yes, I looked up how to spell that).

@wink0erin – I think the point of the documentary wasn’t the case itself, but how the justice system works against the lower class. The filmmakers were just on the daily show, and it was a pretty good interview if you wanted to look it up. I have no opinions on innocent/guilty, but I am just awe struck at some of the things that happened during the trial (and before, I suppose, during evidence and statement collection).

I had a very similar night to @swazzle! I got home and watched PLL while my BF worked out. We went out to Mexican food afterward, and I managed to only eat until I was full, which is a miracle. Then we picked up some "Hard Orange Cream Soda" and a cigar and shared it, because he hit his 3 month mark of not smoking cigarettes, so we make great choices, obviously.

Today I am dragging, and I blame that goddamned cigar. I was almost an hour later to work than normal. But I'm wearing my new green SF shirt and feel adorable. New clothes do that.

But seriously, I would gladly meet any of you in New York for Cats. I just hope you would also be interested in going to another show or two as well! If I'm going to NYC, I'm going to as many shows as possible. I'm actually really looking forward to a new one coming out called Disaster! It has Adam Pascal from Rent, Roger Bart, and Seth Rudetsky.

@MissKittyDanger Becoming "house poor" was my biggest fear when buying a house. I'm spending more than I was paying in rent, but I'm in a MUCH better area. I was living very comfortably in the apartment too, and it's not a big increase going from apt to house in my monthly payments (mortgage is less, but insurance/taxes bring it above what my rent was). I'll find out utility use difference soon enough. I had electric in my apartment and my house is gas, so I have no idea what to expect with those bills yet. Yay adulting.

Negative. Only one I've seen recently is How to Get Away With Murder. I like that one because... Viola Davis. Rob Lowe can be hit or miss with me but it might be worth checking out.

@AlPacina - It's cut-out paper pieces that you just pop out, a stamp, mini ink pad, and glue dots to put everything together. Basically everything you need.
Also, I would LOVE to go to a show in NY. The only one I've ever seen there was Aida (which was awesome, but then again I'm a huge fan of Elton and anything he does).

I am seeing fucking red right now. (I am also cursing like a sailor today too) My boss sucks so much and is so inappropriate it's not even funny. We have an auditor in right now and My boss M says to auditor B "You look like you need to go on a vacation." B explains that he and his wife were going to Mexico but she is expecting and they were advised not to because of Zika. B then goes on to say "Well congrats on the baby, you know I did notice that you are getting bigger and I have to say, your wife is going to lose the weight after the baby, but your not, so you shouldn't be eating for two."

I. Can't. Fucking. Even.

He is SO inappropriate and we are a school, so we don't have HR that I can go to about it. This isn't the first time he has made comments like this (he especially pissed me off with gay comments over the summer.) I'm at a loss and I'm really hoping that on March 1st when the new Superintendent starts, that this fucker will be fired so fast.

Sorry to just lay that all out but I am ANGRY!

@eilis1228 I live every day with "save now for money later". It IS true but goddamnit it's tough! Props to you guys for making the effort to save more and being responsible with windfalls. But don't forget to have a little fun with part of it too!

@wink0erin Gas is so so cheap right now so we're actually doing better cost wise on some utilities. Electricity was about the same as our apartment at first but it got WAY cheaper when we replaced our HVAC. The cost of the HVAC will pay for itself quickly with how much our electrical costs have gone down.
