Irrational Annoyances

Re: Irrational Annoyances

  • Grocery carts left willy nilly in the parking lot bug me too. Particularly when you are about to turn into a space and there's a cart sitting in it!

My IA: too many people at the grocery store! I know- everyone has a right to go shopping when they please, and maybe I shouldn't show up at 2pm on a Saturday ;) but ack! too many people, too little space, and then you have those people who stop their cart in the middle of the aisle humming and hawing at items on the shelf while there are two lanes of people trying to pass. If you're going to go at 2pm on a Saturday, know what you want, and conquer! :P

I'm also super picky about where items go in my house. I refer to items as having a "home". This is what makes things easy to find, and keeps things orderly (and I'm a bit of a control freak). DH could care less, but I'm always on him about putting things back "where they live". At the same time, DH is the one who leaves the house without his phone or his wallet because he never leaves them in one set place. Or, he'll leave his phone down on the desk in his office when uses it as his alarm clock and then has to run downstairs in the morning to turn it off.

I get irritated with people who have road rage. If someone honks at me for no reason  I get very annoyed.  I want to yell at them to chill out and I seriously  have to hold my breath and count to 10.  So ironic I get uptight  and froggy about people being uptight.
You mean you THINK there's no reason. ;) Just kidding...I'm sure I'm one of those people you hate. I don't honk often...but when I do you probably deserved it in my mind.

My IA is the people driving at or under the speed limit, or the people who slow down really early for red lights. I know we'll all get there at about the same time...I just want to speeeeeeeeeeed.
I'm one of the people you hate in the morning.  Sorry job#1 is an overnight job and sometimes I'm so tired I need to slow it down. FWIW, I know it's annoying, but less annoying then my crashing and backing up traffic.

My IA job#2 I cut hair,  don't touch me or my client while I'm cutting them. Especially if you are a co-worker...you know where I'm standing...take a step that way and stop bumping me!!!

    I'm cranky today.
People do this?!?  That is not irrational, that could seriously mess up the hair cut

    Waaaaay to often.

  • When we are watching tv, during ads my H turns the volume down to 0 so we can talk. Why not just push Mute???  I know this is irrational.

People who leave their grocery carts where ever when they are finished loading their car.  The collections racks are only a few steps away.

CONFESSION: Sometimes I have my baby in the car and I don't want to leave her in the car  by herself  to put the cart away.

It's a  hassle to put her in the car then unload the groceries then put her in the cart again to put it away, and then put her back in the car.

I always try to get the closest spot to the  collection racks so I can see her as I run to put it away but sometimes I can't.
How long does it take to return the cart if she's buckled in?  I lock the kids in and return the cart.   It's about 20 seconds and no cart is left occupying a space or is ready to play 'Dent A Minivan."  I'm all about safety but where do you shop that this takes so long?
I never timed it. But usually the  collection racks are about 5 parking spots away ( right next to us on a good day). When I go to the cheap  grocery store there are no collection racks in our aisle usually .  I should point out that my baby is not a baby.  I just call my youngest that all the time.  She is 7 years old with an intellectual disability.  Yes I still put her in the cart because it's too hard to push a wheelchair  and a cart at the same time. It's not ideal. I prefer  F.I. does the shopping  or goes with us. However life happens and  it doesn't always work out that way.

I would like to point out  I never leave a cart  in the parking lot without being up on a curb or divider. No roll away carts.

I shop at  grocery stores in my neighborhood.   I live in an urban city in southern California.  The parking lot maybe very different then let's say, a Walmart in  Ohio.

OK - cutting you some slack.  ;-)

I'm used to shopping in my own town where there are cart returns all over the parking lot along with snow piles and idiots.   DH usually does the parking but when I'm with the kids, I still buckle them into their seats and then return the cart.   I am tired of seeing people do the cart half up on a curb that's two spaces down from the cart return or leaving a cart in a parking space.

It's my 'you're not a special snowflake' approach to shopping.

My work annoyance (among others) is people who leave the microwave saying 5 seconds left or 13 seconds or whatever.  Hit cancel, it isn't that hard. In part I like it to be clear because then you see the clock but really it just drives me crazy for no reason.
This, and when people heat up their food and then walk out. And then leave their cooked food in the microwave for some period of time after it's done cooking. It make me want to take their food out and throw it away. If you are microwaving something for two minutes, COME BACK WITHIN TWO MINUTES.

Also, an alarming number of people at my work talk on their cell phones while in a toilet stall, presumably while sitting on the toilet. I don't even bring my phone in to the bathroom at work, let alone make a call while in there. Gross.

Another IA I have to go with all of the work bitching in WW is when coworkers leave a voicemail to say "Hi it's Name, call me back."

I have caller ID.  I know you called.  Protocol is to call you back.  Leave me a message with what you want or don't leave a message at all.

I hate that with any VM (and really I hate all vm) - if you are leaving a message tell me why I should call you back. don't just say 'call me'
Also, this. And really, if you're calling my cell phone, don't bother leaving a message, because I will not listen to it.
