Do you want me to talk about how many times a night DS woke up on our vacation or how there's a hand foot and mouth outbreak going through the daycare?

Or maybe we can talk about side effects of pregnancy and delivery like tearing and hemorrhoids.
Omg I just had hand foot and mouth. So awful.
I'm hoping that DS does not get it.   I'm still nursing and hoping that what minimal milk he gets has some antibodies....because he will be awful with it.   And that's days he can't go to daycare.
  • I don't understand why you don't just tell her she can't bring her baby.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • OP, I'm pretty sure the only person shaming you here is you.  You got excellent advice, now grow up and taking it without whining and stamping your feet.

Oh oh! I have a good one! After 41 weeks & 5 days of pregnancy, 28 weeks of morning sickness, a 36 hour induction, 6 hours of back labor that the epidural didn't touch and an emergency c-section anyway... when they tried to get me out of the bed to use the bathroom later in the day, we discovered that my right leg would crumple under me. Nerve damage!
I got to use a bedpan in the hospital. And they started setting the bed alarm because the one time I snuck out of bed to use the bathroom myself I fell.
It had me using a walker for 6 weeks and a cane for another 6. And stairs for the first 6 weeks were a no-go... as shower, bedroom and nursery were upstairs it meant bathing in a sink. And sleeping on a couch. And baby living in her pack & play.

    See. Babies bad!

    Totally bad. Yucko!
I appreciate your attempt to help curb the fever, but that picture is doing nothing for my need for a mini-me+husband. Ugh we'd make such a cute baby. Just gotta keep saying "tearing and bleeding and pooping and vomit and screaming" but that smile! Such a cutie.

Because it goes against her vision.  Duh.
  • Holy shit @aurianna
I'm so sorry that happened to you. It also freaks me out... I live in a 4th floor walkup. What would happen to me, my husband carrying me up and down four flights of stairs? For six weeks? Holy cabin fever if I never went anywhere.
    Your baby is adorable!

You find a way to make it work. Mom would pick me up once a week and I'd shower at her place (though even getting on and off the shower seat was scary!). The first 8 weeks physical therapy came to me.
    I'm sure you'd find a way.

Luckily it's like a 1 in 100,000 injury so... not likely.
    Auri's tips:
if you're pushing for 2 hours, make sure they relax your legs between pushes.
if at your 36w ultrasound, baby is already tracking 7lbs with head in 93%ile, at least inquire about options of early induction / c-section. And if you find out your induction isn't scheduled until 41w3d raise hell.

But if I had to go through it all again (and then some) to have her, I would totally.

But it's ok to wait a bit, @InLoveInQueens. I love her a bunch, but your life as you know it changes completely. They're way more expensive than you ever imagined. Way more wear on your body and nerves than you imagined. And your schedule is no longer your own; you are a slave to your baby's schedule and needs. It's ok to enjoy some "carefree" single time with hubby for a while. :)

  • @aurianna mine was measuring 3 weeks ahead the whole time. He was measuring so big they thought for sure I had GD. They estimated his weight at 6lbs 9oz 6 weeks before he was due and his head was measuring in the 97th percentile. I scheduled the induction for as soon as they'd allow. He was one week early and weighed 8lbs 15oz.

My husband held the record for biggest baby born at the hospital he was born at for a good long while, something I love to bring up whenever we talk about babies at work but then I remember "crap, that means most likely we'll have a giant freaking baby and I'm the one that's gotta push that sucker out of me".
  • We had two guests at our wedding with babies under 6 months. One does have a reputation of being a rather fussy baby, but she was fantastic and I was so happy to get to meet her. Her eyes got SO big and she was giggling and laughing at the sparkles on my dress, she was a doll!

It was actually the 3 year old of another friend who was more poorly behaved, and that was really because neither of the parents were really managing him that well, IMHO. While BM and FBIL were giving toasts beside the sweetheart table, the kid ran right up to the stage where we were all at and was checking out the speakers, which were up on stands (and my brother explained could have easily been toppled over). He then ran over to the cake table where we had the uncut cake and a several lit candles on a table cloth that he was touching. The mother was standing nearby and rather awkwardly following but not coming in to scoop up her child and redirect his wanderings. Thankfully the little guy ended up moving on to the back of the room after that, but during both DH and I definitely had a WTF look on our faces, I think. Super cute kid, but c'mon, parents!

Moral of the story -- little babies are probably fine at a wedding and if anything a bonus for cute photos.

Yeah, that's how I am feeling too... My H was 10.5lbs, and, like 23 inches long when he was born. I was 8.5lbs, so not really a small baby either. H is 6'4" now, so I definitely worry about having a giant baby.

    I was just 6lbs 7oz and 19"
Addie was was still 8lb 11oz and 21.5"

    My head was "normal" size.
    Addie's was 97%ile at birth

Mom had contractions she was able to sleep through overnight. And then just three hours of labor once she went to the hospital in the morning and got an epidural.
I was only 1cm dilated 12 hours post-induction despite contractions 2 minutes apart (or less) that left me clinging to the bed rails, shaking in pain.

Mom had me after 10 minutes of pushing.
After 2 hours of pushing they decided Addie was stuck and asked me "forceps or c-section?"

Don't worry too much about what the ancestors had. There may be some correlation but definitely not enough to worry about.
Also, in most cases, the body is amazing, and tends to only bake a baby the size it can handle. There are freak cases, but we're not the norm.

It's all right!  I was 7.11 lbs. and long (though I don't remember how many inches).  The doctors joked with my mom that I would be tall.

At this point, let me reference you to my username on this site.

    I am a towering 5' even ;).

  • I was 9lbs 8oz and 22" long at birth. I am now 63" tall. I was a third of my height at birth.
  • I'd better not show FW these pictures. She's gung ho about adopting in the not-too-distant future. I definitely want to adopt, but I want to get us on better financial and health footing first.

I was a 12lb baby 3 weeks late. My son was measuring 6lbs at his 36 week ultrasound. They estimated that if I made it to 40 weeks that he'd be 10lbs+. I wasn't allowed to have an epidural or any pain meds after the birth. My son came  early and he was just over 7lbs, I had a 3rd degree tear. Children are a joy.

I'm surprised that even though they let it go that long. Maybe induction wasn't a thing when you were born. But seriously at that point you run a large risk of low fluid levels and meconium getting into baby's lungs. As it was with me not even 2 weeks later the nurse that broke my water commented about how surprised she was that it was still clear.

    Glad you turned out good!

That's awful! H really caused his mom damage when he was born... To the point that there was a lawsuit brought (and won) against the doctor and hospital. H broke his clavicle on his way out in addition to his mom's injuries (which required a number of surgeries). They should have taken her in for a c-section but didn't.

I have a pre-existing condition that does not allow for an epidural and because the pain meds had advil in them, same thing. I have a crazy high pain threshold, which was tested during labour.

I was 7lbs even. My husband was just around 14lbs...
  • Sigh, all of the baby photos made me want a baby yesterday and now all of the discussion about huge babies makes me completely freaked out.

I I want a baby so badly but the whole pregnancy thing freaks the crap out of me.

My BIL has a similar problem... He can't take any NSAIDs, acetaminophen, or aspirin. I never knew this was a thing until him. What do you generally do for pain management?

Narcotics, t3s or ride out the pain. It's only NSAIDS and ASA I can't have because they are blood thinners.
  • @TrixieJess I really feel for you! I was induced with my last and those pitocin contractions are serious! I tried going without, but I (literally) cried uncle and got an epidural. It was glorious.

I had pitocin too because my water broke and my contractions stopped. As a high risk patient, when my contractions didn't start back up, they started them for me. Yeah, it wasn't fun.
