Wedding Woes

Tuesday

Hola, WW! What's up?

Still waiting for my new work laptop to arrive. No one seems to have much sense of urgency, which is kind of driving me nuts. My boss is in Vancouver, so it's not like I can bitch to him and then sic him on IT. Sigh.

Painted Wooz's room, and it is beautiful. On the 5 minute drive to Lowe's, she changed her mind and decided she wanted lilac for her room and sea air or whatever for the closet. Turned out well. I took my rings off to paint and still haven't remembered to put them back on. People are going to start talking. ;)

Yesterday was so much smoother at swim than last week. Also, Wooz is killing me because she looks and acts like a tween now, and I want to squish her down a little bit longer.

Invitations are out for DS's birthday party. We leave for my grandma's 100th a week from Thursday.

Re: Tuesday

  • I assume no laptop means you get to spend the day on TK, right @Heffalump? Seems like your computer problems have been going on for weeks now.

Not much new around here. Steelers won last night so H was super excited. I have a half marathon coming up on Saturday so I'm trying to get prepared for that.

Also, I'm starving already and it's not even 9am. I had breakfast and all I want to do is eat the cold, homemade pizza I brought for lunch. But if I do that I'll be hungry, with noting to eat later on. Tough choices.

I've kind of been limping along for a week and a half, which had been giving me less time to Knot because I couldn't get to the boards from my laptop, and everything was taking me forever. Now it's been sitting on the boot screen for over an hour, and if this keeps up I may have to hunt down someone in IT to see if I can get a loaner or something. Or just go home. ;)
  • I'm struggling today.  I have the huge uncontrollable yawns that make the eyes water.  It's pretty un-awesome.  At least it's a short week for me.

DH was in a pissy mood when we got home last night, because we went to the bank to add his name to my accounts, and the bank couldn't do it, because my parents are still "account holders" from when they set it up for me when I was 12.  And they "have to physically be in the branch store" with us for us to be able to add H to the accounts or remove my parents from them.

So he went into his annoying hermitude and, whether he knows it or not, his attitude wears on me.  He's sullen, and it rolls off of him in waves.  It bugs me because I feel like I should be bringing him up and instead I feel like he wants to tell me to "fuck off" but doesn't because I'm not really the reason he's upset, but I'm definitely not helping, and that makes ME pissy.  So I went for a run, took a long shower, and then went to bed after dinner to give him his space.  There are days I feel more like I have a roommate than a spouse.

And then Toothless was restless, so his nails clack-clacked circles on the hardwood floor around the bed all night and I wanted to stab someone when I woke up.

Mood has not improved much, but at least I'm less stabby.

I feel you on this one. H does this too and it really makes me angry/sad. He'll get all quite and moody and short with me if I ask him something, and it really brings me down. We talk about it all the time. His response is usually, "well just tell me that I'm being an asshole and I'll stop doing it", and I repeatedly tell him that my way of dealing with a problem, when he's taking his bad mood out on me, is not to call him names. Not to mention when I do tell him he's being an asshole he gets more annoyed. No advice here, but commiseration. It sucks.
  • Yesterday was looooooong. I decided to sleep in and skip a workout. I woke up at 6:15. I had to wake max up at 8.

Right now I'm at the zoo sitting Ina rocking chair while m2 rides the carousel. The boys are at school!  Life is good.
  • Boo technology.  YAY painting.

I had an amusing conversation with DefConn about why we wear underwear last night.  He also showed me that DH taught him how to use the flap on his underwear by basically flashing me.  He also told me that people think he's 'really bossy' because he tells them to sit down on the bus and they tell him he's 'not the bus driver.'  Yeesh.

We're group texting with our friends regarding our Hawaii plans.  I'm getting excited, but now I'm starting to have nerves set in.

I have to work in the office tomorrow and Thursday.  Ugh.

I am getting my final documentation for our land valuation appeal together.  I have been looking for three good comparable properties and I found them within a mile or two of my house and they are all under sale contract.  Woohoo.

IDK why I believed that guy who called to initiate our refi that we'd have it closed in 30 days.   They are always wrong about the timeline.   I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not counting on it closing before we leave.
  • Oh, and DS was up at 4:40 this morning. I told him to go back to sleep, and he replied "I'm not tired!" I got him to read quietly for a while, but I never did get back to sleep.

    Finally got SAP running. Win?
  • Today, god dammit, I am ordering a table for the kitchen. Not *the table* of my dreams, but a table that will suffice. This table deal has encompassed my life for too long.

H ate his first burrito at the age of 30 a few weeks ago. Now he's asking me to make him burritos again. I feel like I won and I wanna be all "neener neener neener I told you so".

    Do it!
  • Morning! Busy morning in the office today. Actually, general busy day but morning seemed to be extra busy.

Not much last night. H plays "Farm Simulator" and ended up playing most of the evening, while I puttered around doing things and half chatting with him.

As some of you saw yesterday, we're doing the 'final walk through' next week on our house. We're stoked because we didn't think we'd be able to see it again until we got our keys :) Which is good, because I need to double check a few stupid things that I forgot to last time. Rod in shower and rod in master closet - which sounds dumb but when we first saw it there was renos being done so they had taken them down.

    Also we're getting new glasses after we move, so the ones we have back we may give back to MIL. I just need H to ask her, so we can wrap/pack them. {fyi we're not wrapping/packing dishes otherwise because we can just carry them to new place during the week}

This morning was dumb. I've slept past my alarm past 2 days, and I really wanted to get up on time to do stuff. At my bus stop this morning there was a guy who could pass as my ex's brother. Actually I thought it was him at first lol!

    I was late this morning also - not long, like 10mins - and realized I should just take an earlier bus, but I brought in "smile cookies" {Tim Horton's does them every so often and the money goes to charity - right now it's for the Snowsuit Fund}

Not much tonight. Scrubbing the carpets again, and I think that should be the last time. I may get H to scrub the bathroom - toilet and sink.
  • I'm hating life right now and it's mostly FWP stuff.

The landlords are selling the place.   Realtor comes at 3pm today.   Yesterday 2 housekeepers were scheduled to come to deep clean the place.    They no-showed.   I spent all day cleaning (walls, baseboards, moving furniture, etc.).

While in the garage I see a huge pile of water on the floor.  Looked up, water coming from the kitchen sink area.   Apparently there has been a leak for a while because the cabinet bottom was in bad shape.   (should be noted the dishwasher had a huge leak 2 years ago and already damaged the cabinet bottom.)     I don't go under the sink often so I never noticed.   I'm not in the garage often either.  It's so dry here that it could have leaked and dried up before we noticed.

Figured out the leak was from the 15 year old faucet.   Our lease requires us to pay for repairs.  So off to the store to by a new faucet and plywood for the cabinet (I don't think we are required to repair the cabinet, but we were able to use free scraps, so no big deal.)

9:30, most of the cleaning has been done.  DH is going to steam clean the carpets backing himself up to the stairs.  Then we were going to sleep.    Wouldn't you know it?   The steam cleaner stopped working.

    GRRRRRR

10pm at night off to the store to rent a Rug Doctor.

I still have a few odds and ends to finish up before they arrive at 3pm, but man.  This process has sucked big time.

** we are breaking our lease because of the place going up for sale.  It's VERY hard to find a place to live here that allows 2 dogs.  Especially in our price range.    Winter is a horrible time of year to look for a place and move too.  The place across the street came available and jumped on it.    There would be 3 months left on our lease.   We are trying to help out the landlord all we can to sell this place quickly.     I.e.  deep cleaning, de-cluttering, etc.

Sadly the landlord has an unrealistic price range so I doubt it would be sold quickly.  She is comparing updated units to her hasn't don't shit in 15 years unit.   I'm hoping the realtor slaps her across the face and brings her back to reality.

I remember that post on Chit Chat.  It turned into a really good one as everyone started telling stories of "normal" foods either they or their H had never tried/tried late in life.

Yesterday was crazy, crazy slow and boring at work.  Today is shaping up to be better.  My H and I tried a new fast food restaurant last night.  Halal Guys.  Apparently they are big in NYC and have just recently branched out to Houston, NOLA, and (I think) Miami.  Not sure what the hullabaloo is all about.  It was okay, nothing special.  Not enough flavor for either the meats or their "famous" white sauce.  NOLA is HARDLY known for its Middle Eastern food, that's an understatement LMAO, but there are much better places even here.  I expected better from a NYC born restaurant child.

I had a funny "kids say the darnedest things" moment on Saturday.  Not having any kids myself, I rarely have those moments.  My H and I went over to one of my rental properties to add an extra vent for the HVAC in the living room.  This involved cutting a large rectangular hole just a few inches above the floor.  Their 6-year-old son got excited and said, "Is that going to be a secret door for a dog?"  So cute!  Sorry, little guy.

  • @lyndausvi  jeez what a nightmare of an evening :( Hopefully all goes well now and landlord realizes prices are too high!!
  • I love only working half days, getting laid off from my job has been a joy. Granted I am making practically zero dollars at the barn but I like the work and Half Days!

I have pretty run out of all the lounging around the house I want to do too, so maybe the house will get cleaned, lol.

FH is going through hell trying to get all of the paperwork he needs for his visa and he is working nights this week. I don't think he realizes that he and I may spend a month or two apart after we get married and he moves. I have to wait for the marriage certificate and name change documents go through before I get my visa. Honestly, I am looking forward to it. Spend a good solid time back home, or traveling, before leaving it all behind. I know I will need some quiet, alone, introspective time because I will be a crazy mess.
  • @tawillers  hopefully you have one near you, but have you checked ikea for options?

Landlady (LL) here (raises hand).  Looking for some clarification.  Is your landlord trying to imply that you are responsible for paying the rent through the end of the lease, or until they sell the house?  Because, if they are that is BULL S**T!!!!  And you need to fight them on it.

Although laws are different throughout the U.S., this is pretty much unilaterally how it works when a tenant breaks a lease:

--Tenant is responsible for continuing to pay the rent until their lease expires or a new tenant moves in.

However, a LL has a duty to mitigate their damages.  They can't just sit on their laurels and "not" look for a new tenant while their old tenant is still under a lease and paying the rent.  In your case, your LL has chosen to sell the property.  As such, they are NOT looking for another tenant.

If this is the story, I'd negotiate with the LL to only pay one extra month's rent after the move out, since they will no longer be renting it anyway.  If they think that is fair and agree, you're golden.  And get it in writing.  If not, I wouldn't even pay that and then they can take me to small claims court.  Where I would bet dollars to doughnuts they would only be awarded one extra month's rent anyway (assuming no damages).

**If your lease includes a "break lease" fee, you'd be responsible for that also.

  • @tawillers  hopefully you have one near you, but have you checked ikea for options?
Unfortunately we are not near one (approx 2.5 hours), but we have been discussing making a trip there because there are other pieces we are looking for in other rooms of the house. I love ikea and we always stop there when we head to Chicago.
  • @tawillers  same, hence my suggestion ;) maybe check online because I know some places deliver also - and to see if they even have what you're thinking of. 2.5 hrs is far for ikea!!

    Oh, it's getting better.  /sarcasm

Put in my last piece of laundry.   A bathmat and 2 wash clothes.

THE FUCKING WASHER FLOODED!!  First time ever.

The laundry is on the 3rd floor.  Water every where.   Thank god we had the rug doctor to [mostly] suck it up out of the carpet.    The laundry room is above the front door, so the water just fell there and not else where in the house.

I'm pretty much done.  I just have wipe down the kitchen again. Gotta to love a slobbering bulldog.   I will do that at the last minute.

I swear I'm living in the twilight zone.

We are lucky DH was upstairs when it happened.  I was on the first floor in my office.   Who knows how long it would have been before we noticed?

  • Wow, Lynda. Get a drink and GTFO of there!

Scrubbing dog drool off the walls/doors/cabinets/fucking everything is part of my weekly cleaning routine. We gotta get a higher quality paint.

  • @ShesSoCold  paint quality helps everything! Remember other day I mentioned we scrubbed the bathroom ceiling? Well ... the mold marks have returned. I'm pretty sure they're embedded into the ceiling because our landlord or the building owner are the cheapest people ever

I recommend the Behr Marquee; it's expensive (although Home Depot does $10 off a gallon sale pretty frequently), but it's worth it. I can wash the walls and the paint has stayed nice. Also, it covered some crazy stains that I just couldn't get off from the previous owners.
  • So it's 7:45 and between a hellish day at work and slow internet connection I'm finally on TK!

After being yelled at by two customers yesterday, I received a scathing email today.  The email today was deserved,  it's not my personal fault, but I'm the account manager so the buck stops with me.  But I almost never have angry customers so to have three, even when two are unreasonable, is just mind boggling.

I'm about to get back to work, but FI and I decided screw it and ordered pizza.  I ate it with ranch.  It was hella delightful.
