And here it is Wednesday already

Yay?

I am taking DS to the pedi in a little while.  In the meantime, I am catching up on Two Monks Inventing Things that I missed along the way.

MONK #1: where does the violin go
MONK #2: mm?
MONK #1: when two knights battle one another, where do you put the violin
MONK #2: over whoever is getting stabbed the most
MONK #1: really

  • @Heffalump  I have never heard of that but sounds hilarious! Is it on netflix or is it a show?

Not much last night. H was at a hockey game with his buddy. I didn't do much, watched t.v and sang along with my laptop. Might as well take advantage of the echo and being alone! I did some songs I haven't sung in awhile.

Ended up talking to my mum for about an hour, then watched "This Is Us" - by the time it was over, H was home and I just crashed.

Tonight H is likely working late. I'm dragging the recycling out for pick up tomorrow. Black box week so ALL THE PAPERS AND CARD BOARD GO!!! YASSSS!!!

Downside is that some stuff is super heavy :( So there might be literal dragging.
  • I had a crock pot meal for dinner last night, but it still seemed like we ate dinner super late.  It also turned out pretty good, so a pat on the back for me!

I got a pair of shoes in the mail, but they were too tight :(  I run between a 10 and 11, they had no 11s, so I got the 10 and they were tight.  I know I would stretch them out a bit, but knowing my feet will start swelling at some point - I figured they wouldn't work for me then.  Back they will go, which I had a $15 coupon code from Zappos for them - I'm hoping they will give it back to me to try again with.  I love Zappos and they have good customer service, so I'm hoping I get it back!

I fell asleep great last night, but after my nightly trip to the bathroom around 1:30, I never really fell back to sleep.  So I feel like I'm dragging a bit.  I hope for better sleep for me this evening.

Yoga after work, dinner, and then to bed is probably in my future tonight!

  • Morning, y'all.

@MissKittyDanger I am so glad to know that somebody else watches This Is Us. I really like it. I missed last night's episode but I plan on catching up tonight.

Last night we went up to DH's godbrother's house and had dinner with him and his fiancé. We had a blast and had some delicious food. Then we rented The Conjuring 2, which was a total letdown in my opinion. It was nowhere near as good as the first one. The first one was so scary yet interesting at the same time, but the 2nd was predictable and pretty cheesy in some parts. We ended up staying a little later than we planned so I'm pretty tired today.

Tonight DH has a flight and I'm supposed to go to something at church. We'll see if that happens though. Right now I'm too tired to even think about that.

  • @thefanciestbeckler  there was a chat going on in 'chit chat' but people dropped that :( I'm kind of obsessed and I love the twists on the endings in previous eps :)
  • I'm watching This Is Us too!  I have last night's episode to watch.  ;)
  • So, I decided to do all of the fun shopping yesterday.  I wanted a pot rack holder that fit against a wall, rather than hanging.  You would've thought it was a unicorn.  I looked at Lowe's, Home Depot, Target, Walmart, a local kitchen supply store, and someplace else I'm forgetting.  I finally just ordered two off of Amazon.  I'm basically reading Apartment Therapy every day, to learn how to use this space more efficiently.  When it was just my stuff, it really didn't matter.  With K's stuff coming in, things are getting crowded.

So, it's grocery shopping today, then I need to run by the recorder's office, and then one appointment this afternoon, and maybe looking at a storage unit.
  • Another This Is Us fan, but I didn't watch it last night either.

@mrsconn23 Yes!  We need more reviews!  I'm enjoying reading them and pretending I'm hiking and eating instead of working and stressing.

I have a work vent today....I'm currently in a brutal bid battle with my largest account.  Not only is it my largest, it's my favorite - I really enjoy working with the people there.  The Plant Manager is on my side, but we have to win over financing and as a result of quality, we're the most expensive, but money people never care about that.

Well, I just found out that when I brought my boss in with me last week, he came across as very cocky and really pissed them off and they said I would have been better off not bringing him at all.  So now I have to figure out how to further slash my prices AND save  face.

  • I am sick. Not just sick of most things, I have a nasty cold. I have Airborne and medicine and cough drops and tea. And I gotta be at work for 10 hours today.

Last night I didn't work out. :( This will be the second week since the beginning of August that I won't have done 5x a week. Half of me is all "it's okay, SSC, you're sick" and the other half is mean and "you're going to be fat forever, fatty".

This girl at work is mad at me because I asked her to get up when her Jimmy John's arrives (we have no receptionist and we have a bell. I'm the closest one so I generally get up but I am not this bitch's bitch and I should not be getting the door when she knows it's her damned sandwich). It's great that she's mad at me though because she is taking her dumbshit questions and personal problems elsewhere.

Tonight we're taking the dog to my dad's since we're leaving for Green Bay in the morning. Gunna force myself to work out and hope to sleep for 1000 hours.

  • Wait, she wants you to get up and get her sandwich @ShesSoCold, and she's made you told her to get it herself? I'm confused. Or not, she just sounds like a terrible co-worker.

I'm gearing myself up for the debate watch party tonight. And also have a work vent. My colleague has arranged these watch parties and wants faculty at them. Great, I'll attend. But she is overly worried about EVERYTHING. Seriously, everything is an emergency and everything is done at warp speed. I just want to tell her to chill the eff out because it's a college student watch party; I'm pretty sure I can handle the sign-in sheets and set up the computer in the 30 minutes you asked that I get there early. I did it last time when you didn't show up. \rantover.

Yeah - we have a long narrow office suite with the door at the front and everyone's desks/offices at the back. There's a bell at the front of the office that everyone can hear (can't see the door). Everyone else is lazy and I get up 99% of the time when the bell rings. Several times it has been her Jimmy John's delivery and I'll get up, greet the guy, then have to go back to her and she's like "yeah it's my sandwich" so I asked her to get up so I don't have to when she's expecting something. She acted like I asked her to wipe my ass.

  • @ShesSoCold after you open the door, do you then take her sandwich back to her desk?
  • I'm seeing a lot of FB posts from people in my hometown complaining about various school things.  I'm so glad we don't live there.  It actually feels weird for me to say that because there are so many people I love and miss there, but I could never send my kids to that school system.

I finally found a place that will fix my phone.  I was all set to ship it off to the manufacturer, but at the last minute the rep (3rd rep I have spoken to in as many days) remembered that they are temporarily not accepting any out-of-warranty devices.  And I might need professional help for my love of this thing because I feel like I'm going through withdrawal without it.

  • @ShesSoCold after you open the door, do you then take her sandwich back to her desk?

No, it still needs to be paid for and/or the credit card slip signed. So I get up, say hi to JJ guy, go to her desk and tell her that her JJ is here and she gets up to get it.

She's just lazy and I think she thinks she's above me on the company ladder. She does the same thing when her boss has clients.

  • Definitely a full pot 'o coffee day since I've already had to toss out the empty threats against my kids because they were behaving like heathens.   I've been working for 1.25 hours.  It's going to be a long rest of the week.  ;)
  • We need a new HVAC system for one of my rentals and my H has been collecting quotes.  They're running $5500 and I am just super pissed about it.  This is a 2-bedroom, 800 sq. ft. house.  All the ductwork is already there.  That is stupid high and I don't understand it.

We apparently have 6 more quotes coming in.  Six, lol!?!  My H apparently took it seriously when I asked him to "make sure and call those couple companies we saw on Craig's List in July, who didn't call us back".  I am hoping we can find SOMETHING more reasonable.

My H is so sweet, though.  I asked yesterday about A/C quotes and he deftly deflected my question by talking about something else with our new duplex.  I asked him again this morning and he finally came out with it.  I know he was hoping to have lower quotes come in before saying anything to me, lol.

Money is extra tight with the rehab for the new duplex, plus I need to put a new roof on another house.  I know the wife wants central (her H is fine with the window units we provided in the meantime), but I've been thinking about trying to make a deal with them to lower the rent by $50/month if they agree to just keep the window units.

Short story, long.  I have come to hate HVAC units.  I don't have one at my own house, so I don't have a lot of experience with them.  Maybe I've just had bad luck, but I've had to make one repair each this summer for two other HVAC systems at rental properties.  I could have bought a brand new, large high quality window unit with both air/heat for what I paid for each one of those repairs.  And that's just maintenance!  That's just repairs!

One of them was an older system.  But one of them was less than 2 years old.  So it's not just the cost of putting a new system in, it's the future maintenance worries, too.  It just doesn't seem worth it.

I think I'd just let him stand there and not say anything to her. She knows it's her food.

I think I'd re-think the 99% of the time you get up to get the door.  If you're not expecting someone, I'd let that buzzer ring until one of your co-workers got up.

  • your renters get a say in the type of A'/C unit  @short+sassy  ? I would think well you moved in with window units and that is what is staying unless they signed the lease with the expectation of change
  • I had a very positive job interview yesterday, but I'm still relatively certain I wouldn't take the job if it was offered.  I'm having a really hard time balancing my "get me outta here!" sentiment about my current job with my desire to find a good fit where I could be happy to stay for a while.  (My industry has a huge rate of people moving around very often, so job hopping isn't the worry it would be in other lines of work, but it still sucks to change jobs.)  I just wish I had some way of knowing for sure if the new company that bought us out is going to keep me on.  An "I'm not sure about the new owners and I'm interested in exploring my options" job search looks different from a "my job is going away in a month" job search.
  • congrats on that extra 1/2 hour @mrsconn23!  I'd go somewhere a little further on lunch tomorrow since you have the extra drive time ;)

Now I want Jimmy Johns.  Man, is that bread good.

A few days ago, I saw a facebook add for a Halloween candle w/deco art ring.  Showed it to FI and said I ordered one for me since it looked awesome.  I used regular shipping though.  He beat me to it, and had it rushed delivery and I got it yesterday!  the scent is amazing. And now I have 4 rings to uncover.  I wanted to cheat with the bathbomb and just throw it into water, but I might as well take an actual bath soon.  I hate baths though.

I work from home and my kids are on fall break.  :D  I may just stay shut up in my office and take a nap.  ;)
  • oh yeah, a nap trumps that.  I used to go home on my lunches (I work 5 minutes away) and take naps on my lunch.  But when i woke up, and went back to work it was kinda like another day all over again.  So my 5 day week turned into what felt like 10.  I stopped the naps.

It was an  HVAC system when they moved in.  So I do feel responsible for changing "like with like" or offering a concession on their rent if they'll agree to accept the window units.  I also outline in my lease the items in the home I am responsible for maintaining/replacing.  The HVAC system is one of them.

I could rent it fairly easily at their current rent even with window units.  But we are under a lease until April, so I feel I need to replace it or work out a new deal.

I do have one rental with window units and my new duplex will have window units.  So, yes, tenants who move into places with window units already know that is the deal.  I've occasionally had a potential tenant ask if I will put central in.  I politely tell them "no" and give them a brief reasoning.  While thinking, "Oh, HELL no."

I got so focused on my job situation that I forgot to mention the two other things I was going to talk about:

We had dinner and drinks with our friend and her new fiance last night.  I've mentioned them before on here--I am happy that she seems to be happy, but I honestly don't love them as a couple.  The dude is a weird mix of charming and asshole-ish, almost like a TV character that is fun to watch but you realize you wouldn't actually want to be friends with.  But anyway...it was nice catching up with her, and he is pleasant enough to be around as long as he is not expected to perform any emotional labor.

Then when we got home I was absurdly excited to put together a new shelving unit that I ordered to store the canned goods I have preserved this year plus all my canning supplies.  They haven't had a proper "home" in the house until now, and I am embarrassingly stoked to remedy that.  The shelf liners are coming in a separate shipment,  and when they get here I will finally get to have everything put away in a way that makes sense.  God I have gotten old and domesticated...lol
  • Home inspection was last night.  Had a chance to test out my commute to and from work.  There are 3 traffic lights in 50 miles.  It's gonna be pretty sweet not having this stop-and-go bullshit.  But it's gonna suck that it's so long.  Poor H.  He will have actual traffic, in addition to a long commute.  Yay for being in the sticks!

Met the son-IL of the homeowners, and the step-grandson-IL, who is actually living there with his wife, the GD.  So there are no less than 3 generations of one family invested in the sale of this home.  I just want to bang my head against the wall.  Friendly people.  Talked my ear off.  But gdamn, y'all.

Also met the cat, forgot I met the cat, and rubbed my eyes, so they got all red and puffy, and still, 18 hours later, feel kinda like they are suffocating.

No major issues with the house (thank god), so, pending the appraisal which should come back today, maybe I can finally start sleeping through the night without "Exorcist-ing" in my sleep (sitting straight up in bed and gasping like I've been possessed, according to H).  The stress is borderline unmanageable.

In other news, I am pretty sure my Sleep Number is 55.

That is nuts!  She has to go to the door anyway!  A normal person, even if they never normally answer the door, would pop up to go get their food since they have to go ALL the way to the door to pay.  I'm sure it is super far (sarcasm).  What a ridiculous b***h.

makes sense. I was thinking you already had window units and were considering adding central air to make them happy and was just like wow
  • So DS is healthy as a horse and thought the eye test was hilarious.  The nurse gave him the one with the symbols, and he was completely screwing around: it had like an apple, a house, and an umbrella, and he would say "Pocket!  Bug!  Igloo!"  Which is basically DH to a T, so I know exactly where DS gets it from.  I told the nurse that she could try the letter one because he knows all his letters, and then afterwards I was like "OMG, did I sound braggy?  Like one of those parents?"  I just meant that he could do the one with the E, Z, H, etc. because he can identify them and might be less likely to just make things up.

Took him to CFA for lunch, because we weren't done in time for DC lunch.  Dropped him off, and in the 10 minutes it took me to get to the interstate, I saw one near accident and one actual accident.  And on the way to pick up the kids yesterday, my usual route was detoured due to a school bus/car collision.  People in that area are the worst drivers ever.

  • @CharmedPam I'm so glad you like that because I just ordered myself a couple of bath bombs.
