Wedding Woes

Is there a Monday post?

If not, I guess there is now.  Happy Monday!

Thanks for the well wishes Friday, everyone.  I was summoned to my mom's again Thursday night: she was feeling short of breath and lightheaded and they were going to admit her, but she didn't want to stay in the hospital so she got them to release her on the condition that someone stayed with her overnight.  Enter me.  They ran an EKG and a CT scan to make sure she didn't have a blood clot on her lungs or anything, and fortunately that was clear.  Most likely it was because her hemoglobin was low and she wasn't eating well.  Pretty much everything in her blood count was low (I pictured it as sort of watered down red Koolaid rather than the usual stuff), which is why she had a transfusion Friday.  We had to wait forrrrrrrrreverrrrrrr: they wanted to type and crossmatch her (even though the same hospital typed her before her biopsy), and then there was an emergency elsewhere, and in total we were there for almost 4 hours before she actually got any blood.  She slept almost the whole time, so I played on my phone until it died.  When we were done, we picked up her groceries, and she sent me on my way, in time for rush hour.  DH picked up the kids and took Wooz to her riding lesson, and I made it home with takeout right before they did.

Saturday, we got the rest of Wooz's new furniture, moved her old stuff to DS's room, and moved DS old furniture downstairs to the guest bedroom.  Yesterday, Wooz had a last minute play date while DH assembled Wooz's dresser (IKEA FTW) and I caught up on chores and entertained DS.  He is at an awesome age: "Do I have bones in my leg? Do I have bones in my foot?  Does a fish have bones in its body?  Does a rock have bones?"  So much to make sense of.

How was the weekend, everyone?

Re: Is there a Monday post?

  • Weekend was pretty good.  Friday night DH and I went to dinner then the USA Mexico game.  We lost, but it was a BLAST.

Saturday was 1st Reconciliation for 6let then his 1st indoor game.  Indoor was sooooooo much fun to watch.  The other parents were really into too which makes it fun.

Sunday church then the entire afternoon outside playing.  I had a planning meeting for our big event.  We are "sold" out (it's free) with 2 weeks to go.  We don't have a single seat in the house and are trying to figure out how tow squeeze in overflow seats.

This week is back to the grind and getting ready for thanksgiving.  I've got all of my Christmas lists made now I just need to go buy stuff.
  • I started a Monday post and then spilled coffee everywhere.  I feel like it's a metaphor for...something?

Weekend was all right.  Friday night we didn't do much.

Saturday, I worked.  DH took my car in to get my tires balanced and rotated.  He also fixed the shelf that fell in our storage room and I found the rest of my winter clothes.  I can say for once that I really don't need anything.  Also, I have a lot of cute dresses that I need to wear for the holidays.  DH and I went grocery shopping after I got off work.

Sunday, we got up and I made breakfast.  After that I cleaned and baked and did laundry.  I made my first ever orange cranberry walnut bread.  It turned out OK.  I think it needs a little more moisture.  I'm going to make a second loaf for Thanksgiving.

I'm torn on what to do this coming weekend.  We are hosting TG.  I have *most* of what I need to host and the rest will be just odds and ends (and beer and wine).  I could stay home and clean house and get those odds and ends.  OR I can go with DH, FIL, and the kids to visit his extended family in IL.  DH's grandfather's brain cancer has returned (it's being managed, but he's 85...so yeah).  His 90 year old sister (who's amazing) is coming to visit.  I found out that DH's two OOT uncles are also coming.  Plus I'd get to see DH's cousin's wife L, who is probably my fave family member (because she also married into this cuh-razy family and we ride the same wavelength often).  But I'm afraid of making myself crazy next week trying to get all of the shit done for TG.  Ugh...I'm probably overthinking this.

I hosted TG last year a day after we buried MIL and it was a fuckton more rushed and crazy then.  I just said, "Fuck it."  I should do that now. /ramble
  • I feel like I cooked all weekend. All day pasta sauce Saturday, pecan pie bars for H on Sunday and then tons of meal prep for the week. And cleaned. I cleaned a lot too which was nice.

Found a good pair of mittens for me. But they're 130 fucking dollars. Cabela's needs to send me a coupon.

Last night I went to get on the elliptical, the screen turned on for a minute and then died. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it off and on a bunch, smacked it, nothing. Dammit. I made myself work out anyway (the machine still worked, just not the screen and I couldn't change the resistance or incline). H comes home, looks at it and the cord was unplugged from the end where it goes into the machine. I'm a dumbshit and require a man to do many things for me.

Any of you have one of those things that vacuums and mops at the same time? Bissell makes the Symphony and a new one I saw a commercial for. If they work well, I would totally get one.

  • Good morning (I think).  The past five days have been a total cluster.  I have barely had time or energy to memorize my new zip code.

All our shit has been delivered, and we're slowing making our way through Box City.  I know it's pretty normal for a house to be a disaster within days of moving thousands of pounds of items into it, but I seriously feel like I'm going to lose my mind with the clutter.  DH wants to go through every.single.box, INCLUDING all the ones I taped up like 5 moves ago with the intention to NEVER GO THROUGH AGAIN (I think this is how hoarding starts?).  So now we have random bits of memorabilia sitting on every surface in the house, comic books and baseball cards, no fewer than 8 TI-83 calculators (???), Mardi Gras beads, cups, and baubles... I just want to find a bin and sweep everything into it and shove it in the attic and leave it for our future offspring to worry about.

As long as DH finds a home for everything by Friday, I'll let it go.

So.  Yeah.  Boxes.  Everywhere.  I do not know where my kitchen is.  BUT OMG THE STORAGE SPACE!  We have purged a lot (two massive boxes and counting), which is awesome.

Toothless is doing alright.  Better than expected, but not great.  He's going to the vet tonight.  Hoping for good news.

I had the SCARIEST sleepwalking episode of my life on Friday night.  DH and I fell asleep on the couch, and I have no idea what happened, but the next thing I know, I am standing in the middle of the hall, screaming, demanding to know where my H is and what the man on the couch did with him AND the dogs.  I completely did not recognize DH at all.  Or the dogs.  It was some time before I recognized DH enough to even let him near me to reassure me it was really him.  He was a total stranger to me.  It was absolutely terrifying.  No recollection of how I got there, or when I got up, or what I was even dreaming about.  It rattled my cage enough that it was hours before I was able to fall back asleep.  Shook DH up pretty well, too.

Yesterday sucked.  For many reasons, but I will simply leave it at OMFG THE SAINTS.

  • The kids had Friday off so my mom came up with my niece and we took the girls to see Trolls.  It was a cute movie and we all had fun.

Then Friday night the girls went to the ILs' house to spend the night, which turned into two nights.

DH and I restarted our Netflix membership after not having it most of the year (I think we watched Making A Murderer in January and then cancelled it).  We literally watched Netflix all weekend.  And napped.  Holy cow it was glorious to fall asleep whenever we wanted.

    Son starts Driver's Ed tonight.

  • This weekend was OK.  Went back to boxing class on Saturday and the instructor said I'd feel it in my arms the next day since I took 3 weeks off.  Surprisingly enough, my arms were OK.  I feel it mostly in my back and abs.  I contacted my bank to see what they can do as far as re-fing my house.  They keep calling to get a hold of me and I finally walked into the bank to get some questions answered in person.   they're working on it, and hopefully they can lower my monthly payment and make a re-fi worth it.

Sunday was a food fest for DH and I.  We stopped in at buffalo wild wings before our movie (Ouiji.  Don't waste your time) and the waitress we had was awesome.  I usually get a pumpkin ale this time of year but they didn't have any.  I told her I liked fruity but cider's were to sweet.  She suggested the "angry moon".  1/2 angry orchard and 1/2 blue moon.  If pumpkin ale's are out, this is now my new beer.

@Heffalump, glad your mom was able to be released

@Atomicblonde, that sounds super scary! Do you normally sleepwalk?

  • @CharmedPam, it's been at least 4 years since my last episode of sleepwalking, maybe even longer.  It only happens in times of great stress, so I guess everything that's happened in the last couple of months finally caught up with me.

DH took the kiddo out to practice this weekend for the first time.  :D

Hmmm...apparently I can't bold anything or add colored text into the box.  I think my comments will still make sense:

-You know you are a real New Orleanian when...you have to reinforce your attic to hold all the Mardi Gras beads.

-I am so sorry to hear about your sleepwalking episode!  That does sound terrifying.  One of my worst fears is waking up to a stranger in my house, like a home invasion.

-Saints game.  Just astounding.  I'm still reeling a bit.  I told my H, "I don't think I can watch another Saints game this season."  Of course I will, but it's so fresh.

For those of you who don't know what we are referring to.  The Saints made a miracle TD in the last couple minutes of the game that left them tied with the Broncos.  However, as soon as they kick that extra point, they're ahead and should win the game.  Extra points after a TD are rarely missed.  It got blocked, which leaves them tied and going to OT.  Oh, but no.  Just when you're PO'ed its even going to OT.  A Bronco player picks up the ball and runs it for a touchback.  Which is two points.  And now the Saints lose.  An extremely unusual event all around, but that doesn't lessen the sting.

As for me, I'm just really unhappy at work.  I'm completely unmotivated and need to get it together.  Ironically, now that the project is over, my work load has increased with a lot of dumb, petty stuff.  And since my job is ending in the near future anyway, I'm resentful and hate being here now.  Okay, I'll stop my vetching.

This sounds brilliant!!!!  I'm the same way.  I love ciders, but find most of them too sweet.  Thanks for the tip.

The Stella Artois Cidre is one of the best I've had.  Great cider flavor and a couple touches of sweetness, but not nearly as sweet as the typical Angry Orchard/Red Apple stuff.

  • mostly sucked, see FB.

    I'm still kinda crappy feeling.
But there's tile in 2/3 of my kitchen--not yet grouted
  • @Heffalump glad the EKG was clear, but still boo to her not feeling well :(

    @AtomicBlonde  Scary!!

Productive weekend with crap ending :(

Friday H ended up staying home all day. I asked him to not make plans because with him working lots and me being sick we hadn't really been able to do much together. So we just hung out at home at watched Netflix.

Saturday we were up pretty early, so we moved the couch around to fit properly in the living room. That cleared up so much space! I didn't realize having it the wrong way would make that much of a difference, but apparently it does.

Our photo shoot went well! I'll post a couple of my faves later :) We ended up getting them late Saturday night, while we had friends over playing. I kept looking at them because they just turned out so well

Sunday went to look for gifts and got Starbucks. Originally H was to do his tires, but he had a headache. Might have been over tired though. Got a couple things, but nothing we were looking for.

About an hour before I go to bed, my eye starts itching. Similar to allergies. Then puffs up, this is what happened about 2 weeks ago! It's still bad this morning, so I opt to stop by Walmart near my work. Pharmacist tells me to see clinic because looks like infection. Either sty or pink eye.
    Hurts now :(

I got to work and my boss tells me to call clinic to see someone. Well ... H is home today, something he ate last night not agreeing with him so he's picking me up early to get my ohip done and go to clinic. Luckily my actual dr is in today, so I can see her.
  • I've been sick for.fucking.ever and I am so over it.  I finally went to urgent care a couple of weeks ago when I carried a box up some stairs and could barely breathe by the theme I got up there.  I got diagnosed with bronchitis, had antibiotics and an inhaler, and was finally starting to get better.  Then I got slammed with a nasty cold, and I'm in the midst of that now.  I just hope I am better enough to not be super gross and off-putting at a client happy hour I am hosting tomorrow.

We were super social all weekend, which was fun.  Friday happy hour with a friend for her birthday, and after the tap room we finally got to see their new condo.  It's a beautiful converted warehouse loft, but their actual unit is minuscule.  I think FI was a wee bit jealous when they bought it this summer, since it's in a very hip area and we both love that aesthetic.  But after seeing it in person he is extra thankful for our more-spacious home.

Saturday we had a CouchSurfing guest, and she was super nice.  The three of us hung out for a while and then a friend came over with his girlfriend who just moved from Idaho to be with him.  She is just completely awesome, and I am really excited for the two of them!

Sunday we went to see my FFIL.  He's only 69 years old but he acts like he is in his 80s.  At least visiting him is always a story...  Then we had friends over for cocktail hour.  We used to do it every week, but then the other two core couples of the group moved away.  It was a success anyway, so I think we are going to try to spark it up again on the regular.
  • I had unprepared wedding dreams too @kimmiinthemitten. They faded real quick was I was drinking wine on a beach in Spain.

Half-marathon Saturday was great. Weather was fantastic, 45 degrees but bright sun. Took13 minutes off my time since September. Still not a PR, but getting closer to my pre-surgery speed. I'm sore and tired, but it was fun. Here's me celebrating with beer and my medal.

I got glasses for the first time Friday and still getting used to them anyone else feel weird for a few days after?

H was hunting Saturday and Sunday so I have to learn how to cook some pheasant. Any ideas? He's also in a crappy mood because of work and wanting a new job but not having any luck. So instead of talking about that he overreacted to Thanksgiving plans and was kind of a jerk.

Anyone watch John Oliver last night? The last 5 minutes of everyone saying "fuck 2016" was exactly what I needed.

I love pheasant. It's (obviously) a bird so it gets extremely dry if cooked even like a minute too long.

I've made jalepeno poppers with a pheasant breast wrapped around 'em and a piece of bacon wrapped around that. H likes pheasant breasts breaded in seasoned flour and just fried in oil. I think the original recipe was for dove breasts, but I've done this with both - cook onions, carrots and celery in a pan in butter, add soy sauce, juice of an orange, some stock and fresh ginger, put the pheasant in, cover and cook just until cooked. I serve over rice. It takes a total of like 20 minutes which is great.

  • @charlotte989875  congrats on running!! New glasses are weird, regardless wearing them for awhile or brand new. Adjusting to your new HD life ;)

  • I got glasses for the first time Friday and still getting used to them anyone else feel weird for a few days after?

Give it time--I've had the since I was 12 and EVERY new script = 'huh, the world looks funny"
And be careful looking at your feet when you walk while you're adjusting--either you stomp (because you think the ground is farther than it is) or you nearly fall(because you thik the ground is closer than it is)

    Yay for running.

All around I think there's a lot of crap right now.  I think I'm going back to bed.

That sounds great @ShesSoCold, thanks! I've never done pheasant but I was worried about it getting too dry.

yep.  I also got my first pair glasses at the same age.  Although I've been wearing contacts almost exclusively since I was 17.   When I do switch from contacts to glasses it always feels weird (although I adjust fairly quickly).  Totally normal.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • Had a pretty quiet Saturday and a busy Sunday. I kind of veged on Saturday because the week had been very busy, so I made up for it doing various household chores and projects on Sunday. Last night was nice and productive.

Is this your first pair?  I have an insane script, but I've been in glasses/contacts since second grade so I'm used to it.  But my previous pair had a small lens (size wise) and I realized the difference between my corrected vision and my peripheral vision made me nauseous.  I'd try to stay focused through the lens and not around.  Many chain places have 30 day return policies too, so if you're still not adjusted in a week or so I'd ask about that.

  • Hi All!  Back from vacation and it was such a great week!  The exception to the great week was the outcome of the election.  I'm still dumb founded and scared of all the damage a fully controlled Republican House and fucking T/P will do to our country.  And especially the SC.  I pray that all the liberal judges can live the 4+ years until we can rid ourselves of T/P.  I hope the dems rally and pull out a shift of the House's control at mid-terms.

Anyway, I'm sure that's been talked to death the last week, so I won't talk about that anymore!

Vegas was a ton of fun!  We did not have a bad meal anywhere!  I did have a mix up on a groupon I purchased and blew threw about 1/4 of our food budget on our very first day and very first meal out of our unit :(  H tried to assume me it was fine, but the mistake made us miss out on renting a car for the Hoover Dam and Red Rocks Canyon.  And by the end of the week, H didn't want to hit up a buffet (H's most favorite thing ever) because we had to start using our cc faster due to my mistake.  He didn't say it was because of my mistake, but I know that didn't help our cause at all.  All because that groupon was not valid on Sundays!

Other than my mistake, we saw lots of the casinos and their free shows.  We went to a timeshare presentation to get some free show tickets.  They also gave us a free breakfast, so there was that!  The resort was beautiful and they had a free shuttle to a casino on the strip, so that also was nice.  Down the block there was a Super 8 Casino, which made us laugh each time we drove past it!  There was also a Best Western Casino right on the strip.  We found it so funny that they these not that glamorous hotel chains had casinos attached!  Being from South Jersey, I have been to Atlantic City, but Vegas was such a larger scale of everything.  It was just insane.

Heff - I'm glad your mom is doing better now! Continued good health for her!

Tonight we have a follow-up with Betsey the dog to see how her shoulders have loosened up after doing her exercises.  Except, we totally dropped the ball and didn't do her exercises.  She has been much more mobile since getting out of her hobbles, so I'm hoping that helped them loosen up.  She was also with my parents for the week while we were on vacation and they are in a split level house.  So hopefully her need to navigate steps more frequently helped too.  Either way, the dr is being lied to and we did her exercises every day!

I've been holding strong at a -7.0 in my contacts for a few years now. I always forget if glasses are a stronger or weaker prescription, I know it is different since one sits on the eye and the other is further away
  • Awesome job on your half marathon, @charlotte989875!!

@ShesSoCold that pheasant recipe sounds amazing - I am definitely going to have to try that!

Weighing in on the glasses convo - I have had a prescription for my eyes since I was 5 and I have been wearing contacts since I was 16. I have astigmatism in both eyes, and am far-sighted. My left eye is the better of the two - -1.5, and my right is considerably worse at -4.25.

Maybe it's a depth perception thing or a peripheral vision thing, but without fail, every single time I get a new pair of glasses (every 2-3 years or so, as they are my "backup" to contacts) I have the hardest time adjusting to them for about a week. I bump into things, miscalculate distances and heights. It's a disaster. Especially when I am already a klutz.
  • Friday - Was my day off, so I got a 90 minute massage, and relaxed during the day. In the evening, DK and I did a double date with a friend and her H. Went to a new Irish pub in our area, and it was pretty good.

Saturday & Sunday - just sort of lazy days. did some chores and hung out at home.

Yes, Vegas is mucho money.  So much fun though!  I like to travel with my parents because they get free rooms on their Hilton points and free buffets with their harrah's points.  glad you had fun!

edit:  Did I tell you about "my vegas" app? It's free and you can earn tickets to some shows there.  We got to see love at buy 1 get 1 and it was amazing!
