How was the holiday weekend?

Ours was OK.  Thanksgiving was great.  My nephew is 10 mos and so fun.  I love this age where you just watch their little minds clicking along and trying to figure stuff out.  He babbles a ton.  When he's happy, he lets out this high pitched squeal.  I got him this book for Christmas, which will be perfect.

I had to work Friday.  DH had to work all weekend. I hung out with my family Saturday night.  Yesterday I baked cinnamon rolls.  I did a double batch, but I think I might need to make a 3rd so we have some for Christmas morning (I give them away to family and friends, plus DH usually gives a pan to co-workers).   The kids were begging for them as I was packing them up to freeze them yesterday.  Oy.  ;)

Re: Monday!

  • The weekend was okay; travel was good which was a relief, family time was good, no major drama, which was unexpected. H is off hunting for the week so I'm home alone. I'm WFH and still in my PJs. The dog keeps looking around for H though, which breaks my heart a little.
  • @mrsconn23 what a cute book!!

    @charlotte989875  yay no drama!

@Heffalump  it's always interesting to see kids almost mentally debate whether something is real or not. Also, about the Santa thing. I was lucky my dad was into certain things, so he taught me about time zones and how not everyone celebrated Christmas. That sufficed me. I asked my mum when I was 9, she thought I was ready and I was not, so I get the complications :\

Friday we ran later than expected. We were suppose to be at my coworker's bday dinner by 6 {i'm off at 5} but with parking, we didn't get in until like 6:45 .... I do not like being late.

Coworker's 5yr old came over and wanted to hang with me, then other coworker's daughter - 10 months - was on my lap for awhile too. I'm just going to start kidnapping kids lmao!

Saturday morning I was up early, because Angel was hungry and just couldn't go back to bed. So we hit the couch - Angel all curled up with me - and we watched Gilmore Girl's. Anyone else watch? I won't give away spoilers in case.
About noon-ish, M and I hit the mall for some xmas shopping. Man it was super busy! I wish I'd finished my shopping by now :( I had a bit of an emotional time because while M and I were looking at pop vinyls I saw they had Pinky and the Brain and it made me think of my dad, which just made me miss him and almost cry in the store. We left quick enough for me to get it together.

So I was telling M about what happened in the store, and I started crying again. I explained I know it sounds stupid for feeling emotional over figurines, but it's just it links. He said he understood. I hope so.

Stopped by my mum's. I told her what happened, and she thinks holidays hit me earlier because my friend - who passed away 6 yrs ago - has a bday coming up on Dec 6th.

That night M went to watch hockey with a friend down the street. I finished watching Gilmore Girl's.

Sunday I woke up all congested. We had plans to go watch the Grey Cup game at a friend's place, so I just lazed around to get rest.

I ended up leaving early because I just felt so tired, but we won! 40yrs since we won but we did it!! It was in over time. For awhile we had a good lead, but they tied it and we got it with one touchdown in overtime!
It's crazy! I literally stared at the tv {from my position on the couch - half asleep} saying "did we just win? Did we seriously just win!? WHAT!"
  • Also, apparently the horoscopes are actually suppose to change!? Uhm no. I'm a Virgo, not a Leo thanks. I have the tattoo to prove it lmao

Yes. Sounding like there's one casualty and seems to be contained but still saying shelter in place. I had to turn it off because my 8 year old was starting to pick things up

Terrifying. My biggest fear of working on a college campus.

Good vibes in the hopes your H stays safe, @6fsn!
  • Thursday went really well. My SF is an ass, though, and kept calling my homemade whipped cream "imitation cool whip" and MIL got antsy as soon as she finished eating so she hopped up and started cleaning. She insisted on loading the dishwasher then got irritated when I told her that I don't run my cookware or wooden utensils through the dishwasher. BTW - there were no plates in there because she used all the room for 1 pan. SMH.

Friday, we didn't leave the house.

Saturday, I went to a Small Business Saturday Holiday Market and found this super cute boutique that sews baby things. I spent way too much money, but oh well. Came home and cooked glazed carrots for Friendsgiving. Went and hung out with some friends and it was nice.

Yesterday, we had breakfast with MIL. Mouse was having such a good time talking to the older gentleman at the next booth so I paid for his breakfast when we were leaving. I always hope people don't get upset because I know some take it as an insult like we're saying "you can't afford your food." They were supposed to tell him Merry Christmas, so I just hope it brightened his day. Then, we hit Target for diapers and Kohl's for Christmas PJ's for H and eldest. After that, we vegged on the couch the rest of the day.

We have a park near us that is known for their Christmas light display. I keep dropping hints to H that I'd like to go there on a date and go through on the horse-drawn carriage. I'm not sure he's picking up what I'm laying down though.

Good vibes for you H @6fsn.
  • Safe wishes for Mr. 6, hopefully it gets taken care of quickly and without any further casualties.

Our weekend was good.  We got free dinners on Friday and Saturday too!  Thanksgiving was uneventful, which is always a good thing.

Friday, I did my Christmas shopping.  Only a few things left to get, which will probably be purchased all online.  Friday, my H called MIL since it was the 13th anniversary of his dad's death.  She said she was just ordering a pizza for dinner for her and BF.  So I said, did you want to order your granddaughter a pizza too?  And she agreed!  LOL!  So we then went over there for dinner.

Saturday, we got our first coat of paint up in the bathroom.  The ceiling needs another coat and then the walls need their coat as well.  Then its onto the tile floor, which H hopes to start on Saturday.  Saturday night, we went to H's friends house for tacos and a movie.  We watched the new Star Trek movie and it was pretty good.

Sunday, was mostly a lazy day.  I did make popovers (that didn't pop!) for breakfast.  I had a wreath making party in the afternoon which was a lot of fun.  One lady buys all of the stuff to put on the wreaths, has a load of ribbon, and we just pay her for the supplies and then go to town.  My wreath came out pretty good and I'm happy with it.  I will post a picture of it later in the week.

This morning, I have already purchased our Christmas cards from VP with 60% off and 8% back from ebates!  I also got a groupon to use for dinner tonight.  I have my monthly checkup scheduled for this evening, so we will do dinner first and then make our way to the doctor's office.  The Eagles play tonight, so hopefully I will get to see some of the game.

I've been getting some insomnia at night the last few weeks and I hope it doesn't continue.  Last night I even thought about getting up and going down stairs to watch some tv, but  stayed in bed.  I did move my giant pregnancy pillow out of the bed and got a smaller one to use, so I could cuddle up to H.  I was eventually able to fall back to sleep and slept ok until the alarm.  But I am done with this!  I know my sleep will be terrible once baby gets here, but she's not here yet!  Just let me sleep.

  • Heffa, your daughter is getting so big. Maybe, she can give you one more year with Santa.

Love the pictures. It looks like you guys had a great time, 6.

I had a great time with my Mom. She spilt her time between staying with me and my sister. I didn't do much shopping this year. I think I'm going to save up for something big instead.

  • @6fsn  vibes for Mr. 6!!

    @OliveOilsMom  yay free dinner ;)
  • @DrillSergeantCat  Doesn't sound like he typically catches hints. That does sound wonderfully romantic though!! Definitely plan a date :)
  • Oh no, @6fsn praying that your H stays safe! That is so scary.

TG was kind of depressing. My granddad wasn't in a good mood. He's not exactly the most upbeat person in the world anyways, but he usually is a little perkier on holidays. Not this time. Any time mom and I tried to joke about something he pretty much shot us down. My mama was not having a good day at all. She didn't know it was Thanksgiving. I honestly don't even know if she 100% knew who me and mom are. She was saying lots of things that didn't make sense and granddad kept rambling to the point of not making sense too. It was weird. Mom and I left feeling very heavy hearted.

The rest of the weekend was ok. DH and I got into a little tiff over communication. He's not the best communicator, but usually he tries really hard. Since that isn't his forte naturally, it's usually the first thing to go when he's in a bad mood or busy or having a rough day. I reminded him that since he isn't here to spend time with me I need him to work harder on communicating with me. Little things like telling me he misses me or that he's thinking about me really helps me feel loved and validated when he's away. He took it very well and has been doing better the last few days. I'm sure we'll have the same conversation again in a few weeks. Lol.

Mom and I put up my Christmas tree last night. I can't find the tree topper or our nativity so I'm going to look for those some more tonight and then put the ornaments on the tree.

  • @MissKittyDanger He's wanting to rent a room somewhere and have someone stay at our house to watch Mouse. I've told him he just has to plan it and surprise me with it because I'll just stress about it if I'm involved.

Oh my.   Hope everyone is safe.

It finally snowed.  YAY.  Looks like a winter wonderland.   We are to get more today/tonight.   I picked up my ski equipment rentals on Friday.   The benefits of knowing owners of a ski shop is I got them free of charge.   Another yay!     DH went skiing this morning.  I would have gone, but he went to the more difficult mountain and I'm just not ready yet.   (I'm not a good skier).

I did get most of the decorating finished.   We bought new lights for the balcony, only to find out a big chunk in the middle do not work. So I have to take them back.

Can't wait until Wednesday.   That is when I have my first meeting for work.  I will find out when we start, which should be sometimes next week I'm guessing.

I'm doing a 3267 foot elevation/ 2.5 mile  charity hike on Saturday.   It's up one of the ski mountains.  In the dark.  So I will be outfitted with spikes, poles and a headlamp. The good news there will be alcohol at the top as motivation.  I plan on doing a hike or 2 in the snow sometime this week to get ready.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Over the Thanksgiving break we put up the garland, bows, and lights on our picket fence. I found a great deal on these battery-operated LED candles that can be set to a timer and that have a warm glow - not the weird blue LED light, so I put those in all the windows (we are on a corner, so I didn't want to have a "hole" in the lighting).

We are hoping to get our tree next weekend, and I am on a hunt for the perfect Christmas wreath. A coworker told me Whole Foods has really nice ones, so I think I will stop there on my way home from work on night this week.

  • I had such a great weekend, despite fighting with everyone.

I usually dinner date with my best friend on Wednesday and since it was amateur night I spent the night.  We got into a thing because she's suffering from last single girl standing syndrome and helping plan my wedding so it's a bit bittersweet.  We hung Saturday and Sunday too because I felt like she needed the extra girl time, and we had a blast!

Thursday was the Lions game (yassss!) and FI and I went to his aunts.  Friday his mom and my parents came over for dinner, which was delicious if I do say so myself.  And then FI and FMIL fought over the processional and who sits where (no your ex in laws are not being relegated to the 6th row so your family can sit in the front and not intermingle).

Last night after getting home from shopping, FI and I then fought because my companies open enrollment ends at 5pm on Wednesday and he has done absolutely nothing to find out what his costs would be to add me to his insurance so we can make an educated decision.

I know I can technically change it, but with our wedding date being 2 weeks after OE I feel like it's really rude to do that to HR when he had an entire month to get me this information.

@6fsn the OSU situation has been on the news here too.  I hope everyone is okay, this is so terrifying!

@Heffalump That is too funny!  A friend of mines daughter cracked us all up a couple years ago when she realized the truth about Santa.  She looked at her mom point blank and said "whose lap have I been sitting in for all these years then?"  You suddenly realize how creepy that tradition is when it's put like that.

The day before Thanksgiving is always a short day at work, and this year the powers that be let us go at noon (usually it's more like 3, and I was afraid we might not get out early at all this year since we have different folks in charge now).  Originally intended to use that bonus time to get to my parents' house early, but that didn't wind up happening.  We made it down there by 10 PM, which was just fine.

Thanksgiving was very nice.  It was just the four of us (parents, me, FI), and there was good food and good conversation.  My dad does this bizarre thing where he pretends to be all about THE GAME when Levi is around, which is particularly hilarious because neither one of them is a sports fan in the slightest.  But I guess somehow son-in-law in the house=amp up the stereotypical man stuff?

Friday I was here posting from my super-quiet office.  We are open but most people take a vacation day.  I'd rather save my time off to do something more worthwhile with it, so here I was. The two other people who came in had apparently been informed that Friday was a half day, too, but nobody told me. Oh well.  They left at noon and I left at 12:30.  There wasn't any real work to be done anyway.  Had a couple of friends over on the spur of the moment for dinner since I found myself with a bunch of extra time I hadn't anticipated.

Saturday FI helped a friend/former coworker with some home theater upgrades and I got the chance to get to know the guy's wife a bit better.  She's a lot of fun.  Also got to play with their 3-year-old, which was a blast.  She was joking that now I had 3-year-old fever, which is sort of true.  I don't particularly want kids, and I really don't like babies, but kids that age are just flippin' adorable!

Then I got a text from my mom telling me that my dad had gotten in a nasty accident on the farm and messed up his arm badly.  They originally thought it was a compound fracture, but it turned out that the reason his bone was sticking out is because he ripped all the muscles away for a 12 inch length. Completely terrifying.  It looks like he is going to be okay, and they think he will regain pretty close to full range of motion, but they are still keeping him in the hospital to guard against infection.  He will probably be released this afternoon.

Sunday was my fourth annual trip to the tree farm with FI.  I love this tradition so much!  I never got to have a real tree as a kid because my mom is allergic, and now that I am able I am completely obsessed!  We usually get a great big fat tree, but this year we invited over 100 people to our annual holiday party so we decided to go with a more compact specimen.  Then in the evening we finished building our Colombia album on shutterfly to take advantage of 50% off for Black Friday weekend.  We are both hobbyist photographers and we have decided to have a book printed for each major trip we take together.  It's kind of gross and mushy, but we can't wait to fill a shelf with our adventures and pull them out to reminisce when we are old.

Today is back to reality.  I have to call a billion clients I couldn't get ahold of last week because of the holiday, and I didn't sleep well so I am not looking forward to being Ms. High Energy Salesperson.

ETA: Holy shit @6fsn!  That's terrible!  My thoughts are with your H and everyone else in the area.

I remember those days!  Good luck.

She is getting big.  When her Bestie was over for the sleepover, they asked if they could watch Tangled.  I was sitting on the sofa with them, and FB popped up my "On This Day."  Four years before (almost to the minute), we had been watching Tangled with her at Disney World, where they set up the big inflatable screen outside at your resort.  She was DS's age, and the picture of Little Wooz and the reality of Big Wooz just about did me in.

You know how kids love to talk, NOLA, so I figure we're on borrowed time with Santa, and lucky to have made it this long.  Luckily, DS is now old enough to "get" Christmas, and he is so excited.  He's been asking about it since before Halloween. :)

  • @SaintPaulGal I'm glad your dad is going to be okay!

  • @MissKittyDanger Not necessarily. Just a hotel room for the night. I haven't slept through the night since July of last year and H hasn't slept a full night since February.
  • @DrillSergeantCat  oh jeez :( you both need sleep!!
