Re: Vent thread

  • Not so much of a vent as just an eyeroll worthy moment...my H has decided that Mouse has sleep apnea because he stops breathing for 3-4 seconds then twitches when he takes another breath. I shouldn't roll my eyes, though, he's a first time parent and freaks out easily. I just told him that we'll discuss it with the nurse next month when we take Mouse for his second dose of flu vaccine.
  • Same but we have to change our thermostat. We're likely going to next spring when we look into getting central air. Our bedroom is so cold :(
My house is an L shape with the bedrooms being in the front and the kitchen, living and dining at the back. The furnace is in the garage by the kitchen so the back half of the house gets hot in the winter while the front half stays cold. Neither of the bathrooms have vents in them either so forget a bath with the door shut.
That makes sense. I think our bedroom is cold because it's right above the garage.
We have vents in our bathroom and I'm debating on opening the master bathroom because if you take a bath, you're cold :( I was trying to conserve heating when I closed it
  • Our 6 month old washing machine was recalled.

We opted for the fix instead of cash toward a new machine.  They've rescheduled twice.  Our appointment was scheduled for tomorrow morning "they'll call the day before to confirm and give a time estimate."  It's getting late and no call.  I have to leave in 20 minutes and will be out of commission so opt to try call them.

Of course I don't have a contact number.  So I have to wait on hold for Samsung to retrieve that number.  It was 4 minutes of hoops and "hold times are currently up to 10 minutes use the website."  The website gives no info and immediately after getting through the hoop I get an agent.  She gives the number for the place....it's a California number.  I'm in OHio.

I call that place.  Hold 15 minutes to get an agent.  "You are confirmed between 8-5.  The technician will call tomorrow."  What time will he call?  by 10!  um, I'm supposed to have a morning appointment.

I really don't want to spend the day before we're leaving for thanksgiving stuck in the house.  I have 2 desserts, 2 apps, salsa, a veggie tray, and pumpkin muffins to make! grrrr
  • @6fsn Our washing machine was affected by the recall as well, and we opted to go with the fix. Right now they're scheduled to come on the 28th - fingers crossed that it goes more smoothly than yours, however I'm not holding out any hope.
  • And we does my husband act like putting our daughter's hair up is the hardest thing ever?  I pick them up at school at 3:50.  We have 40 minutes to get in the van, get across town, into church.  Get one kid to class, two the nursery, and me set up.  Usually my students are starting to arrive at 4:15 so really only 25 minutes until I need to not be frazzled.

He picks her up from there to go to gymnastics.  For some reason he can't seem to grab her hair in a pile and tie it up.  I'm not asking for French braids or a ballet bun.  Grab and secure.  He makes her take a hair tie so I can also take care of that in those 25 mins.
  • I know you all think political commercials are over.  But they aren't where I live, so I'm bringing the torture to you :).

I live in Louisiana.  We are weird in that we do "run-off" elections all the time.  Usually for governor and Senate seats.  First there is one election.  If one person wins by a large margin, they win.  But usually it narrows it down to the "top two".  Who then run off against each other in an election a few weeks later.

At any rate, there is still one Senate seat "up for grabs".  So the political commercials continue on.

In the most recent commercial for one of the candidates, he fires a shotgun in the air at the end of it.  Fires. A. Shotgun.  My jaw dropped when I first saw it.  Did that just really happen?  Seriously!?!?

For the record, although I tend to lean liberal, I'm fairly pro-gun.  I think shotguns are great both for hunting and, oddly enough, perfect for home defense.  But that doesn't mean I want to see one of my Senate candidates firing one in his ad.  So odd and inappropriate!

And then people wonder why the rest of the country views us as redneck bubbas.  All it needed was an endorsement from our own David Duke to top it off with a Confederate flag themed bow.

Oh goodness, you should see Alaska campaign ads! We love our guns here! Even the democrats support guns. In the 2014 election for House of Reps, the democratic candidate fired an AR-15-style weapon at some piece of legislation. I think it was the ACA. He didn't win (he did fairly well, but the republican rep, Don Young has been there for over four decades. He'll be there until he dies.)

State house and state senate ads can be quite hilarious sometimes.

They can be, lol, but I should have specified.  He is running for the U.S. Senate, not the state senate.  Yes, we even do run-off elections for Congressional positions.

I can well understand why Alaska is pro-guns.  They should be.  A lot of wilderness and guns are needed for both hunting and protection.  Protection from wildlife!  Not just intruders.

But still eye-rolling in a political ad.  And a democrat at that.  Tsk. Tsk.

The guy who I was talking about was going for u.s. House, not state. But usually the national ones are tamer.

It was the budget, not the ACA, and it was a shotgun, not an AR. It's been a couple years since I've seen it.

It was Joe Miller, a tea party candidate for senate, who did the ACA with two different guns. And Dan Sullivan (who won and is now one of our two senators) shot up a TV with a handgun.

Links to to all of those are in this article if you care to watch. The democrat is the first one.

  • The amount of promotional emails because we are almost to Black Friday is getting pretty obnoxious.    They mostly go to my junk mail, but I can't help opening some of them.   Victoria - yes, I'm looking at you and your 50% of sport bras I love, but really do not need another.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • After having my 5th kid in January, I had my tubes tied in March.  No more babies!  Well, my period is 9 days late this month. I so desperately don't want to be pregnant, so I'm hiding out in the land of denial until after thanksgiving.  I know it's unlikely, but I'm still freaked.  Each of my other kids were conceived while on some form of birth control, including depo (1st) and mirena (4th), so clearly my uterus doesn't give a fuck what I think

Pregnant and pissed.  Not only can we hardly afford a 6th kid, my uterus is so fucked up from the last 2 pregnancies that I'll likely spend the majority on bedrest again.  (haven't seen a doctor yet, just basing the bedrest thought over how the last 2 went)  I feeling like spending all week in bed sobbing and eating ice cream.

Oh man :(.  That just sounds crazy after having your tubes tied.  How does that happen after a procedure like that?  I know I'm preaching to the choir.  So sorry!  Hopefully the pregnancy will at least go more smoothly than the last two.

Woah that's crazy, I'm sorry your pissed (and pregnant and not happy about it). I think ice cream is definitely what you need.

I am 100% in the middle of the anger phase.  I keep asking (yelling) "how could thing happen?".  I want to call my old doctor in Bismarck and scream at him for screwing up (i won't), I want to rip out my uterus and beat someone with it, and I hate everything right now.

I'll move on to acceptance in a week or two, but right now I'm not fit to be around people.

  • @ThisShamanluvsaMage any chances of suing for medical malpractice?

@redwoodoriginal I hate all the commercialism of Christmas, too, but I still love buying gifts for people.

@kimmiinthemitten my father died in May 2002, his birthday would have been exactly one month later, Father's Day was 5 days after his birthday. I chose to get my H a gift and that was the extent of our celebration. He understood and was fine with not going to the party at his parent's. His sister, however, called and berated me for not going. She felt that because she got over the death of her estranged father in time for FD that I should have gotten over the death of my favorite person ever in time. Some people's kids...

  • Wow.  Hugs to everyone, and especially @ThisShamanluvsaMage.

OMG!  That sucks.  Cry it all out and eat all the ice cream.

And I agree about looking into your options to sue for medical malpractice...seriously.
  • Sooo....my new (used) car has been back at the dealership for over a week now.  We noticed some major steering issues on our road trip a week and a half ago, so we called them and dropped it off a week ago Sunday.  They don't know what's wrong, but they're also not.fucking.calling.us.  We've had to call them.  I really want them to fix it (under warranty), but if they can't...they need to cancel the sale/find me a different Outback for a similar price.

They tried to offer for us to take it back before TG, but we have a 3rd car and said they could keep it.  I am sick of driving a Civic.  I want my wagon back...BUT I may be driving the clown car for awhile if we have to return the car and they don't have another good option.

I will say that DH, nor I, are really stressed about this since we do have the 3rd car.  It's just annoying that this is going on a week and a half of them not having answers and seemingly avoiding us.  I know the service manager is going to bat for us with sales, but he said they're being 'quiet' (when he talked to DH, like a week ago).

That totally sucks.  I'm sorry.  I keep meaning to ask you how much you love the new car, but I guess this answers that.  :(
