My health insurance sucks. I have a new BC prescription and this is the first time I've had it filled on the new insurance. I've had other meds filled and insurance has covered them at full or nearly full cost, so I assumed BC would be great same. Nope. They don't cover it in any local pharmacies. Any type of BC in any brick and mortar pharmacy. So I have to go back/call back my doctor see if they'll write me a new prescription that I have to mail in to the prescription company and they'll cover it that way.

Only mail order, zero in person coverage. So instead of using my pharmacy I like, with the pharmacist I know, I have to have it go through a mail order service. Awesome, thanks Ohio. And I had to pay full price for the pack I picked up because it takes the mail order service 7-10 days to process the prescription once they receive it. That's some bullshit. The rep I talked to told me she had never seen a plan that excluded all type she of birth control at in person pharmacies before.

That is total BS!!!!!!!!!! I've never heard of anything like that before. I would be so pissed!
Apparently neither had I, or the prescription plan rep who said she'd never seen a plan like this before. I'm super pissed. Like, way to make it so much more difficult to get birth control.
I'm only making assumptions here, so I could be wrong, but most likely the mail order requirement is part of the plan as a way to help people be more compliant with their medication, particularly maintenance medications. The theory is that people tend to forget to call ahead before they need refills and end up going without for a day or two, or they have trouble getting to a pharmacy. Also, a lot of medications are only filled in monthly increments at retail locations, and mail order typically allows for 3 months worth of fills (from my experience). Granted, I've never seen it be applied to birth control before but if helping members be more compliant with medication, and you certainly don't want to miss any BC pills, that could be why you have to get it filled by mail order. I work for health insurance broker and we're starting to see more companies make maintenance prescriptions mandatory mail order fills because if people are taking their drugs, it keeps them healthy and it keeps costs down for everyone (less chance of a larger health event in the future if people keep taking their medications). I could be totally wrong but that's my theory. Not that it doesn't sound like a giant pain in the ass to get it set up, particularly when you aren't expecting it.
  • @MissKittyDanger I agree with Ro041 on the thicker mat. I have a thin one and I ended up having to buy a thick one because yoga and pilates hurt soooo bad on a hard floor.

I'm sure that's part of it, but she went through the plan info. and that's the only maintenance medication that can't also be filled at local pharmacies. The others are more expensive at brick and mortars, but are at least partially covered. BC isn't covered at all when done through locals, so for some reason BC is still treated differently than other maintenance meds.
  • @charlotte989875  That is bizarre. It would make sense if it was all maintenance and they lumped in BC with it, but I have never seen it where BC was the only Rx that had to be filled through mail order.

  • @Ro041 Definitely watch This Is Us! Start at the beginning, though. It's so good.
and never assume you know how it'll end! They're fave thing is plot twists! :)
I think that's one of my favorite things about the show.  I'm not interested in the ending, or guessing the ending, or thinking I know what's coming.  I am interested in the story, and since there's no real driven plot, it's a plain old story that's told week-to-week with no real end game, it's that much easier to get lost in.  I feel like that's an art that is dying across TV (and film and literature, TBH.  Maybe I read too much, but I'm finding it easier and easier to guess the plot twists).  There's too much structure in TV anymore, and that's one of the things I love so much about "This is Us."  No structure.  Just people in a story.

Yah that's what the rep said too, that if all maintenance meds were not covered in brick and mortars it would make sense;  she thought it was really strange.

I completely agree! I like to try and guess the ending in things, but my favourite thing is when you think you get it and it's completely off.

It definitely is a dying art, but I feel like that's what makes shows like "This is Us" so great.

Side note: watch "Now You See Me" - it's magician based and has a lot of neat twists and turns.
  • @charlotte989875 I think the episodes are up on the NBC website, and I'm pretty sure they're on Hulu also!

  • @Ro041 Definitely watch This Is Us! Start at the beginning, though. It's so good.
My MIL keeps asking me if I've started watching it yet. Are the past episodes available to stream anywhere?
I just checked OnDemand (we have Uverse) and they have all the episodes available.

FI has a late night tonight, so I might have to binge a little.

  • I watch This Is Us and love it.  I was hooked by the first episode!  I think I'm an episode behind.  DH doesn't like it so I have to find a time to watch alone.

Yesterday we had about 10" of heavy, wet snow.  I had PTO so was glad I didn't have to get to work.  I made cookies, made good headway clearing out the dvr and dug our second car out of the snow.  Back at work today and SSDD.

Goodness!  So many positive reviews for "This is Us".  You all convinced me, I'll have to check it out also.

I think there was a discussion on Chit Chat about this show awhile back and also a lot of good reviews.  Though obviously some will be duplicates, lol.

This is so true.  Someone was asking me what it was about and I said, "A family."  They asked what happened.  I said, "Family stuff.  There's not really a plot line."

I do love the way they weave the timeline.  Mandy Moore is fantastic, I adore her character in this.  And I really like it when they bring in the little side stories.  The doctor's story last week really touched me.

Yes all of our maintenance scripts have to be for 3 month fills. We don't have to use mail order anymore but we did a few years ago.

  • Kitty is feeling much better today! I had to take her in yesterday to get an anti-inflammatory shot to help with the reaction she had to the vaccine. Poor thing was breaking my heart. She's doing so much better now and she's been cuddly and purring like normal.

Today is cleaning house and homework day. I'm trying not to freeze to death (exaggeration) because SO is freaked out about the cost of electricity and we've had the heat turned off in the house for days. It's fucking 58 degrees in here. I might just turn it up to 65 so I don't die.

  • Just got off the phone with the admissions office. I suspected that reenrolling would be more difficult than applying for the first time, and I was right. They've changed some of the application processes and require some documents that weren't required before.

I sent DH a text that said "just called the university. I'm going to have to jump through a lot of hoops to reenroll"

His response: "better get to jumping"

Boy do I ever love that man. He'll never let me settle for anything less than what I'm meant to do.
A tip from someone who works in a university? Write everything down. Who you spoke with, when you spoke to them, what did they tell you? And then follow up with an email confirming everything you understood them to say. Not saying that they aren't telling you the right things, its just that so often different people interpret policies in different ways, it's best to detail everything as much as possible.

    Also, your H sounds fantastic.

That I would understand. But it's only for BC. Other maintenance scripts can be filled at the pharmacy.

I'm having a hard time not thinking that it's because it's birth control.

He really really is fantastic :) and thank you so much for the tip! The girl I talked to sent me an email with everything we went over and it has her contact information in it as well. I'll definitely make it a habit to write everything down.

    It's a quiet day here.

My boss is getting ready to leave for Mexico early next week, and I'm not sure you could pick a worse time to go.  Maybe 1846.  He just put in a request for iPods to give away, and our marketing coordinator and I were joking that he's going to need them to bribe his way in or out, depending.

My weight loss has plateaued, which is probably only temporary, but it's a little disappointing.  I worked out the past three days in a row at lunch, and today I kicked the resistance up, so maybe that will help.  Regardless, I've noticed a difference in how I feel (and how my pants fit!), so that's something.

ETA: This month's Stitch Fix is out for delivery, so it should be waiting for me when I get home.  Yay!

Oh I agree with you! I was just confirming that sometimes ALL maintenance scripts have to be 3 months. I just wasn't clear in my post.

I love "This Is Us" too!!  I tear up at least once an episode.  It fills the "Parenthood" size hole in my heart (which makes sense, since it's created by the guy who did "Parenthood".)
Maybe it's because H and I have been talking more and more seriously about having kids, but I have full on ugly cried during every episode at some point. All the feels.
  • I binged on This Is Us over Christmas break and got hooked. DK hasn't shown any interest, so I've been watching it on my own.

DK gets home tomorrow night, and I'm super excited to see him. I planned a date night for Saturday so we can get some one-on-one time to hang out.
  • let's see:

    - I'm thinking of taking DH to Hawaii next Feb for DH's 45th (along with friends and family who want to go)!  I am taking in all the tips and suggestions with you, @atomicblonde, because Hawaii seems up my alley.  We're thinking either Hawaii, Punta Canta or another Caribbean cruise if it's not on carnival.  I guess it's his bday, he gets to decide.

We went to Hawaii for our 10th in October.  We did 2 nights in Honolulu and then 5 nights in Maui.

Honolulu is good for Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head (go early because it gets friggin' hot hiking that thing in the midday sun).  After that, get out of dodge and go to another island.

We loved Maui.  We stayed in up country for a night and then down in Wailea.  Wailea is the 'rich' area of the island, but is adjacent to Kihei and you can find reasonable food there.  We went up to Lahaina for a luau and it was also a nice area of the island.  I'd recommend staying in Wailea or Lahaina.

My parents did the big island and loved it.  Kauai is definitely the most low-key island...Tons of nature and not a lot of 'touristy' stuff.
  • Congratulations, @DrillSergeantCat!!!!  I was thinking about you yesterday. She's beautiful (like her mom)!  I'm so sorry to hear about the challenges, but I am glad you're both healthy and safe!

  • @DrillSergeantCat Holy Shit! Delivered in the car? Glad everything worked out ok and that y'all are doing well. You both look beautiful. Congratulations.
  • Wow @DrillSergeantCat in the car?? She's beautiful! Hope you're both doing well!
