Wedding Woes

Thursday

Hi all!  Happy Thursday.  The weekend is almost in sight.

My guy from China is arriving in a little over an hour, so I'll be tied up with him all day.  Super sad that I'll miss out on the Prudie fun.

I'm going to vent briefly, while wearing my judgy pants.  Wooz's school does a second grade musical every year.  Cool.  They've been practicing during music class, and Wooz is enjoying it.

The music teacher is a little...intense for my taste.  She has sent three lengthy emails so far: one on the critical importance of getting your kid to the musical; one about downloading the songs and lyric sheets so they can practice at home (oops); and one just last night, with a reminder about the musical, why it's so crucial, and a whole lotta info I didn't need about why kids who are not participating can't possibly be allowed to participate in rehearsals during music class, what they do instead, why it's so confusing for Braxton to rehearse next to McKenzeeee if McKenzeeee doesn't make it to the actual performance, etc.

Y'all.  It's the second grade musical.  It's not that I don't care.  I know that teaching music is her job.  But this seems like a borderline obsessive approach, when a) it's going to be bad, because it's a second grade musical, and b) the parents won't care, because we expect it to be bad, and we'll be charmed regardless.

This is the same music teacher who couldn't even get through her speech at the end of Willy Wonka Jr. without crying.  I don't even know why she was making a speech, she could have just thanked everyone, let the kids take their bows, and been done.  Also, I have a sensitive kid, so I kind of get it, but it was Willy Wonka Jr., not a Lifetime Achievement Tony.

[removes judgy pants, hopefully puts on normal pants]

Re: Thursday

  • Three emails for a second grade musical? Three?? Yah I'd be judging that just a bit.

Worked late last night so I'm slow to get started today. I have to be in the office even though I'm not teaching so I have little motivation to actually get up and go there. Maybe after a second cup of coffee.

Im going out Saturday morning to see the baby! They were able to go home yesterday so they're settling in. The doctors said she's eating/reacting/all the things like a full term baby even though she was so early. I can't wait to see her!

    Yay for Prudie Day!
  • I have a vendor on my tail and I'm so tired of his calls. I haven't called you back - slow your roll. Unfortunately I can't just blow him off since he got to me through a coworker via a client, so it is a relationship type thing. But honestly what he wants to talk about I don't really care about as some of the ACA is up in the air and I don't feel like dealing with his product for something that might be going away and/or changing.

I'm stress eating like crazy and it's bad. Pretty sure I'm going to put all of the baby weight back on at this point!

@Heffalump - three emails is a lot for anything music related at that age.

Today I am excited.  I am working from home and at noon I am going to pick up a Boston to foster/maybe adopt.  We lost my (favorite) Boston in November last year and I was just telling Current Boston that we are ready for another one.  Then BAM I got a call that one is needing a home because its owner died.  I am like a kid on Christmas right now.

The jeweler promised to call today with info about whether my ring is being overnighted from Verragio today.  Fingers crossed for good news.

  • @Heffalump  that's too much hassle for a musical ... jeez they're 2nd grade!

@charlotte989875  yay coffee and baby! :)

@kvruns  can you tell him that you're busy and can't talk now or that you'll call him back {much} later?

Not much last night. I was so cold so I hopped in the shower. Got a load of laundry done, dishes cleaned and vacuumed a bit of main floor. Plus we dealt with recycling. Which didn't get taken today because they aren't fucking consistent with what time they come, so M missed it while dropping me off. I have never seen them come before 9am! Wtf! I'm so irked ... we have so much! Should have just done it last night ... *sigh*

I was getting better, so didn't see clinic last weekend but I think I'm gonna go Saturday. I'm feeling better but I can still feel pressure on my right side, so I'm still wondering about an infection.
We'll see what happens. Might just be blockage or something.

    Side note; I've been up at 6am for this week because my right side decides to leak a bit, then it's like a waterfalls and I have to defy TLC and chase it {you know ... don't go chasing waterfalls .... no? Okay.}

This is at least 15mins before alarm goes off, and once I blow my nose the cats want food so I don't even bother going back to bed. At least a lot gets done!
  • @MissKittyDanger that's what I did. I had replied to an email saying hey I'm just back from maternity leave and catching up. Said I would look into the product but it wasn't a priority right now since the reporting may be changing/going away but I would reach out with any questions. I get that he's in sales and they want to try to hook you but it is turning me off because I feel like I already told him it wasn't a priority for me.
  • Holy shit, y'all. There must be some kind of crazy shit in the water up here because my friend who is due in mid-June just texted me that this morning her boss told her she wanted to hurt her because of a mistake my friend made yesterday. My friend's company has no HR department, but I told her she needs to report that woman to someone high up.

Then one of my coworkers just had to leave the office to go to the doctor because she's had a rash for over 24 hours that started on her abdomen and has been rapidly spreading to her scalp.

And a couple of my other coworkers and I just had a round of major sneeze attacks.

  • My H got a promotion last year that was supposed to mean more time at home, but that hasn't been happening. Last week, he went to talk to his boss about his lack of help and was promised a full-time employee. They were starting to get caught up on things this week, but yesterday the boss that just last week promised the full time guy, came and pulled the FT guy to another department. H didn't get home until 9:40 last night. He's so upset that he's talking about leaving. I just don't know what it's going to take for his boss to realize he's serious. If H leaves, they're screwed, but I don't want him to have to threaten to leave to get what he needs.

My good friend that I've talked about here was dumped by her husband, lost her job, moved her pregnant daughter in with her, sent her son to a mental facility, and found out her mom has cancer all within the last two weeks. She's constantly at the end of her rope because she has all these people relying on her and then bitching about it when she doesn't bend over backwards with a smile on her face. Yesterday, she gave her daughter to go get her nails done then her daughter bitched that she wasn't being nice enough. I just want to go bang their heads together (her two kids that is).

It's about time for me to get serious about job hunting. I just don't want to leave here before April 30th or I lose about $10,000 in my 401K. I need more money, though.

Norah wore a 0-3 month outfit today! Mouse only wore newborn clothes for about 3 days, she's made it weeks. Looks like I'm going to have to go shopping. Darn.
  • Good Morning!   3 Emails about the importance of a second grade musical?  Ohhhh boy.

Without going into TMI, I've been dealing with some annoying post-childbirth issues that I thought would just go away but finally decided that today I'd call the doctor and see if there's any chance that I can get back the body I had 7 years ago.  I don't care about my form but I do care about function.   Ugh.

Every morning I drop the kiddos off at the same daycare.   Chiquita takes the bus from the daycare and busses back there.   I found out today that this week the school bus company has been running ROYALLY late (like a half hour or more ) every day this week.   We've also had a cold snap this week that rivals early February temperatures (wind chills in the teens today!) so it's annoying the Mama Bear in me.  FFS, if you know your team is running late you have the technology to call the businesses that use you and to put out a message over social media.

Mildly funny: I walked into Chiquito's room this morning to see him humping his blanket.   He yelled at me to go away.  Kiddo is 2 and a half.
  • @sparklepants41  Labour board! Idk what the states have, but that shit is labour board material. Scary! :\
  • I'm here!  I've been slow to want to do anything this morning.  Plus, we've heard no news on DH's step-grandpa...so I guess Saturday will be party day for DefConn's bday.   So now I'm having to scramble to get my house in order to have a party.  And because I have over half the ingredients, we're doing a taco bar.  Plus, I have to get the kiddo to clean his room for guests.  It's going to be a huge pain in my ass to prod him to get it to a 'not embarrassing' level.  Ugh.

Anyhoo, Prudie is on the way.
  • So, I think my ex-DH is abandoning our dogs (they went to my parents in the divorce and we have alternating weekends of visitation).  Which, TBH, I'm not surprised about.  He hasn't seen them in over a month b/c he hasn't made the effort to.  However, through the grape vine, I've been told that new GF has said they're getting a new dog.  And for some reason that really hurts.  So, screw him.  I'll continue loving up my dogs that are perfect in every way.

Nurses make the worst patients.  Seriously, if K ever has to undergo more serious surgery than her wisdom teeth removal, I might have to farm out her care.  We'll get through it.  She's not very swollen, so that's good.  Her jaw hurting is the main problem.

I need a vacation.  I'm trying to decide if I should give in to the wanderlust and run off this weekend or if I should hibernate at home.  It's supposed to rain all weekend too.
  • @sparklepants41 WHAT?! that is insane!!!! She definitely needs to report that to someone higher if she can.

@DrillSergeantCat oh gosh I feel so bad for your friend. That is an awful hand to be dealt.

@banana468 I hope you're able to get everything worked out with the doctor! Also, super hilarious about Chiquito.

@missJeanLouise T&P's for safe travels for DDog!! I'm sure you guys will be thrilled to have him with you again!

  • @thefanciestbeckler, I told DH that I felt like this morning was a glimpse into his teens.
  • @Heffalump On the bright side, she cares! But 3 emails is so tedious, goodness gracious.

A few months ago, I found out my degree and license in accounting is practically useless where FI lives (and I'm planning to move). Today I got accepted into a chartered accountancy program there and I'm grateful. But it's an additional 3 years and that irritates me. I feel like the tears I put in here are useless.
  • @DrillSergeantCat, that is horrible about your friend. I hope things look up for her soon.  Hopefully DH can talk some sense into your boss.  Sounds like he wants to stay despite that?
@heffalump, that does sound like a bit much.  I'm sure it'll be cute though!

I'm have a 1st world problem kinda day.  Someone from our company is retiring, so we're going to an elite seafood/steak house tonight to say goodbye. I don't eat steak or seafood.  They do have 1 chicken option and 1 burger option, so I WILL be eating, don't you worry about that - but take me to T.G.I. Friday's or Chili's where i can go to town on the food there :)

  • @banana468 that's exactly what I was thinking! Lol!

thanks for the glimpse in what I have to look forward to. Although B is just 4 months so hopefully I have a while lol

We are the same person.  I can take down so many apps at these places, it would gross out the average person.  (I also dislike spending $30 at a fancy restaurant at lunch.  If I am spending that much, liquor better be involved!)

@banana468 - that story is WAY MORE than mildly funny.  I clutched my pearls at that little situation!  Oh my!

  • @banana468  I honestly don't know what I'd do if I caught my kid doing that lmfao
  • @Heffalump, Wooz's music teacher is reminding me of Mr. Garrison on South Park.  I think it was a play about dental hygiene.  He's super intense and screams at kindergartners about their performance, lol.  At least your all's teacher is just annoying the parents.

@charlotte989875, I'm glad your niece is hitting all her benchmarks, despite being born early.  Yay baby time on Sat.!

@kvruns, sales people who don't listen to what their customers want...even when that includes more time to think...are super irritating.

Sorry for the tangent!  Reminds me of a crazy story about the worst salesman ever.  When my H and I first evacuated to Miami after Hurricane Katrina, we were looking for a short term, furnished rental.  I contacted a real estate agent who specifically advertised for that.  Yet, all he ever wanted to talk to me about was why this was a perfect time to buy a condo in a South Beach new development.  As in, they were still building the building and I STILL wouldn't have had anywhere to leave, even if I had the remotest interest in buying a condo  and living in Miami permanently.  Which I didn't.  Every time I talked to him it was that weird feeling of "Are we living in alternate realities?  Have the words I've been using changed their meaning with no one telling me?"

Me (for the 10th time):  I'm only looking for a short-term rental.  I literally don't even know what I own because we don't know yet what happened to our place in NOLA.  We'll definitely be here 3 months, but it could be longer.  Preferably furnished.

Him:  At no time even acknowledges one word I just said.  Responds with something like, "It's just this is such an amazing opportunity.  I can get you in on the ground floor.  Prospective units are selling for 25-30% less right now than what they will be when the building is finished."

I wish I'd had the fortune telling abilities to say, "No thanks.  I'll just wait 3 years and buy them for 50% off when the bottom drops on Miami real estate and prices free fall."

@sparklepants41, that's crazy for your friend!  I thought I'd had some bad bosses.  I like my current boss and think he does a good job, overall.  But his big shortcoming is a short temper and he will scream at people when he's mad.  Like he's doing right now down the hall (sigh).  I've never been the recipient of one of the those tantrums and I really hope I never am.

@DrillSergeantCat, your poor H!  You were talking about those same issues in (I think) December.  They're not going to change because they know they don't have to.  It's disgusting when company's don't give their employees a proper work-life balance.  Good luck on new jobs in the future for both of you!  I'm so sorry for your friend.  I hope things start turning around for her really soon.  Little Norah getting bigger!  So cute!!

  • @thefanciestbeckler & @short+sassy - I told her she needs to report her boss. Her boss has said shitty things repeatedly before, but nothing as serious as threatening bodily harm. Part of the problem is that my friend is typically not one to want to ruffle feathers, so she has just been shrugging off her boss' previous unprofessional behavior, and I fear she is going to do the same with today's escalation.
  • @DrillSergeantCat  that poor lady, her kids are dicks!! You're right, your H shouldn't threaten leaving in order to get what he wants. That's not fair.
And oh darn, shopping for baby clothes ;)

@short+sassy  Babies!!!! I am dying over the snark face of Nip! :') Haha mid-lick faces are always great ;) Your babies are adorable

Thanks!  Nip definitely has her snark moments, especially with Izzy, lol.  Izzy might be twice as big, but she knows who's boss and minds her P's and Q's around the cat.

My concern is that it would actually escalate to physical harm at some point. I probably watch too much crime TV. I just don't trust people who say things like that.

So true.  Sure, people say things in anger that they don't mean.  Though I'm not excusing that.  But most people show more restraint at work than they do in other situations.  The fact that your friend's boss didn't is definitely a lack of control and that's concerning.  A hostile work environment can sometimes be a gray issue.  But threatening physical harm puts that square into the "hostile" category.

When I first started at my current job, there were two employees who had cubicles next to each other and they disliked each other.  Guy A played his music too loud and Guy B didn't like it.  Guy B would vape in the office and Guy A didn't like that.  One day, they were in a verbal fight and Guy A said something about "he better not ever catch him outside the office or he'd beat him up".  Something like that.  He was fired the next day.  THAT'S how it should work!
