Wedding Woes

Tuesday!

Hello!

We are 40% through with the work week! Although I have Friday off, so I am 50% through with the work week!

I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I found the "sweet spot" with my Snoogle and was extremely comfy when my alarm went off. But the morning is flying by and I am running a meeting that our CEO will be in this afternoon - I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts on my strategy for the presentation we have been preparing for the past few weeks.

Quesadillas for lunch downstairs, but all I want is a cupcake with cream cheese frosting.

Re: Tuesday!

  • @MissKittyDanger be prepared to cry at the movie tonight. Let me know how you like Method. I love them.
  • @MissKittyDanger last year we celebrated our cotton anniversary. The resort where we got married is right on a little harbor so I got him a nautical chart of that harbor printed on canvas, and it's hanging in our living room. Perhaps you could get him a canvas wrapped photo?
  • @southernbelle0915  Right!? We wanted to make the tradition of getting cupcakes from the same place we had our cake/cupcakes from, but I'm not sure if we will this year

@DrillSergeantCat  Noted. I will bring tissues. I did a sniff test .... damn it does smell like almond!

    @sparklepants41  I debated on that! We didn't write our vows, but I saw on Etsy there is canvas you can have a photo with words. One of my fave pictures is us dancing, and I could put our wedding song on it. { "I'll Follow You" by Shinedown fyi :) M picked it because I chose aisle song}
  • @MissKittyDanger - that's a really good idea. Low maintenance, easy. You could do it without a ton of planning....haha that's my kind of gift! ;)

  • @kvruns  My back up plan for his bday {which is 2 weeks before our anniversary lol} is a shirt lol Unless I did a mug for his bday and shirt for anniversary ... hmmm
We've never been super romantic, so that I'm not bothered with - I'm just stuck on ideas lmao!
  • @NiceKindaSpice I sooooo wish it worked like that.
  • The irony.  Normally the temperature in my office is very comfortable.  Except in the summertime.  Then my office is FREEZING, because they turn up the a/c big time.  It's a 95+ degree sauna outside.  But inside, I'm wearing a jacket, lol.

We got a frantic text last night from the tenant we are evicting.  Although he didn't specifically say this...let me guess...he must have been served yesterday.  On the potentially bright side, "bright side" being a relative term, he said he'll move out by July 8th (court date is July 10th) and allow us to immediately start showings to find our next tenant.  His goal in this is so we will stop the eviction proceedings.

We made it very clear that OBVIOUSLY we're not stopping the eviction until he has turned the unit back over to us.  So, if he doesn't want an eviction on his record, that ball is now entirely in his court (no pun intended).  The fees I've already paid are non-refundable and I can technically cancel the eviction hearing up until "one minute" before our time to appear.

  • Belated Eid Mubarak @NiceKindaSpice!

@MissKittyDanger I love the canvas idea!

SSDD here!  Most likely sneaking away to Chicago for an impromptu girls trip this weekend so I'm excited about that!  There are still nice hotels in River North for $200/night!

My friend I talked about last week got to go home over the weekend:).  I organized our sorority sisters to help raise some money, and yesterday I bought too small of a card for all of our names so I need to buy a new one and I'm bummed.  This card was perfect.  It reads:  "You're really, really, really great and you don't deserve to be going through any of this crap."  Back to the generic greeting card section for me!

  • This week is weird, work-wise. I need to drive to one of our plants for a meeting on Thursday afternoon. They are taking us out for a team dinner afterwards, which is nice, but it's also a ~2 hour drive back to my house. I decided it was just easier to get a room at a local hotel and drive back on Friday am/early afternoon. They look like they have a lot open, so maybe i'll get an upgrade.
  • Today is a study day. I've been so tired this week that I just want to sleep all day and since I've been off work I've been sleeping in too. Now I'm scared for Friday when I have to get up extra early. Guess I'll need extra coffee. Other than that...SSDD. It's supposed to be "cooler" these next few days, i.e. in the 90's instead of the 100s. I was starting to feel like I had hermetically sealed myself inside the house. I even put off running errands.

  • I'm so tired of dealing with redneck, hick, bigoted, assholes all day. This driver was on hold on the phone with her insurance agent and asked our salesman, "Isn't he Iranian? Well...some kind of camel?" UGH! I was sitting here wishing he'd heard her when he picked up the phone and "accidentally" lost her stuff.
  • More interview prep, housework, but planning restaurants with my sister for this weekend! I also have no idea what I'm wearing to the wedding this weekend. It's a Sunday evening wedding at a venue I'm not familiar with.

    How rude!!
  • I finally feel like I have recovered from wedding weekend.  I took all of our empties to the bottle depot this morning, and dropped my dress off at the dry cleaner.

I've rounded up some of the stuff we bought (and didn't use) that can be taken back.  Just trying to muster up the ambition to go to Costco for that.

Started working on Thank You cards.

@DrillSergeantCat Sadly that sounds like a good portion of my relatives.  Apparently my dad started talking to my good friend at the wedding about how "The Muslims are coming and women are going to have to sit in the back seat".  I just hope he only said that kind of shit to her, and nobody else.  Ugh.  Sorry you have to deal with those types all the time.

Ugh, yes!  It's at least not an everyday occurrence for me.

But I used to have a "stalker" at Harrahs Casino.  I don't know what this guy did for a living that he apparently spent every night at the casino...though not doing much gambling.  However, almost every time I was there, invariably he'd swing by and sit next to me to talk.  And half the time it was just rants about Muslims, various nationalities, and various races.  He didn't discriminate much in that respect, lol.  Everybody was his target.  Though he never disparaged African Americans.

I don't know why I was often his conversational victim because, even though he was an acquaintance at best (even that is stretching it), that wouldn't stop me from calling him out on his b.s.  Never in an argument.  I just constantly and calmly said stuff like, "I've told you not to talk to me about (insert race/national origin/religion).  It really offends me."

Then one day, and I don't know why this makes me laugh because it is still terrible.  But he made up a stereotype I'd never heard.  The conversation started with, "You know how Chinese are so cheap?"  I had to bite my lip to keep from bursting out in laughter.  Like when a toddler does something bad, but it's so odd and random that you just want to laugh, but can't laugh because you don't want to encourage.

I think I said something like, "I have to admit you caught me with that one!  I have actually never heard that stereotype.  But, like any stereotype, it's a very unfair thing to say.  People are individuals."  Apparently he had loaned money to a friend of Chinese origin, who was welching not paying back the loan.  So, okay dude, than YOUR FRIEND is cheap (cue eyeroll).

  • @short+sassy It's not every day, but it's extremely often. BTW - did you know that the term welching is based on Welsh as in people from Wales? That's one of those terms that lots of people use without knowing it's a stereotypical term. Gypped is another one; it refers to gypsies.

Thanks for the correction ;).  Obviously I don't want to be inadvertently disparaging a group of people in MY post about why it is wrong to disparage groups of people.

It's only been in the last few years I'd heard that "gypped" is a disparaging word for gypsies.  As such, I've tried to erase it from my vocabulary.  I will now do the same thing with "welch".

It's hard though when you are used to using those words.  I have to mentally remind myself every time a word like that pops in my head.  I'm not complaining, it's worth the effort to not use offensive words.  It's just tough to get that programming out, lol.

  • Good to see you, @NiceKindaSpice!

Second day back is going well so far. No major issues except for fixing what my coworker screwed up while I was out.

I have a jury duty summons for next week, and I need to postpone because I don't want to be out two weeks so close together. I just called, and the jury commission's system is down. Going to have to try again tomorrow.

Tonight's project is moving our chest of drawers out of the spare room into our bedroom. That's going to be fun, because our bedroom is tiny. We're going to have to do some major rearranging.

I don't think I've ever heard "welching/welched" before, or if I did I don't think I would know what it meant

It basically means not living up to an agreement/promise made.  It's usually in reference to money, ie loans and/or bills.  But doesn't have to be and it would still make sense.
