Hello!
We are 40% through with the work week! Although I have Friday off, so I am 50% through with the work week!
I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I found the "sweet spot" with my Snoogle and was extremely comfy when my alarm went off. But the morning is flying by and I am running a meeting that our CEO will be in this afternoon - I'm looking forward to hearing his thoughts on my strategy for the presentation we have been preparing for the past few weeks.
Quesadillas for lunch downstairs, but all I want is a cupcake with cream cheese frosting.
Re: Tuesday!
This morning I've been going through paperwork on my desk and starting to hunt for M's anniversary gift. His bday I may split something with my mum, but I have a back up plan.
2 years on August 1st.
I have no idea what to get him. I know it's cotton, but he doesn't need another shirt until he finishes going through his shirts.
Socks that say "sole mate" ?
I'm stuck lol
I did tell him we should do something different for our anniversary. It's a Tuesday, so idk if we wanna do dinner. Plus we have years to go to do fancy dinner. Why not do something different?
There's a place that does fancy sundae's, so we may do that. Not sure yet.
Tonight is "Wonder Woman" and I can almost guarantee I'll have a headache by end of night because it's 3D - my eyes hate that, but maybe won't be horrible if we sit further back?
Wednesday night we're starting to move and clear stuff up. Probably start with backyard since it's easier.
M was saying he'll likely be going fishing on Sunday, so I think I may mop the floor since it'll be after people have been traipsing around my damn house *sigh*
I got the method products, so we'll see how it is. Cheaper than Murphy's so I'm hoping it works and I didn't just waste my money ....
I am still waiting to hear back from the job I interviewed for Friday before last. I called last Friday and asked if they'd made a decision and was told they had more applicants they were going to interview. I'm just so frustrated. It shouldn't be this hard to find a good paying job in my field, but companies are wanting to start staff accountants at $35,000/year and that's less than I make now. I guess I need to buckle down and get my CPA.
@MissKittyDanger - why are anniversary gifts so hard? We kind of stopped doing them. I still make him a mini wedding cake every year, so that's just going to have to do as our "thing".
We are going out of town this weekend through next week and I'm feeling incredibly unprepared. The house is a shit hole. Nobody is packed. My cousin (who we're supposed to stay with) is the world's worst communicator. Gahh!! I'm making a big checklist and my goal today is to knock it out. And work of course. Mama gotta pay the bills!
@DrillSergeantCat Noted. I will bring tissues. I did a sniff test .... damn it does smell like almond!
@sparklepants41 I debated on that! We didn't write our vows, but I saw on Etsy there is canvas you can have a photo with words. One of my fave pictures is us dancing, and I could put our wedding song on it. { "I'll Follow You" by Shinedown fyi
He contacted the bakery that did our wedding cupcakes and had her make Cotton candy cupcakes for the cotton theme.
We've never been super romantic, so that I'm not bothered with - I'm just stuck on ideas lmao!
@sparklepants41 Best of luck with your presentation!
@MissKittyDanger I find it soooo tedious to keep up with the different anniversaries. I'm guaranteed to forget the type.
But I love that lyrics idea!
@DrillSergeantCat You can have my CPA. LOL! It doesn't qualify me for anything when I move abroad.
ETF: This thing is tagging people without my doing? I hope it removes it this time.
The irony. Normally the temperature in my office is very comfortable. Except in the summertime. Then my office is FREEZING, because they turn up the a/c big time. It's a 95+ degree sauna outside. But inside, I'm wearing a jacket, lol.
We got a frantic text last night from the tenant we are evicting. Although he didn't specifically say this...let me guess...he must have been served yesterday. On the potentially bright side, "bright side" being a relative term, he said he'll move out by July 8th (court date is July 10th) and allow us to immediately start showings to find our next tenant. His goal in this is so we will stop the eviction proceedings.
We made it very clear that OBVIOUSLY we're not stopping the eviction until he has turned the unit back over to us. So, if he doesn't want an eviction on his record, that ball is now entirely in his court (no pun intended). The fees I've already paid are non-refundable and I can technically cancel the eviction hearing up until "one minute" before our time to appear.
@MissKittyDanger I love the canvas idea!
SSDD here! Most likely sneaking away to Chicago for an impromptu girls trip this weekend so I'm excited about that! There are still nice hotels in River North for $200/night!
My friend I talked about last week got to go home over the weekend:). I organized our sorority sisters to help raise some money, and yesterday I bought too small of a card for all of our names so I need to buy a new one and I'm bummed. This card was perfect. It reads: "You're really, really, really great and you don't deserve to be going through any of this crap." Back to the generic greeting card section for me!
How rude!!
DH, BIL, and the kiddo are having a blast out west. DH has been posting some awesome pics. The scenery is just unreal.
I'm trying to keep DefConn occupied while I work. Only 2.5 more days of work and then I'm off until after DH is home.
I keep reading the title of the dad drinking post as, "My MIL is encouraging me to day drink."
DD is up to 12 lb 9 oz! So she has over doubled in weight since birth, which is right where she should be for 4 months! Yippy! Doctor said she was perfectly healthy as well! Downside to the appointment was how long we waited! There was NO ONE THERE! And we were there for an hour. She had more vaccines and took them as much of a champ as two needles to her little thighs would allow. It sounds horrible, but it was kinda funny to see her gigglely face turn into "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!!!!" at the point the first needles was administered. She calmed down by the time we left at least. Now we just wait for cranky baby to appear in a day or so.
My niece is officially adopted by her SD today, which is so wonderful! SD has been one of the best things to happen to my sister and niece and now he is officially no longer SD and just Dad!
SSDD today. I may have to travel for work tomorrow, but we shall see. It depends on how much my co-workers have accomplished today. They want/need to finish their job by Thursday, so my extra set of hands may be needed.
I am meeting a friend for happy hour today and its Taco Tuesday!
I've rounded up some of the stuff we bought (and didn't use) that can be taken back. Just trying to muster up the ambition to go to Costco for that.
Started working on Thank You cards.
@DrillSergeantCat Sadly that sounds like a good portion of my relatives. Apparently my dad started talking to my good friend at the wedding about how "The Muslims are coming and women are going to have to sit in the back seat". I just hope he only said that kind of shit to her, and nobody else. Ugh. Sorry you have to deal with those types all the time.
Ugh, yes! It's at least not an everyday occurrence for me.
But I used to have a "stalker" at Harrahs Casino. I don't know what this guy did for a living that he apparently spent every night at the casino...though not doing much gambling. However, almost every time I was there, invariably he'd swing by and sit next to me to talk. And half the time it was just rants about Muslims, various nationalities, and various races. He didn't discriminate much in that respect, lol. Everybody was his target. Though he never disparaged African Americans.
I don't know why I was often his conversational victim because, even though he was an acquaintance at best (even that is stretching it), that wouldn't stop me from calling him out on his b.s. Never in an argument. I just constantly and calmly said stuff like, "I've told you not to talk to me about (insert race/national origin/religion). It really offends me."
Then one day, and I don't know why this makes me laugh because it is still terrible. But he made up a stereotype I'd never heard. The conversation started with, "You know how Chinese are so cheap?" I had to bite my lip to keep from bursting out in laughter. Like when a toddler does something bad, but it's so odd and random that you just want to laugh, but can't laugh because you don't want to encourage.
I think I said something like, "I have to admit you caught me with that one! I have actually never heard that stereotype. But, like any stereotype, it's a very unfair thing to say. People are individuals." Apparently he had loaned money to a friend of Chinese origin, who was welching not paying back the loan. So, okay dude, than YOUR FRIEND is cheap (cue eyeroll).
I learned something today
Thanks for the correction
It's only been in the last few years I'd heard that "gypped" is a disparaging word for gypsies. As such, I've tried to erase it from my vocabulary. I will now do the same thing with "welch".
It's hard though when you are used to using those words. I have to mentally remind myself every time a word like that pops in my head. I'm not complaining, it's worth the effort to not use offensive words. It's just tough to get that programming out, lol.
Second day back is going well so far. No major issues except for fixing what my coworker screwed up while I was out.
I have a jury duty summons for next week, and I need to postpone because I don't want to be out two weeks so close together. I just called, and the jury commission's system is down. Going to have to try again tomorrow.
Tonight's project is moving our chest of drawers out of the spare room into our bedroom. That's going to be fun, because our bedroom is tiny. We're going to have to do some major rearranging.
It basically means not living up to an agreement/promise made. It's usually in reference to money, ie loans and/or bills. But doesn't have to be and it would still make sense.
My small adulting win for the day. I finally remembered to pay my stupid "extra millage" property tax bills for my investment properties, lol. They were these unexpected little bills that showed up in every NOLA property owner's mail...four months after the "normal" property tax bills were due.
As such, they just haven't been on my radar at all. Except at random times when I'd suddenly think, "Oh! I need to remember to pay those bills."
$175 poorer, but now the personal nagging about them will stop taking up room in my brain, lol.
