Wedding Woes

Wednesday

I need good luck today. It's the annual swim with mil day. I woke up at 126 and couldn't go back to sleep. I finally went to the couch where an Untold Stories of theER put me to sleep around 4. I'm going to need help not to be a snot.

Yesterday was tons of fun. The kids paraded and bounced. Dh and I had day drinks with neighbors. M2 won a $25 gift card for her bike decorations. I won an oil change and car detail (my van is a disaster!!!) in a raffle. Our annual dues are $25. I love our 'hood.

  • H just took the boxes to the car and the dog cried and tried to jump in one of them. It's going to be a long few weeks.

@6fsn  congrats on the winning :) what kinda makeup did you do?

@charlotte989875  omg poor pup!! And I want to find a donation place with kittens .... actually I just want to be around kittens. lol

Monday we went to a beach where the guys rented kayaks and canoe. I went on canoe but didn't apply sunscreen just before .... so I'm burnt. But like raccoon eyes burnt because I was wearing sunglasses.
I've been slathering aftersun on, but I think tonight I'll have to do ye olde vinegar and water trick on a couple of places - like my forehead and hip. My forehead hurts most, but it's probably just because of where it is.

I have horrible knots in my shoulders, and M massaged it a bit and put biofreeze on but it's not doing much :(
I'm going for a massage Friday. It's an indian head massage but i'm hoping it'll help my knots also.

    edit:

I used the Method "Squirt & Mop" almond on my floors Sunday. OMG I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!
I need to find another kind for the tiles, but I think this is my new fave mopping stuff. I may do a serious mop with a mop vs microfiber a couple times a year, but this does a really good job.
  • @DrillSergeantCat Wow that lube place is awful. Is there a different one you can attend? I find local garages, in my experience, usually have better customer service and quality than franchises.

Also, awww. That scene of y'all feeding the animals looks too cute in my head. Glad you had fun! :)

  • @NiceKindaSpice yeah there's other places I can go to, but this one is .3 miles from my house so it's really convenient. After I get my cover replaced, I'm not going back.

Mouse loved feeding the animals. He'll take one pellet and say, "Twow?" And he holds it until one of us says, "Yes. Throw."
  • @DrillSergeantCat  If that happened to me with the animals, I would start singing. Isn't that what disney princesses do? ;)

@NiceKindaSpice  I tried that but they're kind of on top of my shoulders, so it doesn't work well :( M tried to massage, but once he put pressure on it I was whining.
  • Hello All, back from my glorious 4-day weekend.

@charlotte989875, I saw on a previous post you got the job.  Congrats!  That's very exciting.  I know you all have been wanting to get back to Buffalo.

My H and I had a leisurely and luxurious lunch on Friday at a fancy-pants restaurant near our house.

Saturday was a whirlwind of cleaning and organizing as we got ready for my cousin and her H to arrive.  My H had dumped a bunch of construction stuff from our last reno...*cough, cough* that was done in February...into our front room.  It's been looking like a mini ACE hardware store since then.  I don't know where he put all that stuff, probably the shed, but I'm excited to have my living room back, lol.

On Sunday, we all went to a nearby coffee shop with the pupper and just hung out for a couple hours catching up.  Then it was off to see Oak Alley.

On Monday, we all went out for a delish breakfast at a place I'd been wanting to try.  I had a Benedict over wilted spinach and fried oysters, of all the crazy things.  Then we headed off to Avery Island to visit the Tabasco plant and grounds.  In all the time I've lived in southeast LA, that was the first time I'd gone.  We took separate cars and said adieu to our guests who headed to their next stop in Houston.  Then, since we were in Cajun country, we picked up awesome boudin on the way home (a rice/pork sausage).

On Tuesday, I lounged around watching tv in my pjs all day, lol.  Then we had friends come over from MS to hang out.  We cooked up some of that boudin ;).  The city shoots fireworks over the MS River and we were even able to see some of them from my deck.

All around, a lovely and fun weekend.

And now today.  My mouse wasn't working when I got into work.  Mmmmkay.  Switched it with another one.  Then I go to open my main database.  That I desperately need for my month-end reports.  It's totally wonky.  Except the only IT guy who deals with the databases is on vacation this week.  Still puzzling over what to do.  Sigh.  Why does it have to be an extra challenging day after a long weekend, lol?

@6fsn, I never figured out make up! lol.  Eyes shadow especially.  I have really sunken in eyelids so putting any highlights or blends on my eye lid is pretty much a waste of time.
@charlotte989875, good luck with the notice! phew!
@kimmiinthemitten, glad you had a good time in Chicago. I love that architectural tour. And of course I love portillo's!

I bought a car! I went with DH after work on Monday, and we test drove what I had in mind once, loved it, and then put a down payment on it while it comes in (either today or tomorrow). So I don't have it yet.  It's a mazda cx3.  I got a good deal for my trade in, and I talked down the price a bit to fit my payments.  Not the color I walked in wanting, but it'll do.

Yesterday the hubs and i went out for brunch, and then I came home to finally upload and organize my photos from both the phone and dslr camera.  I hadn't done it since December.  We took 290 on our honeymoon (cruise) and 870 of Ireland!  I felt super productive for getting that out of the way.  Other than that, I just watched netflix and chilled.

edit for: Is anyone having trouble getting back to work?  I do have actual work but I don't wanna!

  • @MissKittyDanger Rosie has been slapped a couple times, but she's been pretty scared of the cats, until H paid attention to them.  He is the absolute worst, which is hilarious considering as a teacher he hates helicopter parents.  We went through this when we got Kennedy too.  He feels all bad for the new pet, and hovers over them to prevent them from making mistakes, but they need to be thumped on occasion to set boundaries.

@CharmedPam I'm legitimately considering ordering myself the 10 pack dog box just because I am craving Chicago dogs now.  I'll deny it if you tell anyone, but I prefer Chicago dogs to Detroit Coneys.

That's what I like to hear.  I went to lakeshake last weekend with my parents.  My dad came back with what was the nastiest hot dog ever known to man.  For $5 too!  he asked for condiments on it, but it would have been $7.50 since that's considered "Chicago style" to them.  So he came back with ketchup and mustard packets. lol.

But $7.50 for the worst Chicago dog you ever had  vs  $2.49 for the best Chicago dog.....hmmmm the decision is a hard one!

Ketchup is a gift from the gods.

  • @charmedpam I agree, except on a hot dog!

My condiment shock.  I was staying at the Harrah's in Atlantic City and they have a food court in their casino.  I went to a store that only sold pretzels and got one.  I'm looking around for mustard and can't find it.  So I ask where it is.  I'm told it is 50 cents for mustard.

I thought they misunderstood me.  And replied back, "Oh no, I'm just looking for regular mustard, not the honey mustard (on the menu)."  They're like, "yeah, mustard is 50 cents."  At a PRETZEL store.

I stare back speechless and incredulous.  It wasn't even the money.  It's the, I've eaten at 1,000+ places all over the country in my lifetime and that is the only one that charged me for a basic condiment.

  • Yesterday was a success. I messed people up on the sangria. It was pretty hot but we still managed to play some outdoor games. Later in the evening we had a bonfire and just hung out. I did get a little miffed at SO because he went to bed instead of helping me clean up. And one of our glasses broke after me repeatedly saying we should use plastic cups for our get togethers instead of the nice glass ones. So that was annoying. All in all a success though.

  • @short+sassy  this trip sparked my memory, here's my list for places to eat:

    Purple Pig - River North
    Publican - Fulton Market
Big Taco and/or Blackbird- Wicker Park
    Frontera Grille - River North
Longman and Eagle - Logan Square
    Acanto - The Loop
Copper Fox - River North (the Biscuits are amazing!)

    Dogs:  Portillos (chain)
    'Za:  Gino's East (chain)
    Steak:  Bavettes (River North)

We also finally got into Three Dots and a Dash (River North) - it's totally kitchy but you have to go at least once.  The drinks are tasty and fun to take photos of, we didn't try the food.  Wicker Park also has a new tiki bar called Mahalo that has a totally different vibe and features Hawaiian beers.  We did have the shrimp app there and it was pretty good.

Tbh we still tell Penny to leave Angel alone, but that cat has patience of a saint some days .... she'll play with his tail, and he'll deal for awhile but sometimes he throws a giant paw out and she gets tossed. Learns and couple days later she's being a little shit again.

  • Ladies .... please tell me I'm not alone.

I picked up some soup and spring rolls from a restaurant next to my work. Spring rolls are great. Went to have soup, felt full. Fine. I'll just leave it open and nibble on some.

    Started feeling sick.
I swear ... I am more sensitive to smells while on my period.
    Anyone else sensitive to anything?
  • @MissKittyDanger I get that way.

I'm starting to get pissed. The ballast went out in the only light in my bathroom at work over the weekend. The parts guy went and got new bulbs but not a new ballast. It's now noon and I still have no light. I'm already pumping in there and now I have to pump in by the light of a shop light.

    Oh good! I'm not alone!

And dammit dude! Get the damn light fixed for the woman who needs to be in there Grrrr

My friend would never speak to me again if I didn't recommend Pequad's for deep dish. He says everything else is trash, lol.
I personally recommend Fado's Irish Pub but only if Aaron Wilhoft is playing. ;)

We FINALLY got a dining table, lol. other than that, SSDD. I sewed two rows of my quilt but will have to rework them a little to get the points to match up. Probably won't work too much on it till after the weekend. The house is trashed and I need to get my shit together. I am going to try to finish it before DH goes to his conference, so he can take it with him and ship it in the US, but it won't be the end of the world if I take longer.
