Come clean...otherwise what is the point of recovery?

Re: Come clean...otherwise what is the point of recovery?

  • Another problem with encouraging, however strongly, an apology is that it also places some work on the person who was wronged.  Some people might be more than willing to help someone in this step by listening to an apology.  And for some, hearing an apology and even seeing or thinking about the person who wronged them will disrupt any healing process that they went through on their own.  The well-being of the person recovering from alcoholism is not more important that the well-being of the person who was hurt by them, but if an apology is forced in a program, it seems like that stance is being taken.  I would hope that is not the case, and that this step is more about thinking about people other than yourself affected by your problem.
And as PP have said, LW should come clean if he/she really wants to.
