Wedding Woes

Election Day!

It's cold and rainy.  10 am and I've folded 5 loads of laundry, washed sheets, had preschool conferences, and worked 3 hrs.  I'm ready for a nap.  I need to go vote, go to the grocery, make up beds with clean sheets, and clean the bathrooms.

I really just want to curl up with a cup of hot tea.

Re: Election Day!

  • So we're under contract on the house. Not super excited because the offer was less than our bottom line, and we're going to owe a bit on the mortgage after closing costs, but we felt we had to take it because if we held on to it through the winter we'd pay the same out in mortgage + utilities so we might as well just be done with it now. It sucks, I loved this house, and we're disappointed in how it's ending. Trying to tell myself this is the best option we have.

  • @6fsn you have had a very productive morning. You deserve that nap!

Not much last night. M got Assassin's Creed Origins and he basically just played that all night.
Made the potatoes and calamari. M didn't realize we had bigger potatoes in the fridge, so they were small :( Then realized our onion had mold. Oh well. *sigh*

    Tonight we're stopping by my mum's place. I'm distracting her while M measures where her tv goes so we know for sure how big we can go. {I'm still betting on 38" }

Tomorrow is my first prenatal appt :) I'm weirdly excited? Lol I have a list of questions for my dr - some are relevant and some are just personal knowledge.
Then I'm swinging by Shoppers Drug Mart {basically Ulta}  to pick up some stuff. I need more vitamins, and since my skin is freaking out I'm gonna ask what I can/can't use on it. Might find something else I can throw into my skincare routine.

    I'll probably tidy up the house, clean a bathroom, and take a nap. Depending on time, I may throw food into the crockpot. I'm making meatballs. Usually it's what we make when we're home because it doesn't cook very well on low {has to be on high - idk why}

Definitely taking a nap tomorrow. Lol these all-dayers are rough
  • No elections for us today.

Same shit different day around here.

It's cold.  I'm tired.  Blah, blah.
  • No elections in my township, but the city has a commissioner election I'm particularly interested in.  The downtown is at a point where it needs to decide who it wants to be; I tend to support the idea of bringing more high-quality restaurants and bars downtown, but the old fuddy-duddy's don't.

I'm WFH today because I'm a mucus factory and no one needs to be near me.  I hate being sick and am hoping I can hydrate and sweat this whole bug out.

Plus, I have 9 days until I leave for Vegas and I am not starting my first trip there sick.  Hell to the no.  Speaking of which, any tips?  My BFF hasn't been in over an decade so she's a bit out of date.  We're staying at the SLS which is at the north end of the strip and a newer hotel.

  • I need to clear up that spare room closet soon.

Who wants to do it for me? It's just bringing boxes down ....

Also .... who wants to grab my xmas decor and help me go thru baubles? I think I'm donating a bunch and try to streamline a bunch we have to certain colours. Plus I believe the ones we have aren't shatter proof.

@sparklepants41 are you gonna be doing baby-proof xmas decor/tree?
  • SSDD here.  Snowy and cold.  I'm a bit overwhelmed with my week at work, but I know that in the end I'll get it all done like I always seem to do.

DD is turning into a highly dramatic toddler, the crumbling to the floor in devastation is pretty amusing, but 'no' is a word she has to learn.

  • Wow 6, you have done more this morning than I have done all week.

@charlotte989875 sorry you aren’t getting what you want for the house.

MKD- my friend just mentioned this soap that has cleared up her lifelong acne. I will see if I can find what she said it was. I know she uses 2, one with charcoal in it.

My day was fine. Took the cat to the vet this morning just to find out we had to come back later. Then I had a semi productive morning until the vacuum broke. It was all downhill from there. I picked up things for dinner, took a quick nap, then took the cat back to the vet, made dinner (chicken, asparagus, and sweet potato), now at the barn.

    tomorrow, SSDD.
  • Elections today and the city and the county governments are fighting and citizens are probably going to be on the losing end of that nonsense.

I'm trying to get out of my head and not cancel my vacation.  I need it, desperately, but work is a clusterfuck.  It continues to be a clusterfuck and I can't figure out a way around it.  I'm incredibly frustrated.  I mean, it'll be a clusterfuck when I get back too, and I can't decide if it's all worth it.  IDK, bad headspace.

  • So sorry, @charlotte989875, that the selling didn't go as planned.  At least it's off your hands!  We feel the people we're buying the condo from is in the same boat, they just want to sell.
@kimmiinthemitten, yes! Go the Zak Bagans Haunted Museum....unless you're not as creepy and deranged as I am?  That could be the case.....  Have fun! anything there is pretty good.  I haven't been disappointed by a show yet!

amc extended their $5 movie Tuesday through Dec 19th so I'm pretty excited about that.  Thor or jigsaw tonight with the hubs.

Yes! Find out! I know I can still use charcoal and I know this is 100% pregnancy related also lol

Doesn't old wives tales say this means I'm having a girl? Lol

@kimmiinthemitten, I haven't been to Vegas in years, but I used to go frequently back in the days I still lived in CA.  One of my favorite things to do was to just walk down the Strip and soak in the sites.  Day and night are different, but both cool experiences.  Most of the casinos are so ostentatious and over the top in their theme, but in a good way, that it's just fun to see them.

My other two recommendations are pretty standard ones.  But they're standard ones for a reason because they are marvelous to behold.  The fountain "show" at the MGM.  I think it runs every 15 minutes after dark.  And the Fremont Experience in the Downtown casino area.  The street, for 4 blocks, has a canopy over it.  During the Fremont Experience Light show, the entire canopy is lit up with Vegas-themed images tied to music.  It's like being in a high, wide tunnel, with colored lights all around you.

    Edited to add:

For any casino you all plan to gamble in, take the bit of extra time to go sign up for their loyalty card.  They almost always come with a booklet of coupons for great stuff.  Like free drinks.  Cheap/free food.  And match-play coupons for usually $5 or $10.  For example, if you're playing at a $5 blackjack table, you can put up your $5 bet plus your $5 match-play coupon.  If you win the hand, you're paid $10.

If you order a wine for your free beverage while gambling, ask if it comes in a plastic cup or wine glass.  If it comes in a plastic cup...and it usually does...choose another alcoholic beverage, lol.

  • Thanks @missJeanLouise and @CharmedPam; we're pretty bummed about it, TBH. It's good we're going to be done with it, but still disappointed. And it's going to set back looking for houses out here.

She will only be 4.5 months at Christmas, so she won't be mobile. However, our dog, who is still very much a puppy at 1 year old, will be curious about the tree, so we will do a puppy-proof tree. Next year for sure we will baby-proof the tree (Babypants will be almost 1.5 years at that point).

Tons of meetings and tons of work to do today. And I don't really want to do it.

My neighbor who has 3 boys under 4 just started a mom's group in the neighborhood with 5 other moms, and we are doing a much-needed moms night out in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it! I know 2 of the moms and I am looking forward to getting to know the others.
  • @VarunaTT go on vacation.
@MissKittyDanger I use charcoal face soap and love it. I have never babyproofed much. I let the kids hang the unimportant ornaments so by default they'd are low

@charlotte989875 sorry about the house. I've had to bring money to the table before and it sucks.
  • @MissKittyDanger This is a quote from her FB. “It's called your grandpa soap company. I use the charcoal first to clean. Leave it on while I wash my hair and condition. It will start tingling. Then I rinse and use the sulfer soap. I was using just the charcoal and it was working ok but using both has done wonders. I know you've seen my face over the years. This is the best and clearest it has been”
idk that you would need both soaps because she has struggled with acne since high school but she really does look good now.
  • @6fsn My cats - mostly Penny - gets into things .... so that's mostly why I need shatterproof ;) One year, Penny opted to climb the tree and it fell over. Nothing broke, we had carpet. But this year it's hardwood lol

Plus next xmas baby Kitten will be 6-ish months. Some kids are grabby about then lol
  • @missJeanLouise I'll take a look for the charcoal soap. I have a deep cleansing one and masks I use regularly, but pregnancy has made my skin oilier than typical and pretty sure that's causing breakouts. I have a love for charcoal skincare lol

My kitty girl started to climb the Xmas tree...once.  She was a 7-8 month old kitten at the time, her first Xmas.  As she started to climb, the tree got wobbly...plus we had jumped up and were yelling Nooooo.  She was really scared and never did it again.

We put "Nip ornaments" on the lowest branches.  Soft, fabric ones.  With wide ribbons that hold on better.  They are awesome cat toys.  She will sit there for the longest time.  Smack.  Watches the ornament sway back and forth for a few seconds.  Smack again.  Rinse and repeat, lol.

  • I feel like I got hit by a bus today. This weekend was fun. I went to a concert with SO's sister and then we hung out on Sunday. Yesterday at work I didn't get any breaks or lunch in my 13 hours of work, so I was exhausted and hungry. I have a paper to write and a quiz to study for today, but I'm feeling so unmotivated. SO is having his game night tonight. BFF flies into town so I might go out to visit her tonight. I just want to veg out on the couch though.

  • Hey all! Today feels like Monday again, especially with all the traffic I ran into this morning. It took an additional 30 minutes to get to work. So that meant I didn't get a coffee or breakfast that I wanted *sigh*

Yesterday was my long day at work, I didn't leave till 6:30 and I was so done with the day at noon :D in fact I was so done that when i left and made it allll the way to my pharmacy, I realized I left my purse at work! I was so mad at myself and drove back to work and then back to the pharmacy. By the time I got home it was almost 8. It threw me off lol so I had dinner and then studied some for my final. Which is either tonight or Thursday, my teacher couldn't make up his mind.

    Other than that is SSDD

With my mum's cat - Storm -  the 1st xmas was interesting.
My parents previous cats were pretty funny kittens, but none bothered with a tree.

I get home at 2am - drunk lol - and the tree was right by the door. I'm taking off my coat and boots, the tree sways. I think damn I must be more drunk than I thought!
Suddenly it sounds like something is about to fall. I go to grab the tree, and the cat LITERALLY FALLS OUT OF THE TREE! With a crash. Then zooms out of the living room.
    I'm giggling, and realize someone in my parents' room is awake {I see the tv}
I sneak in. My dad's up. PERFECT! I crouch over by his side, tell him the story. He looks at the cat snoozing on the bed, then back at me. We're both giggling like idiots.

And that is my favourite xmas story so far lol
  • MKD - We won't really baby proof the tree and DD is mobile (sort of!).  We will keep the most breakable ornaments higher.  Also, your breakouts may be hormonal, so no cleanser in the world will help.  The only thing that will help is when your placenta takes over the hormone production.  That is generally the end of the 1st tri, which is why nausea settles down as well.

    Varuna - TAKE YOUR VACATION!

Kimmi - We were in Vegas this time last year.  We enjoyed the arboretum in the Bellagio (their water fountain show too!), it was free.  There is also the world's largest chocolate fountain around the corner from the arboretum in Bellagio.  We had amazing gelato there too.  The Volcano outside Mirage is fun.  We did a few groupons for dinners.  PrimeBurger - in Venetian (they had an amazing early bird filet special!) the burger was soooo gooooood!  We also ate at a burger place in the Palms that was at the top of their building, forget the name.  We usually only do 1 really nice meal on vacation and I can't remember what it ended up being.  We also really enjoyed the sports bar outside of Paris.  It was 1 floor above the sidewalk and was a really cool place with tons of beers on draft or bottle!  H got some Kona brews that hadn't been back to the East Coast - H was in love (I was pregnant, so I missed out!)

I voted today already.  Hoping our Mayor gets kicked out on his ass.  He raised property taxes 42% in his 8 years so far.  Lots of people are mad, we just need to see if enough are mad!  And the school board has even gotten pretty heated.  It's not even a paid position!

The paralegal luncheon from my office was today and it was at Capital Grille - it was amazing!  I had the Shrimp and Grits with huge hunks of bacon - yummmmmmmm!  And we got a $50 Amex gift card too!  Woo!

Not sure what is up for today.  I need to start planning for our Christmas card.  So I'm going to be looking at some ideas for pictures of DD.  I already have a few Christmas-y outfits, I just need to get the background set up.  We have an unused fireplace, so I'm thinking of putting up the stockings and putting some lights inside the fireplace and maybe a few other Christmas decorations and just take the pictures in front.  So I may start looking at Pinterest for ideas tonight.

  • My childhood cat climbed the tree every year. After it falling over a few times, my parents started tying the top off to the curtain rail like we lived in an earthquake zone. :)
  • And DefConn broke his glasses.  Didn't even make it 2 months.  *sigh*  Thank goodness for warranties.
  • We're worried about the cats this year. Last year we bought a bunch of really nice glass ornaments so now we have to go buy plastic ones. I bet Aurora will be okay, but Jack is a freaking train wreck. I bought a temperpedic style mattress topper the other day and I left the room for ten seconds and he ripped a huge chunk out of it. And he's been hanging on my expensive Roman shades. Whyyyyy.

  • @OliveOilsMom I figured it was pregnancy related but it just seems to be getting worse and there's 2 bad ones that actually kinda hurt too :( Damn hormones lmao
