Wedding Woes

Prudie Day. Also Thursday.

What's going on today, anything fun? We run a culinary program out of our building so everything smells delicious (it's their graduation day) and I want to eat all of the food.

I'm going to a big holiday shopping event with local vendors and small businesses with a friend tonight, then watching the Steelers game with H. He leaves again for camp tomorrow, so a little together time before he goes would be nice.

  • @charlotte989875 sounds like you'll have to wander by and see if you can get samples ;)

Not a whole lot. Went to the mall last night and it felt like a bust :( Sephora doesn't carry Stila in store anymore - just online - and then I couldn't find the mask I wanted. I know I can order online, but it's just such a hassle and idk if I'll get them in before I need them.

I did get my top for xmas parties. I got it after we ate because I've been bloating out more than typical, so it would give my an idea on the material of the shirt. It's nice and stretchy.
We also picked up a tree.

How is it I married the one Atheist who wants the tradition of a friggen tree? Fml.

There's winter-y weather coming Saturday, so we're gonna be rushing to get crap inside and the a/c covered tonight. We can't tomorrow because we're going to a comedy club with M's work.

M still has to do his tires, so I told him Saturday I'll make sure he's up early enough to get started in hopes he'll be done before weather starts.

Alone in the office today. So it's basically surf the net and catch up on filing.

@mrsconn23, how many days will you be parked?  I love spothero (in Chicago. NOT NYC, had a bad experience there) but it looks like you got what you wanted anyway?
@Misskittydanger, holy smokes - your'e supposed to cover up the a/c unit?  I never even thought to!
@charlotte989875, what kind of vendors? like what's at this shopping event?

Last night I stopped by  the dollar tree to pick up some stuff and man, let me tell you - their stuff is getting good!  I saw a lot of Christmas decorations I loved.  You can throw up Christmas on a shoe string budget there.  I mentioned before I loved reindeer right?  I also love glitter. They had glitter reindeer tree ornaments for a buck! Silver, gold and white. So cute!  I bought a few!

other than that, SSDD. Next time this week is American Thanksgiving! I thought I'd be on liquid shake diet but when I called my doctors office, I found out they didn't fax the file over to insurance until Oct 25th (thought it was the 16th and I'd have a date set by now)! So I probably wont go on the 2 week protein shake diet until after thanksgiving.  It's just going to be DH and I for it too.  *if* he's not working.  edit for words

  • @CharmedPam We were told to. Actually they specifically said not to allow snow in it. Ours is a box outside, so maybe the way it's made? I know everyone who has that type has to cover it.
Very cute buck! I'm hitting dollarama near our place soon to see what they have, vs what we need.
  • I'm here today.  I got food poisoning from lunch on Tuesday.  H met me and we went to one of our favorites.  Not sure what did it, we both ate from each other's plates.  I had it worse than H.

DD also was sent home from daycare on Tuesday with a fever.  So she couldn't go back without a doctor's note or 24 hours of no symptoms.  So H had decided to stay home with her since I did Monday.  With the food poisoning we were all home together.  Thankfully H wasn't as bad as me, so he was still able to take her to the doctors.  He took the reigns with DD, so I could get some rest as well.

I'm feeling much better today, but still not very hungry.  So I'm sticking to toast and soup until I feel up to eating more.

So far Prudie will be the highlight.  Hope she doesn't disappoint today.

I'm going on my 3rd winter here (but the first 2 were NOT bad!), and I just never thought to cover mine. I don't think my parents did when I lived at home with my parents but I think my unit is definitely a "cover up" one.  I'm sure I have to! I will now, thanks to you.

Just one night.  I got a spot through ParqEx.  I looked at SpotHero too.  Parqex was cheaper and I got a groupon code for them too.

The hotel wanted $65 for valet.  Eff that noise.

  • My H and I had an unexpected guest last night, but it was fun.  It's an online friend of H's, who lives in Atlanta.  But travels a lot for his work.  He'd been in Lake Charles, LA and was driving back to Atlanta.  Apparently they'd made a "maybe" arrangement that, with time permitting, he'd stop by on his way through NOLA.  It was a nice night and we hung out on the deck chit-chatting and tossing the ball for our dog, Izzy.  Izzy was very excited to have charmed a new sucker into petting her and throwing her ball, lol.  Then we walked to a nearby bar for drinks and some food.  A good time all around, but I went to bed late and now I'm tired, lol.

Tonight, my H and I are going to the Treasure Chest casino (my usual is Harrahs).  I've actually never tried their buffet, but they recently revamped it and sent me a coupon for two free buffets.  Plus I have $70 in slot play to try my luck with.

I say you can't NOT go!

I really need to go to Harrah's more often.  My parents get those perks too.  The Harrah's near me has amazing hotel rooms.  If we get a free room it would make for a really nice staycation for us. But I'm the most unlukiest person when it comes to gambling.

It's a real shame.  I play at Harrahs 10x+ more often than I play at Treasure Chest.  Simply because it is a lot closer to both my work and my house.  Less than 10 minutes from work and about 15 minutes from my house.

But Treasure Chest (TC) gives me WAY better gifts and more slot play.  Even though I might go a few months, without even visiting.

However, TC is in a suburb called Kenner.  That's also where the NOLA airport is, if that gives you an idea of how BFE Kenner is, lol.  It's 30-45 minutes away from me.  I'll even be excited about a gift or a lot of slot play and then, the time comes, and I'm like, "Nah, ugh, I just can't fathom 90 minutes r/t of driving today."

Edited to add:  Yeah, those "free rooms" can get pricey ;).

  • Hey all! I've been MIA the last few days.

@OliveOilsMom Sending vibes your way! Glad your feeling a bit better but food poisoning sucks!
@CharmedPam that reindeer is super adorable!!! I feel like my dollar tree never has anything good lol
@MissKittyDanger do you have an Ulta near you? They still carry Stila

On Tuesday I woke up super dizzy (like room spinning dizzy) and nauseous. It stayed that way all day and was not letting up. FI took me to the dr and they diagnosed me with Benign Positional Vertigo. It's been a hell of a time, they gave me meds to help with the dizziness and nausea but they make me extremely drowsy so it's basically picking the lesser of two evils while at work. Since I've been so nauseous I can't eat anything other than soup because I will start throwing up, even though I am extremely hungry for food lol. So it's just been overall rough.

Other than that not much else is going on, I powered through work yesterday and went home and took a glorious 3 hour nap. Today I hope I can get a target run in, but we shall see.

  • @Lala9414 I'm in Canada, so we have Shoppers Drug Mart. I may got there but I was hoping to use my Sephora gift card :(
Hope the Vertigo gets under control :( I had a boss who had that and it's not fun
  • @short+sassy I have a gambling question. Full disclosure: I am not a gambler. Not for any weird moral reasons, but because I just don't really find it fun. So do you do it for the money? Like you win a lot? Or do you do it because it's fun? Are you a slot person or what?

I knew you were in Canada but for the life of me I couldn't remember if they have an Ulta there or not lol. I hope you find your Stila products soon! And thank you, they said it should resolve on its own within a few days to a week, so we shall see!

I do it because usually someone I'm with is doing it. LOL. I don't put much in though, which is why I don't come out a winner very often.  I play slots.  Depending on the theme it CAN Be fun (especially when you get free games, not watching the wheel spin)

@lala9414, sorry you can't eat much.  hopefully the drugs kick in!

I actually went home on my lunch hour, snuggled with the hubs and grabbed 1/2 hour of sleep. Feeling MUCH more refreshed now for the 2nd half of the knotting day. :)

  • @charlotte989875 are you able to partake in the delicious festivities?

@charmedpam DH's family has always covered their ACs, we always took them out of the windows growing up.  I think you would cover them so cold air doesn't get it, but I'm just guessing.

Having a little lunch at work, contemplating running downstairs to grab a tea.  The weather just feels raw to me this week, so I'm chilly even inside.  I just want a hoodie instead of a suit!  Everyone is on edge here with the recent election and a new boss starting soon.  It's hard to know who will keep their jobs and who will be laid off.  I'm hoping my direct boss stays because she really is wonderful.

Excited to pick up little man from daycare today.  I feel like I have a tendency to snap at him when he doesn't listen to me or do what I ask of him.  I read an article a few days ago about how toddlers aren't defiant to be bad, they are exploring their world and their boundaries.  I made a conscious effort to understand him more and not snap.  It has been three days, and I actually feel like he is responding more when I ask him to do things. . . . everything seems to be taking twice as long, but we're communicating well.  It makes me feel terrible about getting short with him everytime I have in the past.  Added to that, a high school friend and his wife just lost their little 14 month old girl suddenly 2 days ago.  It makes me so sad for them, and so grateful for everyday I have with a healthy child.......because you just never know!  If anyone has any extra thoughts and prayers for their family, I think they could use them.  They also have a 3.5 year old son at home.

I tend to find that most people either really like gambling or they really don't.

The irony is not lost on me that I LOVE to gamble.  Even though I'm normally a frugal person, money-wise.  Because there is nothing financially smart about it, lol.  I know that.  Logically.  But it is really fun for me.  It's an adrenaline rush and it's an especially huge adrenaline rush, when I get a big win.  I give myself a monthly budget for it in a sub-category under "entertainment".

I "sort of" do it for the money.  But more for the excitement of the big wins.  Because, over the course of time, nobody comes out ahead from gambling.  With exceptions for huge jp winners and skilled live poker players.

I've had gambling sessions where I've won a lot.  Often hundreds.  Sometimes even thousands, if I hit something amazing.  But, referring back to my previous paragraph, over the course of a year or 5 years or whatever timeframe...alas, I do not come out ahead.

I rarely play slots.  I just don't care for them and their complete randomness.  I play table games sometimes, but usually only if I'm with someone else.  Because those are more social games than the machines.  Blackjack and craps are my favorite table games.  They also have the better odds for table games.  Probably why they're my favorites, lol.  And if you are ever at a full craps table when the game is going hot, hot, hot.  It is loud, joyful, exciting and you can almost see the electricity in the air.  It's also a very fast-paced game, which adds to that.

Video poker is my main jam.  I like that there is at least some decision making on the player's part.  Though, don't get me wrong, I will take "luck over skill" ANY day, lol.  It also has better odds than most slot machines.  A video poker machine with a decent pay table has about a 97.1% pay back rate.  But that's the odds for millions of hands played.  Any particular session can be substantially better or worse.  But, overall, if you're getting dealt decent hands, you can play for hours with the same $50 or $100.

I don't know what it is about sloths.  For such a weird looking animal, they also manage to be so ridiculously cute!

I think it's their extra round faces and they usually seem to have a sweet, gentle looking expression.

i feel that way sometimes, and our segment of procurement is ~300 people, globally. it's usually when someone has a really stupid problem, and wants to blame something on procurement.
