Wedding Woes

Almost Friday!

Not too much here. We just interviewed an amazing job candidate so I'm feeling really good about work today. Looking forward to the weekend, especially since we're seeing the roller derby tomorrow!

Other than that not much today. I'm starting to feel a little bad for H about my schedule; I work at the nonprofit most days from 8-2ish then go to the university to teach. Three days a week it's only until 5, but then I have to catch up on nonprofit work and grading, but the other two days I teach until 8. Then I have an hour of running for the marathon training, so I'm not getting home until 9 (or later). I cook dinner (H does all the shopping and most of the cleaning), but even that's gotten harder. I'm finding it harder to fit in everything I need and want to do. Anyone else have this? Any suggestions?

    Yup! There's never enough time.

In your situation I would probably move my running to the morning to get it out of the way.  I forget if it was you or someone else who said they don't like early morning running but it might be the best for your schedule. On the days you only teach until 5 can you have dinner together at like 6 and do your work after that?
  • @charlotte989875 Is it possible to find a day where you're able to leave early {either in the morning or afternoon - between jobs if possible} to book stuff?

My mum's worked weird hours for years, so my parents opted to pick a day on the weekend that they would do their stuff. Typically it was Sundays. In the morning it would be old country music for my dad, while my mum would do stuff. Afterwards would be cleaning and errands.

It sounds like it'd be an all day thing, but it never was.

Not a whole lot last night. I asked M to pick me up since I still wasn't feeling good. Today's better than yesterday, but still enh :(

Neither of us wanted to make dinner, so we - sadly - ordered dinner. Such a bad habit lately :(

Not much tonight. M has to salt our walkway and I need to throw laundry in. I may run a vacuum around, but idk.
  • SSDD here. I've worked from home the last 2 days because of a sick baby and then icy roads yesterday. Sometimes it is good to be back in the office but then other times I'd rather be comfy on my couch at home.

My H's birthday is this weekend but we don't have plans. We sort of celebrated on MLK day (lunch and a movie) since we were both off that day and daycare was open. We don't have a regular babysitter we use so I didn't look into one for Sat or anything. I told him we are probably taking baby B to the bounce house place so he can burn off some energy haha
  • @charlotte989875, that is a really hectic schedule!  At least for dinner, I'd recommend using the "little bit" of extra time on the weekend to prep meals for the coming week.  I signed up for e-mails from a woman (Kelly McNellis) who is a champ at maximizing her time and budget with freezer crockpot meals.  She has turned me into a big fan.  It makes life so much easier!  My H and I have already cut way back on take-out, because we have yummy homemade meals ready to just throw in the crockpot in the morning.

She'll set up an assembly line of gallon freezer bags and can make 6-8 family sized meals in about an hour.  She'll grab one the day before to defrost it in the fridge, then throw it in the crockpot the next morning.  And dinner is ready by the time everyone gets home.  So far, the recipes I've made from her are great and freezing them ahead of time doesn't seem to have affected their taste.  Her company is New Leaf Wellness and, although she does sell ecookbooks at her site, she also has a lot of recipes listed for free and sometimes includes label templates and a grocery list for them.  Though accessing the free recipes is sometimes clunky.  Here is the link to her site:

  • Hanging in today. Trying to apply for jobs.

@charlotte989875, I hope you can successfully adjust your work schedule.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

I haven't seen it in awhile and I don't remember what it was advertising (I think Lowe's), but there is a really cute commercial where a woman is salting her walk...and her little 4-5 year-old daughter is following behind her shaking out salt from a salt shaker, lol.

Hope you continue to feel better and finally get out of the "mehs".

Yup, that was definitely me. But I think you're right, if I ever want to actually see my husband during the week I've got to start running earlier. My runs are only going to get longer from here on out.

This is fantastic, thank you! I definitely don't use the crockpot as much as I should (although I think it's still packed away so I'm going to have to go to the in-laws to find it). I do some meal prepping on Sundays, but definitely not enough for the entire week. Do you leave the crockpot on all day? The idea of that freaks me out a little.

To add on to this...Can you do some meal prep on the weekends?  Cook and freeze (or refridge, if it's going to be eaten in a couple days).  DH and I were just talking about this last night since I'm working so much OT these days and we've put DefConn in JiuJitsu 2 days a week and the kiddo working, etc.   We talked about how we are going to try to do some cooking on the weekends for the next week.  We fired up the grill last night, since it wasn't too bad and we grilled last night's dinner and tonight's dinner.

Anyhoo, yay  for almost the weekend.  This week has been a long one.  The sun is out today and I think it's going to be warmer than it has been.  Prudie just posted, so I'm reading through and will post them soon.  ;)
  • It's my Friday. I have tomorrow off. Nothing fun planned but doctor's appointments and cleaning. I'm that exciting person.

@charlotte989875 - We have a crockpot that automatically shuts down into warm mode then off after cooking time. I think now you can get crockpots you can control with a smartphone app.

Hahahaha! I haven't but now I have to look it up! That just sounds adorable!

I'm use to January "mehs" at this point lol
  • @charlotte989875 I love my crockpot :) We leave at like 745am and M is home typically about 5 latest when he doesn't meet me, but we've left it on all day.

If you're skeptical, do it on a day you're home to ensure everything is okay. Instant Pot would be a good idea for you guys, since it's also quick :)

This comment made me think of This Is Us...and not in a good way.   LOL  Damn that show.  :)
  • This is Us is seriously ruining crock pots for people at least for a few weeks until they forget about it

I've never watched the show. I keep meaning to catch it on Netflix. It's on TV after my bedtime.
  • Had to explain to M's uncle about why crockpots were a trending topic. He doesn't watch, so he didn't understand lol

I'm behind eps, but I have a general idea on what I've missed. Already PVR'd the ep after the Superbowl
  • Work is normaling out a bit!  So yay!

Charlotte - We leave our crockpot on all day.  I usually will start the meal a little before 8 and H will turn it off around 430 when he gets home.  I have also used a timer when I wanted something to start at a specific time, so it doesn't overcook.  Its the same kind you use for lights, just set the time you want the crock pot on and then the remaining hours it is totally off.  I also have used the instant pot I got for Christmas, which did make dinner quick!  But one thing to know is that just because it says a meal will cook in 10 minutes, the appliance still needs time to come to pressure and then release the pressure.

H left for AC this morning after taking DD to daycare.  So tonight it is just the two of us.  I had to pick her up last night from daycare too and the traffic was crazy because of the detour for a closed road.  I'm thinking of trying a different way to get her, but that could actually be worse!  So I will probably google map the amount of traffic before I set out after work.

  • Got to work today and they put me on transport so I’m getting to see all of the hospital today, instead of my usual bubble. At some point today I have to call HR again.

I’m trying to decide if I want to apply for a job teaching at my school. One of my favorite teachers really wants me to apply. She’s teaching twenty units instead of the 12 she was supposed to get this semester and she wants help. I know it would pay well but I’m not sure about trying to do something new right now. Plus I don’t think the school would hire me. I’m not “Christian enough,” and I haven’t had a home church in over 5 years. Oh well. Giving more time to my school would probably suck out what I have left of my soul.

I’m looking forward to exploring those crock pot recipes!

  • I just watched the judge in the Nassar case read the part of his letter, look through the rest of it, and then toss it aside, with the fury of every single victim on her face.  It was everything.

SSDD here.  I made myself sick this morning by drinking sugary sweet tea right out of bed, which was dumb, I know I can't do that.  Now I'm just like...at work.  That's it, I'm just a body here, answering phones when I have to.

I lit into a dude on FB last night who was criticizing the judge for being an 'activist' judge because of her statements about signing his 'death warrant' and that she made mention of how she couldn't sentence him to 'cruel and unusual punishment', even though he deserves everything he did to his victims done to him.

    1) Thanks for trying to tone police a woman who's sat and listened to almost 200 women describe how he abused them, and got away with it, and his response can be boiled down 'bitches be crazy'.  And he had the audacity cry to her that he couldn't deal with the victim impact statements and their effect on his mental health.

    2) There is no jury.  No one to sway.  HE PLEADED GUILTY.  Shut up about appeals.  Also, her sentencing is largely symbolic since he's going to be in prison for 60 years before her sentence would kick in. HE'LL BE DEAD.

This type of response from men is why we're so, so far from being out of the woods on sexism, and rape culture, and wage gap, and so many other societal ills.
    Girl, preach.

I almost lost my damn eyeballs so many times with snowflakes whining about the judge's choice of words and whether she's an "activist judge". Get your browser off Breitbart long enough to recognize that this was a child molester legit beating off to child porn and abusing children in private and even in front of their parents under the guise of a medical degree. For decades.

And you're worried that a judge made mention of how she's going to make him listen to victim statements and is ensuring his sentencing makes sure he rots in jail? Oh no! Yea, THAT'S what you should be upset about.....gtfo.
RIGHT?!  THIS is the hill you're choosing to die on?!  Really, REALLY?!  Because it sounds like you're looking out for the feelings of a molester/rapist/child porn consumer.  THAT'S your guy?

Also, we have enough judges looking out for the men of the world (*cough* Brock 'nice young man who's future shouldn't be tarnished for "20 minutes of action" raping an unconscious woman behind a dumpster' Turner *cough*) that this kind of plain language is *vital* to combating these issues.  God the preciousness of some people bottles the mind.

DH is PISSED about this case.  He's all, "SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO PAY CRIMINALLY!"  I mean, there's going to be plenty of lawsuits.  But really, who else is going to wind up in prison over this?  Probably NO ONE.  That's also why getting ALL the statements and misdeeds done by him out is/was SO important (and likely why the judge allowed days of victim impact statements).

So what are y'alls thoughts on the college President? Apparently tons of people wanted her fired and she resigned amid pressure. But I am on the fence about it. People always want to see top dogs' heads roll. And I get that. They're the captain of the ship yadda yadda.

BUT I think it'd be a hell of a lot more meaningful to see the trainers and coaches who fielded actual complaints from athletes and parents lose their jobs and join the sex offender registry for enabling a predator. And maybe the police officers who told teenagers they "were confused" (because getting your boobs rubbed and being bare hand fingered in your ass and vagina as a treatment for leg pain is a thing..SMH) lose their jobs. To me, that's what I'd rather see. IDRGAF about the president....I'd rather see the enablers punished.

Yeah, there needs to be more accountability from coaches/trainers and anyone else who was told and failed to do anything about it.  I mean, I think there was a cover-up on all levels.  But I think the President resigning is just to put a finger in a dike.

I also wonder about the Karoyli's and how much they knew, since some of this shit was happening at their ranch.  Also, they're already out there as being abusive to some girls (more verbally than anything), so I'm sure the environment there allowed his abuse to thrive since so many of the women trusted him.  There's questions if he was even licensed to practice in TX, where the ranch is located.  It's come out that training  there will no longer be required.

I mean, USAG has prioritized medals over the lives of these women.  So the whole organization is sick from the inside out.  :/
  • I saw that the Olympic Committee is pressuring the entire board of the USAG to resign.  But honestly, I think a full audit/investigation needs to be done of every professional these women and girls came into contact with, with attorneys, and under oath, to make guilty heads roll.  This was an institution wide betrayal and it should be treated as such.

One of the articles I read about the woman who started all of this, talked about the pressure these child (and they are children) athletes and their partners are under, and how they are trained to just submit their power to authority figures like coaches, trainers, and managers.  Well, those authority figures abused the hell out of that power and they need to be held accountable.
  • Yep @VarunaTT.  The amount of control they were able to obtain from the parents (and the girls) without so much as a blink is insane.

And shout out to my hometown paper, IndyStar, for their work in bringing this all to the forefront.  The reporters who dug in and published their investigation are also heroes.  They broke the dam wide open.

Yes! I read that initial reporting they did and it was fantastic.

I have heard of these fantastic things that some crockpots can do.

But I have an old, cheap one that does none of that, lol.  My H is often home and can do the exact heating instructions and then just set it to low until I get home.  But, if he won't be home, we'll just set it on low/warm all day.
