Good Morning!

Re: Good Morning!

  • In South Carolina (where we got married) you have to BOTH show up at the courthouse and fill out your applications/present your IDs simultaneously. Then you have to wait 24 hours and BOTH go back to pick up the license. It was sort of a pain. I'm glad we worked in a lot of time because we ended up not going back the next day, and going back on the second day instead. We brought all kinds of things they told us we would need- Social Security cards, divorce decrees, etc- and they never even looked at them. I don't think they even looked at our licenses.

Also, the part of the courthouse where you get your marriage license is right across the hall from the criminal court, so we rode back down in the elevator with two prostitutes. It was hilarious.
  • It is $90 Anna.  I wasn't too happy about that, and we did not do the pre-marriage classes that reduce the rate.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Good Morning! : Yeah. And they don't like it if you and your fiance happen to be smart asses and screw with them. It delays the process a bit. But really, you just fill out a form, show your ID and pay something to them. Super simple.

Good to know because that is totally something we would do. Ha!

[QUOTE]I hated mushrooms until about 3 months ago.  Now I can't get enough of them.

I just can't do mushrooms.  Even portobellos.  Which is bad, because I'm vegetarian and so many veggie options include portobello mushrooms.  There is just something about them that freak me out.

I went to this wine tasting last year where we had to be blindfolded and taste all these foods so we could pay attention to texture.  One of the foods was mushrooms and I figured it out right away and spat it out.  Classy.
  • Probably, LDY. Isn't Mississippi always last?

I think my mom had to have a blood test to marry my dad (86), but they got rid of it by the time she married my step-dad (00).
  • Ours is $125 (Canadian) and only I had to go with both of our IDs.  The only stuff on the form was where we were born, where we live now and what province or country our parents were born in.

Although, my Fl was able to go into my insurance agent yesterday and fully change my insurance without me present.  Isn't that weird?

  • We paid $30 cash for our marriage license.  We got it within maybe thirty minutes, but H miswrote three of his answers so that delayed us a bit! Silly boy.
  • You don't have to get a blood test in CT or MA, LDY.  That's all I know.

  • No blood test in SC. The form asks your name, age, race (weird), date of birth, location of birth, and "number of this marriage" which you had to circle. The options went up to 4. What if you were on marriage 5?! The fee was $75, but I think in SC that varies by county.
  • Still need a blood test in Montana.  Found that out when my friend was leaving to get married back home...she couldn't even get her blood test done here and fly home with the results. She had to do it there.  Not a happy camper.
MA got rid of the blood tests a few years ago...all we need is the cash, our IDs and FI's divorce decree and we're good to go.  Getting me on his military benefits is another ball of wax.  I'm fairly sure I'll be submitting DNA samples and fingerprints for that.

The marriage license office is right next to the domestic abuse office in our parish courthouse. That was kind of...offputting.

  • On our county clerk's website it has a few "fun facts" about marriage licenses, one of which would totally be FI. "The groom is notorious for forgetting his mother's middle name"

  • Definitely $90 and you had to have it at least 3 days before the actual wedding and you can do it 90 days out.

  • Good morning!  I had to give a presentation this morning at 7:45, and I had about 4 hours sleep because I procrastinated on TK all freaking day yesterday instead of preparing for it.  It went really well though!  I'm back home already and am going back to bed soon before I have to work 2nd shift.

<div>No, that is scarily easy as well.  Just mail a copy of the marriage license and I think birth certificate and social security card.  </div>

Because we obviously live not in Florida, but ALL of our identification is still Florida stuff. I have a Florida driver's license, I'm registered to vote in Florida, our cars are registered in Florida, everything is Florida. I don't have anything official to prove I live in DC. And I don't want to get anything official to prove I live in DC because we are probably moving to VA either days before or days after the wedding so I don't want to have to change stuff just to change it again. I called the courthouse and they said I could just bring in a utility bill or something, but I'm terrified they will change their mind about that when we go there 48 hours before the wedding.
  • Ugh, booboo according to military records Mr. P is still married to his ex-wife. There are no benefits involved here so it's not a huge deal but I'm just irked about it. I realzed when we were at Andrews AFB for the air show a few weeks ago I probably should have had it taken care of then, but I hadn't thought about it until we got there so I didn't have any paperwork. Annoying.

You know what's awesome about North Dakota? When you get your marriage license? You also get a slab of beef.

  • So I haven't read the whole thread, but I saw the rental discussion on page 1/2.

LVB, have you looked for rentals recently? I wonder if there will be a big turnover here with the changing of the college school year. I know there always was at Purdue.

Also, if you guys rent you dont have to deal with crazy neighbors who try to poison your dog. :-/
  • Anna, can you go earlier than 48 hours before, just to ease that off your mind?  Aren't most good for 3 months or so?
