Wedding Woes

Holiday Monday

Who's here?  DH is off work, but not me.  At least he can keep DefConn entertained.

It's still registering -2 out there.  Brrrr.

Weekend was quite low-key.  Lots of relaxing.  I worked some OT.  DH is deep into rewatching Game of Thrones, so we watched a couple episodes over the weekend.  I'm not as committed to rewatching, but I'll drop in.   The kiddo is on his way back from skiing with my parents over the weekend.

The championship games were utter bullshit this weekend.  The officiating was terrible and completely contributed to the outcome of the games.  I have zero interest in watching the Superbowl.

Re: Holiday Monday

  • I'm here. We got about 3" of snow Saturday and then a whole bunch of freezing rain on Sunday. It was 2 degrees when I got up this morning.

Weekend was good. Ran a bunch of errands Saturday. Got my roots touched up. We went into the city Saturday night to have dinner with my MIL. Sunday we just relaxed and I made chili for dinner.
  • Yeah it's cold as shit out there. And I agree too that yesterday was an officiating shitshow. How long do we have to deal with this before we get actual fulltime refs?

I had a great weekend. Took my bra off when I got home Friday night and never put another one on until this morning. We purged a ton more shit, cleaned out the bar and the garage so H's truck can get in there again now.

  • I never understood why most workers don't get "bank holidays" off in the US...aka, I'm here.

We did almost nothing this weekend, I didn't even leave the house.  We got probably 8-10  inches of snow, which in the Chicago burbs is not really a "snow event".  For me it was a bit of a let-down.

We watched both games yesterday too and I still can't believe that no call in the STs/rams game and I'm just sick of the Patriots.  Usually watch the super bowl regardless, but since Maroon 5 just keeps getting more terrible there is really nothing I'm excited about.

I need longer days back.  I totally don't mind the cold at all, but I am SO over it being dark when I get up, and when I leave work.

  • We had chili Saturday.  I loosely followed a different recipe and it turned out really freaking good.

YAY no bra weekend and purging.  ;)
  • Ugh and the Bears have to play in London next year.

Probably because they know Bears fans are well traveled and they're discouraging us from going to Oakland.

  • If anyone needs anything good to watch, I watched both Fyre Festival documentaries. One is on Netflix, and the other on Hulu. I liked them both.
  • I'm here. H is off today, but my office is open, as is Babypants' school. We got about 4" of snow yesterday before it turned into heavy slush.

It froze overnight and now my neighbor's tall pine tree is hanging over our yard. I'm really concerned it could fall this winter and destroy our house - or worse.

I think it's time H & I had one more conversation with this neighbor asking him to take it down since it's obviously diseased. If that conversation doesn't pan out, I am going to send him a certified letter documenting the situation.
  • The weekend was OK.  We got about 6" of snow Friday.  Then the cold temps settled in.  DH and I met friends for breakfast Saturday morning and then ran errands to Walmart and Sam's Club.  Sunday I went to church.

We have a local Cancer Telethon that has been going for 65 years and that was this weekend.  They are on-air for 20 hours and raised just over a million dollars for cancer research.  It's pretty amazing.  The talent ranges from cringe-worthy to good and DH and I watched much of it.

It's 1 degree here today and we have another winter storm watch in effect for late tonight through late tomorrow night.  Expecting another 6" of snow and some light glaze of ice.  Fun times.

DH is home today with a migraine but I'm at work.

  • It’s cold AF here and I’m over it; with windchills we’re at like -20.  We got about 15 inches overall, which for Buffalo is annoying but not terrible.

I do have the day off but I got some blood work done this morning and went for a run. I’m exhausted sand want to take a nap.
  • It was 0 when we left the house.   It was cold enough that my slider doors in the van were frozen and we had to give them a strong pull to get them open.   Ditto for the two front doors.   99% of yesterday's precipitation was rain but now we're at crazy cold.

DH and I are working but Chiquita has no school.   She's at daycare until I pick her up for a play date.   Kiddo is bouncing off the walls super excited.

  • I’m off work today.

Went to the Women’s March on Saturday. The speakers beforehand were great, and the keynote speaker and the senior pastor of the church that was hosting the speakers were good, but I could have done with less preaching from the other pastors they invited to speak. There’s also a guy who dresses up as a knight and shows up to events like that, and he was very loudly harassing some pro-choice activists. I’m glad I went but don’t know how I feel about going next year.

I got home from the march about 4:00 and haven’t left the house since. I made a big pot of vegetable soup, did some organizing in our dining room, and shoveled the sidewalk (we paid someone in the neighborhood to plow the driveway last night).

I’m going to do some more organizing and cleaning today, but for the moment, Pinball is sitting on my chest, so I can’t go anywhere till he moves.
  • I'm sure you all can guess my feelings about the Saints vs. Rams game, smh.  I'm also not happy to see the Patriots in the SB.  Again.  My H asked who we should root for in the SB.  I looked at him with sad, dead eyes and replied, "I think we should FF the game and just watch the commercials."

No holiday for me.  Work, as usual.

Of course, no snow stories from me.  We actually had great weather through Sat. night.  Though extremely windy on Sat.  Then temps dropped to the high 30s for Sun. morning.  There was ice on my windshield when I left for work.  That's the best I can do, lol.

Realtor.com is making me a liar again, lol.  After swearing off buying anymore properties in East NOLA.  Swearing off buying anymore properties in NOLA, until I at least see how the new short-term rental licensing rules affect the RE market.  Mostly swearing off buying anything less than a 4-plex (which I'd need to save up more for)...

And a desperate seller just listed four duplexes in East NOLA for amazing prices and ROI.  I've already reached out to my realtor about putting in an offer on one of them.  Oh goodness!  Wish me luck.  I think they'll be snatched up fast and I'm probably already too late.

  • Oh yeah, H is not happy about the Super Bowl either.  He has to decide who he hates less, the Patriots or Ndamukong Suh.
  • Yeah - despite living in NE DH and I are NOT Pats fans and I think Tom Brady is a jerk.

The SB is DH's birthday so I think I'll be quiet if we get together w/ local friends who love those lips.

  • I will always root against the Patriots.
  • As a Colts fan, there's nothing more we'd rather see than Brady and Beli-cheat on a one way rocket out of the universe.  I mean, those fuckers own the NFL.  They might as well be co-commissioners.

Oh and fuck Goddell and his ineffective leadership.

I'm not sure how hard/easy this would be, but you all can cut whatever part of the tree that hangs over the property line.

I wouldn't put this in the letter but, if you all are willing, you might offer to help pay for some of the cost if the neighbor will do it by X date.  It certainly should be 100% the neighbor's responsibility.  But, if that's the difference between it getting done or not getting done, I'd begrudgingly help pay for it.

We’ve done this in the past when neighbors have wanted branches down, but the tree guy says the tree is healthy. But the neighborhood was full of very tall old trees so it came up often and people were pretty reasonable about it.

My H’s birthday falls on the super bowl too!  That turns into his party every year- his friends, his favorite foods, etc.
Another person tired of the Patriots here!  Sorry about the Saints S+S!

We didn’t get any snow.  Our forecasts have been so unreliable for a few years now.  We were expecting between 0-24”, like there’s no in between.  It was 3 degrees this morning though. Kids and I are off but I’m out of indoor activities.  Just let them make personal pizzas whose crust I cut into the shape of their first initial.  Now for something that will carry them to bedtime at 7  :#
  • It is currently 1.  Not counting windchill.  It's supposed to get to -5 overnight so we'll be letting some faucets drip.  Thankfully our neighbor used his snowblower on our sidewalks and half of our drive while we were going so there wasn't a huge amount to deal with today.

We spent the weekend at a futsal tournament.  We easily won the first game then proceeded to get our asses handed to us in the next 2.  We have some really whiny boys on the team.  Instead of buckling down and playing the want to yell at a ref for not calling a foul or at each other because someone goofed up.  One kid yelled at 6let for missing  shot.  If that kid had been in position there would have never been a shot.  Same kid and another were arguing and the other team ended up 3 people on the keeper (my kid).  One of our kids even scored on us:(

The silver lining- my keeper kid got a goal!!!!  From his keeper position! He and another kid were about the only two that kept at it even when they were down 25- 4.

  • Also, let's not forget who Brady's BFF is:

I should have added.  I think for a healthy tree, it's a neighbor's responsibility to cut the branches hanging over their own property.  Though it's polite to give the tree owner a heads up (when possible).  And sometimes the tree owner will just do that themselves, which is even more neighborly.

But a diseased tree is a different story because it needs to be taken down, which can only be done from the owner's property.

One of our neighbor's trees hangs over our roof.  My H cuts those branches back about a twice a year.  But it's a healthy tree, so we aren't concerned about it, other than the overhanging branches.  Which I'd admittedly be a lot more annoyed about if we had to hire that work out, even if I'd still feel responsible for it lol.

  • Excerpts from my local peeps:

    • On my NextDoor page, one of the posters said he is going to paint his trash cans a pinstripe...because the refs are garbage.
    • Louisiana Family Eyecare has offered free eye exams to NFL refs.  Here is their statement, “After having time to consider things we will GLADLY provide no cost eye exams to all NFL officials prior to next season to prevent the atrocity that occurred tonight. We would hate for someone else to feel our pain,” the Facebook post read.

  • Clinic today. I’m still under the weather. I’ll probably only stay until 2. I feel really stressed for some reason, which probably isn’t helping me get any better. We had brunch at Marie Callender’s yesterday for FMIL and omg it was awful. They had the worst food. FBIL chose the location, so we assumed he had made reservations (the “we’re good to go at X location for X time and X # of people” gave us that impression). We show up, they tell us they don’t take reservations and we had to wait. Never again.

I hope everyone is staying warm and dry!

Yup.   I think Tom is attractive and charismatic and good.   But his attractiveness and charisma are what help him to avoid any punishment for his involvement with the team's cheating.   And while I have no proof he stuck me as a jerk after he broke up with his ex GF when she was pregnant.
One of the greatest things that happened in our run up to our only SuperBowl win was when a local radio station called the Pats as a prank about a paternity test that needed to be done for Tom Brady.  The news of her pregnancy hadn't come out yet, but they had broken up like a month prior.  The person on the phone sounded so freaked out and asking all sorts of questions.  Then a week later the news broke that she was pregnant with his child.

But yeah, it very much seemed that he ditched her as soon as Gisele came along.  Moynahan handled that shit with such grace.  I mean, I'm sure she gets $$$ in child support because of their income disparity, but she could have dragged him so hard because the optics were do bad.  And she never has.  Unlike Gisele, who has said some pretty dumb/problematic shit about a lot of things.
  • I don't have anything personally against Brady or Bellichick or anyone, I'm just sick of 'em. I actually was rooting for them the year after Deflate Gate because whether you like them or not, they're both arguably among the best EVER, if not THE greatest ever. But I'm over it. I'm over talking about what Brady eats and doesn't eat. I'm over talking about how old he is and what the opposing quarterback was doing the year he entered the league. I acknowledge that the Patriots over the last 15 years have been absolutely incredible.

I also kind of laugh because when I'm old and my nieces and nephews and their kids are talking about old-timey sports and going, "WOW Auntie Cold, you're SO OLD! You were alive when Tom Brady was playing?! What was it like?!" and I'll be like, "It was boring. They were too good and they just pissed everyone else off".

True, but it's a good 60% of the tree that is leaning over our property line. It's a 100'+ tall pine that has been dropping excessive amounts of sap and huge branches multiple times per year in the 3 years we've owned the house.

But agreed. For peace of mind, I would totally help pay for tree removal if that's what it takes to get it done. And I am definitely not going to tell him that - at least not right away lol.
