Wedding Woes

Tuesday

Tuesday continues to prove itself the worst day ever.  I did not want to get up this morning.  I really would love to work 9-6, I'd just be so much more happy in the morning.

Our gaming/stay inside weekend was good.  We played 3 new games: 7 Wonders Duel (awesome), Villainous (awesome) and Unstable Unicorns (this one is so fun, but everyone better be able to handle competition game play, b/c it's wicked as hell.  I destroyed K's stable in 2 turns and kept them from winning).  I cannot live on chicken nuggets, taquitos, and candy though.  I only gained a pound back, but my digestive system is not happy with me.

So, i had gone out a couple of times to my local bar when it reopened (it's been about 2 weeks).  I ran the equation in my head and it was worth it (won't go into here).  However, I only live a few hours from that effin' Lake of the Ozarks BS from this weekend and I am locking all the way back down to just work/home and pick up for anything else.  I had already planned an eyebrow appointment on Friday and I'm going to keep that and I have a couple of doctor's appointments coming up that I really do need to keep (dermatologist and OB).  The one lucky thing is that most of those tourists are from StL area.  Surrounding areas don't send as many tourists there.  I'm just hoping it's not a damn epicenter, but I really can't see how it doesn't.

@VarunaTT,  I hear you on the 9-6 schedule!  One of my least favorite things about working is not getting enough sleep because I get up too early.  While I understand I should just go to bed earlier, I've found it is not that simple because my body still naturally gravitates to wanting to get up later in the morning.

I'm sorry you are having to lock down harder because of the monumental stupidity of other people.  And for all the people bitching about how we're "losing our freedom".  Well. Yeah.  When people can't be trusted to act responsibly for the greater good, then we have to keep things locked down longer.  Now I just saw a pic of around 200 people in crowded stands at the Ace Speedway event in NC, smh.

@charlotte989875, your all's anniversary sounds so awesome!  I'm glad you all were able to make it special, despite the circumstances.

Edited to add: @banana468, good luck to your dad!  Glad to hear he is is improving.

I wrote a novel for my post yesterday, lol.  But today, not much new going on.  We heard from one of our tenants yesterday that there was some incident a few doors down.  Tons of police cars, including SWAT.  Aaaahhh!  Nothing on the local news sites about it, so not sure what was going on.

But in good local news, the curve in NOLA has been deeply flattened.  At one point in time, we had one of the fastest growing outbreaks in the world.  But now we've gone from an average of 100 people a day going to the hospital for COVID to an average of 9 people.  We also had five days in a row with no deaths from the disease.  The current expectation is Louisiana will be entering Phase 2 (we have 3 phases in our state) sometime in early June.

  • @VarunaTT I feel you on the digestive system taking a hit .... crap eating catches up regardless how.

@charlotte989875 what are you doing for nursery?

    I'm having some lock-down frustrations.
We had planned BabyKitten's bday really well - take her to a fun museum, out to lunch and then post nap get a treat - but obv cannot do that now :(
I'm ordering fun donuts for us, and we're gonna do a big facetime to sing happy bday to her. We'll do that Saturday even though her bday is Thursday, just with timing for everyone.

I'm just annoyed. We're still doing what we can though.

I ordered Amazon Prime so we have prime video and quick shipping. I more got it for the prime video tbh but we'll see. I enjoy ordering xmas stuff on Amazon, so it'll probably be good in the long run lol

BabyKitten had a meltdown last night for bed and M got her to settle eventually. Idk what happened .... we're gonna see how she is tonight and go from there
  • I see so many people commenting about the mask-wearing with some BS "don't tread on me this is taking away my choice" line.   That's here in liberal CT!

MO is just a clusterfuck, basically.  K and I wear our masks everywhere and we get glared at every time.  IDK why, but K endures a lot of street harassment anyway and has had to leave a few places b/c they felt so uncomfortable.  I haven't had that issue, but I think age and RBF helps me.  I had to go to Walgreens for Rx on Saturday and we had someone try to stare us down.  IDK what my eyeballs told that woman and her husband, but they backed down the aisle pretty quickly.  I was so pissed about it, I almost followed them to ask WTF was their problem, but conceal/carry is a thing and I don't want to endanger my, or anyone else's lives.  I don't even understand why those who don't want to wear a mask, care so much that I do.  They're all for "freedom" except when it comes to me making my choice that disagrees with theirs.

I have told K that when my parents pass, I want to move away.  I'm hoping for Southern CA or Oregon and K is partial to the West Coast as well.  I just have to get someplace more liberal.
WTH?!?!  I don't even understand that.  I've know some people have an attitude about being forced to wear a mask.  There is a 120+ post thread on my Nextdoor about masks (eyeroll).  But no one was arguing that everyone should be maskless.

My favorite comment on the thread was someone who acknowledged people being upset about their "freedoms".  But also pointed out that people can both think these policies are wrong and still choose to wear a mask because it's the right thing to do.  With the final entreaty being something like "Please don't make masks political.  Please just wear them as a courtesy to others.  Especially the frontline workers who ring up your groceries or hand you your take-out order."

  • Tuesday is definitely the worst day. We went over to SIL's house yesterday and had peach bellinis. I probably should have had twice as much water and half as much bellini. I'm dragging today.

Otherwise, it was a great weekend. We had some friends and their dogs over on Friday. The pup had a blast! It was a little too warm for the fire I wanted, but we enjoyed hanging out on the deck. For our anniversary we made steak and had a gorgeous sunset.

I'm super stoked that the dining room table is coming tomorrow. I didn't spring to pay someone to put it together, so that's probably going to be this weekend's project. I'm so excited for that room to start to come together. Next will be a new chandelier.
  • We’re doing a sort of Forrest/Where The Wild Things are them @MissKittyDanger! I can’t free hand paint at all so we’re doing birch trees instead of the trees from the book but then we’re getting a bunch of stuff off Etsy to decorate. Here’s the work in progress!

I love this!  That is so cute and creative with the painted trees throughout the room.

  • @charlotte989875 Oh so cute!!!

@VarunaTT there's gonna people stupid people everywhere. Neither of you should endure harassment regardless.
They've been saying online people who don't wear a mask will have a stigma soon, because they're ones who can't really explain why they aren't wearing it {ie; asthma, etc} There is literally no winning :(
  • @MyNameIsNot I have the same issue with peach bellini's :\
  • @charlotte989875 so cute! Are you free handing or stenciling them?
  • @charlotte989875 I love the trees!!  So cute :)

This weekend was great and actually felt super long.  It has started to get too hot (for me) already though.  75 with 75% humidity is about my max comfort level.  It's already 85 this morning...blech. BUT, we finally got our grill fixed so we grilled a bunch, took some walks, got a ton of stuff done around the house, and relaxed a lot too. So overall, just that minor complaint!

We're talking about visiting my parents in a couple weeks to stay for a week or two.  They've been great at isolating/distancing - dad has been doing all the grocery runs and has to go into work occasionally, mom and grandma have literally been nowhere.  They haven't seen the babe in 3 months, we need to get out of suburbia, and need to get some work done.  Hoping rates in both states continue to decrease and we all still feel comfortable with the plans as it gets closer.

MIL/FIL will flip a shit bc we continue to push off seeing them.  But MIL has been traveling for a work (healthcare) the last couple weeks (SILs both confirmed) and hasn't told us - and actually, last time we talked she made a big deal about how her company is doing virtual trainings for the foreseeable future.....*eyeroll*.  So mostly we don't trust them to tell us what they've actually been doing.  I think omitting that info is still lying and we already told her we wouldn't see her if she continued to do that.  I just cant with them sometimes.

Dont' want to jinx myself but work seems fairly light this week.
  • Trying to figure out what my summer is going to look like. My dream vacation (sailing in Croatia) is a no, any decent vacation rentals near me are booked. I’d be open to camping but I do not have friends who are into that. So a pretty quiet and close to home summer hopefully means time for reading and crafting and seeing my immediate family outside.

Everyone here is wearing masks inside and outside if you’re walking some place crowded. I like to give places the benefit of the doubt- I know in some pics are parks and beaches look crowded when in person people are spread out, but Lake of the Ozarks looks like a disaster. And also hideous.
My H and I have been talking about spending a long weekend on the Gulf Coast of FL in the late summer.  Assuming things get better and not worse, I think that would be pretty safe and doable.  The more we've thought about it, the more we've realized that this is a fairly solitary type of vacation.

When we've gone in the past, we spent our time either on the beach or in a vacation condo (with a full kitchen) that looks out on the ocean.  As long as we stay social-distanced from others at the beach, it's not any different than when we are at home.  Only going out for groceries and occasionally take-out.

Thanks! I’m stenciling them, I have zero art skills.

WTF.  Just do it, it's not a huge ask.

Yay for everyone's nice weekends!  UO here on the 9-6...maybe it's all these years of having to be at work by 7:15-30...I like an early start.
@charlotte989875 the nursery is adorable!  @VarunaTT wow they all suck.  Sending vibes to everyone in difficult areas.  The Ozarks looked like a mess.  @banana468 glad your dad is improving

On Saturday I was reclining reading a book and my son came hurtling onto me at top speed and all 37lbs landed on my left knee.  Crunch.  It's hyperextended and just not getting better.  It's at its best when I wake up but as the day goes on and I'm on it, it really hurts.  I never lost feeling in my lower leg/foot so I don't think there's nerve damage/anything too serious, but if this wasn't a pandemic and I felt safe going to a First Med I'd go.  Ugh.
  • There is a really big swath of anti-science in my particular part of the country.  Most of it is based in religion, TBH.  I'd like to say, Oh, it's just part of the that "show-me" rebelliousness or we had some sort of secret government experiment that we were lied to about, but it's really not that.  This is the place where people will tell you they're safe b/c they're "bathed/washed in the blood of Jesus."  The religion here is mostly evangelical and is closely aligned with the Republican Party.  Evangelicals have pushed for decades for straight up anti-science legislation, books being banned from library systems, stringent laws trying to limit abortion, and the Republican exchange their support for that bullshit (which so many of them don't really believe in) and used that power to send less and less money to education and other support systems for the not-rich as well as taxcuts for wealthy individuals and corporations, and it's all starting to show the results.  Not being part of a church system here is a thing to be judged on and relying on science over religion is a thing to be judged on. Sinquefield is in our state and is dangerous AF with his monies and ideas (he helped create the KS budget travesty) and the Koch Brothers like to play here too.

A few people said that on the Nextdoor thread I referenced.  Including someone who claimed to be a medical doctor.

From what I've read, it's true that neither a cloth mask nor even the surgical-type disposable masks can filter out as small a particle as the COVID-19 virus.  However, they can protect against droplets caused by sneezing/coughing/talking.

It not perfect protection.  Nobody claims it is.  But it's at least something and, if the CDC recommends it, I'm doing it.
    Right?

And for those who tout religion as a reason to ignore science do any of these people take Aspirin? OTC meds?  See a doctor?  Get treatments for ANY illnesses?

Oh, so for all of those other things you'll do what the doctor says but you spoke to an ultrasound technician who completed a 2 year associates degree that gives no training or understanding of infectious diseases but because she's not wearing a mask you're going to listen to her?  OK.

Yeah, the masks aren't perfect but I have followed other preventive measures like getting vaccinated and wearing a seat belt because it's far better to trust scientists who have data to back up a study.

"I hate my job" meets "Jen, you are so lucky to have a job at this time. Jen, you are so lucky to have a job at this time. Jen, you are so lucky to have a job at this time."

I got four emails from a boss who is one of those "fine-tooth combs" types, plus, she's not good at communicating what she wants. I saw them in my work email over the weekend. One of them was for a client who presented sloppy information and failed to provide some shit my boss was demanding. So I'm stuck in the fucking middle.

    No way to win.
  • @Casadena that is adorable.

  • Banana - That's great news for your dad!

Charlotte - Love the nursery idea!  Its looking great!

We had a nice weekend.  Sunday we had the BBQ with ILs.  We stayed outside and it all worked out well.  We had our own little areas in the backyard to eat in and move the benches and chairs closer while we were sitting around chatting.  I know DD loved being able to see everyone, "her people" as she calls them.

Monday we started to replace the drawer boxes that I bought for two of our drawers.  They have never really worked right.  We did good installing the new drawer slide, but ended up putting the drawer front on crooked.  So we left it and will deal with it next weekend!  We will also probably install the other drawer box too.  Its funny, I bought such nice drawer boxes, the amount the drawer holds is slightly less than before!
