Wedding Woes

Thursday

I'm reading through Prudie and the first two letters are lit.  Either people are getting better at MUD or everyone is truly losing it.

It's my Friday.  I'm off tomorrow and I need to get my house in order since DH's cousin is coming into town.

The weather is going to be gorgeous this weekend.  I think we're going to go hiking on Saturday.

Podcast rec: Wind of Change.  It's about how the CIA may have written the power ballad "Wind of Change" as anti-communist propaganda.  It's captivating.  There's a lady interviewed who was a disguise specialist that I want to meet so she can tell me all the stories.

Re: Thursday

  • That podcast sounds interesting!

I woke up and thought it was Friday. Whomp whomp.

Fuckface's lawyer still hasn't responded to my lawyer's letter from Tuesday morning. Can't say I'm surprised. I just want this to be over already! I have no peace in this house, ever. I've been staying at my brother's as much as I can, but his 3 cats are killing my allergies. On days when I stay there, I take 2 allergy pills, but still wake up with a swollen face.

Sorry @climbingwife , you must be so drained.  I hope it starts to pick up although not surprised FF is dragging this out (not to mention the real estate lawyer or whatever kind of lawyer he hired prob doesn't know what's happening).

Heading to my school's parade for the seniors in a bit.  Class schedules were altered and mountains were moved for it to be today, so even though there's torrential rain in the forecast we were told to bring umbrellas.  (The students aren't getting out of their cars so at least they won't get wet.)  Wrapping my poster in contact paper so the paint doesn't run since all the art supplies in my house are super waterproof.
  • @mrsconn23 I'm really enjoying Winds of Change too.  They have the entire podcast on Spotify (I'm not sure what platform you use) and I think I've already listened to most of it.

We are doing training for a new software program.  I'm just a million percent both irritated with and over, how my management team has once again decided the most incompetent and inefficient way to roll into a totally brand new software program AND have pulled over incompetent ways of doing things into the new program.  I wish they'd stop putting people who haven't done my job in 10+ years in charge of anything related to the nuts and bolts of doing my job.  It's making it hard to want to do a damn thing this week.

We have a date night tomorrow, doing pottery!  I'm excited for it.  The studio is limiting it to 4 people total, so IDK who is with us tomorrow, though I have friends who were talking about joining us.  K works on Saturdays and I've been sitting on my butt during the weekend.  I might have a friend over Saturday night though.  Other than that, SSDD for today.
  • We had massive storms last night but it finally cooled down a bit.

Work is a shitshow today and I have to leave in the middle for a doctors appointment. Not a great day to be running on very little sleep!

That all sucks @climbingwife, does his lawyer have to respond within a given timeframe?
  • I'm listening on Stitcher, but I know it's all on Spotify.  I'm on episode 3 or 4.  I'll jump to Spotify if I run out.

I'm not really sure? I'm sure there's got to be some kind of guideline. But I don't want to ask my lawyer as it will cost me money...hahaha.

    Haha that’s a reasonable strategy!

    The waiting has to suck.
  • Climbing - I hope you can find some peace and quiet soon.  At least you can partially escape to your brother's house.

Last night H and I got to go out to BJs to purchase some bulk goods.  Thanks to the $20 credit on my account, we were able to get out of there with less than $200 spent.  We also got some good dinner options for the whole crew that is here.  My brother and I have been taking turns on dinner, but we didn't have a lot of options for the 8 people living here right now!

I am taking a yoga class tonight and that will be so lovely!  I can't wait!

How are they doing? That has to be pretty scary and unnerving.

They all seem to be doing really well actually!  They are finding the humor where they can and trying to laugh through this.  Brother is back to work, he is a food vendor and essential, but he took a few days to help gather stuff from the house.  SIL is a teacher and finishing up this week.  They both say work is helping to feel normal again.

The kid's bedrooms were all ok, so I think it would have been much different if their stuff was destroyed.  They were able to have all of their clothes and toys saved.  The kids are loving being around my 2 dogs as well, especially Cassie, who is loving all the newfound attention!

SIL is also excited about getting the outside of her house re-done!  It was a barn red and she always hated it!  LOL!  They will also probably be able to get a better AC system for their master bedroom, since it was not done properly when the previous owner put in the addition for the master.  So they are just focusing on the positives that are coming out of this.

Yeah if you’re allergic to cats, there’s no way to avoid it. Cat hair and dander gets everywhere! Sorry it’s so stressful right now @climbingwife

I think our weather will be nice too.  The appraiser FINALLY got a hold of me and will be here in 1-2 hours. They didn’t listen to the email/text request my banker asked because I came back from the bathroom and saw that # 3 times in 2 minutes.  Figured it was important to I called back. It’s such a catch 22 because I’m looking for a home equity line to IMPROVE my house, so it’s not going to get appraised as high as I want it I bet. I need that money to make the improvements.

now, my kitchen drawer face has fallen off and the wood is stripped so I can’t screw it back in. So I have it taped to the wood! Will they open up drawers? It’ll fall on his foot if he does.

  • @climbingwife I hope everything gets resolved soon. I know it must be emotionally exhausting.

Well last night one of the homes in our neighborhood went up in flames. I think probably a gas leak? Because it went from insanely high flames to almost out in a matter of seconds, making me think that was the gas line being turned off. I don’t think I’ve seen so many people in our neighborhood before. And I feel so bad for the family. FI and I were walking to look and of course there was traffic on the street. I heard a couple in their car talking with their windows rolled down “oh wow, look at that. Wait a second...OH FUCK, that’s our house!!!” They immediately pulled over and just took off sprinting towards their home. How awful. I feel so bad for them. But FI needs to work on his words. He ran into the house yelling “fire! There’s a fire!” My man, am I grabbing the pets? The fire extinguisher? Use your words.

Otherwise not too much different here today. I’m glad it’s almost the weekend. For some reason I have terrible cramps this morning. My period finished on Sunday, too.

This happened at my house yesterday.
The maple is still standing; we're not sure if the white pine it fell on will survive.

I'm working on my script for my next video for work-distance learning (shooting tonight in my living room) .
I spent several hours yesterday learning the science of curing polymer clay
  • I'm finally getting involved for real in the work project I was pissed about a few weeks ago.  Nice to feel helpful and productive and be recognized for actually having a little expertise in an area I've been working on for years.
  • @climbingwife, I know it's frustrating now, but the end will come soon.  When one of my friends was going through her divorce, her ex kept purposely prolonging it.  He was a high 6-figures earner, so it was NBD for him to throw a few hundred bucks at his lawyer for every pointless, tiny motion he filed.  But that was a big financial burden for my friend.  At one point she yelled in frustration to her attorney, "Why is he doing this?!?!  Why won't he just let it end!"  Her attorney told her, "Do you know why he's doing this?  Because it is the last piece of control he has over you."  And that was true.  They didn't have children.  So, once the divorce and its terms were over, she could walk away and never speak even one more word to him.  He thought very highly of himself and knowing that is ex-wife of all people was going to walk away without even a second glance was way too much for his little ego to handle.

My usual never-ending list of stuff to do personally.  Work (knock on wood) is at least going on track.  A decent amount of work to do, but nothing overwhelming or stressful.  Unfortunately, it's times like these when it is such a hindrance they moved me from an office to cubeland.  In an office, I could make all the personal phone calls I needed to make, while working at my computer.  But in cubeland, I don't have that luxury.  Short, brief phone calls are okay.  However, longer ones need to wait until lunch because even speaking softly, it's disruptive to others.  Plus my coworkers can't necessarily see that I'm still working, even if I'm on the phone for 20-30 minutes.

Exciting things going on in NOLA!  We are in "Phase 2" as of Saturday.  And what does that mean?  Everything is open, except stadiums and no gatherings of (I think) more than 50 people.  Bars, movie theatres, and casinos can now be open at 25% capacity.  I think businesses, like restaurants, that were already allowed to open can go to 50% capacity now.  And my city has been very diligent about looking only at COVID statistics to determine phases and not bowing to pressure from businesses.  So I feel good trusting them.

Harrahs has already sent me an e-mail that they will open at 10AM on Sat., lol.  To give them credit, the e-mail went into a lot of detail about what to expect and the differences that their players will see.  I'm not going on Sat. but, I gotta admit, I'm planning to go after work one day next week.  I feel pretty safe with it.  I'll only play video poker and all the machines have been either reconfigured or turned off so there is at least 6' of social distancing.  Everyone is required to wear masks, staff and customers.  They will even have masks available at the entries.  Plus I am going to bring multiple pairs of disposable gloves to wear and dispose of them each time I switch to another machine.

My H and I still haven't gone back to a restaurant for dine-in, but we're planning to in the near future.

  • @levioosa, omg!  I can't imagine how shocking it must have been for that family.  At least they weren't in the house and hopefully no one else was.

@GBCK, that's a huge branch!  At least it even missed the swing set, lol.  I love your yard!  So much space and I like the landscaping.

  • Good news, it turns out it was just the garage that burned down. We weren’t able to get close enough to tell yesterday. It still sucks but it could have been so much worse. I’m so glad the family still has their home.

  • I saw that Vegas was opening up but no tables and I can’t remember what capacity it was at?

appraiser left and no, he didn’t need to open the drawers.  This was legit me, watching him drive away, and then going into my kitchen to rip the taped drawer face off to get a spoon to stir my coffee with!

I thought they were opening the tables also in Vegas, just with fewer seats.

They will be opening the tables at Harrahs New Orleans, but will have few enough seats so there can be 6' of social distancing between them.

Come to think of it, I think they said the machines are going to be at least 10' apart, instead of 6' (for NOLA).  I mean, hey.  Since it can only be 25% capacity anyway, why not spread it out.

@levioosa, thanks for the update.  All things considered, that had to have been a major relief for the family that it was just the garage.

  • Btw, don’t know if this helps anyone.

Tennis. We should all just be playing tennis.

    right-the swingset save!
(And the sings are INCREDIBLY important.  They're really the #1 way for my kid to get back control of herself when she needs to be centered--I send her out on swing duty occasionally.  "you can come inside if you swing for 5 minutes."

We did tons of work for the appraiser to do a drive by recently.  It was frustrating and it was a relief.  (we finished the refi, and all is well)

I can't believe bowling is only a 5.  I mean, I guess if you have your own ball.   But if you don't, you're sticking your fingers in the holes where everyone else's fingers go. Blech.

I also find that Pontoon boating was singled out to be funny.  I mean, we have a speed boat that can only hold about 7-8 people.  We've only taken ourselves with FIL and the kiddo out so far.  I will say that there has been varying levels boats tied off as party barges.  I feel I'm seeing it less than last year.

I also found that oddly very specific, lol.

I'm surprised hotels are only 3.  I get that in one's own room it's fairly safe.  But hotels always seem like they are full of people everywhere you go, in all the common areas.

    And ordering takeout @CharmedPam ;)

Yikes so scary, especially right near the swing set!  Unrelated but beautiful landscaping @GBCK   Sending vibes to everyone @OliveOilsMom and that's so scary @levioosa
  • My parents have been in some hotels recently and the ones they have been to have been 50% capacity, no continental breakfasts and they bring you everything you need.
    Here’s one I don’t get:
AMC said they wanted to open up end of July. I’m a premiere so I pay one set price and can chose 3 movies a week.  That’s a lot even to a movie go-er.  Now, my ex and I were polite and when we booked a movie and changed our minds. We’d ask for a “refund” even though it wasn't money lost, just 1 out of 3 on the spots.  But we found out not everyone gave up their seats and just ended up not showing.  If they can only open 25% capacity, they’re going to want every possible seat filed. How are they going to stop premiere members from booking and not going? @VarunaTT  I imagine your pass is like this too?

  • @Casadena Glad to know I'm staying safe with the sheer amount of takeout I've been ordering!

Regal hasn't announced opening yet and they haven't announced how they intend to handle it.  I had found a FB group for the Unlimited members that seems to have Regal powering it and they just keep saying to hold on.  Also, my particular Regal doesn't require booking seats, so IDK how they're going to handle it all all.  There's also a rumor that Regal just might not restart the program at all and figure out something to do for all of the people who did their year up front (I did month-to-month).  But I have also bought tickets to movies I had no intention of seeing (even in theaters not in my town), b/c it was "free" and I got 500-2000 loyalty points per movie, which worked me up to a free/reduced movie ticket for when K did want to go with me.  (If I do have to book the ticket seat, I try to pick the corners in back/front rows where someone is probably glad I didn't show).

    TL;DR: I don't know either.
