Today is a shit show. I walked into work and instantly was bombarded with a ton of staffing issues. Patients are being super rude. And my mom just texted me that my dad came back positive for covid. I didn’t even know he had been testing. And now I’m super worried because he’s had a heart attack and he has uncontrolled diabetes. My mom is extremely immunosuppressed and out of remission for her leukemia. And that means my elderly grandparents were exposed when everyone went over for Father’s Day. So my attempt to be conservative and avoid putting them at risk was in vain.
Damn, that really sucks! Do you think it was FSIL that infected everyone? Is she feeling differently about her behavior now?

I really hope your parents and grandparents have a mild case and don’t develop any severe symptoms.
This was my family get together, so FSIL wasn’t in contact with them at all. I guess my dad has had six coworkers test positive now. He’s had pretty mild symptoms considering. He did have chest pain which scared him. I just amazon primed an O2 sensor to them since my other one is at my grandparent’s house now. I’m really worried about my mom who was already struggling with cellulitis last week. She’s just so fragile and her body can’t take many insults.
Wow, that’s terrifying he’s had so many coworkers test positive and the company is still having people work closely together.  Really hoping your Mom is okay. Are they able to isolate from one another or by this point do you expect that she already has it?
  • @levioosa, I'm so sorry about your dad. Will be thinking good thoughts toward swift recovery and not infecting your mom.

There’s not too much they can do to isolate from each other right now. My dad’s work was already having people rotate days and times at the office, so there were only 3-5 people on the entire floor at a time. They were even getting him set up to work two days from home in addition to all of that. It was just virulent enough that it looks like it’s getting everyone. My mom is having non-specific symptoms that could be her usual health stuff, but with COVID it’s hard to tell if she’s feeling poorly because she’s having a bad day, or if it’s actually COVID.

  • Next week, the Cheesecake Factory has a great deal going on.  It's two double cheeseburgers, two orders of fries, two soft drinks, and a single slice of Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake for $20.  Also good for take-out or delivery.  I'm picking that up for dinner next Fri.  It runs from Mon. 6/29-(I think) Sun. 7/5.
That’a a dang good deal! I could even give away the burger and fries and eat that slice on my own.

I need to find some friends who aren’t afraid to go out.

  • @charlotte989875 idk if you have a plan for diapers, but I recently started using the brand Hello Bello and wish I had known before. They've got online shop and it's really good pricing and amounts :)

*also attn to anyone with littles that are still in diapers!*

Leftovers?  Though probably only the 2nd burger would be good for that.

I was just telling my H about it last night and how, if I were Queen, they could keep the drinks and one of the fries and give us TWO slices of that cheesecake.

Just as a coincidence, our next topic of conversation was him talking about he's been getting a little bit of a paunch.

I said, "You know what that means, right?"
He looked at me a little confused and said, "No."
Me (totally joking), "I'm not sharing that piece of cheesecake with you!"

  • So sorry to hear this @levioosa.  But uncontrolled diabetes what do you mean by that? I have diabetes so covid and diabetes always piques my interest

Uncontrolled DM meaning his A1C is high, he isn’t compliant with diet and exercise, or his medications at times. The higher your A1C the greater the risk and the more damage it’s doing to your body. It’s a really destructive disease if uncontrolled. It’s why providers push so hard to get their patients on a plan with proper diet, exercise, and meds. One of the things it does is affect the blood vessels in the body, making them susceptible to injury. This in turn causes things like eye damage, kidney damage, slow healing injuries, and pain. If you eat healthy and exercise and take your meds, and your A1C is at or below goal, you’re in such a better place for the future. And of course the damage is cumulative, so when my dad (or all of my patients) say “well it’s good now! I’ve been eating good this month!” It’s discouraging because it’s helpful, but it won’t undo the 10 years your A1C was >11 and you ate chips and burgers every day. And then the patients feel discouraged and it hurts with their new compliance as they start to see the effects. So why change now? Couple all of that in with healthcare disparities, socioeconomic issues, and the insane cost of insulin or other drugs that are better quality (type 2 DM only) and you can see how and why it becomes such a complex disease to manage. It’s also a long game disease, and when people don’t feel the effects of taking care of it immediately, it makes them less likely to think about the future. Plus who honestly wants to avoid all of the best food out there?

Ugh I'm really sorry @levioosa I'm really sorry.  That's a lot.  All the T&P to your parents (and grandparents).
  • @levioosa I am so sorry to hear this.  I'm pray that your dad and mom don't get hit hard with this.  How stressful!  I'm surprised they haven't completely shut down your dad's work if this is what is happening - that is a lot of cases from just one place!

  • My sister was planning a visit this weekend since her birthday is on Sunday, but her town, which has been Covid free for the past two months (except for 2 cases in May) has had an outbreak because of a nail salon.  So now there are 16 cases there, and the nail salon had 500 clients go through recently and any of them could have gotten it.  Fun times.  Hopefully it stays with just 16 cases and this doesn't get significantly worse for them.  It is crazy how fast things change with this virus.
