Wedding Woes

TGIF

We made it!
I woke up to the Trump Covid news and was excited (hoping of course he wouldn't die but that it would give him hell, but I wanted him to make it to November to feel defeat).  Only for that to be squashed by my coworkers in the faculty room a little while ago...they feel he made it up for sympathy/to get out of debates.  Which would be very like him.  Ugh.
A nice mix of some fun weekend plans + downtime on tap for me; hope ya's all have good Fridays and weekends too!

Re: TGIF

  • Happy Friday! Nothing on plan for this weekend, or any weekend haha. And I can't really blame covid that much, we just don't do a lot. Well in the past we had museum memberships but I let both of those lapse and don't plan to renew until maybe next year.

Feel like we should do something fall-ish but the place we normally go isn't really taking precautions or limiting people so not sure that's a great idea. Luckily B doesn't seem to know or care that we don't do a lot haha. We did go to playgrounds more but I've offered and every time I say let's go he doesn't want to for some reason.
  • Somewhere in the White House Huey Lewis' "Stuck With You" is playing on repeat.

  • I literally just woke up 30 minutes ago! I can't remember the last time I slept that late. I didn't sleep well the last couple of nights so when H got up I guess I just knocked out.  One week from today y'all, I'm released from the hamstring sling!!!!

@ei34 the first thing H told me was that Trump has Covid. I hope he is faking it for sympathy. Not that I wish anyone to die but what happens in the election if he does die? He probably won't though. I mean he'll have the best of care. Maybe it will make him more aware?? (I know, silly me).

@kvruns, a friend of mine met her grand daughter, S and SIL at the zoo the other day (had to have an appointment) and said it was great. There is a time limit and number of people are limited. They went in the morning. She said it was chilly but a lot of the animals were out and mobile.  You could look into doing that if your kids are into the zoo.

Nothing much going on this weekend. We are boring.

Pence becomes President and the Republicans nominate whomever they want as a replacement. The party has protocols in place for replacing a candidate.

I’m not sure if you were really asking but I knew the answer!
  • @ILoveBeachMusic I've heard the zoo is nice, I just hate how expensive it is for a single visit. A membership makes more sense (we had one 2 years ago and then switched to the Children's Museum) but I don't want to buy one now heading into winter since it won't really get used.

woah I just looked up prices and for the 3 of us it would be $70 + parking. That's just so cost prohibitive for so many families.
  • We watch the Today show in the mornings while working and omg they've been covering the Trump covid results the whole freaking morning. There's so much speculation it is ridiculous "we've never seen a President so sick so soon". All we know is he tested positive, beyond that who knows. I know they need something for drama but seriously it seems to be overreaching right now.
  • Not much here either; no real plans for the weekend. It’s cold and raining here so I’m waiting for a bit of a break before heading out for our morning walk.

I went to BJs (similar to Costco but we don’t have one here) yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how good people with distancing, masks, sanitizer. I’m a little behind everyone else here but slowly, carefully reentering the world.
  • H was literally giddy this morning over the news that Trump has Covid. However, no matter what happens, nothing good will come of this. I still can't even think about November because it's too stressful.

Looking forward to the weekend. I had to come into the office every day this week (haven't done that since January before maternity leave) and I get to end the week with an open enrollment meeting at 4 pm and an hour long drive home after.

We're going to take the baby apple picking this weekend. We found out that there's an orchard about 10 minutes (over the one that's 30 minutes away) and we can socially distance being outside. They require masks, only one person in line to checkout, etc. It's supposed to be cool but with some sun so I'll bundle up DD and take advantage of doing something outdoors that will help us feel a little more normal.

  • So glad it's Friday. I want to believe the covid announcement is true, but I just don't. The timing is so convenient, it works out for his campaign, etc. Also, I've been thinking about both he and Melania testing positive on the same day. Does that seem suspect to anyone else? I've never been in a situation where I was actively testing for a virus daily, but I feel like any time both H and I catch something, one of us gets sick a few days before the other. Am I just being cynical, or is that odd? Hopefully I'm being jaded and he's telling the truth for once.

Looking forward to a nice weekend. The weather is just fantastic here: 70 and sunny all day, so we're going up to the mountains for some hiking tomorrow and then will have a bonfire tomorrow night with some friends. Hopefully we'll get some yard work done Sunday. I'm really loving being outside right now.
  • I only WISH he'd caught COVID much, much sooner.  I'm not saying that out of bitchiness and pettiness just because I can't stand him.  But maybe if he'd caught it sooner and especially if he ends up getting pretty sick, people would have taken it more seriously early on.  And that would have saved lives and kept many from getting sick at all.

But I also see @banana468's point and that is a concern.  The vast majority of people who contract COVID are either asymptomatic or it's very mild, so there is a good chance he'll fall in that category and it could embolden more of the "it's fake/overexaggerated" bs.

Quite frankly, I think a mini-version of that happened at my workplace.  I know I've been vocal on here at what a short WFH timeframe they did.  And say with words they are taking it seriously, but not with actions.  One of the owners and one of the vice presidents contracted COVID sometime in March/April.  They both had mild symptoms and both basically described it as "I felt a little sick for a week, but it wasn't a big deal."  Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad about that.  But I can't help but wonder if my workplace would have handled things very differently if one of them had a more serious outcome, like hospitalization or death.

But on to lighter things.  I have lunch reservations tomorrow as part of restaurant month.  It's a high end steakhouse (Rib Room) at the French Quarter Omni.  I've been there before, but my H has not.  Their food is amazing, so I'm excited to for him to experience it.  I just confirmed my reservation at Open Table and they had a dress code listed.  I thought you all would find this as hilarious and "wut?" as I did.  The dress code is "Smart Casual".  Okay Rib Room, lmao, whatever that is.  I have never heard that term.  Does that mean everyone needs to wear librarian glasses?  Lol.  I assume they mean business casual but then why not just say that, smh.  Even business casual is kind of a meaningless term because that can be a wide range, but at least people have heard it before.  But that's okay, at least it was my amusement for the morning.

My H is very suspicious also.  He thinks Trump might be lying about the diagnosis to get out of doing any more debates.

I personally think it's true.  But I'd hardly be surprised if it wasn't.

I've been there! I wore a soaking wet sundress, because it was summer and there was a tropical storm. I can't remember what we ate, but I remember enjoying the wine.
  • When DH woke up to go to the gym, I rolled over and looked at my phone and saw the alerts.  I was pretty much awake for about an hour or so and then fell back asleep. I don't even know what to think.  It's literally another thing to throw on dumpster fire that is 2020.  The amount of push notifications are through the roof right now.

OH, one thought I did have...So Tuesday night, our TV started doing something wonky with the picture.  There were weird shadows that made people look very cartoonish.  DH got behind the TV, unplugged stuff, plugged things back in, and it seemed to be fixed.  Watching the debate, I thought he looked unwell for him (there's definitely a scale that only he is on) and chalked it up maybe being residual TV issues. But now, probably not.  Maybe that's why he ran out of steam at the end.

I have a hair appt this afternoon.  DefConn has an outdoor socially distanced bday party this evening.  DH and DefConn are going on a hike with the Scouts tomorrow.  Sunday my family is coming over.  I'm hoping to squeeze in a pedicure and maybe some shopping.
  • I don't know, @MyNameIsNot.  I'm not sure a sundress falls under "Smart Casual", lol.  I'm totally kidding and I'm glad you liked it!  They do have an impressive wine list.

In that context I think Smart Casual just means please don’t wear shorts and sneakers or workout clothes, try and look like you’ve made some effort. I would def do jeans, booties, and a cute top (but I’m sure it’s 40 degrees cooler here than there!)

One of the wildest theories I saw posited was on my local chatter page, and I'm not 100% sure it wasn't just someone being facetious or if they believe it, but they said while Hicks was gone from the WH that she was intercepted by the Chinese and is an operative for them.  She went back so she could get close to him, by trying to seduce him, infect Trump right before the election.  But they didn't clarify which side it was meant to help.  The absurd mental gymnastics was just...wow.

I’m still hoping the “Melania leaked the tax returns” theory is true.
  • @short+sassy for smart casual I think at a minimum nice jeans/shirt/heels or boots. This is basically our office dress code though we call it "dressy denim". No shorts or casual jeans/tshirt/hoodie type stuff but it doesn't have to be dress clothes either.

OMG, did you see the transcripts of the secret recordings of her?!  "Fuck Christmas, fuck those kids in cages"?!

I mean, the "I don't really care, do u?" coat really makes a statement now.
Right? It’s clear how she’s complicit in everything and not a victim here.

Honestly, I'm inclined to think that person is 100% serious in their thought process. I was watching NBC Nightly News with H the other night and they were interviewing farmers in Ohio. One of them stated in the interview that he believes that China created the virus and brought it here to take down the US. It was at that point that I realized how very sheltered I am from true Trump supporters. They will literally believe anything except the fact that he's a terrible president.

We lived in OH for the 2016 election and I 100% believe this is not an isolated belief.
  • So I looked it up, apparently if something happens to him then Pence is not automatically on ballot BUT the likelihood is Republicans would because it's so close.

Haha .... no more rallys ;)

Idk if I mentioned but BabyKitten did really good at the dentist. Bonus is she only had 1 nap, and with her molars she's just really tired.

I have a bit of a headache but my allergies are being rough, so I'm assuming between my eye being sore and sinus' being likely rough, it's that.
  • It's definitely possible that both POTUS and FLOTUS tested and got results at the same time.   It's the result of contact tracing so it's going to come out since both travel together and they're exposed.   We have that right now with my employer since a husband and wife were at an event where they were exposed and they work together so they were tested and received results (positive) at the same time.

Yeah it’s too late to change the ballots- voting has already begun. My ballot is sitting right next to me.  If he dies before the election but still wins, the electoral college chooses his replacement and would choose whoever the Republican Party says. Likely Pence but not necessarily.

That makes perfect sense and is how I assumed it worked.  Pence would automatically be President until the next one is sworn in.  But he wouldn't automatically be put on the ballot, because a person would need to agree to be on the ballot.  With that said, I assume he would and couldn't imagine the Republican party picking someone else.  It will already be extremely disruptive to the Republican ticket if Trump dies or can no longer serve.

However, now I'm wondering what would happen to the ballots of people who have already voted!  What would make the most sense is for their presidential vote to remain with the party ticket they originally chose.  Which I assume is what the vast majority of those voters would want.  But that could also be unfair because I'm there would be at least some voters who didn't vote for Trump, but might have if it was someone else on the Republican ticket.

It's a moot point, though.  That guy isn't dying.

Edited to add:  @STARMOON44, Thanks for answering my question before I asked it in my post, lol.
