Wedding Woes

Ugh, Tuesday

Tuesday’s are still the least fun day, even on leave.

H is not a cat person & I have an 11 y/o long hair (Charlotte). Her litter box is in the basement and H had to clean it while I was pregnant. He, reasonably, hated it. He moved it around, she got pissed and literally pissed where she wasn’t supposed to. He bought a car door for the basement & she hates it. So she’s peed on the floor twice. I’m trying not to be annoyed with H but of course the 11 year old cat doesn’t like change. So after not sleeping most of the night with the baby I cleaned our floors at 7am. Happy Tuesday friends.

Re: Ugh, Tuesday

  • I woke up with a migraine, and it isn't going away.  I think it will be a sick day for me ...

  • I hope this is the last straw your H needs to just put things back the way they were!  Poor Charlotte (the cat) and @charlotte989875.

    I FINALLY got the floor plan for the new room at work that I'll be moving to.  I like it better than where I currently am...but not as much as where I previously was (an office).  It's NOT an office, it's another cube, which I wasn't surprised about.  But it's on the far end, in a corner, and two of the sides are actual walls.  So it will be more private and quieter than where I currently am.  On that same note, the whole room is pretty isolated from the rest of the office and there are only five other employees in this area.  Which, for the COVID times we live in, also feels safer than the 12+ people in the current more massive cubeland I'm in.

    Here are the cons.  The cube itself feels more "open" for my work space because it has a huge wrap-around "corner" desk.  But because of that and the layout, I'm not going to be able to bring my two tables, bookshelf, and filing cabinet.  I think only half of those furniture items would fit.  I'm going to speak to the main engineer I work with and see if I can PURGE his binders!!!!  That would be so freeing, lol.  It would largely solve that problem and also be less to move.  I don't think he would care.

    The other con is this room is in the far-off hinterlands of the floor.  People will forget I work here because they'll never see me, lol.  It's also so far from the breakroom.  Right now, there isn't even a water cooler in that room.  I may have to petition for one, lol.  Because I need to make water sacrifices to the Keurig god, in order to be blessed with coffee.

  • I managed to get up and get on the bike today but man I wish my body was one that LIKED to work out.   I try to follow the cadence of the instructors and my legs are feeling it hours later.

    By my calculations though in a week and a half of use I've biked for 3 hours.   I'm not winning awards but I am glad that I can still say we didn't buy an expensive coat rack.

    Chiquita is at school and Chiquito is home.   Every minute that goes by and we aren't on the short list to be contact traced makes me happy.   Fingers X that we don't have to isolate or get tested.
  • Got some great health news I’m not telling anyone in real life- my mother passed away from complications of a hereditary disease that runs in the family, and I’ve never known if I had it (50/50 chance). Finally got tested and I don’t! I’m usually not great about going to the doctor but thinking about having a baby next year so trying to take care of stuff. And now that I know this, my mind is all why not get knocked up now? Why not buy a house right now? So trying to remember to wait another year, save up, and let my lease run out first. Big thoughts for my Tuesday morning.
    That's amazing news!  It must be such a weight off your shoulders.  With such good news about your future, I can understand more excitement and impatience for the big decisions of having a baby and buying a house.

  • I might've told my attorneys to "be a professional and suck it up" b/c they're used to Paralegal Varuna having everything flowing smoothly, on time, and usually ahead of what they want, instead of Legal Trainer Varuna, who has actual responsibilities that take priority over their stuff.  They are not adjusting very well.  I'm not being very forgiving today, but both of them know better than approaching me before 9am and they both did, with non-emergencies (you can laugh, but it is a long standing rule b/c I just don't function well before 9 am with people).  IDK why they thought they could poke the bear just b/c I get here earlier now.

    SSDD.  I have to cook tonight.  HAVE TO.  I feel bad, b/c K is absolutely willing to help, but they're not very confident in their cooking skills and they kind of end up in the way, so I just make sure they clean up and it's equal.  But sometimes I like, Do we really HAVE to eat food AGAIN today?!?!

    I'm trying to sign up for more virtual experiences, do more cooking, get back into the habit of reading, and playing video games.  I'm pretty tired of television at this point.  However, Discovery does start Thursday night, so I'm excited about that one.  I managed to not go out last night.  Mondays and Tuesdays are my big restless nights, so one more night and I should be alright.

    Do you have Hello Fresh where you live? The recipes are mostly really easy and designed for a beginner cook. Happy to send you a code for a free box if you want to try it!

    Thank you, I do appreciate that.  I've tried a few of the meal services, but really the Emeals + Delivery groceries works out cheaper, with more and better meals.  It's just the cooking right now I'm not feeling.  I'm seriously considering a week of nothing but some microwave meals, just to give myself a break.  I think it's part of my depression, really, b/c I like cooking...I just have to push to do it and it's not the enjoyment it usually is.

    I agree, @missJeanLouise!  You aren't giving yourself enough credit.  That's a great flamingo!  So pink, festive, and fun.

  • @charlotte989875, what a crappy way to start a Tuesday! Poor Miss Charlotte, change is hard for kitties!

    @STARMOON44, Wow, that's fantastic news!

    @VarunaTT, Do you crock pot? I've been using that to help with my cooking fatigue lately - put everything together on Sunday and put in the fridge. Then on whatever day, I just dump everything in the pot and turn it on. No work, no clean up. But a week of microwave meals sounds really pleasant too.

    Another uneventful Tuesday here too. I took the pup for a walk this morning and saw like 14 deer. They live around here and it's not uncommon to see 1-2, but they were all  over the neighborhood this morning. I wonder if it's because the storms finally quit or it's about to get cooler or what.
  • While the meal kits really only provide (at min) 3 nights, so you have to figure out other nights anyway - I find myself going off and on with them.  When I’m in a rut, I’ll use them for a few months, cancel, go back etc.

    Love that flamingo @missJeanLouise

    Also, it’s prime days!  Anyone find anything? My TV went down $100 so yay for that.  And I’m eyeing a waterpik... that’s about it.

  • That’s wonderful @STARMOON44
    Happy bday to your DS and awesome flamingo @missJeanLouise

    A teacher I co-teach with two periods each day is out, his wife tested positive for Covid.  He’s awaiting results but joining the ranks of a good 10-15% of my school (teachers/students) quarantining right now, bc a family member is sick or awaiting results.  Some colleagues and I are beginning to wonder at what percentage they’d switch to remote learning.  Oh well...I’ve been feeling very healthy, and my kids too.

    I know this sounds so silly, but 1 -- I'm totally terrified of crockpots and it's been getting worse as I get older and then This Is Us went and made a crock pot fire a plot point.  It's an irrational fear and I know it, but there it is (I also fear my arm getting ripped off in the washer or my hand eaten in the garbage disposal).  2.  Also, with just the 2 of us, another real issue is that I either have to do one of those make more than 1 thing with it or we have whatever I made in the crockpot for days.  Neither of us are good at eating out of the freezer, so I don't try that anymore.  It's one of those things that I know would make my life easier, but it involves using a lot of energy to not worry, so is it really easier?

    Honestly, I probably should've been in therapy my entire life.

  • @VarunaTT I cook almost all of the meals in my house too and I rarely enjoy it. We have been doing Hello chef for a few months now and it has really taken a lot of stress out of my life. It might not be the most economical but it means my family gets homemade food 4 nights a week and it's not the same thing over and over again. The fact that I don't have to go shopping is an added bonus.

    What about an instapot?

    What about an instapot?
    The Emeals provides the dinner recipes for a week, then creates a shopping list.  I go through the list, mark off the things I have, then it sends the "need to buy" to the Walmart app.  I pick what I need, then sign up for delivery from Walmart.  So really, that part takes 20 minutes.  So, it really serves nearly the same amount of time/function that one of the food services would, since I would need to sign on, choose my meals, and then arrange my delivery (which can be easier said than done in an apartment).  That part really isn't the issue.

    It's just the cooking itself. I'm just not wanting to do it at all.  We had an instapot and I liked it alright (though we still had an issue with too much sometimes). I didn't like it enough to keep it and passed it to a friend with a large family who loves it far more than I ever did.  I just don't want to cook at all right now.  **shrug** It'll pass at some point.  Maybe I'll do one of the actual "meal delivery" services where it's already cooked and you can just microwave it.  There are a few of those in town.

    Thanks for the ideas, ladies.
  • Question for any of you Apple product users. I have a MacBook pro and an iPhone 8. I was given a set of Bose wireless earbuds for Christmas last year. They work great with the phone but don't work with the microphone on the computer. I can hear through them on the computer, just can't talk. Do any of you know if the AirPods work as a microphone with a MacBook? I really need the feature of being able to talk into them.
  • @VarunaTT my in-laws have been getting meals from Freshly. They're microwavable meals but super fresh and super tasty. It's a little pricy but can help on those nights when you don't want to cook.

    Took DD to her second to last helmet appointment. Two more weeks and she'll be done. I'm so over the darn thing.

    Nanny's son tested negative for Covid so none of us had to quarantine. Work is insanely busy. I'm losing track of days and can't believe it's already mid-October. Debating taking DD on a small hike this weekend if the weather cooperates.

    @missJeanLouise Happy birthday to your DS! Love the flamingo.
    @STARMOON44 congratulations on the good news!
    @ei34 fingers crossed you stay healthy!

    That’s number two on my list of irrational improbable fears.

    Back at work today. I’m annoyed because I had plans to hike with FSIL tonight while other FSIL visits FI with her bf. I was trying so hard to avoid them. And now FSIL texted me to say they might be joining us. No, I planned my evening specifically so I wouldn’t have to deal with their judginess. I don’t want to people any more than I already am today. Ugh.

    @missJeanLouise the flamingo turned out great!

    @STARMOON44 that’s amazing news!

    @short+sassy ask for the water cooler!

  • Starmoon - Wonderful news!

    MJL - That Flamingo is awesome!  DD loved Flamingos too!  She calles them mingos!

    I have just spent way too much money on Prime Day and Target's competing sales.  But I got a bunch of electronics we needed/wanted (Fire Cube, security cameras, etc) and some Christmas gifts for DD.  Of course we are leaving for vacation on Saturday, so I have everything shipping to MIL!  She is going to be shocked at the amount of packages she will be receiving!  LOL.  I did get MIL her Ring doorbell with the Chime too, but that went on her credit card!

    DD and I got our flu shots yesterday and she did so good!  Mine hurt like a bitch!  Then we got some goodies to snack on during our drive up to the Berkshires.

    Fun fact, Crockpot brand came out that night saying that it was not a plausible plot and could not happen in real life.
    I think they were consulted.

    That being said, if you opt to try it - do it on a day you're home and can watch it. Might keep you feeling safer.
  • Good news!
    Clinic just got flu shots so I'm trying to book for BabyKitten - she needs to go inside as she's under 5
    I'm hoping to get derm referral also but that is likely separate.

    And contractor coming Thursday.

    Guys this is more off our "to do" list for the house :)
    I'm very excited.

    M has to move shit in the basement and shop vac, but that's relatively easy. He needs to shop vac regardless

    I remember their letter they sent out as a press release.  It was fantastically done and more than I would have expected from a huge corporation.

    It started out talking about their own love of the show and had a slant more like what one This Is Us fan would say to another.  There were no angry words directed at the show.  But more an "aw shucks" attitude that they know tvs and movies often get dramatized and have things that couldn't happen in real life.  They also provided a little history about the Crock Pot, safety facts, and details on why that could never have happened.  But did an impressive job of balancing getting their point across without bogging it down or making it boring/confusing with too many details.

    The benefit is they almost anticipated the repercussion of the scene and knew they'd have comments/questions/etc galore.

    I definitely feel like This is Us went to them advising of the show, plot, etc. that way they weren't blindsided {also maybe advertising?}

    Idk if any of the H's here watch also, but M half watches {in the room and sometimes watches but not really paying attention} and he's said that although it's not his type of show, how they tell a story is incredible and they have talented writers.

    This week just got busy a.f and M is going to kill me lmao

    Wed - 10:15am - BabyKitten flu shot
    2pm - me on call with clinic for derm referral

    Thurs - M home to deal with contractor

    Fri - i swear there is something but cannot think of it

    Sat & Sun - flu shots for us, and pending weather, we're going to a field to get some fun photos of BabyKitten/us

    {most of this is dealt with today lol - we're short staffed so I can't wfh this week}
  • Oh, the company did a great job, no doubt.  Their Twitter account was hysterical about it.  This is why it is a irrational fear, then This is Us was like, "Hey, let's find Varuna's irrational fear and jump up and down on it."  Like all the scenes in horror movies where someone DOES get eaten by a garbage disposal (why I won't watch Final Destination).  I haven't seen anyone lose a limb to a washing machine yet, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere, lurking, for an unsuspecting Varuna.

    ;)
