Wedding Woes

Warm Wednesday!

I ran outside this morning at 7 and it was already 47 degrees! We’re supposed to get a high of 60+ today and I cannot wait. The baby is going to get so many walks outside today between my Mom, H, and me. Also our local ice cream shop opens and we’re going even if I have to get nondairy or sorbet! Happy Wednesday to us.

Re: Warm Wednesday!

  • OMG, so jelly @CharmedPam. I went to Aruba 20ish years ago and I loved it.  I want to take DH there one day.
  • That was the best of the three, but Bonaire tied with it. I went with my ex @mrsconn23, just last year, and even the agent was like “you’ve been there?  Why do you want to go again?”

    To experience it with people I like maybe? Plus, paradise.

  • It's beautiful out today. I know BK will be outside today - it's her fave type of snow, crunchy lol

    Successfully purchased items yesterday!
    BK rain boots
    Toddler Girls' Rain Boots in Light Pink from Joe Fresh

    BK runners because her current ones may not last
    Toddler Girls' Laceless Sneakers in Light Pink from Joe Fresh

    I also got Essie Watermelow @STARMOON44 !! {guess who is gonna diy pedicure this weekend!}
    I got pumice for my feet {used last night. AWE YISSSS}
    Shampoo
    Mine - Cake Brand {Posh Wash}
    BK - L'Oreal kids {yes, the fish one}
    Raspberries and blueberries were on sale also :)
  • SSDD at work today. It’s raining for the next few days so the plan tonight is a quick workout and then picking up the house since we can’t hike.

    FSIL is annoying me a little bit with wedding plans. She is all over the map and very little of it is etiquette approved. She’s trying to plan a DW in July and I just don’t understand why they don’t push it out a little. She’s also making it harder than it needs to be with the guest list. There’s also B-listing, and drink tickets mentioned. The B-listing I am torn on because of pandemic. Right now the limit is 10 people for a gathering but it might increase to 25 people. A pandemic seems like a situation where it’s okay to B-list in that regard. Then she’s talking about only having parents and having people join them at the reception, but tbh if we’re traveling and spending all of that money we want to see them actually get married at the ceremony. It’s not just another vacation for us which is how other family members are treating it. We would be holding off and going somewhere completely different if there wasn’t a wedding involved. Ugh.

  • @CharmedPam you mentioned using a travel agent? How do you pick one? I want to use once to organize my flights this summer because I will likely be flying alone with DS and want to do a sleep over somewhere (as opposed to a 16+ hour flight with a 2.5year) but don't know how to do it with covid restrictions and quarantines.
    So I don’t really use a travel agent for flights, just for cruises.  And only because I can’t touch the deals elsewhere. Remember CMGragain?  She went on a ton of cruises and gave me her agent’s contact info.  He was excellent but has since retired.  His replacement was just as good! I saved around -$500 per PERSON using vacationstogo, rather than booking direct with the cruiseline. Plus, since this is my gift to them, and I’m buying all four slots, I can’t afford balconies and I feel like he really helped me get the best inside room at a rate I couldn’t pass up!

    for flights I just use kayak.com and go with the cheapest one. Sorry!

    I'm confused as to why anyone would ask why a person would want to go to a great beach locale again, lol.

    Verdict from our "second opinion" electrician?  Yes, the electricity is fine.  He told that to them also and they asked him some questions.  Despite all that, they still think something is wrong with the electricity.  Whatever.  I have done more than my due diligence to try and reassure them.

    And the tenant's air fryer, that she told me was kaput and didn't work anymore, was also working fine.  They claimed their microwave and rice cooker were still ruined.  But neither item was there anymore.  They said they'd thrown them in the trash.  My H went to go get them to check them out but "the trash had been taken out that morning".  However, their outside trash can was half full.  There was also suspiciously no space on their countertop were a microwave would have gone.

    Now I am all around, really pissed.  Thanks ladies (the tenants), I just wasted $250 on an electricity check-up over an untrue red herring you told me to either get a different electrician out there and/or try to set me up to buy you new small appliances.  They haven't asked for that, but hinted at it on the phone the other day.  Just for my own piece of mind, I looked up what can cause a power surge within a home.  Overloading a circuit can potentially do that, though it would be really unusual.  For a small appliance, it is the only way that can happen from within the house, ie not my responsibility when the house has a clean bill of health from two electricians.

    ----------------------

    All righty!  Moving on, lol.  After we went out to dinner last night, we made a quick trip to the grocery store.  My H got his second shot for his shingles vaccination, while he was there.  He JUST became eligible yesterday to get his first shot for the COVID vaccine but, unfortunately, now he will need to wait at least two weeks because of the shingles vaccine.  But it might take longer than that just to get a COVID vaccine appointment anyway.

    Louisiana shocked me with that!  It was a real 180.  People with medical conditions below the age of 55 had continually been relegated down until they were a group just before vaccines would be open to the general population.  And neither smoking nor obesity were on their previous lists of qualifying medical conditions.  With the new eligibility, now smoking/obesity are included.  My H is a smoker.

    My second vaccination shot is scheduled in MS on Tuesday.  I'd love to get it here instead and save myself the trip, but the only days I'm available to do that...if I could even get an appointment...are Sunday/Monday.  And I'm not giving up my MS spot, unless I can get the second shot before then.  It's too important.

  • Weird question - did anyone do a montessori style bed for their kiddos?
    We're looking at a new bed probably next year for BK and I'm looking at that.

    I like this:
    Harper Orchard Mattress & Double Children Floor Bed Frame Toddler Premium Wood Kids Twin Bed Bedroom Safe & Reviews | Wayfair.ca

    I figure it'd be good for sleepovers, or if M or I need to be in her room for whatever reason.

    Oh wow!  Interesting!  Norwegian had sent me brochure with all kinds of special offers that made their Hawaii cruise sound so cheap.  But the "gotcha's" inflated the price to double/triple what they'd advertised (eyeroll).  My H really wants to go to Hawaii and I think a cruise would absolutely be the cheapest way to do it.  But he is anti-cruises, so now I've mostly shelved that idea.

    I've had my eye out for plane/room packages or even just room packages to Hawaii.  But there isn't much out there and the few things I've seen require traveling in 2021.  We want that trip for 2022, because I'm already going on my postponed (twice!) European cruise in August of this year.

    I’d love to go to Hawaii!  M already said the only cruise he’d consider is an Alaskan one and I’m like ok!  Done. I’m good with that one too! Or even an East costal Canadian one would be cool.

    you’ll have to let me know how cruises are running @short+sassy. At any rate, life is short and enjoy what you can now.  My aunt has a husband who can’t take care of himself, and her Dad (my grandpa) so she’s worried about home care for them but said “we’ll figure it out!  I can’t put my life on hold!”.

    I have looked at so many vacation ideas, including the all inclusives and really, cruises are the way to go.  The food is SO good, all you can drink packages, and the shows - I’d pay for some of them even on land! Never mind just hanging by the pool listening to the bands, watching people sing karaoke, playing trivia and their game show type games going on all day.... omg! I miss cruising.  Covid, you better be gone by then.  You’re getting the boot from me.

  • @CharmedPam my favorite thing about cruises is that I never have to take one ever again lol. I truly love how much people’s travel styles differ and how many options we all have. And I can’t wait for all of us to get back to doing what we love!
  • On agents, the one I am working w/ for Disney has done all the legwork for us.  The only thing that they haven't done is book the transportation.  Now we're looking to drive anyway so it's not an issue but she's been FANTASTIC.

    If we ever go on a cruise I think we'll only use Disney for it (at least now while we see the recovery process due to COVID) and would use the same agency again.

    Lol I can respect that @STARMOON44.  Some people don’t like cruising. Some can’t (seasick like my sister!).  The first one I went on, I remembered having the “trapped” feeling.  Plus, I wasn’t fond of the ship (Carnival).  But then I crazily tried another cruiseline and as it turned out, I loved it!

  • The only cruises that interest DH and me are Alaskan or Mediterranean.

    Our friends did do a European one when their oldest son graduated HS (it was his grad present) and it looked pretty spectacular.  They also did right and spent $$$  They did a bunch of travel around Europe before and after the cruise.  They were in Europe for about a month.

    Hawaii does offer pretty convenient and cheap island hopper flights.  We also had no issue flying into Honolulu from the mainland and out of Maui back home.  If we ever go back to Hawaii, we'd probably go for two weeks and hop between islands. DH and I want to go back and spend a good chunk of time on the Big Island and then a few days on the side of Maui we didn't get to.  And also, we'd want to go to Oahu only to do Pearl Harbor and would maybe stay up on the north shore.
  • @MissKittyDanger we have DS in a floor bed. It is one of those ikea bunk beds that can be flipped and used as a single. It came with slats for the mattress but we skipped them and just put the mattress on the floor.

    This one. https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/kura-reversible-bed-white-pine-80253814/

    @levioosa that's some shenanigans. Hopefully she is just feeling overwhelmed and will come to her senses. I remember when I first got engaged I was throwing out some horrible ideas that, when I took 10 seconds to think about them, realized they were gross.
  • @levioosa, I hope she lets the guests know about the drink tickets!  We don’t even know if my cousin is still holding her October wedding!

  • @missJeanLouise I like this also! Definitely a better price too

    Seriously!

    @levioosa, that goes into WTF territory IMO.  If you make the choice to force your guests to all need to travel to get to your wedding you need to be pulling out all the stops.  I'd expect no drink tickets and nothing watered down!
    Totally, especially with only 10 guests! How much could the bar tab possibly be?

    I also hope to never have to go on another cruise. So crowded, and I was so miserable in the tiny bathroom, but I really hated being stuck with a regimented schedule to leave port. I was always finding something that I wanted to do 10 minutes before we had to get back on the boat. All-inclusives are more my speed. My ILs are trying to put together a resort trip for us all as soon as it's safe. I cannot wait to sit on a beach with a cabana boy bringing me beach cocktails.
  • @MissKittyDanger if you want that style just search for beds with trundles, I imagine there are a lot out there much cheaper.  Isn't a "montessori bed" just a low bed that a kid can easily get in/out of themselves?
  • I’d love to go to Hawaii!  M already said the only cruise he’d consider is an Alaskan one and I’m like ok!  Done. I’m good with that one too! Or even an East costal Canadian one would be cool.
    Where are you thinking specifically?
    @MissKittyDanger, the ones that start in the States (cheaper if its dometic airfare) usually start in Boston (and I love me some Boston!) and go to NS, PEI, and even QC! Just when it’s about to be Fall would be the best time to go.  So, for Canada that’s what? August? 😆

  • @CharmedPam LOLOLOLOL Actually QC in August is hot a.f ;) If you want actual fall, late September is nice. Might get a heat wave but colours start.

    @kvruns yeh, montessori is basically floor bed. I would personally rather that but idk ... maybe trundle is good. I never really considered it until I saw that one.
    WHY IS BUYING A BED FOR SOMEONE ELSE SO DAMN DIFFICULT
  • The cruises I'm interested in are Alaska (I don't have a desire to vacation TO the state but would love to cruise up the coast and see the glaciers), Mediterranean and a multi-Caribbean destination.  I'm impressed thus far with the cleanliness and entertainment on the Disney line which is why I'd consider that but DH doesn't have much desire to go so I think it may be Alaska only and that's years away.
