Wedding Woes

Wednesday already

We made it to midweek just like that.

DH came home tired and ready for all the a/c last night.  We went out for tacos and margaritas.

I am so ready for the weekend already, LOL.  Our friends from CA are going to be in town Friday and I think we're going to have them over for dinner instead of going out.  I'm going to do my semi-famous homemade pizzas.

We’re have a mass exodus in our division- feels like people are leaving every week (we’re a pretty small division). I know there’s a lot of pandemic delayed displacement but it feels like a lot of people are on their way out. It hasn’t impacted my team too much yet (other than the guy who left earlier this year) but it just feels off.
  • I am ready for A/c and margaritas pretty much all of the time @mrs@mrsconn23
Sorry to hear that @charlotte989875 . Hope the the tides turn soon.

I got my teeth whitened today. It was all fine during the procedure but now my teeth hurt. *Grumpy face*
  • We took the kids out for a swim last night and after less than an hour HAULED HOME.  The skies opened and it was one heck of a storm.  Such is summer.

Fingers are crossed that we're not SOL tonight so the kids can play with their cousins.
  • @mrsconn23, For a short week, it doesn't feel very short!

@charlotte989875, I'm sorry to hear about the mass exodus going on.  We've all heard about the labor shortages going on.  But it's been my impression that's more in lower-paying, public facing or manual labor types of jobs.  And not so much office-type jobs.  But I guess when you shake the world/country up like snow globe, you can't always tell what the fall out will be.

Not much going on for me.  I have a few crucial work things I need to get done today, but none of it should take long.

I paid two credit cards off yesterday, so that felt great!  One of them is a Wells Fargo Home Improvement card that is tied to the a/c company I use.  Purchases are always 6 months interest free but, if you don't pay it off within those 6 months, they tack ALL the deferred interest back on.  Which I personally think is super sh***y, but that's the deal.  My due date to pay it off in that timeframe wasn't until the August 29th.  But I received an unexpected insurance refund, so I paid it off a month early.  I also paid off my Home Depot commercial credit card.  Thanks to rehabbing those duplexes, I haven't had a zero balance on that thing for over two years, lol.

I also have my final payment this month on a personal loan I took out three years ago.  So that will soon be an extra $300/month in my pocket.

I am also super excited that Bigger Pockets (real estate investing website) has scheduled their annual conference for this year in New Orleans.  YAAASSS!!!  It's in October.  It was supposed to be here last year, but was cancelled because of the pandemic.  I was hoping they wouldn't change the city and was so glad they didn't.  I've already checked out the itinerary.  So many good topics!  It's going to be hard to narrow down the seminars I want to attend.

I'm so tired of the heat/humidity. There was a nice rainbow this morning driving to daycare which was cool.

Had book club last night. We read the Lost Apothecary although I think out of the 4 of us who actually read it I'm the only one who really liked it. Oh well! Always good to hang out even though the group is relatively small. When the pandemic hit it was easier to people to bail and then many haven't returned which is ok, still fun with whoever can get together.
  • I'm just tired this week.  I haven't been able to fall asleep at a decent hour and getting up for work is killing me.  Oh well, hopefully I can go to sleep early tonight.

Since I couldn't sleep, I finished "The Orphan's Tale: A Novel".  Has anyone read it?  I thought it was good although it took me a couple of chapters to get into it.

We had a short but strong storm blow through early last evening and then it rained most of the night.  There were some trees down due to the wind but not in our neighborhood.  Much cooler and less humid today.

    More coffee please...

  • @missJeanLouise, last time I got my teeth whitened she let some gel drop on my lip - yeah - it burned the inside of my lip and hurt for days after. It blistered up the first hour too!  I’m supposed to whiten them with a non invasive gel in between but I don’t.
awesome news on all those fronts @short+sassy.  I love the feeling of a paid off cc. Just ln time to add more to a new cc lol.

I’m trying to figure out when I can go grocery shopping, and I don’t think I can get to it till Friday.  Tonight is hypnosis and I’ll be to hungry/tired to go after, and tomorrow is my TOPS group and a movie.

Last night was my last infidelity meetup.  I already stepped down today.  I’ll be sorry if no one takes it over since I built it from nothing.  But, CharmedPam needs to move on. Lol.

  • Wednesday is always better than Tuesday. We're supposed to get some rain, but so far it's just drizzly. My exciting bit for the day is that we made the decision on our bathroom contractor last night, so we're getting started there. It's going to be like 2-3 months before they start, but I'm excited to even have a date penciled in and get to start shopping for the details.

@charlotte989875, what happened with your one that was disengaging? Did you get to a better place?

I read that recently on someone in WW advice. I really liked it too. I've read The Orphan's Tale too @m@MNNEBride. Lol I've been in this book club so long I've read soooo many books, but I love to read so that is a good thing.

The twins have been holy terrors this morning! I think DD is about to throw them out the door. I  hope they aren't getting sick - this kind of behavior isn't normal for them.

Nothing much else going on. I'm looking forward to getting back home and maybe meeting some friends for lunch!

Yes!  That's the name of the book I was trying to remember!  Thank you - my cousin told me about it and I wanted to read it, and then I forgot the title and asked her and she forgot the title .... it sounds really good.

It’s interesting- I think we’re seeing a lot of people make moves for higher pay, expanded remote work options (putting more jobs in consideration that are full time remote that may have been in person before), and even signing bonuses. I just received a fairly sizable salary bump and I think it’s largely to keep people from quitting.
  • Somewhat better @mynameisnot, I expect them to leave within the next 6-12 months. It’s ultimately not the career for them, but they’re getting their work done (for the most part) so while they’re not a high performer they’re contributing. We recently added two new people to the team and I think it’s helping them feel a little more engaged.

that's awesome! I wish my work would do that, I'm generally happy where I am but starting to look in part for higher salary because I'm tired of being overlooked and realistically I know they're not going to do anything (well that was before acquisition, I really dont expect anything now with the new large company).

Sounds like I need to add the Orphan's Tale to my reading list. I've been reading a lot more recently instead of watching random TV at night. I finally finished a bunch of paperbacks I'd bought around valentine's day on clearance so I need new stuff.

Our next Book club book is "I Almost Forgot about You" I think it's just an easy ready type of novel, I haven't seen if I can get it through the library or not yet

Thanks! We’re actually acquiring another bank now and it means a ton of extra work for us so I think this is a “please don’t quit” bump.
  • @VarunaTT It’s wonderful how you found peace at work and need no career changes.  Higher ups be damned!
