We made it!  This is another felt-like-forever week.

No big plans.  I really do want to go see a movie tonight and this weekend, so I'm planning on that.  I'm excited about the new Jungle Cruise and The Green Knight.  I'm hesitant to see Stillwater.  I think Matt Damon is truly coming into his own as an actor and I'm sure he's excellent.  At the same time, if that movie isn't handled right, it's just queer trauma exploitation and I'm exhausted by that.  More Schitt's Creek type queer stories, please.  I have orientation tomorrow from 9-5 and not sure what next week looks like, but I'm ready for this journey to get underway.

Re: Friday!

  • YAY WEEKEND!!

I'm not sure I want to see Stillwater because it's also ripping off of Amanda Knox's story (which the director/writer said it was what 'inspired' him to make the movie) and she's pretty upset by it.  She says that she's frustrated with people telling the story over and over and that she's tired of being centered in it since the real tragedy is the loss of Meredith Kercher.  I'm an Amanda Knox apologist and think she was fucked over by the Italian justice system, plus the US and international press.   Sorry not sorry.

Going to lil sis's FIL's memorial tonight and then to dinner after with dad and my other sister, BIL, nephews.  DefConn has a bday party tomorrow (which, shit, just remembered we need to get a gift...Amazon GC it is). I need to do some shopping for a baby gift and whatnot.

Sunday, getting together with my sisters again to *finally* put some plans together for mom's memorial.  We're normally planners and have dragged our feet something fierce on planning this. We are going to swim at my sister's neighbor's house too.

DH is going OOT for a guy's weekend.  I am sleeping in the middle of the damn bed and going to enjoy sleeping in tomorrow.

We did buy tickets this week to go see Lindsay Stirling in a couple weeks.  It will be my first live event since...November 2019?  I can't wait. I saw her with Evanescence in 2017 or 2018 when they toured.  Stirling and Amy Lee were perfection together.  <3
  • YAY for an interview @NBSquared2017
And boo to the peanut allergy.  My nephew is allergic to peanuts too.  I'm glad it's not respiratory, but it's still scary with little ones.  I hope you never have to use the epipen for her, but I'm sure it adds some peace of mind to have it.

My nephew's nickname is Peanut, ha.  He was teensy when he was born and has always been on the small side.
  • Finally Friday! The week has been so long!

No plans tonight. Will probably go out to the pool and have some drinks. Getting my hair done Saturday morning, then dinner with friends that night. Also, you know you're old when all your friends want to go to dinner at 5pm..lol. Sunday is still up in the air. If the weather is good, my friend is coming over for a brunch/pool day.
  • I just realized I mixed up Stillwater and Joe Bell, and Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg. I must've seen the previews together. I would've been really confused in the theatre.

I have stillwater on my list too.  There’s a few I’d like to see.  Didn’t get around to Pig because orkin was at my house during it, but we’ll see.  The movie times/places are really awful for this movie and it’s only been out 2 weeks, so maybe the reviews are bad?

crossing everything @NBSquared2017.  Woohoo!  Sorry about Madison’s nut allergy. Peanut buttter is a kid’s’ favorite :(

dinner at 5… hmmm @climbingsingle, not quite there yet but close! Lol

my day off was pretty good.  Spent a buttload at costco, did some running around and met up with a metobolic weightloss specialist. The program was referred to me by my hypnotherapist.  It’s really costly.  $1,980 for a 15 week program (but they work with you for six months). It’s a diet program that you follow what they suggest (so no food provided in that cost) and supplements.  The five suppliments she showed me didn’t seem too too unique or hard to find. So it’s basically overpaying for over the counter suppliments.  I’m 42.  I know what to eat at this point in my life. She promises I can get to goal weight by mid January. I forgot to ask if it’s guaranteed? Lol. I have to wait till my Nutrisystem food is gone anyway and I prepaid that and it’s at least 6 weeks left of that.  But the suppliments are 6 weeks on, 3 week break and then another 6 weeks of them - so it’s $165 a week for them!!! That’s a lot.  Everything she showed me, minus a liquid appetite suppressant, I’ve heard of and can get OTC.

So I was JUST gonna write that it sounded like Joe Bell (boy who committed suicide over bullying?) but I completely forgot what stillwater was about so I figured you knew better lol

  • @NBSquared2017, good luck to your H!  I'm sorry to hear about Madison's allergy.  I hope it's as easy as possible for you all to manage and for her to manage, once she gets older.

I need to have an unpleasant conversation with one of my tenants this afternoon.  We are posting a 60-Day Notice to Vacate tomorrow.  She's been wanting to move out anyway and has been supposedly actively looking.  I won't go into all the long stories but, in a nutshell, she is difficult to get along with and has a worrying volatile temper.  These are my two next-door duplexes.  She doesn't get along with any of the other tenants and will scream at them over the slightest provocation, sometimes even brandishing a weapon (not a firearm, but still).  She doesn't get along with my H, who does most of our handyman work.  She doesn't get along with my plumber, who does our plumbing and sometimes handyman work.  But the weapons is the big, big one that I found out about recently.

One of those situations where I hear all the stories, all the time of how terrible everyone is.  When what I really want to say is, "Ya know, when it's a dozen people who would rather pull their own teeth out than deal with you, MAYBE ITS NOT THEM!"  Just maybe, lol.

A charity is paying her rent and I spoke to her case worker yesterday.  It's sounds like they are helping her find a new place, so that was good news.  I told the case worker that, while I'm giving her 60 days, she can move out whenever she wants sooner than that with no financial repercussions.  She does not need to give me any notice, just tell me the day she is gone.  I will return her security deposit to her, assuming no damages.  If there is rent their charity has paid that exceeds her move-out date, I will return the pro-rated portion back to them.  It's just become an untenable situation for everyone so I am making it as easy as I can for her to leave as soon as possible.

Other than all of that unpleasantness, the rest of the weekend should be awesome.  Nothing amazing happening other than (probably) going out to eat once or twice.  But even a boring weekend is a great weekend, in my book, lol.

  • Yeah I can imagine that being a hard talk @short+sassy, I think I’ve said it before but your a good landlord who has more patience than anyone I know!

  • @NBSquared2017, everything crossed on the interview! Sorry about the allergy, but hopefully knowing early will help make it manageable.

I'm so glad it's Friday! It's been a beast and I'm ready to chill. No big plans. It's hot AF, so chores, yard and hopefully a pool.

I'm putting in an order from daily harvest for a bunch of smoothies this morning. It's too expensive to do regularly, but I'm really trying to get back up to 5-7 servings of fruit/veg every day and hoping some fruit smoothies will help jump start. (And I had a coupon). Has anyone ever ordered from them?

US women's soccer won their game this morning, but it was a struggle. I don't think they're going to win the gold this year.

  • What H says: "I have an 11:30am phone interview.  I'll come get you after so we can get on the road."

What FIL hears: "I need to show up at 11:40am and be an audience for this interview."

@mrsconn23 You can sic me on your FIL.  I was just so mean to a co-worker for really nothing that I was embarrassed and had to go apologize.  So apparently, I got some shit I need to vent.

    :D
    LMAO!!

I'm hiding in my office.  His dad is his problem.  Hee.  I just want all these people in my house to clear out by my lunch break so I can have a peaceful afternoon.

I am annoyed because DH and I won't be able to have a post-game chat after his interview so he can tell me what he found out and how he feels.
  • That's quite suspect @NBSquared2017.  I'd definitely be looking for additional context to why they had those slides/expect support for those businesses/organizations.

Especially after the full page ad Hobby Lobby took out over the 4th about basically how they don't believe in the separation of church and state. It was gross.
  • But…then I get to a deck with a bunch of logos of companies that are “faith based” Hobby Lobby, Chick-a-fila, etc. and that were founded on religious values.
The CEO proceeds to say how they’re starting to have optional activities that if you don’t participate in will have no bearing on your employment or trajectory within the company.
The next slide is announcing there would be optional “fellowship” meetings used for faith and self-reflection (opening and closing in prayer), but the fact that it’s announced by the CEO makes me feel like it’s not an option.
I’m a religious person, but I feel like this excludes many others who are not Christians or Catholic. I know for a fact we have two people of the Muslim faith in the company.
It’s a private company so I know it’s their choice, but the whole thing feels icky.
    IDK - maybe I’m being dramatic 🥴
As an atheist and a humanist that can tends towards anti-theism at times, I would be furious.  Hell, I live in the damn Bible Belt and I haven't had a company come on that aggressively.  Fuck those companies values, first of all (they'd be shit values no matter their foundation), and 2ndly, there's no way that there isn't an inherent bias in "voluntary" activities of any sort at a business.
  • Something weird just happened.
I’m out on PTO, but received a recorded zoom and slide deck from our weekly meeting. Going through the slides it’s mainly about having a commitment to diversity and trying to do better as a company, which I can appreciate. The company is making Juneteenth a paid holiday and committing to learning more about the POC culture.

If you lived in NOLA, I'd guess what company you work for and probably be right, lol.

I worked for an engineering company that was ALL UP into that kind of stuff, to a disturbing and uncomfortable level.  It was unreal.

They had Bible studies once a week in a conference room during lunch.  The company provided lunch for that.  Though there truly wasn't any pressure to attend and the majority of employees did not.

We had monthly meetings that were opened with a prayer to God.

But this was what disturbed and bothered me the most.  There would occasionally be a mass company-wide e-mail sent out that encouraged people to sign letters in the breakroom that were going to be sent to our Congress people and Senators.

Now, I'd even be marginally okay with that if the letters were about legislature related to engineering.  Or the oil and gas industry (their clientele).

But no.  They weren't.  They never were.  It was always uber pro-Republican stances on societal issues and controversial ones at that.  "Ban abortions" kind of s**t.

There is no place for that in the workplace.  NO PLACE!!!!  I'd feel just as strongly about that, even if their political views had aligned with mine.

I'm usually a "go with the flow, don't cause waves" kind of person in the workplace.  But even I complained to HR about the political company-wide e-mails and how offensive I found them.  I complained...once.  The HR director told me that e-mail had been sent at the direction of the company president.  She said I wasn't the only person who had complained and that, she would pass along that a number of employees had been upset by it (without naming names), but was honest that she didn't think anything would change.

You are not being dramatic!  It IS icky!  But there are companies like that out there, smh.

  • It's a "doesn't play well with others" day for me.  Good thing it's Friday.  DH and I are going out to dinner tonight.  I have an informal HS class reunion tomorrow night and we are doing "in-person" worship tomorrow for the first time since March 2020.  Otherwise, I'll get some groceries and do a few other errands.  Maybe work outside and try not to kill my husband.  He's pushing all kinds of my buttons lately.

Feeling very checked out today. It has been a week. There is an HR lawsuit brewing and unfortunately we’re pretty powerless to stop it unless higher ups step in and stop where the shenanigans are coming from. But I’m not holding my breath for that. Yesterday I felt awful in the morning. I had terrible vertigo and had to go sit down for a minute. We were beyond busy and I was trying so hard to keep up and help out everywhere until I almost passed out. I made myself sit down until I felt a little better. Usually the vertigo isn’t that bad and it’s really annoying when it happens. I’m sure getting 4.5 hours of sleep every night this week hasn’t helped.

Other than that SSDD. It’s my dad’s and one of my bff’s birthdays. We’re meeting my dad for dinner tomorrow and I’m sending a door dash gift card over to my friend. Drinks tomorrow sound great. I have my eye on a Cucumber Collins.

  • That would make me really uncomfortable too, NB. I would have a lot of questions about whether there's really no pressure or whether those meetings will become the new "boys club" where those networking connections lead to choice projects and promotions.

One of my friends was heavily recruited by Chik fil A coming out of school. She was really interested in the work and it was good pay and benefits, but the company culture shined through loud and clear in a few rounds of interviews. She was pretty clear that she'd be an outsider and excluded as soon as they figured out she was married to a woman, and while they wouldn't fire her, it wasn't going to be a place to grow her career either.
  • Oh and all of the things crossed for DH! @NBSquared2017. I’m really sorry about DD’s peanut allergy, those are the worst. And that does sound suspect as hell at work. I’ve never met a “volunteer” opportunity at work that wasn’t either a mandatory event masquerading as a volunteer one, or a situation that would definitely impact future bonuses or raises/networking abilities.

  • Y’all it’s been a week.

Wednesday the Bank Treasurer called me to ask about my manager and how terrible he is; that was heels stressful and I’m really hoping that me sharing candidly this guy has been unprofessional and disrespectful doesn’t come back to bite me.

Then I had to give a team member of mine some negative feedback. She’s the one who has been struggling and I don’t want to penalize her for that but her work isn’t where it needs to be. It’s so hard.
  • Aaaaand I'm back to having to wear a fucking mask in my building again. They just sent out an email. "For now" we don't have to wear masks at the outdoor amenities. But basically any time I step out of my apartment door, I have to have a mask on, including the gym of course.

We’re supposed to get notified today of this too. I haven’t read anything. I’m sure my work building will be the same.

it was a great 2 months why it lasted.

  • After we (Indiana) started opening back up, our stupid legislature took away executive power from our governor to implement state wide emergency health mandates. Idiots! Local governments can issue mandates in agreement with local boards of health. I'll be wearing my masks again - I still wore them in stores. Ugh to all the government idiots!

  • I just learned that you don't have to get a pcr test before flying within the US?!! Do they even want to pretend to want to stop this thing?
Masks never stopped being a thing here, and won't as long as covid is happening and the city allows tourist.

The government has basically given up. Because the freedom to do literally nothing to stop this is apparently more important than saving lives.
  • @charlotte989875 it's so sad. Supposedly the greatest country in the world, doesn't care about anything but money for billionaires.
