I read an article written by an ER doctor that touched on some of these same points.  She talked about, at the beginning of the pandemic...as tough as things were for healthcare workers...there was also a sense of teamwork and comradery.  It was the world against COVID!  We were all fighting together.

But as she has watched her ER and hospitals around the country being overwhelmed again, she feels betrayed.  We created the best weapon possible.  The vaccines!  But now that we have the answer, too many people are refusing to be vaccinated and finally start to end this pandemic.  It isn't the world against COVID anymore.  It's the vaccinated against the unvaccinated.

She talked about unvaccinated people so sick and even dying from COVID.  Begging her to give them the vaccine.  But that's not the way it works.  It's too late.  (This wasn't in the article but, for people who survive, I think they need to wait 90 days before getting the vaccine).

She talked about her high risk, immuno-compromised patients who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.  They have been trapped in their homes the whole time.   And will stay trapped until cases go way down and there is more herd immunity.  Some of them ask her why people won't get vaccinated.  And all she can say is, "I don't know.  I don't know why people won't get vaccinated."

    -------------------------------

On a slightly different subject, at first I thought this was going to be an article about Rolling Stones, the band, lol.  Not an article in Rolling Stone, the magazine.

Rolling Stones was supposed to be a major headliner for the NOLA Jazz Fest last year, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.  Cancelled again this year during it's normal time of year (April/May).  So much joy a few months ago...when things were looking rosier...and the NOLA Jazz Fest was rescheduled for October this year.  And they scored the Rolling Stones again!  Excitement throughout the land.

Aaannddd then.  NOLA Jazz Fest Oct. 2021...cancelled last week.  Rescheduled for it's normal time of year in 2022.  NOLA, like many tourist-economy cities, has been devastated by the pandemic.  We desperately need our festivals back.  And that is a HUGE one.  Last year, was no one's fault.  But this year?  It's all your fault, unvaccinated people.  ALL.YOUR.FAULT.  That we are still in a severely depressed economy.  But I guess people who don't make the connection or don't care that they are endangering themselves and children, won't be able to do that about the devastated local economy either.

@banana468  im sorry for your family’s loss

In the middle of a heatwave here (really shouldn’t complain, I know most of you have it worse). But whew.  Lots of pool time this week.  All 3 kids had the dentist a bit earlier- zero cavities woohoo.  Otherwise ssdd

  • @short+sassy the initial 90 days waiting period after COVID was to extend our limited supply of the vaccine with the idea that you have some natural immunity for at least three months post illness. But there’s no actual contraindication to getting it right after you have recovered from the acute illness as long as you haven’t had the monoclonal antibody therapy. And even then, it’s mostly out of an abundance of caution not to administer. They also caution with children and adults who have had MIS-C/MIS-A, but you can still get the vaccine.

Guess whose co-worker just tested positive after going on a work trip and sharing a room with two other people? 🙄🙄🙄

You'd almost think that by sharing a room with people that it's going to cost the company MORE money in lost time!
