Since some of us seem to be up and about so early on a Monday (ugh), let's get things rolling.

I hope you all had a good weekend.  Mine was great.  I got a lot of rest, which I needed.  My H and I went out to dinner on Friday.  We went to a sports bar called Manning's instead of going to Harrah's steakhouse.  My $100 gift certificate went a lot further there, though it is a lot more casual all around.  Both the food (nothing special) and the ambience.  That place is plastered with nothing but memorabilia for the Manning family, lol.

We watched the Saints game on Sunday night.  Thanks Tampa Bay and Tom Brady!  We appreciate you all pretty much threw that game for us because we never could have won it on our own merits.  It was a nice and unexpected Christmas present, lol.

Looking forward to the very short week!

Re: Monday

  • We had a pretty good, but mostly lazy weekend. We're planning to paint the beams in our den over the break next week, so we went to home depot and got supplies. It should be an easy project, but the ceilings are high. H brought the ladder in and climbed up there Saturday. I think I'm going to be a nervous wreck the whole time he's up there painting. I want to paint the ugly 80s brass around the fireplace at the same time, but I'm not sure how to go about that. It rained all day, so most of the rest of the day was binge watching netflix. Then yesterday we did a long walk on the city beltline and then did a few chores.

Four working days left in the year. I'm so ready for a break.

I'm so sorry for everyone that is dealing with being sick and sick kids right now. This just sucks so much.

Welcome to your new addiction @climbingsingle!  It does take about 2-3 eps to really get into it, but we were hooked after that.  DH and I love to laugh at everyone on the show and the ridiculous absurdity. I'm sad season 3 ended last weekend. I could have gone on for at least 2-3 more episodes.

I had a pretty good weekend.  Friday, we watched "Dear Rider" on HBOMax.  It was an excellent documentary about Jake Burton Carpenter, who was the inventor of snowboarding and created Burton snowboards.  It was so good.  DH and I were both a little weepy at the end, LOL.

Saturday, we did a bunch of running around and shopping.  We made pizzas for dinner.  I recreated my favorite pizza from a very fancy pizza place here in Indy and it turned out amazing. I was so thrilled.  Speaking of thrilling, the Colts game was amazing!!  An awesome win for sure.

Sunday, DH had to go help FIL with stuff around his house.  I made chili and Rolo pretzel candies.  I got all my wrapping done.  I also got caught up on Insecure because I wasn't feeling well last night and just wanted to be in bed after wrapping everything.  I'm irrationally bummed next week is the last episode of the series.  I love that show so much.

My dad and FIL are both struggling with the holidays.  How they handle it is polar opposite.  Dad did come over yesterday for dinner and he said that he's struggling more this year than last year.  I told him I've been feeling the same way, which I hope helped.

We just have a few more items to get for Christmas.  I'm also hoping for just one more grocery store trip to get the fresh items for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinners.

SSDD otherwise.  The last 2 weeks of the year are always a weird time.  Hardly anyone is around and no one seems to care about doing actual work. LOL
  • With our HI trip coming up in mid-Feb., I told my H we should wear N-95 masks in public for the two weeks leading up to it.  Just in case!!!  I'd hate to miss our trip because one of us tests positive for COVID.

I am planning to buy some N-95 masks to wear for my trip next month and I'm reconsidering doing anything for my bday or at least having as big of a bash as I thought I would.  I'd rather travel than have a party.  I know both my friends I'm going with are boosted and they both are home most of the time (SAHM and WAH).  Fingers crossed we all stay negative.

I wish we'd do more to enforce vaccines around here. Our rates are practically stagnant. But our governor sucks, so he won't do jack shit. He's lame duck, so there's no impetus to do more than the bare min.

@short+sassy I’m not a steakhouse person so you woulda got my vote with Mannings despite the theme.
Cute cookies @ei34, looks like they had fun!
sorry this is a hard time for you & your dad @mrsconn23 :(

weekend was good.  Friday I had a party bus with my meetup. We drove around in a limobus, byob and looked at christmas lights at houses.  It was a really fun night.  Saturday was errands and running around.  Got some wrapping done and hallmark movies.  Sunday, I was over at the new guys house for the majority of the day.  Then home for 90Day.  Busy but fun weekend.  I hope the next four days don’t drag.
eta: there is nothing more disappointing than biting into a boston creme donut, only to have maybe 1 tsp of boston creme filling in it.

  • Weekend was pretty good overall. Thursday we went out to downtown to see the lights and we tried a new restaurant (outside, burrr), that was super good. I’m glad the expectations didn’t disappoint because I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile. Friday night we had FI’s work party which was okay but a little stressful. Overall we had an okay time but we did get into a little argument with each other at the end of the night that at least was productive, even though it wasn’t fun during it. Saturday we came home and spudded and yesterday we had a brunch at FSIL B’s for an early Christmas. It was one of the better events we have had over there, probably in part due to her new BF who seems like he knows how to host.

I’m back at work for a short-ish week. I’m normal hours until Thursday and then on Thursday I have an MRI and that will take up the morning. Friday is a half day and then I’m off the whole next week. I’m so ready.

I hope everyone is doing okay. I know it’s been stressful for several knotties. Sending good healing vibes to everyone who is sick.

  • I'm so sorry about everyone getting sick, or scared of getting sick.  Around the holidays in particular, I hope no one gets it so that you can celebrate with family.  I had to make a hard decision to not go to Kingston this year to celebrate with siblings.  I don't want to get it because I don't want to spread it.  We will be laying low, just having Christmas with the ILs since hubby has a small family.

I had a great weekend.  It was quiet - I read, hung out with the dog and did some geocaching since the weather was still good, started some Christmas baking, and had book club.  We were reading "Last Christmas in Paris", and I found a  tea called "Christmas in Paris" that I brought.  We used to do themed wine that corresponded with the books we were reading, but stopped because no one was drinking it, so I'm glad that I found something we could all enjoy.

I live smack dab in the middle of a major city, and yesterday the dog and I were walking and a coyote came out of the woods and starting coming at us.  My dog is not small ... it was crazy.  Fortunately someone else with a big dog was nearby and he was nice enough to walk with us past where we saw the coyote.  There must be a den nearby, they are being territorial.

  • @kerbohl Chiquita was venting in the car and said that she was never sick around the holidays. I had to remind her

-When she was 1, she ran a fever and had an ear infection.
-A year later DH had shingles for Christmas (like, came down with them on the 22nd).

  • Weekend was rough.  G has MONO of all things.  3 negative COVID/flu/RSV tests last week and today is the first day in a week that he woke up with no fever.  He is still not feeling well and is trying to reattach his umbilical cord i think.  I feel awful for him, but I need a minute.

H and I have both cried every day for days, we are just exhausted and at the end of our ropes with sickness, tantrums, and each other.  N is just smiling through everything and the happiest kid alive.

Hope everyone else feels better soon.
  • It SUUUUCKS when small kids are sick.    You have my serious sympathies @Casadena.  When my two were younger illness was just worse especially because they were ON YOU so you were so much more likely to get it too AND you were then doing so much more.
  • Damn @casadena that really really sucks.

  • We think BK has a cold. She was with SFIL today and M ended up picking her up early because she was refusing thermometer from SFIL, and although she's running around she ended up spiking fever.

So fever alone, M is taking BK to hospital out of concern. They'll probably covid test her, which is fine. Hopefully she's okay :(
  • I didn't do much this weekend.  The office closed early and the staff all met at a restaurant and let a little loose.  We all had a good time.  I didn't do much else but watch Peaky Blinders and sleep.  I cancelled the family plans I had.  My mother, who I do love and also realize she is the example of many of my boundary issues, wouldn't have seen what she was doing as a guilt trip or pushing beyond boundaries, but kept pushing to find out what was wrong.  She was concerned and missed me and wanted her family together.  I just didn't want to do it and really wish she would just....well, STFU.  I finally just said, "I don't feel good and I'm not coming over, I'm sleeping."  She is on her own journey recognizing what mental health is and means and can't be ignored, and I'm trying to just not be mean.

Right now, I'm really just concentrating on making it through this week.  We're closed on Friday and I have next week off.  I haven't had a year long break from this place ever in 5 years and I desperately need one.  I've got to push some things first.  I'm hoping to really relax and just reset my mind.  I was supposed to go to Tulsa to visit my aunts, but I'm probably going to cancel.  I do have friends I've already agreed to host, but IIRC, it's just Sunday night.  They are friends who will also help energize me, rather than drain me.

After my weekend ask to test for flu.
Hopes she okay @misskittydanger! I agree do the Covid and Flu test at the same time. We never would have thought baby M actually had Covid from his symptoms (no fever, barely a cough, really runny nose) but seems like it can be pretty different (and very similar to the flu) in young kids.
  • @Casadena I'm so sorry y'all are so exhausted. Sick small children is the worse experience! Hopefully everyone will be well soon. @banana468 so glad Chiquito doesn't have Covid! Hopefully he'll be over the flu so that you can enjoy Christmas with your family.

Weekend was pretty good. We went to see DS2 and were suppose to go to an outdoor Christmas village. However, the weather wasn't cooperating. We ended up just going to Jungle Jim's - got some awesome cheeses and having an early dinner. We were back in Indy in time for me to join my college friends biweekly Zoom call.

I spent yesterday baking cookies. I need to do one more batch this afternoon. LOL I should really get on that. Wednesday and Thursday I'll bake a pound cake and cheesecake for Christmas ( I don't know why we need two desserts but apparently we do). i'm also getting the house ready for the invasion of grandsons! It will be a fun year this year - they are 3 1/2.
  • Good news in the afternoon: Chiquito has yelled at his computer games and his fever is down 7 hours after ibuprofen.

I'm monitoring symptoms, keeping home at least tomorrow.

In my Google searches he's able to spread it if symptomatic which includes the cough. This will mean that I need to monitor him on Wed and see if he continues to have it AND the fever.

Yikes!  And shingles is just nasty to have.  Hubby had singles too, and was in so much pain.  Fortunately he didn't have it over a holiday though.

  • @kerbohl, Whoa!  That is so scary about the coyote.  I'm glad someone was there to help you and your dog and everyone is okay.  I don't think coyotes usually go near adults.  I'd think it was sick, had rabies, or was really desperate.  None of those are things you want in a wild animal!

@Casadena, I'm sorry you and your H are having such a hard time with the extra stress of G being so sick.  I hope G gets better quickly, so you all can get some rest and sanity soon!

On other topics.  I have an app on my phone that tells me about mystery shopping assignments that are nearby.  Only a few companies use it, but I've sometimes been able to pick up a last minute shop with it.

You would be amazed at the wide variety of businesses and industries that use mystery shoppers.  But now.  I think I have seen everything.  There is currently a mystery shop for a strip club!!!  It even requires multiple lap dances to be ordered, each from a different dancer.  Definitely a unique shop, lol.
Lol, are you going to take that job?  I guess it makes sense, strip clubs want to make sure that they have good service too.  It is just never something I would have thought of!

    Idk if we actually have a flu test ... tbh if anywhere has it, it would be at hospital {which is where M took her}
Not really familiar with that test

Really?? My kids can go to the pediatrician and they run a nasal swab to see if the kid has the flu.  It's a rapid test with results in office.

Strep test yes. Flu has never been a thing. Idk if it's my area or Canada though

Every time the boys have been COVID tested it included Flu and RSV in the labs, we didn't even have to ask for it specifially.  I hope BK feels better though!

I am not, lol.  It pays a decently high fee and all expenses are reimbursed.  But it's for male shoppers only and they aren't allowed to have a guest.

We've never had RSV issue, so I'm not sure what the process is.
But BK had a covid test and they figure it's a virus though. Maybe repertory again :(

I'd ask.  At least here you have the option of taking Tamiflu if you test positive for the flu and that is administered if you are immunocompromised.

Our pedi advised not giving it because it shortens the duration by maybe a day and it can make kids sick.  It did exactly that to Chiquita when she had the flu 2 years ago.
