Friday!

Whoot!  I made it (and so say we all).

I do not have sleep apnea.  So, I'll contact my primary next week and see what she wants to do.  She said at the OG appointment that there could also be adrenal system issues (which pretty basically is a chronic stress issue and like....yeah, that's been my life for awhile now).  I'm going to go get my melatonin/THC gummies, b/c I did seem to sleep a lot better on those.  I'm also going to get a wedge pillow to see if that helps out with my night breathing since that can help with both allergies and asthma issues.

Otherwise, SSDD.  My plans for this weekend are to build my new entertainment system, regular household chores, and resting.  I'm looking forward to some down time.  I've got to get back on track at work next week.  Hopefully it'll be easier now that personal things have settled down (dad is in rehab hospital, we're doing the Medicaid work for long term facility just in case, no more doctor's appointments for awhile except my allergy shot, etc).  These last 2 weeks have just been difficult.

Re: Friday!

  • @VarunaTT how do the melotonin gummies work?  The older I get the more I find I can fall asleep but may not stay asleep.

It's FRIDAY.  I'm covering for a coworker for today and next week and then it's my vacation.  Tomorrow the kids are in a fishing tournament with DH and FIL and I have to make a dessert to bring to the potluck after the tournament.
  • Yay for Friday! And yay for not having sleep apnea, even if it leaves you with more questions than answers.

I'm hoping for a chill but productive weekend. We made good progress on the fence last night and are down to a very small piece left. H reminded me this morning that he has a half day to get his second shingles vaccine, so he's going to run by Home Depot to get another bag of cement and we'll work some tonight. Tomorrow a short hike with my mom in the morning, then finish whatever we have left on the fence. Sunday I'm hoping to cut the grass. It's been on my no-no list since surgery, but I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and feel good. (Restrictions are officially 6 weeks). Cutting the grass gives H an allergy attack, so it's pretty dire.

I'm thinking about trying to go jeans shopping on Sunday too. I'm struggling with not really knowing what size I should be or what styles look good on me after losing weight. I'm usually an online shopper, but I guess I need to go to a store with a fitting room. I'm not even sure what store that is. Maybe I'll just stay in leggings.
  • @banana468 There's only 1 of them that I have found to be successful for me and that is the Core brand, which is 5mg of THC and IDK the mg of melatonin.  I've had other friends have success with the Robohots brand, but they really didn't seem to work for me or they were too much and I had a sleep hangover.

I don't have issues falling asleep, I have issues staying asleep.  When I use these, I go to sleep and stay asleep.  I get a lot more deep and REM sleep than light (my watch tracks sleep cycles, so that is with a certain range of uncertainty) and feel far more refreshed in the am.  When I just used melatonin by itself, I didn't seem to stay asleep.  I do build a tolerance to both the THC and the melatonin as well, so I had taken a break (also they are still expensive in MO b/c we're still just med usage here).  When I had to take 10 mgs, it was getting pricey, plus I would wake up around 2am with the munchies.  So, now that I've had a few months off, it should be back down to the 5mg.  I do have a vape with Indica strain (that is the one that will make you super relaxed and sleepy), and it does seem to help out with sleep, but it's not as effective as the combination gummies.
  • @VarunaTT awesome for no sleep apnea.

@banana468 I take melatonin gummies and they do seem to help me fall asleep, but not necessarily stay asleep.

We have a fun weekend planned! We're going to see Rage tonight and I'm so freaking excited. Saturday will be a chill day - I've got a ton of errands to run though. And Sunday is my cousin's twins' christening at a supah fancy venue.
  • @VarunaTT, I also hope things get easier for you, now that at least somethings are settled.  And you're able to get better sleep with some of the things you're doing.  Hopefully they can find the right medical solution also.

More "going out to eat" this weekend for restaurant month.  Fridays are my half-day and I'm debating if I just want to go home or go out for lunch.  FWIW, the lunches are the best value, but some of the restaurant month deals are only good on the weekdays.

Not much for other plans.  We needed a little bit of grocery shopping, but I got that done last night at Costco.

    -----------------------------------------

Speaking of Costco, triumph!  I was actually listened to...for once, lol.

There is this guy at Costco who has been pissing me off.  He's not a "Costco employee", but he is with a vendor that is allowed to have a booth in the Costco.  Specifically, AT&T home internet and tv services.

But instead of staying at his booth, he harasses people almost as soon as they walk through the front door.  Here have been my interactions with him:

Thursday a couple weeks ago.  I walk into the store, but have some texting to do.  I step unobtrusively to the side and next to a tv display, so I'm not in anyone's way.  I am looking at my phone, in the midst of texting...when someone who I thought was a Costco employee...approaches me.  He asks if he can help me find anything.  Kind of annoyed that a Costco employee is bugging me when I'm obviously on my phone, but they are pretty customer-service friendly like that.  I tell him, "No thanks.  I'm fine."  And then he launches into his AT&T spiel.  I politely tell him I have no interest in AT&T.  Okay, whatever.  I let it go.

On my next Costco trip, he approaches me again as I'm walking through the door.  But at least this time, I'm not obviously busy and on my phone, so I'm not mad about the interaction and we have almost same conversation, verbatim.

Last Friday, I walk into the store and...again...have some texting to do.  It's been a super stressful day.  I'm putting out fires.  And this rude AH bugs me AGAIN, WHILE I AM ON THE PHONE.  Unfortunately, it took me an extra second to realize who he was, or I would have included in my first sentence, "No thanks, I'm fine, and I don't want AT&T."  But instead, I'd just left it at the "No thanks, I'm fine."  So he goes into his AT&T spiel.  Without even looking at him, and I never stopped texting or took my gaze away from my phone, I held my hand up and said, "NO! I'm not interested!"  To which he sarcastically said, "Have a nice day."  I didn't say a word back.  Really, dude?  You can seriously just f**k right off.  You're the one bothering me when I am obviously busy, just to try and sell me something.

When I left Costco later that day, I went to speak to a manager.  I explained how it's disconcerting when he approaches customers at the entrance, because he's not near his booth, so they don't necessarily know he is a vendor.  I also explained I was upset that he approached me...TWICE...when I was obviously busy on my phone.  I concluded with that, while I didn't necessarily want to get him in trouble...though his behavior was rude...but I would appreciate it if they would talk to him about staying near his booth and not approaching customers at the entrance.  They said they would, but I wasn't expecting much.

I will now happily eat my words!  Last night was the first time I've been back to this store since I had that conversation.  He was there.  But wasn't at the entrance at all.  He stayed around his booth.

  • It is gorgeous here today. I worked out this morning and might just read on the porch this afternoon.

I can't remember if I told y'all, we are getting a puppy! I put a deposit down in January. The litter was born 2 weeks ago this Monday. There were originally 4 in the litter but one of the girls didn't make it. We are getting one of the boys (there are 2). He will be ready to come home at the end of September - after our trip to the beach and my girls' trip to Vancouver. I'm so excited. We have been dogless for a year and I'm ready to have another dog in the house. H has said we will only have 1 this time. We have had at least 2 dogs for 38 years but 1 is better than none!
I'm excited to hear about your all's puppy!

I remember how awful that timing was when you all had to put down both of your dogs, in the same week.

I'm glad you all feel ready for another dog.  I know how it was when my H and I lost our cat, Nip.  We missed not just her, but also the presence of a cat.  But, at the same time, also needed some time to grieve before we could get another cat.

  • BK slept over at my mum's last night. I had intended on doing stuff - like cleaning or something - but all I did was grab BK's thrifted fall stuff, and put in a basket for washing and then do a mask and shower.

I feel like fall is just going to sneak up on us and I want to make sure we're prepared.

We've decided to hold off a bit on painting BK's room because we're going to get her bed first. M said he may move her monitor when the bed is in, because where the monitor is right now is the wall we're painting. We're just doing 1 wall because it'll be an accent wall.

Reworking budgets so I can try and pay off my loan faster.
In October I have an appt with gyno and I'm going to ask about a tubal litigation, so I wanna have my loan paid off before I get that done so I'm not worrying about extra payments if I don't have to while on surgery leave.

I'm solo in the office so I've been watching The O.C while I work.

That’s my problem too! Going to sleep is easy.  But I’m usually up at 1 or 2.  I used to use melatonin but that stopped working.  Ambein works wonders but I’m wondering how long my doctor will fill that for me, and it’s cheap! I think like $5/month with my insurance. Aren’t CBD gummies a lot? At least it’s not sleep apnea @VarunaTT! Yay for that!
@MyNameIsNot - leggings.  Leggings get my vote.  I hate shopping for jeans.  Lane bryant has this new style that seems body/booty hugging and it’s on sale - but even the booty hugging ones will eventually sag in the bum on me! GL with the grass cutting.
@ILoveBeachMusic awwww we’ll need pictures of course

Remember our iced coffee talk? I found something I LOVE
    https://try.javycoffee.com
two things - says milk/almond milk/water - but I ran out of almond milk today and it definitely needs that. Don’t use water!
and it says 30 servings.  No way on earth.  Then I’m using 4 servings per cup! So I bought another coffee concentrate on amazon for $5.50/bottle if I’m going through that much.
The fam asked if I was heading south this weekend.  Technically I can.  But it’s a LOT of driving and a lot of family drama for one weekend. Part of me wants to stay home and do nothing and the other part does what to spend as much time with SIL and family before things change so drastically.

  • @CharmedPam re: CBD gummies depends on where you get and dosage. I do the balanced 1:1 thc/cbd or a higher cbd because it helps me better.
  • Good morning.  I'm leaving in about 10 min to get lunch and head to a nail appt.  It's my first afternoon off since taking my new role.  I need it, LOL.  The last month+ has been intense.

We're thinking about going boating tomorrow.  Sunday should just be relaxation and maybe a little shopping.  Have a good one, y'all.
  • This is at one week 2 days. He's the one with the green ribbon being nuzzled by his sister.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic So adorable!

Question - anyone know of testimonials of CBD being good for depression?

  • They’re so adorable @ILoveBeachMusic!!

I've heard a few things - I personally don't take my meds if I do cbd {one night won't hurt} and I think it depends on your personal choices and talking to a dr is good idea.
  • Working a few more hours then off to vacation! We’re leaving early in the hopes baby M stays/ falls back asleep for a bit. We’ll drive as far as we can get, hopefully all the way there or at least past DC.

Any very long car trip tips for a 2 year old??

Hope they nap!  Both of mine were actually OK for the long car trips from a temperment standpoint.

Fill a small trash can with lots of plastic bags.  Chiquita had a few instances where she got car sick on long car trips and those bags and the can were a major saver for...saving the car.

If you do think he's likely to get stir crazy a hanging carrier for a tablet would be good.

Yeah, it's one of those things - right now I see research that it helps alleviate a bunch of stuff, but the studies all mention not using human trials.  Using it for sleep got me thinking about that.  I've heard people say it is used for anxiety as well.

  • Sucky week. I got laid off today.

I have a part-time contract job that pays a little bit and an independent combo health/dental/vision insurance policy. So now I need to find a job to make up the income and ship back the computer station and company materials (the company says it will reimburse me).

Also sucky because I am caught in the middle between two friends who acted like jerks to each other and refuse to maturely settle their first-world problem (sports rivalry).

    And I miss my mom.

@VarunaTT I am glad you don't have sleep apnea.

@ILoveBeachMusic congrats on your adorable puppy!!!!

    Have fun this weekend everyone.

  • Geez, @Jen4948, you have really had a tough go at it. I'm so sorry about the job. I know you miss your mom - it will get better but never go away. Almost 20 years later, I still miss being able to call mine. Good luck with the job search.
  • Ugh! That’s just terrible @Jen4948.  I’m so sorry!

  • @Jen4948, I'm sorry to hear about the layoff, especially on top of your grief.  I hope you find an even better job soon.

It definitely depends because also some people you have to find a way to see what dosage amount works.
If I get too high THC, or something - it can trigger my anxiety.
    {that being said, I don't smoke. I do edibles or drinks}

If you get too high from THC, CBD will bring you down.  I have a vape I use, with both Sativa and Indica strains.  I have my edibles that are the melatonin and THC combo.  I get a Keef root beer for fun every now and then, but that is an all day I'm not doing anything b/c it's 25mg of THC and I'm more of a 5-10mg level.  I take at least 4-6 hours to drink the whole thing.  It's made to be resealable so that it stays carbonated.

The Indica and the edibles definitely help me sleep and I seem to get better sleep with no hangover or weirdness like sleep walking/eating.  the only issue I have is that sometimes I wake up at 2am with the munchies, so I go pretty light on what I use.  The Sativa I have is what I imagine Adderall must feel like to some people.  I can get a very healthy hyperfocus and use it when I need to clean my house or work on my papersculptures or other things that require a solid focus without being out of control/anxious about it.  I totally wish I could use it for work, but it does make me high, so that's a big no.

IDK if I feel like it helps with depression.  I think it can help with some of the symptoms depression forces on you, and that feels like help (like the sleeping, focus, and helping alleviate some anxiety), but the root of why you're depressed (whether it's situational or your general emotional health) is still there and needs to be addressed.  I'm pretty honest with my doctor about my THC use, b/c I want it to be normalized (people drink alcohol all the damn time and it's poisonous and no one gets judged for that) and so she tells me when I need to worry about interactions.  She said my Levapro and THC was fine and my other meds/supplements as well.  The only thing I can recall right now was when i was sick with Covid and she had to give me the codeine cough syrup, that was a very big NO from her.

ETA:  If you have questions, finding a good dispensary is magical.  I recommend finding ones that are specializing in treating cancer patients, b/c the "bud tenders" will be very knowledgeable about their products and can make good recommendations.  I'm always honest with them about what I'm trying to achieve and they have recommendations.  I have a CBD ointment for my cramps that is magical....THC doesn't help with cramps at all for me.  I just don't care that I hurt.
  • Thanks @VarunaTT - that was really really helpful information!

    Bolded. Yes!

I've told my dr I don't really drink much - one drink occasionally - but I'm more apt to use CBD/THC
She even said that if it wasn't already legalized, she would work on getting me medical card for it.

    Our dr is really good
