Internet dress purchase/ alterations and steaming

I am trying to determine how I should buy my dress.  I heard that Pearl's Place offers good discounts and I got a quote for the dress that I am likely going to get.  It was about 25% less than at the store in town where I tried it on (about $200).

1 - I heard good comments on Pearl's Place from a friend, but was wondering if anyone else bought from them (without going there and just ordering on the phone).  If so, what was your experience.

2 - Does anyone know how much it costs to have a dress steamed?  Is it always included in alterations?  Also, is it difficult to find a good place to do alterations and steaming if you do not buy a dress from a salon in the area?  (p.s. If anyone lives in NW Indiana and knows of anyone good, please share!)

Re: Internet dress purchase/ alterations and steaming

  • I've heard a lot of good things on TK about Pearls Place but I purchased through Jay's Bridal.  I found a local seamstress (from recs on my local board) and she steamed it.  I had to ship it to my location so it needed to be steamed again.  I don't know how much that cost because me MIL had it done for me before I arrived.

  • No experience with PP, but a lot of brides here love them.

Steaming is sometimes included in alterations costs, but that varies--mine did not steam my dress. I would suggest checking your local board for recommendations on alterations in your area. If your seamstress does not steam, you can always get this done by a dry cleaner or purchase a handheld steamer (~$20 at Walmart) and DIY.
