What other purpose would a qtip serve?  I don't think I've ever used one for anything other than cleaning ears...
ETA: Oh, and to clean out people's belly buttons at work, but I don't like to think about that...

  • I got to second 11 and I had to stop it. HAD TO.

Kidding. I watched a BIT more of it, but as soon as she said cotton balls in the mouth, I had to shut it off. That I just can't handle. EWEWEWEWEWEWEWEW.

You're supposed to use them to clean the crevies of your ear, but not stick it into your ear; otherwise you run the risk of hitting your eardrum and damaging it, as well as just packing in wax deeper.

  • I'll risk damaging my eardrum for how good it feels to clean my ears after a shower.  I freakin' love qtips.

  • The only things I ever use them for is to adjust my eyemakeup after I put it on and to clean behind the faucet on the bathroom sink.

    And to jam my earwax.

  • A college classmate taught me how to put a burning cottonball in my mouth as a party trick. Pretty nifty.

  • Ear candling.

Which I have never tried and will likely never try.

  • Ear candling sounds like a scary thing.  I prefer open flame to be as far away from my head as possible.

  • There all of a sudden is a lot of mention of fire and putting things in holes in this thread. WTF.

  • I had to get my ears irrigated a couple of times when I was younger... NOT cool. And I was told it was because I used Qtips. Don't use them any more. Haven't had to do it since.
  • OMG I love ear candles!  I found them years ago at some holistic store when on vacation and became obsessed with them.  Now I don't know where to find them.  When we were moving I found 4 in my room so H and I used them on eachother.  It feels really cool and I love cutting them open after.  Its gross though too.

Ear candling is also dangerous. You can get OTC stuff from Murine that dissolves the wax and it drains out, and it's totally nasty.

  • I've done ear candles a couple of times. It's kinda cool. It's not on fire, it just smokes. Definitely gross to see what ends up inside the cone once it's done.

I don't know how safe it is, but I've put peroxide in my ears every once in a while since I was a kid. If you can't handle the loud bubbling sound, definitely don't try it.

  • I've actually always wanted to try ear candling because I think it would feel really awesome when you were done.

  • I don't G4 on DirecTv anymore, either.  I miss it.  I also don't get Jersey Shore, FB games, Glee, The Office, or Two and a Half Men.

My boss said he likes "Outsourced" - I REALLY don't get that.  And, no, I'm not worried about my job being outsourced.

    WTF is ear candling?

I don't get why my neighbor sets his car alarm off a couple times a week EVERY week. We've lived her 3 1/2 years and it's been like that the whole freaking time.

Poke a candle in your ear and light it.  Supposedly, this creates a vacuum and draws toxins and earwax out of your ear.

Science does not support it, and the nasty looking residue it produces has been shown to be soot and melted wax (from the candle, not from your ear).

  • Ew. That sounds disgusting.

  • I am not against organic/holistic approaches to things, just that one. Heh. I think I need to try a neti pot because my allergies are so bad and the meds only help so much.
